On demand - no Christmas movies. .....

I remember last December there were a lot of Christmas themed movies, some good home bad. This year, none. What's going on?

A Christmas Story was added to the Warner fims on demand today.
Unaccompanied Minors  (aka as Grounded) was also added today
A Christmas Carol is also listed as being available in next Fridays update of warner Films.

  • Why can't I easily search on demand for a movie that I''m currently watching?

This may seem like a silly question but it's something no one can really answer but everyone I ask thinks its a great idea.  I'll set the situation up:  I change the channel to HBO and I see a movie (let's say Gladiator) is already playing and it's about half way through.  I decide I'd like to watch the movie in it's entirety at that moment  (not search for upcoming shows or schedule a recording in the future).  How come there isn't some sort of link available that will take me directly into On Demand to see if the movie/show I'm currently is available?  Say something like while watching the movie I could press the "Info" button and there is a "Search On Demand" option.  Or even better yet, an area on the Info screen that says "Available on On Demand - Click to watch"  The current process would require me to press the On Demand button (and exit the movie), and either browse through the options (Premium Channels>HBO>All Movies>) and scroll to find "Gladiator" or either press the On Demand button>Search and then enter in "Gladiator" using the on-screen keyboard (not fun)
Like I said, I know its silly in the grand scheme of the world, but it seems like something that wouldn't require a lot (it's not like I'm wishing for a dedicated button on the remote) and would be a nice feature to have.
Anyways what I suspect is that Verizon wants you to browse the On Demand section from the first screen so that you're bombarded with the ads for the up coming pay per views.

It is a good idea. However given the situation you mentioned I believe I would just set the movie to record so that I could watch it later. Sometimes a movie will play on live tv but still not be available On Demand.
Remember if you are already part way into a movie and your tuner wasn't already on that channel (or if its already 1 hour in) you can't just record it.  You need to find upcoming time or a On demand.  The one is easy to do the other may not be, and is what the OP is asking for.

I checked this for you and was not able to see any charges for this at this time. The system will usually not charge if you stopped it immediately and did not watch it. If it does happen to show in your next cycle, just let me know via private message. I will make sure we clear it for you. -FC

  • Can I use the same media clips for multiple movies?

What I'd like to do is import about 15 - 20 hours of camcorder footage, and use that to cut several different iMovies. These are home movies that cover about 5 years, so I'd like to make a Halloween movie using just the halloween clips, and then make a christmas movie, and a birthday movie, etc.
Is there a way to do this without having every separate iMovie import its own clips? Or in other words can I have all of my imported media sharing by multiple iMovies? Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Anthony

    Welcome to the forum, Anthony.
It's a good question, with no easy answers. Every few weeks someone asks a similar question here. They plan to import many hours of video into iMovie, then build multiple projects from that video. Some have already imported the video and are trying to deal with a huge, unmanageable project.
iMovie isn't designed to share Media files -- the video files iMovie HD imports to the Media folder of the project package. (To look inside the package, Control-click on the package icon and choose "Show Package Contents" from the popUp menu.) Rather, iMovie HD requires each project has its own Media files.
iMovie HD is a non-destructive editing environment, which means the entire Media file supporting a clip "sticks" to the clip -- the entire file. The file is never shortened. The file is discarded by iMovie only if you discard every clip associated with that file. In other words, stuff tends to stick around. And the stuff of 15-20 hours of video is large enough to fill a huge hard drive. So we're talking lots of stuff x 2 or 3 here, which is a lot of stuff.
As you import the video, iMovie HD creates a new Media file at each scene break. Some of those files can be very large -- 12 GB if the hour has no breaks -- so before long your multiple projects are consuming huge amounts of disk space. Although you can Copy and Paste clips between projects, doing so duplicates the entire source file of the clip. So a 20 second clip that's part of a 4 GB Media file that you Copy from Project A to Project B now consumes an ADDITIONAL 4 GB of disk space in Project B.
When projects reach huge, many users give up in frustration. They've invested lots of time accumulating the video, but they have so much stuff they don't know what to do with it. And sometimes the project size causes iMovie to choke.
Everything is a lot easier if you plan ahead. Plan WAY ahead. Consider importing just the video you need for each of the (small) projects. Finish one project at a time, then move on to the next one.
The trick is to view all the video before you begin, and make an index of what video you want to keep, what you want to discard, and what video goes in each (small) project. Use the timecode of your camera to log the location(s) in your index. (If you're using iMovie to view the video in the camera, you might want to take screen captures.)
When you are done making the index, you are ready to build the Halloween project. Import the Halloween chunks from all the tapes to a Halloween project, edit it, and burn it to a DVD, export it back to a new "Halloween" camcorder tape, or do whatever you want with it.
Don't miss that if you import all the Halloween clips to a project, you can export that project back to a new tape in the camcorder. The clips will (usually) retain their clip-ness, so when you re-import that tape to a project the clips will come back as discrete clips. Tapes can be useful place to store clips temporarily, or as permanent vault organized by topic.
Good luck with your project. It'll be fun, but it's going to take a while. Relax, take your time, and enjoy it.

  • New Release Movies

I have been trying to figure out what is going on with On Demand New Release Movies. In December there were "Coming Soon" movies--Blue Jasmine, Gravity, Rush, The Butler, Captain Phillips.  Some had 'available for viewing' dates and some did not.  The Butler was dated 12/31, Rush was dated 1/14, Blue Jasmine 1/14, etc.  Then as the dates got closer, the dates on half of the movies disappeared and they were not available and some dates changed. None of them have been available for renting. Most of them only had  Pre-Buy, with no dates as to when these films that you buy would even be available to view if you bought them or be available to rent.  Frankly it was one big mess and I could not understand why the new release dates are so screwed up.
Is there a reason Verizon cannot simply put the real date these movies will be available to be rented as long as they are promoting them? Do they omit the actual rental dates so you will buy a movie? What is the point of NOT letting viewers know when the movie can be rented On Demand? I find this exceptionally frustrating as surely Verizon knows at least one month in advance when the movies will be available to rent!  Is this just more corporate disorganization? What department do you even call to find out when the real date is available to rent? I can't even believe people pre-buy streaming movies without a date for when you actually can view them. They ought to be putting the real date for buying and the real date for renting. Are the On Demand movies posted by the same people who do the guide (as there are frequently mistakes on that as well)?

No, there are no parental controls on iPad.  Would it work if I did a hard sync with the USB connector rather than relying on Wi-Fi? I've seen the posts about certain studios not allowing additional downloads but I've got movies from the same studio with one showing up and another one not showing up.

  • Broadband OK - Connection to On Demand FAIL

Hi All, Hopefully if this just saves one person all the time and pain I went through it has served it's purpose! I spent many months trying to find a resolution to this - I was part of many threads lots of which were closed.I had wired, wireless, air ties, wireless connector, ethernet over power etc. lots of different methodologies of connectivity different boxes etc. old software, new software - but everything stopped after an update to the Sky Software and ON Demand/catch-up never worked. Went through planner rebuilds - all the usual trouble-shooting etc. BUT getting to the point...I found an obscure resolution on a Netflix forum! This basically involved adding some additional OPENDNS servers to my router DNS Server settings - these had never been required before but adding them fixed the issue. Like I say hope this helps someone!

Having experienced the same problem (the OnDemand FAIL started a few days ago after one of the usual Sky HD updates, nothing otherwise had changed at this end), I looked at the linked thread below but what was there was a long way beyond my technical comfort-zone, so I phoned Sky. nebnebneb wrote:
Hi just passing on information, i had on demand faliures for movies but seemed ok with box sets. I have a plus net Technicolor TG582n. Adding in the dns routers has seemed to fix the problem. For info on adding these entries: http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,125187.0.html/Got through to Sky almost straight away and spoke to R (cricket player in India) and we spent a loong time getting this sorted.  Really helpful guy (haven't quoted his full name because I think they have to stay anonymous). Anyway, what FIXED this is what follows.  First of all we did the obvious stuff like re-establishing the  OnDemand-router connection, and re-booting the Sky HD box.  Nothing. Various other things were tried like a rebuild - housekeeping (forget quite how we got there) but still showing FAIL on "connection to OnDemand" ("connection to Broadband Router" consistently okay). For reference, the easy way to the Network page is services 0 5 select. What fixed the problem was this. First re-boot the internet router (just take the power wire out of the back, wait a few seconds, replace, and wait for all the lights to come back on. Second turn off the main power switch that powers your OnDemandRouter and Sky HD box.  *then* hold down the "back up" button on top of the HD box and KEEP IT HELD DOWN while you switch the main power switch back on.  I was told to hold the back-up button down for a few more seconds before releasing it. Almost straight away some very large letters came up on the TV screen, advising that HD was being updated.  It was a good ten minutes before those went away.  Eventually pressed the Sky button on the remote but didn't get Sky, there were intermittent messages saying Sky HD was being updated, or initialising, or whatever, and the green light changed to amber and then to all four little lights (all different colours) on the front lighting up, then back to amber I think and eventually to green.   This is a looong process (the whole thing took about 20 minutes I think, maybe longer). But it *worked* and once Sky was up and running again, services 0 5 select brought up the Network screen with "connection to OnDemand" finally saying OK. I can't thank R in India enough.  However our two phone calls took the best part of an hour and I figured if anyone else is having this problem, the least I could do would be to put details on here of how it got fixed. I hope the above guide to fixing this helps someone.  Probably only for people with HD boxes, don't know that it would work for a normal Sky box. Just for clarification our broadband connection is with someone other than Sky (very long story).

  • MRS 8.0 - Unable to reassign Demand to another Planning node

    Hi All,
I am new to MRS 8.0 and I am having a problem with reassigning a demand from one planning node to another from the demand layout view. I have configured Resource Planning Nodes and Evaluation Paths as defined in the SAP Config guide.
The steps I performed to try and reassign are as follows
Select the demand from the demand layout screen, use the context menu to click on the demand details menu.
Modify the work center to a different work center and click the change button.
At this point the demand seemed to move to the other planning node.
On selecting save it moves back to the original planning node.
On checking the demand from IW33 the work center remains the same as it was before.
However instead of changing the work center when I change the duration/resources for the demand the demand gets updated correctly with the duration/resources suggesting that backward integration is working between MRS and PM/CS.
I appreciate your valuable inputs in resolving this issue.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Can you check in /MRSS/IMG, In Basic settings, Assign objects, Assign workcenter types for demands, Have you defined the correct mapping here?

  • 11,000 FREE On-Demand Titles???

Hello, Looking thru the Spotlight magazine I got in the mail, there is a DARE TO COMPARE ad comparing Fios VOD to Redbox and Netflix. Long story short, in the FREE TITLES category FIOS VOD says "Over 11,000 per month!" also I have seen numbers like this on their TV commercials as well. my question is where the heck are those!?
FEARNET has about 35 movies, Filmfest has 8, Illusion has 7, TCM has 5, and a handful of others have 2 or 3. so where exactly are the other 10,900??? I assume they are also counting single music videos (5 minutes music videos is counted as a free title?), or 6 minute episodes of Diffrent Strokes and Newsradio as titles? even counting all that stuff, it doesnt come anywhere near 11,000 titles unless i am missing something big time.
I did have HBO and Cinemax and Starz etc for awhile, and those had "free movies" but they were PAY channels so I dont see how those are considered part of the free 11,000 titles.
Comcast had a ton of free movies on their demand (the same movies that Fios charges money for) and the Fios rep said they had tons more than Comcast, I guess he was kinda lying.
anyone have any input? I would would love to find these hidden free titles.

I must agree there is a mystery here.  You'd think something that had that many entries would be easy to find .  I think one of two scenarios exists.
1] they have made it too complicated to even access the free ones and very easy to access the pay titles to encourage people to just give up and pay,
2] no such number of free titles exists but, an infinitely smaller and much less appealing to a prospective customer number does.

  • Transfer to iPhone 6 demands moving my old SIM over?

Want to transfer 5S to my new iPhone 6. New phone has a SIM but online transfer process demanding that I move my 5S SIM into my 6. How do I transfer without moving the SIM?

Hi there zip4635. Congratulations on the new iPhone! I am sure that you are really looking forward to using it. Quick question for you, why is that you don't want to transfer the SIM card? The SIM card simply provides 4G service to the phone. It doesn't store information or anything like that. What you can do, if you really want to use the new SIM is activate the new phone with the old SIM first, then put the new SIM in an activate it that way. Let us know if you have any further questions!

  • On Demand WATCHED shows no longer are highlited as WATCHED

All of the shows and series that I have watched over the past couple years are now showing as no longer watched.  This is an issue when going back to series where I have forgotten where I am in a certain season.   I liked the ability to just look on the ON DEMAND page for movies to scan thru the icons and quickly identify the WATCHED shows.   I called support and they were going to send some type of signal down the line to refresh but has not worked yet.   Anyone else with this issue....i know it may be trivial....but I really liked it.    Thanks for any help!

Hey BooLoo welcome to my nightmare.    I notice Comcast GWEN is answering some concerns or Comcast TED  where are you?    This continues to annoy me as things stay watched briefly then turn on later and it does not stay watched.
I am convinced this feature that has gone away is wide spread but I am also convinced that most do not care I guess and are too busy to worry about it.  I admit I get a bit A...L or OC about things like this but it is a very convenient feature to keep track of where you are in a multi season series and I like to be able to skim right past a movie if I watched it when searching On Demand.
At my age I sometimes forget when I have watched a particular movie or episode.   Please acknowledge what is going on Gwen or Ted.
I was getting the same thing myself, my notifications were on. I turned them off and turned them back on and the watched symbol was where it should be.

  • How do I recover an episode of a tv show if I accidently deleted it from itunes in the cloud?

I recently tried to free up space on my pc, by going into iTunes and deleting episodes of a tv show I watch often & repeatedly, but knowing that I usually download it when needed to give my iPhone/ipad space the rest of the time.
However, somehow I found my self in the purchased section and after hitting the delete cross symbol, I noticed it didn't look like it usually does, so I went  back to check if its was available on ipad or phone and found somehow I had deleted it entirely and could no longer download it!
When I did a separate search on iTunes it did show up that I had purchased the series, except that episode was no longer available to download unless I purchased it again.
I am tempted to press purchase in the hope that iTunes will automatically figure out that I bought it before, but chances are I will get charged again.
I was wondering if anyone else had come across this and if there is a way to switch off deletion from the account, as I wanted to share the account with my family but am having second thoughts if someone does the same thing that I just have.
Any answers would be greatly appreciated.
Ps, I have asked apple support twice with an automated response saying I should get some answer in 24 hours, but perhaps due to high demands of Christmas, I have had no answer this week!
    Hopefully something will come up?
    Thanks

It sounds like you may have hidden it, in which case you should be able to unhide it : iTunes Store: Hiding and unhiding purchases. (You can't turn off the hiding of items.)
But you should be keeping and maintaining a backup copy of all of your downloads and not relying on being able to redownload them - any item could be removed from the store by the rights-holders at any time, if they do then you won't be able to redownload them (nor will be able to do redownload items if you move countries).

  • Compare two columns and formate based on condition

I know this dead horse has been beaten and I've read my fair share of threads and manuals to no avail..  I have two list that consist of movie titles, holiday movies to be exact.  I'm creating a holiday movie schedule which consist of three(3) columns...A,B and C.  Column A is the Date, Sat, November 17 2012 thru Monday, Dec 24, 2012.  Column C consist of a movie list divided into 2 sections with three subsections each.  Section 1 is animated movies and Section 2 is live action, each subsection, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3 are lists based on popularity with the kids...low, medium and high respectively.  And finally column B is the movie list relative the column A...the schedule.
As I write a movie title in column B, I'd like the cell fill to be light red and the corresponding title in column C change to strike through font type.  This way I know I've added the movie title to the schedule...this comes in handy when I ask the kids to help so we have no duplicates in the schedule.  I'm assuming this would take a combination of; Conditional Formatting, cell formulas and perhaps an additional blank column for trigger results.
I'm including the table, which include an experimental column I was working on.  As an FYI, this has been completed in Excel already, just hoping to get it done in Numbers.
Thanks for any help anyone can give.

    Hi Stephen,
Both of these are solvable, and the Date solution cold be similar to that used for the 'stock list' in column C. The Movie Title solution is a different case, though.
The stock list is edited only occasionally, so requiring the user to unhide column C, add a title, then rehide the column is workable.
The same is true of the date list, so this too would work with the dates entered into a column that will be hidden, then copied into a visible column with a formula that introduced a detectable difference into the copied version, dependent on the weekday of each date. That difference would be used to trigger the conditional formatting of the cell containing the calculated date as text value. See the example below.
But the (scheduled) Movie Title column doesn't fit nicely into that mode of operation, as it is edited quite often. As editing, usng the model described, requires making the data column visible, editing the entry (or entries) in that column, then rehiding the column, the hassle factor soon becomes insufferable, if nothing else.
The first solution I considered (see earlier reply) is workable only if the the formatted table starts and remains the same size in all details (ie. individual row height) as the main table.Any change in row height in the main table not reflected in the auxiliary table immediately destroys the impression of formatting applying to the correct cells. With cells set to wrap text and varying lengths of movie titles, wrapped lines changing the height of individual rows is pretty much unavoidable.
Best practice here would seem to be to use a separate column to flag the titles already in the "Class" list with a "√" (or flag those not in the list with an "X"), and use conditional formatting to change the background colour of the flagging cell.
Here's a sample, using "W" to flag the weekend dates in the new column B, and "√" to flag the titles that are on the list already in the new column D.
I've added two titles to the weekend date, November 18. One is non-existent (as far as I know), so it doesn't appear in the list and doesn't get flagged; the other is chosen from a visible part of the list to show the highlighting of the title in that list. Column "C" (now column "F" due to the insertion of two new columns) is hidden. G, labelled .Class, is the calculated column (D) from the previous message.

  • Can't take the VOD_174 and VOD_127 errors any more!

    Hello,
Ever since I switched to FiOS from TWC, I experienced this issue: in the middle of watching a VOD movie (I subscribed all the On Demand features), the movie would freeze, then stop and display the error message VOD_174.
If I'm lucky, I would then resume where it stopped. Sometimes, it is worse, I get the error VOD_127, and even if I try resuming the movie, it will play from the very beginning.
It is a night mare as I have to FFW. Sometimes, the FFW doesn't work well and I takes a while after I hit "Play" to have it stop FFW and play (as if the remote was insensitive). why is there only one FFW speed and not many like in the DVR???
I ended up in a situation where each time I want to watch a VOD program, I "pray" that everything will work fine and that it will not interrupt suddenly and that I have to restart everything.
This is very annoying. If someone can help me understand what's wrong with my FiOS, I will be so grateful!
    Best regards,
    -VinnyH

These are session time out messages. Theres a loss of connectivity causing it to time out. Many things could be causing this. To address them all please do the following
    1) Reseat the coaxial cable to Set Top Box (STB)  from both ends (back of the box and the connection at the wall)
    2) Reseat the coaxial cable to router from both ends (back of the router and the connection at the wall)
    3) Unplug power cord to both router and STB.
If your issue persists perform a factory reset on the router by holding in the reset button on the back of router (while the router is on) for 15 seconds and let go

I downloaded it and looked at it.  Even Graphic Converter can't recover any pixels or meaningful data, just some general information:
In my experience, if GraphicConverter can't open it, nothing will.
    Your file is toast  Sorry.

  • Missing Features (why I won't yet recommend FiOS TV)

    Hi all,
I wanted to post here in hopes that Verizon hears my complaints and does something about it.  I don't know if there is a bug / feature reporting tool they have publicly available, so I'm using this forum.
Overall, we love everything about Verizon.  Great service and support, great internet speeds and up-time, super sharp TV picture, responsive modern UI!  Love it.
I would recommend everything to my friends and family except the TV service, and this is because the DVR is missing some basic functionality.  Here are the things I want to see fixed added before I'm willing to recommend Verizon TV to others (DirectTVs DVR is better in this regard, but unfortunately we can't get a signal at our new place)
    Missing features:
    1) Extend an active recording
-- This is a deal breaker if you are a sports fan.  Once a recording has started, there is no way to extend it.  I've seen post saying "just subscribe to the series with a custom end time", and "just record the show after it".  These are lame work arounds.  This is pretty basic functionality.  A better work around would be for Verizon to allow me to set a custom stop time when I start a single recording.  Why isn't this an option??? It's clearly able to handle setting a custom end time when setting up series recordings, how is this different?
    2) Can not pause an on-demand show
-- I can not see paying for any on-demand shows without this functionality.  Have you ever watched a movie straight through without needing to pause the DVD? With TV shows, if you watch it live they show enough commercials to fit in a quick bathroom break or make popcorn, whatever.  With on-demand, there are less commercials (this is good), and that makes it harder to take a quick break...  Further, if you have kids... you NEED a way to pause to, um, deal with the kids on occasion.  I can understand wanting to disable FFwd (to disable skipping commercials), or Rwnd (to disable someone trying to play a pay movie multiple times), but Pause??? come on...   Add the ability to pause, and it may be enough for me to cancel my Netflix subscription, and give my money to the Verizon on-demand service instead...
I'd love to hear from a Verizon employee on at least #1.  This is my number one complaint.  I'm a sports fan and this is killing me...  Is there an ETA on fixing this? Some where better for me to voice my concern? Like I said, #1 really prevents me from recommending Verizon TV to anyone.  I love everything else, so missing this one this is a real shame.

I also will not recommend Fios TV. The channel/program guide is useless as well as paying for outdated movies on the movie package. I will list the problems and hopefully Verizon will review and possibly correct or update these issues.
    BIOS TV
    1. Program/Channel Information Guide
Not Informative - No year or actor listing with very limited program story information.
Incorrect Program Listing - Guide has listing of a program or movie and when you select the program to watch it has a
different program/movie on the channel.  Cyberspace TV?
    2. Movies included and provided basic subscription
           Limited
    3. Optional Purchase Packages:  HBO/Cinemax, The Movie Package
99% Outdated movies (from the last century and beyond).
Very limited movie selection for ON Demand, no new movies added/scheduled for long periods of time and again
        movies are old and outdated.
If Verizon ever decides to update FIOS TV to meet public standards in the very near future then I will renew my contract otherwise I can not see spending my money on inadequate subscriptions. My Fios bundled was installed in May 2009.
    Thank you.

    1. This is upcomming. When looking at the guide it gives a basic description, but if you hit info it gives a more detailed description. actors and dates are something in the works.   As for the wrong show, this may or may not be a Verizon issue. Sometimes Verizon's guide is just wrong. But more often than not, it is a problem with the channel not verizon. If the channel said they would have show "a" on and that is what verizon put on their guide, then the channel had a change or problem with the show at the last minute, it would not have been communicated to Verizon so they were expecting to show "a" but ended up broadcasting show "b". I live in an area where fios tv is not available yet and I have Direct TV. Same thing happens there. We notice it especially on cartoon network ourselves, I record pokemon for my nephew and about half the time they will have "the adventures of flapjack" instead. Its not a problem with Directv's guide, its a problem with cartoon network in my case. This is not to say that the problem you are seeing is not a verizon issue in some cases. but in a lot of cases, its a problem with the channel itself and there is nothing verizon can do in those instances
    2. There are several movie channels included in the base packages. I.E.  AMC, TCM, Bravo, etc.   Things like showtime, IFC, Encore and such will always be extra.
    3. Content on the movie packages is in no way controled by Verizon. This complaint needs to be sent to those channels themselves. Verizon has no say in the content on the channels.
