On a PDF form, Save acts as if Save-As

Windows XP SP3
Adobe Reader 10.1.1.33
I have started to fill out my U.S. federal tax forms for this year, just the names and address and a few checkboxes.  These are savable PDF files that I downloaded and saved from the IRS Web site.  I am doing this offline, in Adobe Reader not in my Web browser
When I go to save the result, I get a Save As file-selection window.  I get this either by selecting the Save button on the toolbar or [File > Save] on the menubar.  I am not selecting [File > Save As] on the menubar.
Selecting Save (not Save As) should save the file back into the same file that was openned.  I should not get a Save As file-selection window.
Is this intentional, or is this a bug?
By the way, how can I submit a bug report on this?  I went to Adobe's Bugbase, but the pull-down list of products did not include Adobe Reader.

Download a US IRS tax form from http://apps.irs.gov/app/picklist/list/formsPublications.html.  I suggest searching on that site for Form 1040.
Open the PDF file for the tax form in Adobe Reader and fill-in some data.  No, the data does not have to be realistic.  Save the PDF file.  Close Adobe Reader.  Double-click on the PDF file to open it again in Adobe Reader.  Fill-in some more data and change some of the data you previously inserted.  On the Adobe Reader menu bar, select [File > Save], NOT [File > Save As].

  • Created a PDF form on a PC, need save as button to work on Mac

    I have created a lovely fillable PDF form for my boss as a client would like to be able to have a rather large interactive PDF document, and the deciding factor on if we get this work is whether i can get this to work so i'm hoping you lovely people will be able to help me out on this as i haven't been able to find ANY documentation on this thus far. I have created a 1 page PDF as a test subject, which has a few text boxes, some check boxes, radio buttons, a list box and a combo box which all work great. I have also added a "Save As" button to my document (so I have set the buttons actions to Execute a menu item > File > Save As...) which works just fine on my PC. But when this button is pressed on a Mac, nothing happens. (Also my PDF form didn't look quite right on the mac, some of the formatting was off, text boxes and combo boxes were a bit squashed, but i think this is a seperate issue altogether which im sure i can figure out by myself) Now i think i know why this is happening, i believe it's because the button is set to go to "File > Save As" and im guessing the command to save on a Mac is different? or points to a different file location? (I'm not very clued up about Mac's...)
    So my question is this, is there any way to have a Save As button in my PDF document that will allow both PC and Mac users to save the fillable PDF form? (Oh by the way I have made sure that once i created my form I extended the features for reader to make sure that the form was savable once filled in.)
    Also, i know this is a completely seperate question, but if anyone had any answers on this it would be GREAT, When creating a text field in the form and coming out of form editing, the text field is shown as a horrible pale blue colour, which i know is there so that the user can tell that there is a form field there, but this pale blue really does NOT go with the aesthetic of the document. After digging around for a bit, i found out that the pale blue is a highlight colour which can be set in your preferences in reader or acrobat. Is there anyway that i could change this highlight colour for the document so that whomever opens the document on their PC / Mac doesn't have to see that horrible pale blue? Without them manually having to change their preferences in reader?
    Thanks in advance for all of your help,
    Danny.

    Double-check that the file is opened in Adobe Reader on the Mac and not in
    Preview, which is known to have various problems with it comes to forms.
    Regarding the highlight color: You can't either change it, or disable it
    completely.
    app.runtimeHighlight is a boolean that determines whether the form fields
    are highlighted, and app.runtimeHighlightColor is a color object that
    determines which color is used. Notice that these are system-wide
    preferences, so if you change them it will affect other documents as well.

  • Can someone help me email pdf form after filled out/saved toanother party without it showing up blank?

    I own a windows RT and am desperately looking for an app that I can fill out PDF forms created by my job to then email to another party. It seems after I open a PDF form I have to then save it as a copy before I can even start working on it and then save it again once finished. Then when I email it to someone within my company it always arrive blank but when I get the bad news I'll go back to view the form and its filled out on my end. Can someone please help me with this situation?

    I just have the most recent app available for the Microsoft surface RT so if it is the 11.0.07 then great but I'm still having troubles with the surface RT only. Any ideas?

  • The number of copies of the PDF forms

    If I have a PDF form with the possibility to save the changes (the download from the Internet), how it filled up I can save on your computer? Only 500?

    If you are collecting data and expect the use to exceed 500, then do not used Reader Rights. However, for Reader to submit the form, it will either have to be printed or the data submitted (not the entire form). The data (FDF file typically) is easily imported into the form on your end. You can also use the FDF Toolkit to manipulate the data files to include in a database and such with a bit of programming. The only disadvantage to no Reader Rights is that folks with Reader can not complete the form and then save it. They can only print it or submit the data file.

  • Is there a way to create a PDF form that ANYONE can fill out and SAVE with their content?

    Is there a way to create a PDF form that ANYONE can fill out and SAVE with their content? By anyone, I mean someone who can download and use the free Adobe Reader, on either a Mac or PC. I have Acrobat Pro, and would like to be able to create forms that can not only be filled out and printed, but saved and emailed, which is not an option with the forms I have created to date. They can be filled out, but not saved, with Adobe Reader.
    TIA,
    Nancy

    To do what Dave indicated you need to do, it depends on what version of Acrobat you have:
    Acrobat 8: Advanced > Enable Usage Rights in Adobe Reader
    Acrobat 9: Advanced > Extend Features in Adobe Reader
    Acrobat 10: File > Save As > Reader Extended PDF > Enable Additional Features
    Acrobat 11: File > Save as Other > Reader Extended PDF > Enable More Tools (includes form fill-in & save)
    I wonder what it will be next time?

    I have created a form in InDesign, exported to a pdf, then created an editable form and saved.  When I open the form and make changes and save, then reopen the changes are there.  If try to email this form as an attachment after editing, the attachment is always minus the edits.   ????

    Hi chuck,
    If you ave created the form and then filling it yourself and saving the form, the filled data should be there when you reopen the same form.
    Can you please send the form to me at [email protected]  so that I can have a look.

  • 1)form to capture data 2) massage data/output 3) import data from Step 2 to PDF FORM 4) save for download

    I have a project that entails tax forms from the IRS  -- I know everyone's favorite stuff.
    1)I need to setup a form that asks the webusers questions regarding their personal tax information -
    2) then validate/massage that data/information and determine what PDF form template to output this data to. (possibly output to 4 forms determined by users response)
    3) output the data collected in step 1 to the correct PDF template/form example template= http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040.pdf  - applying the data to the correct fields - bascially filling out the users name, address, calculations etc.
    4)allow the user to save/print/download the produced form in step 3
    I know I am not the first person to need this functionality. Can you please simply answer my question - can this be done?  Does it require software from other companies, or is this something that can be accomplished with just adobe products?  If so, can you point me to some tutorials that show me the necessary process to do this?
    I very much appreciate any support you can provide me - I need to start on this project yesterday.
    Thanks in advance for your time.

    In your PHP code, change this -
    $editFormAction = $_SERVER['PHP_SELF'];
    to this -
    ?>
    <?php
    if ((isset($_POST["MM_insert"])) && ($_POST["MM_insert"] == "registreren")) {
    // add your captcha verification code here ....
    // captcha most likely ends with a header command to relocate failed attempts, so make sure you add
    // an exit() command after that header.  Otherwise, allow the successful captcha to fall into the following
    // block of code.
    // don't ignore that closing brace
    ?>
    <?php
    $editFormAction = $_SERVER['PHP_SELF'];

  • How do I set up a .pdf form to save filled data without having to print the form?

    How do I set up a .pdf form to save filled data without having to print the form?  I have provided my clients a lifecycle .pdf form they can use to record data for unique client meetings.  They want the ability to save their completed data whenever they use the form under a unique file name.  I've told them the only way I know how to do this is to print the completed form as a .pdf document and then save it.
    Is their a way to save the data to a unique file name without printing the filled form?
    Is there a way to reset the form with blank fields after saving? or to add a clear fields button?
    Thanks.

    If you reader extend  a pdf using livecycle reader extensions then you can save the filled in data - this is true if you are using Adobe reader to view the PDF's. If you open it in Acrobat then the functionality is already there.

    I am creating a form, it shows 1 page, but when I save it as a PDF Form there are 2 pages, 1 is blank. How do I get rid of the blank page in the form?

    Hi,
    You may open the original form in FormsCentral and toggle to “Page View” at the lower right corner. Adjust the page content to make sure no page breaks in this view.
    Thanks,

  • Created PDF form in Acrobat XI Pro, but HELP fields disappear when I save FCDT file to PDF. Please help. Thanks!

    Created PDF form in Acrobat XI Pro, but HELP fields disappear when I save FCDT file to PDF. Please help. Thanks!

    I am not aware of a field type "Help" within a PDF form. I do not see it as a form field that can be added in the form edit mode.
    Forms Central forms do not support all the features of Acrobat forms.
    Are you talking about the "Tool Tips" or a hidden field that only shows when one enters a field and is hidden upon exiting the field.

  • Trying to create a customized PDF form to save and re-use

    Hi,
    New to this program. I have created a "fill-in-the-blanks" PDF form and have saved it. But now when I print the form, there are characters in the beginning of the text boxes.  They are T and E. I don't understand why she characters are there and how do I get rid of them. We want this form to fill in the blanks format, then we want to be able to save it, and go on to the next one. In other words we will be re-using this format over and over again. Can someone help me? I am frustrated as I am almost there. Plus I downloaded a 30 day trial of Adobe Pro 9 to see if I could do this.....so I don't know if I will need to buy this program or not. Thanks.

    I don't want to post this form. I've attached it here for you to look at. I think I created it using forms.

  • Error reads "Cannot save information" when trying to save my pdf form on another computer

    Can anyone tell me what I have done wrong in the creation of my PDF form.   When we try to open it on another PC it comes up with another window which reads as follows:
    Cannot Save Form Information
    PLEASE NOTE:   You cannot save a competed copy of this form on your computer.
    If you would like a copy for your records, please fill it in and print it.
    If anyone can help me, I would be greatly appreciative !
    Thanks,
    Robert

    That message shouldn't show up if you use Reader 11 or DC, unless the form was created with LiveCycle Designer. It also won't happen in Reader if you Reader-enable the form in Acrobat. To do so with Acrobat 11 select:
    File > Save As Other > Reader Extended PDF > Enable More Tools
    The specific menu items are different for every other version of Acrobat.

  • I Created a pdf form in Adobe Acrobat X.  Adobe Reader cannont print or save it?

    I work for a foodservice company with different locations.  Each location has Adobe Reader.  I created a pdf form for each site to fill out, save and print for postings ect...  They keep getting a printing error.  "The document could not be printed"  after that it says "No pages selected to print".  They also are not allowed to save the file???  I want them to be able to print and save copies.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    I do not see a "Enable protected mode at startup" anywhere...
    You need to disable that preference in the individual users versions on Reader, not your version of Acrobat.
    nwy999 wrote:
    and how do you enable the forms to be saved by reader in acrobat?
    To enable forms in Acrobat XI go to File>Save as other>Reader Extended PDF...

    Users can get the newest Reader at Adobe - Adobe Reader download - All versions
