Ok I'm Done With This Internet

I'm done with Time Warner and I'm so far past the point of enraged.
Well, I've had Time Warner Cable (Road Runner) in 3 different locations. Let me start off by saying this is the Time Warner Midwest Ohio area (Dayton). I live in the city of Urbana though.
Once in Fort Hood, Texas
Once in North Lewisburg, Ohio
and now here in Urbana, Ohio.
The first two was decent since cable wasn't really popular and it was kind of new. Time Warner offered amazing support and instantly loading web pages and song downloads were just the highlight of my year once it was installed. (Anyone who's ever had to use Dial up before will understand why). Well, let's fast forward to the year 2006 when I installed Time Warner at this location (Urbana, Ohio). It has been nothing but a nightmare to say the least about this company.
It started out small like every week there would be a couple disconnects or speeds would randomly slow down.. but w/e only a couple of times a week.. no big deal, but we still called out the customer service reps and oh boy aren't they a treat. Not only do they have no idea what they're doing, in the past 3 years the only thing they have done is replaced the modem and router, over and over and over again.
Well, in the past few months it's been hell. ALL DAY the internet just slows down to a halt and won't load web pages or any kind of activity what so ever for about 30 seconds then it resumes to normal. We get at least 2 disconnects a day and MAYBE it kicks back on that day/night. Some times (we have several computers hooked up through a router) it will just randomly pick a computer and won't let it connect. There are no firewalls blocking and connections on any computer, it's just completely random.
I'm so far past angry and I'm done calling out customer service reps who have absolutely no idea what they're talking about or doing. The last time they came here, they just opened up speedtest and ran that a few times and said they couldn't find any problems. Then they logged into some Modem interface and they couldn't read any of the terms on the page so they had to call their supervisor.. it's just.. good god.. The support for this company in this area is beyond wretched and a horrible abomination.
I've heard nothing but amazing things about Verizon Fios Internet.
Not to mention all of the equipment they have given us is from the year 1999-2000. Yes.. every single router/modem/piece of hardware they've given us has the sticker on it still and it's usually labeled from the year 2000. Thank god, they're staying on top of new hardware in this area.
Not to mention the upload speed is GOD AWFUL... I'm talking around .20kb/s Sharing any kind of files what so ever is a complete nightmare and takes up all the latency just even running file sharing programs and makes the service horrendously slow to the point you can't even browse the web.
Is Fios worth it? I have 4 computers in this house (my desktop, my roomies desktop and laptop and my landlord's desktop) We'd be all connected through wired (a hub) so I'd like to ask you all if Fios is worth it. I've heard tons of people praising Verizon and loving the service so I figured I would come here and ask the community to see what they think.
Sorry for my rant.. I feel better now.

That's the message I'm getting when I check for availablity for Fios Internet. I live on that street but that's not my address.
Also to one of the replies: If that's true and Fios isn't in Ohio.. I'll just cry. That means i'm stuck with Time Warner.

  • Why can't we just have separate log ins and be done with this nonsense?

    As the topic says...
This common login is supposed to be one reason why Adobe can't implement NNTP. But what function does it serve? I've commented in another thread, and below is more or less, what i said there...
That, i think, was the most assinine idea anyone ever came up with. I see no reason for not having separate log ins for store and forums / downloads. In fact, i can't think of one good reason to combine the two.
If i were a user of the Adobe store, i would definitely prefer to have a separate login and password for that area. I think most people would. I see a lot of aliases in the forums. In the store, you'd want to use your real name for tax and audit purposes. Moreover, what's to stop people creating two identities anyway? So, the whole purpose of a common id is meaningless.
Am sure, that even at this stage, it wouldn't be too difficult to separate the two. For instance, whenever i open the forums i see a welcome at the top of the screen. Right above 'Home'. Yet, i still have to login to the forums... what give? Idiotic.
Adding to the above, doing away with this single log in would also mean an end to this frustration of suddenly getting logged off, randomly staying logged in, etc., etc.

It reduces the number of accounts people have to remember. I am very
glad I do not have to have separate accounts for the Adobe site, the
WebX forums, the Fusetalk forums, the Acrobat.com site, the
Photoshop.com site, the trainers portal, the Community portal, the
    Partner portal etc.
I remember the days those were all different accounts and I am glad they
are gone. I can't wait until the prerelease site and the EDS site are
fixed to work with the Adobe ID as well.
In my reply to Kaguyen, I wrote:
I agree that having a single loging procedure for all the forums was logic and necessary. However, I still completely fail to understand the logic behind tying the Adobe Store and the Forums login procedures. By its very nature, the former needs strong security measures that are not only unnecessary, but also completely absurd in a public forum. I gladly accept being logged out of my bank account and of the  Adobe Store after a fixed period of inactivity. However, I see no reason for, and strongly object to, being logged out of any public forum after any period of time.
I would very much prefer remembering separate login data for each than been constantly logged out of the forums. Even more so as the login procedures currently in use were not tested properly before being implemented, and logouts occur unpredictably, including many cases where the user is active. Following your logic, why not have just one username and password for everything, including bank accounts, large stores such as Amazon, taxing purposes, etc?
But separating them just isn't going to happen. And you know it isn't,
because it isn't a technical decision but a policy choice. So I would
very much appreciate if you stopped whining and detracting attention
from issues that do stand a chance of changing.
    Jochem
Now this is really a gem. I do hope you are not a member of the Adobe higher quarters, and that you are not officially speaking for Adobe, because a company that isn't able to recognize and correct a bad policy decision is doomed. Also, I hope you are willing to explain to us mere mortals which of the very many issues people are (in your words) whining about do stand a chance, however slight, of changing.

  • Firefox keeps downloading dlg.zip on occaision at startup, what is supposed to be done with this file ?

Every few days Firefox keeps downloading dlg.zip at startup meaning that my download manager catches this zip file at startup, I use IDM but the issue appears to be Firefox as there is a dlg folder in Firefox installation folder. What am I supposed to do with this zip file as it appears to contain exactly what is already in the installation folder.

Those folders seem to be related to a Conduit "community toolbar" add-on. If you check your add-ons list, do you have such an extension?
orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Add-ons > Extensions category
The list is alphabetical within two different groups: enabled and disabled (grayed out).

  • I'm so done with this

I'm so ready to throw this junk playstation 3 out the window. For months I've been having the issue of not being able to connect to PSN easily. It used to not be too inconvenient, and I'd just restart my playstation once and then I'd be able to sign in.Now, however, I have to restart my internet three or four times, and my vPS3 numerously.Currently, I'm trying to get it to work, and I've restarted my internet twice, and my playstation 6 times. There's no message or anything that comes up on my screen, it literally just signs in and never stops.I have done many things in an attempt to diagnose and resolve this inconvenience, however nothing has worked. It could, however be my NETGEAR router, which is several years old now, and could be conflicting IP's, though I've tested it out in a couple ways and I have no evidence to yet support that idea.If anyone has had this issue and knows how to fix it, or if you have any ideas, please be welcomed to share...Thanks.

Update your router software.  Just connect with IP: 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1User name: AdminPassword: password update firmware If you still seem to have trouble logging in move the PlayStation 3 closer to the router and try there. Sometimes walls etc interfere with wifi. Don't get me wrong, PSN is crap and you should buy an Xbox for sure, but you shouldn't be having such issues as you described.

  • What is up with this internet speed spike?

Lately my internet speed has been all over the place, I  have done the online support and it didnt help. It worked fine when they "tested" it aka made me restart my modem.
and moments later at another nearby server.
I only have the one computer on and I am paying for 75Mb/s ( megabits). Then it spikes back to my normal speed.
During the time of the speed test, I was the only one online, the only other verizon service that was running was our TV.
    Questions:
-What can I make verizon do to solve this issue?
Edit: these tests are on a wired connection.
And now its back to normal:
my biggest issue is it basically kicks me out of some games due to the spike.

It could have nothing to do with your connection.  I've seen the same thing a few times.  But when I picked a differnet speed test server the results were what I expect.  The last time, with a server in my own state, I was getting results between 2Mbps and 20Mbps.  With a server over a 1000 miles away, I consistently got 80+Mbps.   That lasted for over 2 days before my defaut server returned to normal.
During that same period, the default server on the Verizon speed test timed out.  But results were good when I picked a different server.
Presumably, this type of results is area dependent and will effect performance on some sites but not others.

  • I'm so done with this phone.

Ok so my husband and I both got the htc droid in february of this year and have had numerous problems.  We had read some of the reviews before deciding to get the phone and decided it would be a good one to get.  Apparently the reviews were written sometime in the first month of having the phone.
    While the idea is great this phone is truly the first one I have ever yelled at in the middle of a store or honestly felt like throwing against a wall.  Great way to wean yourself off using the phone too much? Just upgrade to the htc droid!  I hate making phone calls because it takes 5-10 secs to load my call history, then I push the send button and what do you know I called the wrong person.  Try using my favorites list, hmm well if I wanted to call the person two people above their pic then thats who I would have pushed.  Tried sending pics to my email it took 5 attempts and 24 hours for me to get them.  I get force closed all the time, then it doesn't close anything,{word filter avoidance}
?  I hate text messaging, i type fast and never had a problem with my LG Dare ( the last phone I had) but the droid seems to have a brain fart everytime I write a text message.
Forget the market, are you kidding me? What a disaster, I don't have two hours to spend on the phone to look for an app that won't affect the already crappy apps I already have on my phone.  My husband gave up sending pic messages, not too mention that everything scrolls the the left and then won't scroll back.  Every time our phones are plugged in to charge they freak, literally!  They jump from app to app, things get highlighted green and scrolls up and down all the time.  Set it on the table and walk slowly away! The phone gets hot, the battery runs out, and because we have to charge it so often the car charger is fried!  I am constantly in a fight with my phone to get my home screen to come up, the update may have fixed some of the other issues but it also added so many more.
I have waited and waited, to avoid the scene I now know is going to come up, to go into Verizon to complain and see what they can do. We went in once because of the issues we were having, their solution add Advance Task Killer, super!  That got old really fast, I shouldn't have to babysit my phone and make sure everything is turned off when I'm done, hello isn't this a smart phone?   Then my attempt at tech support, his solution -remove some of the apps since they may be affecting the other ones, oh yeah and by the way, you should pull the battery out at least once a day to reboot the phone!   What?!  You have got to be kidding me!
I am not a tech savvy person, I know my way around most phones and get along just fine with most things, but I can't tell you what version of some unknown upgrade could possibly be on my phone or what has caused what.  I don't want to have constantly be downloading something to fix an issue that shouldn't be an issue.  Isn't that why companies have beta testers? To test their products before they are released to make sure that there are as few issues as possible?  The race to have the best, smartest, coolest phone on the market, even when two days later it will be outdated, shouldn't be affecting the products that we pay good money for!
There are other issues, but I can be done for now.

Good luck! A refurb will probably fix most of those problems...unless that one suffers from it too. Some users are reporting being on their 3rd+ Eris. I'm "only" on my 2nd.
Two problems in your list won't be helped by a new Eris. You mentioned trouble with picture messages. One problem that the maintenance update in July (called MR4) introduced is that picture messages are now being interpreted as 5-second slideshows. You will not be able to get rid of that problem with a refurb, as the update (which Verizon has made mandatory) causes it. This issue will also affect who can receive pictures from you: I have a friend with an LG EnV2 who is unable to receive pictures from me after the update, though others still receive them fine--HTC says that only those phones which are, "too old" (yes, their words) will not be able to get pictures from the Eris.
Unfortunately, HTC refuses to support this problem, and one representative, Danty, confirmed that they have absolutely no intention of releasing any new updates to fix it. Verizon says they can't do anything if HTC says there's nothing to be done, so I'm not sure if we'll ever see this one fixed. ):
Second, the "brain fart" while texting will be present in any replacement you get as well. The Eris' touch keyboard is VERY slow; it just can't keep up. I'd guess it's a hardware problem, or the way the software interacts with the hardware: when I had to have mine replaced, it was because the vibrate mechanism died. That was annoying, but it did have a positive consequence: the phone suddenly became very fast; typing could keep up with me, switching to landscape view was snappy, and apps opened faster as well. There are no officially-sanctioned methods of fixing this. (The only method other users are reporting success with voids your warranty and requires being very tech savvy--personally, I haven't been willing to go that route, but others swear by it.)
Overall, it's a shoddy product, and HTC refuses to honor their obligation to support it. Personally, I'll never buy another HTC phone again, and I tell others to avoid HTC as well. Unfortunately, it sounds like you also learned this lesson the hard way. ):

    Hi ebombardi,
Have you looked at our [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-crashes-or-flash-plugin-crashes Flash plugin troubleshooting section]? There is a lot of useful information in there that should help you get to the bottom of your issue.

  • DEAR ORACLE: what have you done with webdb?

    dear oracle,
i was using webdb since rel 2.0.* and i think, it was a great idea! we could visualize data
and give the users the chance to access the data in a very simple way - without programming
in java, c++ or anything else ( ok, pl/sql is needed sometimes. but as long as we are using
oracle databases, we will find someone with pl/sql-knowledge :-), so this is not an
    additional requirement).
but what have you done with this wonderful idea?
you have moved webdb to an enterprise-portal, with great functionality and a huge requirement
of resources. no doubt, it is a powerful product, where you can build wonderfull sites
full of surprising elements, every second character bold and blinking . . .
but you forgot the customers, who only need a simple way, to create forms and reports.
by moving portal to such a level, as you have done, you left a gap below this.
please tell me, why should i install and use such a 'mighty' product as 9iAS, when i only
need the functionality, that came with webdb??
    some impressions:
    - starting with the installation ( download 2 GB! a just released product and i have to download
additional 274 MB of patches, wasting more time with the patch-installation than the rest).
    - space-requirements of nearly 5 GB (approx. 12 times as much as webdb 2.2)
    - i have to use internet directory, management server, enterprise manager - all products,
that i don't need for the rest of my daily business and that i'm not familiar with
(until now) -> requiring additional time to become familiar with. do you realy think, that the use of all
products in your portfolio makes it easier to handle (as stated in one of the white papers?)?
It seems, that you have lost the ground!
    - saving my investments by a migration path? i can forget this - oracle support surrendered and tells
me, that there is something in the installation that prevents me from upgrading.
    - the product portal seems to be very 'dynamic': if i don't want to lose support, i have to upgrade
to the next release nearly every three months (one of the most important phrases, heard by support-stuff:
"you have any problem? you should upgrade to the latest release first!")
    so, dear oracle,
i hope, you remember those customers, who don't want an overkill. please, fill up the
gap with an applicationserver-light/portal-light and don't forget, that the main scope of your
customers is to fulfil their own customers needs and not to administer oracle-products.
    regards
    rainer

I have tried to open several large PDF docs with Reader DC (although on Windows 7), and they all open instantly.
Two possibilities I can think of:
Are you inside a corporate firewall?  If so, make sure that you have access to cloud.acrobat.com
If the above is not the problem, can you try to disable Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].

  • Allow loaded swf's communication with the internet

    Hi,
I have an air application that is loading in swfs, the swfs then intern request data from internet.
For example I have one swf thats loaded into the air application that requests data from the flickr api.
But I keep getting adobe air security pop ups. "adobe air has stopped a potentially unsafe operation tring to comunicate with this internet-enabled location:
This application is going on a kiosk of types. Is it possible to add some sort of text file to the machines that has predetermined list of allowed internet-enabled locations so that this pop up doesnt keep appear and the application works with out us having to manually set each kiosk to allow a location?
    Thanks
    Aidan

Have you found an answer for this. I am running into the same
    problem.

  • "Letting Adobe Flash communicate with the internet"

Ok, Here is the deal. I have some .flv video files hosted on my domain with a fantastic looking flash player. It all works great. Except that every time that I change any of the code in the html snippet, or load the page with said snippet on it in iweb, i get this message:
"Adobe Flash Player has stopped a potentially unsafe operation.
The following local application on your computer or network:
    iweb-widget:58/$x-html-markup
is trying to communicate with this Internet-enabled location:
    my.domain
To let this application communicate with the internet, click settings.
You must restart this application after changing your settings
    {OK} {Settings...}"
and here's where my problem comes in. I can click ok, and it apparently just ignores the "security" risk and lets it go through that one time, but the next time I load up the page, I have to do it all over again.
Alternatively, I can click settings, and exactly the same thing happens as when I click ok.
Any idea how to get this message to go away. I understand what the "security" risk is, but I also know exactly what it is that I am hosting and I want to allow it to communicate with my webserver.
For reference, here is the code in my html snippet
    "<embed
    src="http://my.domain/mediaplayer/player.swf"
    width="640"
    height="352"
    bgcolor="000000"
    allowscriptaccess="always"
    allowfullscreen="true"
    flashvars="file=http://my.domain/movies/shortclip.flv&backcolor=000000&frontcolo r=EEEEEE&lightcolor=000000&screencolor=000000"
    />"
For clarification, when published and uploaded, every thing looks great and runs as it should, but I really hate this amazingly annoying nag message.

I am already using the JW Flash player.
    http://www.jeroenwijering.com/?item=JWFLVPlayer
    same thing as the link.
That part is working fine. I just need to know how to change the settings so flash player doesn't get angry about it contacting an external site.
Just kind of annoying that every time that I even load up the page to view it in iweb, I have to click to let it contact the external page, for every video on the **** page.

  • What's my problem with this G5? Help needed.

I have an iMac G5- early 2005- running Tiger.
During boot up there can be a black screen and that's all, no furter, thus I must do a reboot.
    No booting into OS.
If the system does boot-up it might take anywhere between 3-10 minutes to do so.
Other than that most of the operating of the machine is fairly ok. Sometimes there can be a serious delay for windows to open or changes to ocurr but that's not usually the csae.
I used the Disk Utility -at boot- based on someone's recommendation but the disk had no errors, seemingly.
The disk is partitioned into 2 disks. The second partition is called 'Storage'. It is not available or present[doesn't appear on the desktop] during use of the OS.
In D.U. it appears as a greyed out word...but I can run first aid and it proves to have no errors and the disk can and is verified, however it is not accessible.
It was sent off to be repaired, but the result is inconclusive.
There have been no changes at all, to either hardware or software.
    Any thoughts or ideas?
    Thanks.

I rang apple care and after much time of listening to some fairly nice selections of music, I was informed that there was nothing that could be done with this machine as far as apple were concerned, so.
I asked techy whether I should get a new hdd. His reply was, use a second hand one, don't waste your money on a new one, so.
Took off back cover - 3 nuts on base of screen. Undid the 'grey plate' that sits on top of the access point to the hard drive. Undid 3 securing screws, undid cables - be careful to note the orientations of each of these - released the 2 hdd cables - one is for data transfer, the other is the power cable - then 4 screws holding the hdd in its housing. that was it...just reversed everything to replace.
Then did a re-install of OSX Tiger. All's well. The system is very quick compared to its previous state and no problems so far.
I did replace the hdd that was in this machine with a better model - Seagate - and a bigger size.
    will keep you posted.
Just for those who may find their machine out of warranty and they might feel like having a go at this procedure - if the situations are similar - it's worth it and in a sense, you might have nothing to lose.
Be careful !, take your time !...and keep in mind each and every action you take, so you have a memory or a map of the things that you do/did.
    good luck to you.

  • How to tell iPhone/iTunes I'm done with a podcast

Is there a way to mark a podcast as done on my iPhone or iPod only part way through? I'm using the latest version of iTunes and an iPhone, and I have them set to sync only unplayed episodes. It's great that (for a while) now if I'm part way through a podcast when I sync it stays on my iPhone, but what about when I don't want it to anymore? I decide that episode is boring, I accidentally restarted one I had listened to, or I don't want to listen to the ad at the end. At the moment, I have to try and fast forward until there are just a few seconds left and let those play out. If I scroll too far and it goes all the way to the end it remembers where I was when I started fast forwarding when I sync, but if I go immediately back to the episode and try again it is at the beginning. If I hit the skip button, same thing. I need a "I'm done with this podcast now" button on the mobile device. I don't want to mess with it later when I sync, I want to plug it in and go to bed then and have it be ready for me in the morning. Is there a way?
    Thanks.

Thanks for your suggestion, but as I said above I am looking for something I can do from the mobile device. For example, if I forget whether I was half way through the last unmarked episode and begin it playing and it had been complete, it is suddenly remembering my place again. If I sync, it stays on the player. I want to be able to do something right when this happens so I don't need to screw around on the computer when I sync.

  • A problem with this webpage caused Internet Explorer (IE9) to close and reopen the tab

I have IE9 (using 32-bit version) installed on a relatively new laptop with Windows 7 64-bit. Up until last weekend IE9 worked fine and Flash Player worked fine too.
At the weekend a webpage asked for Flash Player to be updated - which I did. Ever since then whenever I go to a webpage needing Flash Player I get the message "A problem with this webpage caused Internet Explorer to close and reopen the tab". This happens twice and then an IE9 error page.
I have read the discussions in here about the problems with Flash Player 10.3 and have tried the various solutions. I have updated to 10.3.181.16 having tried 15 and 14 previously. Same problem.
I have reset IE9. Same problem.
I have disabled all add-ons which stops the problem. If I enable just the Flash Player add-on then the problem recurs. Since there are so many webpages that use Flash I do not want to run my browser without this add-on running.
If I enable the add-on and run IE9 using software rendering instead of GPU rendering then I don't get the problem. However, this isn't exactly making the best use of the resources on my laptop.
This may well all be related to the 10.3 problems but no one seems to have mentioned having a problem with tabs closing and reopening so I thought I would post on here to check.
Any suggestions for how to solve this (other than using software rendering)?

Thanks again for your reply. I appreciate the time you have taken to respond.
I think, however, you misunderstand the problem. IE9 does not reopen the tabs on just one website - it is doing this on every website that needs Flash Player. Therefore, running in Compatibility mode is not an option. In fact, because IE9 reopens the tabs so quickly and then ends up with an error page, I cannot even click the Compatibility button anyway.
I could use ActiveX filtering - true. All that this means is that Flash does not play on any of the websites. When I want to re-enable ActiveX for a particular website where I need to see the Flash Player item, this just triggers the error.
This problem also happened on .14, .15 and well as the current .16 version. It did not happen with the previous version of Flash Player that I had on the system (version 10.2 I think).
The fact is that either Flash Player or IE9 or both is/are broken. The two choices I am still left with are:
    1. Use software rendering (which contradicts the latest advertisements for IE9 about unleashing the power of IE)
    2. Use another browser - I have no problems with either Firefox or Chrome

Don't download MacKeeper. Users complain about this app and it damages OS X. Also, Mac OS X knows how to take care of itself, so you don't need any other cleaning application that may damage OS X. See > https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3691
