Excel reports with OLAP cube in SharePoint

I have SQL Server 2008 SSAS OLAP Cube. I have also SharePoint 2010.
I want to let users to use pivot like reporting feature. Every user makes own reports.
What are recommended architecture? What tools are needed? What SharePoint 2010 version and features are needed?

    HI,
I want to make an access report from SharePoint Discussion lists 2013. When i open the list with access, the body of the list is in HTML format in access. Also if i reply something to one subject in the discussion, the reply is not mapped to that subject

    Anyone can please help?

    Hi Santhiya,
I have seen a similar post from you, my understanding is that you wonder that the reply is mapped to the related subject. You can take a look at Daniel's reply in the following thread:

  • Use Discoverer with Olap Cubes

Hi, is there any one that know how work Discovere with Olap Cubes?
    Thanks

    hi
if you mean the cubes (rolap/molap), which the bibeans are working on it is a yes/no
for molap cubes:you use the olap table to build a virutal star on top of the analytic workspace, which is then queryable by any relational cube, including discoverer
    for rolap cubes:not (yet)
having said that:watch the announcements during oracleworld

  • Sharepoint 2013 Reporting Services & OLAP Cubes for Data Modeling.

I've been using PowerPivot & PowerView in Excel 2013 Pro for some time now so am now eager to get set up with Sharepoint 2013 Reporting Services.
Before set up Reporting Services  I have just one question to resolve.
What are the benefits/differences of using a normal flat table set up, compared to an OLAP cube?
Should I base my Data Model on an OLAP Cube or just Connect to tables in my SQL 2012 database?
I realize that OLAP Cubes aggregate data making it faster to return results, but am unclear if this is needed with Data Modeling for Sharepoint 2013.
    Many thanks,
    Mike

So yes, PV is an in-memory cube. When data is loaded from the data source, it's cached in memory, and stored (compressed) in the Excel file. (also, same concept for SSAS Tabular mode... loads from source, cached in mem, but also stored (compressed) in data
files, in the event that the server reboots, or something similar).
As far as performance, tabular uses memory, but has a shorter load process (no ETL, no cube processing)... OLAP/MDX uses less memory, by requiring ETL and cube processing... technically tabular uses column compression, so the memory consumption will be based
on the type of data (numeric data is GREAT, text not as much)... but the decision to use OLAP (MDX)/TAB (DAX) is just dependent on the type of load and your needs... both platforms CAN do realtime queries (ROLAP in multidimensional, or DirectQuery for tabular),
or can use their processed/in-memory cache (MOLAP in multidimensional, xVelocity for tabular) to process queries.
if you have a cube, there's no need to reinvent the wheel (especially since there's no way to convert/import the BIDS/SSDT project from MDX to DAX). If you have SSAS 2012 SP1 CU4 or later, you can connect PV (from Excel OR from within SP) directly to the
    MDX cube.
Generally, the benefit of PP is for the power users who can build models quickly and easily (without needing to talk to the BI dept)... SharePoint lets those people share the reports with a team... if it's worthy of including in an enterprise warehouse,
it gets handed off to the BI folks who vet the process and calculations... but by that time, the business has received value from the self-service (Excel) and team (SharePoint) analytics... and the BI team has less effort since the PP model includes data sources
and calculations - aside from verifying the sources and calculations, BI can just port the effort into the existing enterprise ETL / warehouse / cubes / reports... shorter dev cycle.
I'll be speaking on this very topic (done so several times already) this weekend in Chicago at SharePoint Saturday!

  • How to reduce CPU Utlisation while working with OLAP Cubes?

    Hi All,
I am working on OLAP cubes on MS SQL Server 2005. I have imported the same in the OBIEE rpd and when I query it in answers, the CPU Utilisation increases to 98%.
So the results also take pretty much time to get displayed.
Is there any other method with which I can reduce the CPU usage?
    Regards,
    Apoorv

Sorry, but that's like asking "My Data Warehouse is slow! What can I do?!".
Starting from the top of the food chain it depends on:
    - how your report is built
    - what the logical SQL is that this report fires against the BI server
    - your logical business model
    - your physical model in the rpd
    - whether you use BI server aggregation or external aggregation for the cube source columns
    - the structure of your cube
    - whether your cube is pre-aggregated or not
    - whether you did any performance tuning or your cube
...and tons of other things. I can query 5 dimensions with thousands of dynamic and shared members against dynamic accounts (not stored) without performance impact if I'm hitting an optimized cube (or area of my cube) but have > 1min performance for another comparatively simple query which queries a non-aggregated cube and does aggregation within the BI server (just as an example).
Start by verifying that your cube is nicely built.

  • Create report from olap .cub file problem

    hello,
i am using crystal reports 2008. i tried to create a report based off of the sample sales reports.cub file using the olap cube report wizard.
when i moved the measures dimension to the slice list on the slice/page screen and tried to create a parameter field, i got this message "the table measure could not be found'.
i do not understand how that table could not be found when it is in the .cub file.
i'm hoping that someone can tell me because without getting past this, i can't create the olap report.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
    thank you

  • Reg:Webi 3.1 reporting on OLAP cube

    Hallo.
I've created 2  universe  in WebI 3.1 on BW OLAP cube  end on Bex Query .
@funkctions,  aggregate Navigation  is  not availible nowhere . Mergin Demension is not  availible too .
Is that normal in WebI 3.1 on BW OLAP cube  end on Bex Query ?
    Thank you .

    HI Vladimir,
When you create universe on a Bex query or an OLAP cube you will have very limited options or features available in the universe designer. The @functions , aggregate navigation and merge dimensions features will not be available and you will be more dependent on the BW side as you are not free to use the functions and features which are otherwise available with oracle or sql backend.

  • Excel report with formulas intact?

I was told that it is possible to produce an excel report that contains the actual formulas (intact) from the report template, rather than all "hard coded" numbers. Is this possible, if so, where can I go to learn how? If not, is this something that might be coming in the future?

You can generate static Excel output if you are using an RTF template. You can use the BI Publisher Analyzer for Excel (available in BI Publisher 10.1.3.2 and higher) to link to a report and create an Excel workbook that can contain native Excel formulas, charts etc.

  • Is it possible to integrate relational data with OLAP cubes?

I have a web application that accesses cubes created from AWM via the OLAP API. I need to integrate a column from a relational table in the front application and display the column along side cube data.
Is there any way to achieve the functionality from the OLAP API?

Can you explain how the relational data source relates to the OLAP data, is it a master-detail relationship? If this is the case then you could consider the following:
    1) Depending on how you are displaying the OLAP data. If you are using a non-BI Beans presentation bean then if the keys are consistent across both data sources it should be possible to create two separate queries and glue them together using the common keys within your data source module.
    2) Alternatively, you create a custom text measure within AWM and then use OLAP DML to extract the detail data and load it into a multi-line text variable that could be retrieved via OLAPI. This might not work if there is a large number of rows within the text variable to retrieve as formatting the results within your application might get complicated. The OLAP DML Help contains a lot of excellent examples that will help you create a program that uses SQL commands to load data.
    Hope this helps

  • Giving users access to Excel reports created from cubes

I have created several Excel dashboards and would like to give regular users access to view them.  I'd like them to be able to choose their own date ranges using different slicers in the dashboards.  What kind of security do I need to setup to
give a user access to these with only view rights?  It looks like right now they receive a datasource error when they open the files.
    Thanks in advance!

On the DW SQL Server, click Start, click All Programs, click
Microsoft SQL Server 2008, and then click SQL Server Management Studio.
In the Connect to Server dialog box, in the Server type list, select
    Analysis Services.
In the Server name box, select or type the name of the server where the DW DB Server is located, and then click
    Connect.
In Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, in Object Explorer, expand the <server name> node, expand the
Databases node, expand the DWASDataBase node, and then expand the
    Roles node.
    Double-click the SCDW_Report_Readers node.
In the Edit Role dialog box, in the Select a page pane, click
    Membership.
Click Add to add users or click Remove to delete users, and then follow the instructions on the screen. This adds and deletes users who have access to the whole cube.

  • Can an Excel Report with Multivalue Custom field list report on one row per task

I have a ECF Multi Value field (MVF) at the Task Level and have created a report.  In Excel it wants to add it as a Pivotable, which makes sense and I end up with a row for each MVF.  If a Task has 3 MV selected there are 3 rows returned.
I want to see if it will return only one row (row per task).

    Andrew Payze

    Hi Andrew,
I'm not a developer, but I found something in my documentation that could help you. This is a SQL store procedure that returns in an Excel pivot table something like below (GR_test6 being a project and values in the next column being multivalue project ECF
    values).
    SELECT proj.ProjectName,
    lt.MemberFullValue AS 'VLookupField'
    FROM dbo.MSP_EpmProject_UserView AS proj
LEFT OUTER JOIN [dbo].[MSPCFPRJ_ProjectECF_AssociationView] AS MVassoc -- view for multi value field
    ON proj.ProjectUID = MVassoc.EntityUID
LEFT OUTER JOIN dbo.MSP_EpmLookupTable AS lt
    ON MVassoc.LookupMemberUID = lt.MemberUID
    order by ProjectName asc

  • How to use OLAP cubes in Crystal Reports R2?

    Dear All,
I hope someone can help me with the following issue: We are trying to link Crystal Reports XI-R2 with an OLAP cube but the login keeps on failing while the same setup/connection works with Excel.
The OLAP cubes are created through SSAS 2008 and require a windows account for authentication. Because it works via Excel (through pivot table --> external data) the cubes are accessible and the username & password are correctly as well.
Through the OLAP wizard in Crystal Reports the following message is displayed: "The connection could not be established. The logon attempt failed".
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi,
Please check the trouble shooting guide in this article: /people/reuben.cox/blog/2009/12/10/troubleshooting-olap-connectivity-in-business-objects-products
If, after performing these tasks, it still doesn't work, please reply back to this thread with more details about what you have tried and what doesn't work.

  • Sharepoint: Syncing dates in excel columns with Project calendar.

    Hi
I am two questions if you have some time to answer:
First question: I am trying to create a detailed workflow for a Document App.  I basically want to sync dates from certain columns from a number of SharePoint excel spreadsheets
with the calendar on SharePoint for my project.  The dates in the excel spreadsheet will continually change depending on the progress of the project due to cell formulas therefore
i need those dates to change also in theproject calendar.  I am not sure if this can be generated in a workflow (?) or indeed if this is possible at all???
I have tried to use the "Add a Workflow" link to try the above but it does not go into enough detail for me. I have SharePoint Designer installed but i am unsure of how to go about doing this.
Second question: Is there a way to generate a workflow to sync tasks in the Tasks App assigned with "to be completed by" dates with the Project calendar?  I would like to be able to create a task, assign it to someone with a due date and then
have that task appear in the project calendar.
I would very much appreciate any help you could provide me with this.
    Thank you
    Ray

Does anyone have any ideas on how to complete my task above???  I'd be grateful for any suggestions.
