Olap roadmap

hi
in olap oracle 12C, I did not see any new features.
I wonder if Oracle continues to invest in oracle olap.
what is the future of oracle olap?
regards
jean marc

Hi Jean Marc,
Have you looked at the new SQL Developer 4.0 (latest is 4.0.2), and the OLAP Option integration with SQL Developer
for working with version 12c of the Oracle database? We are continuing to work on additional
features for SQL Developer 4.1 such as multi-language support, data security, and further enhancements
to specifying cube aggregation specifications, and dimension data validation among other new features for 4.1.
Here is the information from the OLAP Blog, Oracle OLAP
The OLAP Extension is now in SQL Developer 4.0.
See http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/sql-developer/downloads/sqldev-releasenotes-v4-1925251.html for the details.
The OLAP functionality is mentioned toward the bottom of the web page.
What is new or improved:
New Calculation Expression editor for calculated measures.  This allows the user to nest different types to calculated measures easily.  For instance a user can now create a Moving Total of a Prior Period as one calculated measure.  In AWM, it would have required a user to create a Prior Period first and then create a Moving Total calculated measure which referred to the Prior Period measure. Also the new Calculation Expression editor displays hypertext helper templates when the user selects the OLAP API syntax in the editor.
Support for OLAP DML command execution in the SQL Worksheet.  Simply prefix OLAP DML commands by a '~' and then select the execute button to execute them on the SQL Worksheet.  The output of the command will appear in the DBMS Output Window if it is opened, or the Script Output Window if the user has executed 'set serveroutput on' before executing the DML command.
Improved OLAP DML Program Editor integrated within the SQL Developer framework.
New diagnostic reports in the SQL Developer Report navigator.
Ability to create a fact view with a measure dimension (i.e. "pivot cube").  This functionality is accessible from the SQL Developer Tools-OLAP menu option.
Cube scripts have been renamed to Build Specifications and are now accessible within the Create/Edit Cube dialog.  The Build Specifications editor there, is similar to the calculation expression editor as far as functionality.
You will still need AWM 12.1.0.1.0 to
Manage and enable cube and dimension MV's.
Manage data security.
Create and edit nested measure folders (i.e. measure folders that are children of other measure folders)
Create and edit Maintenance Scripts
Manage multilingual support for OLAP Metadata objects
Use the OBIEE plugin or the Data Validation plugin
Thanks for your input. Look forward to hearing from you in the future.

  • OLAP universes and Crystal Reports

    Hi everybody,
as we know Crystal Reports can not use OLAP universes as data source. The details about that have been discussed several times in this forum, for example in the threads:
Logon failed with Universe data source
Logon failed when trying to connect to a SAP BW related universe
The possible data sources are perfectly explained in the Blog from Ingo Hilgefort.
    /people/ingo.hilgefort/blog
But... why these connection type is not possible???
From my point of view these missing functionality comes with a lot of drawbacks. The universe has a lot of advantages, and first of all it is isolating the business users form technical complexities. But if the business users can not access to the OLAP universe they have to face to technical complexities.
Another point: Consider a perfect integrated SAP BW environment with Business Objects Enterprise and Crystal and Xcelsius. The administrator can now define a perfect universe structure, tailored on the particular business needs of the end users. This universe structure can be used for Web Intelligence and Xcelsius (QaaWS). But for the Crystal Reports I have to define another interface to the BW data sources, which can not be done by the Administrator.
    So, some open questions:
    - Why is the connect to OLAP universes not possible - does that make sense?
    - Will the connectivity be available in future - is that part of the actual roadmap?
    - What is the recommanded approach for a business case as shown above, meaning how can I isolate my business users from technical complexities by using SAP BW as data source for Crystal Report.
Thank you for any comments and advises,
    Sebastian

    Hello to everybody.
When I was starting to work on the BO products I had exactly the same question.
Why were the OLAP Universes not supported in Crystal Reports?
Well, I have a few facts in my mind, I explained the decision of SAP in this case with for myself.
    1. Very simple and my first thought: monetary aspects. There excist the SAP Integration Kit. These drivers work pretty fine. So for what reason SAP should invest money in an other technique to access the SAP data?
    2. It excist a server solution for small and medium-sized companies named Crystal Reports Server. I'm not sure but I don't think this package contains the Universe Designer. If acces on SAP data over the OLAP Universes would be possible, the Crystal Reports Server customers should also get the Designer tool and the Translation tool, too. Less profit margin.
    3. Creating a Universe out of OLAP data destroys the moredimensionality. Universes are flat constructs. So maybe it makes no sense to use this meta layer.
    4. A typical Crystal Report user isn't someone who had no technical understanding. For me these users should know and understand the data source very well. So an Universe would limit there the possibilities for building a report.
    5. I think the SAP itself did not know where the journey should go with this toolset. A roudmap that changes severalt times in one year an many many rumours about these tools proof this.
So I think maybe we just have to wait a few months and the support for the OLAP Universes will come with a fix pack.   Who knows...
    Greetings,
    Sebastian

  • Creation of Universe based on Hana OLAP connection

I have to create a universe in IDT 4.1 sp2 based on SAP HANA OLAP
    connection ?
How can i access SAP HANA view which was created using OLAP connection in Business objects Explorer? It does not allow creating Universe on top of SAP HANA OLAP connection and gives an error
SAP Business Objects query and reporting applications can directly connect to OLAP SAP HANA connections. No universe is required, only a published OLAP SAP HANA connection.

  • Creation of a Multi-Year Product Roadmap in Project 2010

I am looking to see if I can efficiently create a product roadmap using Project 2010.  For a given business unit in our corporation I have product categories and under those categories I have products and/or projects I want to show on a timeline.  I
was able to brute force this into a timeline but I would think there is an easier way to do this.
For example, I would like to be able to put the description of the product/project inside the bar on the ghantt chart but I get an error when I try to do that.  I increased the bar height to allow for legible text but still no luck.
I want each entry for a given product category to automatically produce a bar of the right color with starting and ending symbols as needed based on the type of entry I add (product versus project).
Is there any way to add an outline to the bars of different colors to designate the difference between a sustaining, anticipated, active, and discontinued product or project?
Or would I be better served to go find an aftermarket piece of software that will do this type of work instead of trying to use MS Project for something it wasn't specifically designed?
    Thank you for any feedback.
    Andy

    Hi Andy,
    Here is a
tutorial that might help you coloring your bar style. This is based on the resource name but you could have a custom field with your product category which trigger a flag then the bar style will be formated
    based on the flag.
Then about the description in the bar, I'm afraid this is not intended for this purpose. What about the note fields?
    Hope this helps,

  • Refresh of Webi in BI Launch Pad : "Failed to connect to the olap source"

    Dear all,
I have a Web Intelligence document based on a BEx Query (BICS connectivity via an OLAP Connection configured with SSO)
    Behaviour :
in Web Intelligence Rich Client (2 tier and 3 tier) : refresh is OK
in BI Launch Pad : refresh is not OK :
What can be the reason ? In my opinion SSO to BW is working fine because :
refresh in Web Intelligence Rich Client is OK
refresh of an Analysis Application (Design Studio) based on the same OLAP connection is working fine in Design Studio and in BI Launch Pad

On which SPs/Patch level is your SAP BI BusObjects System as well as SAP BW running?

  • SSO to SAP works but no OLAP Connection per SSO Auth

    Hi experts,
we have setup an SSO for the Authentication of SAP BW and SAP BO and used the portal integration. We are using SAP BO 4.1 SP4 and SAP BW 7.4.
We use the Login via Netweaver Portal go then to the SAP BO where the reports are stored.
The SSO login works fine, but the OLAP connection to the SAP BW system does not fly. I have tried to create a connection via IDT. This works.
After that I created a WebI report in the Applet and chose BEx Connection and retreived the error:
    error.openSapBwBrowsingSessionFailed
Then i tried the WebI Rhich Client and recieved the message: Unknown Error in SL Service and Even do not recieve the list of possible Bex connections.
We are using SNC for the user authentication in SAP BW.
An now it is getting very unnormal:
When i go the IDT tool and create the connection again and republish this to the repository and try to connect again via WebI Applet, i do not get the error message again.
Can you please assist, as our Business user can not publish their OLAP connection.
    Regards,
    Markus

The new Business Objects version (BI 4.0) comes with a new authentication
technology to create a trust relationship between a non-SAP user and the SAP
data source. How to determine the correct method to be used?
When using legacy .unv universes (XI 3.1 technology) = SNC
When using .unx environments (BI 4.0 new semantic layer) = STS
when you try to connet BICS connection or IDT it is important to use the STS methodology.
check the below link to have configurations.
Follows a Wiki link with a "How to setup SSO against SAP  BW in SBO BI4.0 for LDAP users".  and follow the raunak kumar suggestion when you configire SNC and STS.

  • Using roadmap and select-options

I'm new to abap web dynpro, i'm using a roadmap with 4 views. This is working fine but, when I try to use select options in view1 they don't show. When I set view1 as default view the select options are working fine.
this is how my current web dynpro looks like:
Main view -> roadmap with viewcontainerUIElement
view1 -> viewContainerUIElement + table (in the window I embedded the select options in the viewContainerUIElement)
        view2
        view3
        view4
In view1 I'm using wddoinit to initialise the select options.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Srinivas,
According to you mail, I will provide some solution please try them. It will definitely works.
---> Create a attribute which holds the lead selection values of the RADIO_GROUP.
---> When you click on the Next View, You will fire the plug. Right. Just before firing the Plug, update the above
          attribute with update information.
    > Do the same code for Select-options code in the WDDOINIT except the passing the values to the select-options.
    > Please pass the attribute information to Select-options with updated information in the method WDDOMODIFYVIEW every time. Without creating a attribute also you can approach the same method. Just for simple access we can create a attribute. Otherwise without that we can do the same.
So Just populate the values into Select-options depending on the value of RADIO_GROUP you will do the same coding WDDOMODIFYVIEW. But initialization of SELECT-OPTIONS can be only done in the method WDDOINIT method only. WDDOINIT method only execute first time once you go through it and go back and move forward then this method won't execute.
I hope this logic will work for you. If not Please send me the Code related to SELECT-OPTIONS and RADIO_GROUP Button information.
I will be in office today up to 4.45 PM (IST). You can contact me in this time otherwise we will discuss on webex tomorrow morning at 9 AM.
    Warm Regards,
    Vijay

  • How to create olap cube using Named Query Table in Data source View

I Create on OLAP Cube using Existing Tables Its Working Fine But When i Use Named Query Table with RelationShip To other Named query Table  It Not Working .So give me some deep Clarification On Olap Cube for Better Understanding
    Thanks

    Hi Pawan,
What do you mean "It Not Working"? As Kamath said, please post the detail error message, so that we can make further analysis.
In the Data Source View of a CUBE, we can define a named query. In a named query, you can specify an SQL expression to select rows and columns returned from one or more tables in one or more data sources. A named query is like any other table in a data source
view (DSV) with rows and relationships, except that the named query is based on an expression.

  • OBIEE 11G   HOLAP( drill through)   from ORACLE OLAP  to  Relaltional table

    Hi Experts...
I have some idea that the drill through from an essbase cube to an relational cube can be possible with few limitations in OBIEE 10g. I am looking for the same feature with ORACLE OLAP option . I have OLAP cube built in 11g (leve5 - granularity to one of the dimension) , and relational has 7 levels. In OBIEE once drill down to the level 5 it has fetched data from OLAP , and going beyond to level 6 -7 then it should get the data from relational table.
Do anyone had gone through such solution, Please kndly share your inputs and documents which would be helpful.
    Thanks
    S

This is very easy. It's really no different from setting up OBIEE to drill from one table to another. Let's assume that you have your cube mapped in OBIEE using the OBIEE plug-in for Analytic Workspace Manager. Here is an outline of the steps:
    1. Add the dimension table and fact table to the OBIEE physical layer.
    2. Add the new level to the OBIEE dimension object in the business layer.
    3. Add the dimension table as a new logical table source to the existing dimension table in the business layer.
    4. Add the fact table as new table in the business layer.
    5. Define joins in the physical and business model as appropriate.
    6. Set set keys in the tables and the dimension as appropriate.
    7. Set the level for the new dimension table to the appropriate level in the dimension.
Again, it's really best to just think about this as drilling from one table to another.

  • Best tool to analyze SSAS OLAP performance?

I have SQL Server 2014 SSAS OLAP CUBE and Power View SharePoint 2013. Response time is slow in report.
What is best tool to test performance and analyze reasons why Cube is slow?
    Kenny_I

    Hi Kenny_l,
According to your description, you want to monitor the SSAS performance. Right?
In Analysis Services, we can monitor the performance of Analysis Services by using SQL Server Profiler or Performance Monitor. In SQL Server Profiler, we can create and manage traces and analyze and replay trace results. In Performance Monitor,
you can monitor the performance of a Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) instance by using performance counters. Please refer to links below:
Use SQL Server Profiler to Monitor Analysis Services
    Performance Counters (SSAS)
Also we have a lot of load test tool for SSAS, please refer to the link below:

  • Crystal Report installation roadmap

    Hi All,
I googled and found that the the SAP data can be extracted only if SAP BW is configured. We have a different requirement
InfoSet Queries are developed, which extracts data from SAP tables
We need to customize the design of the report, therefore plan to have temporary extracted data in InfoSet query and
install and integrate Crystal Report with Infoset Queries for customizing the layout.
Are our concepts correct about crystal report? If yes, how can we integrate CR with SAP, keeping in consideration that we haven't implemented SAP BW.
In short, installation/configuration of the following scenerio
SAP Tables -> InfoSet Query -> Crystal Report -> Custom Layout with Infoset Query data -> Print
    Thanks in advance.

Thank you Ingo for your valuable response. Infact, I'm a big fan of your blogs @Business Objects.
Actually, the objective is to design reports with customized heading without using ABAP. For the purpose, InfoSet queries are created. Now I'm looking for a tool, e.g. Crystal Reports etc., to design queries output in professional way.
What do you suggest, which product should I opt for temporary purpose? We will be acquiring BOBJ in next fiscal year, which I hope will make our life easy for developing/designing new reports. But at current, which product/roadmap should be focus on?
    Thanks !
