Hello. My old hard drive crashed and I bought a new computer. Unfortunately I did not back up any files from my old computer and lost all files including iTunes music. All I have is the music from my iPod. I would like some help or if anyone knows anything about how to transfer the music from my iPod to my new computer. I guess my new computer is not the original authentic one in the itunes system and will not let me exchange music from my iPod to new computer. I would appreciate help if anyone has ideas. Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

My old computer with all of my music on it crashed and is totally kapaupt. However, like a big dummy, I did not have a back-up for my music library. Is there any way to transfer my music from my Ipod to my new computer????

As you may have already found out that while we can transfer music from iTunes to an iPod, we cannot transfer music from iPod to iTunes.
You need to move your music from your iPod to your new iTunes and one of the ways that you can do this is with the help of a third party software.
Please read [*_This Discussion Thread_*|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10570955#10570955] and pay particular attention to the post from Zevoneer. In his post all available software is listed which you can use to accomplish what you want. Most of the software is free. Good Luck.

IPod Nano, 6th generation, need to transfer music from iPod to new computer!

Just recently my iPod went black. All other features work, so I am assuming the LED light is damaged. The 1 year warranty is up. It would be easier to just get a new iPod.
However, this iPod is now working with a new computer. I have set up the device to only be changed manually so that I did not lose any of the music on the device.
Surely there must be a way to take the music from my iPod and transfer it to the new computer? I am desperate for help; with my iPod damaged I feel like I have lost part of my soul!

The suggestion above may work for you. I hope it does.
For future reference, please keep in mind that the iPhone was never intended to be a a backup device. External hard drives are cheap and both Mac OS X and Windows 7 have built in automated backup utilities. Once you set it up, you just let it run.

Our old Desktop computer crashed, finaly have a new computer, but am unsure hoe to transfer all content (music, games, movies & photos) from iPod classic to new computer.
Our last computer run on Windows XP & the new one is Vista, have already down loaded new version of iTunes to new computer, but don't want to plug in iPod, just yet. Don't want to loose all our music (over 2000 songs ) Some are from the iTunes store & some are from our CD colletion, which took ages to put on computer. I also have over 200 photos that were on old computer & is on iPod that I would like to transfer to new computer. Have also purchased movies from iPod Lounge (not iTunes) & am hoping that I will be able to transfer these as well. What do you do if you get a new computer? Itunes says IPOD is synced with another library and will not transfer music.

If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.

My computer's hardrive crashed and I had to replace the entire hardrive. (Grrrrrr!) I lost the folder that contained all of my music. I re-downloaded iTunes onto my computer with the new hard drive but now my library is empty. All my songs are still in my iPod...

You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys (on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. Just recently my computer died. This computer was the computer I used with my ipod. I got a new computer, but I don't know how to plug my ipod into it without it deleting all the music I have. I tend to lose/scratch/brake cds, which is why I love my ipod. the problem is that this means I can't find some of the music and only have it on my ipod. Is there anyway to put the music from my ipod onto my new computer, or can I never plug my ipod into a computer without the music being deleted?
I went to the FAQ pg about putting music from old computer onto a new one, but you need to have the old computer, and my old computer is completely dead. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
