On upgrading to Ver 4 I lost my Norton toolbar if I upgrade to Ver 5 will I lose it again?

When I upgraded to Firefox 4 I lost my Norton toolbar with the security logins. Norton managed to restore the toolbar by upgrading to the latest version 2011. Will I lose this toolbar again when I upgrade to Firefox 5

I use Norton 360 and it's compatible with the latest Firefox 8 version. However, you will have to activate or [http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-360/Firefox-8-Support-for-Norton-Toolbar/td-p/581640 enable] the add-ons since Firefox 8 automatically disables the add-ons for security reasons.
You are right though, some companies do take some time until they have updated their add-ons to be compatible with the latest versions of Firefox.

I've lost my Norton toolbar AGAIN because of this upgrade -- really getting frustrated with Mozilla -- how do I get it back?

Everytime I upgrade to the latest version of Firefox I end up losing my Norton toolbar which has all my logins and security settings on it. I tried to avoid accepting the latest upgrade, but my husband downloaded it. I am getting very frustrated and angry every time this happens. Where can I find the fix for thisk problem?

When Firefox updates to a new version all the add-ons you have installed need to be compatible with the new version, which Firefox will do if the add-on is setup to be updated automatically. Those Norton add-ons for Firefox need to be manually updated by you because Norton can't seem to be able figure out how to do it automatically, like happens with add-ons which are installed from the official Mozilla website. Get angry or frustrated with Norton.

If I upgrade to new iphone, will I lose my unlimited data plan?

If I upgrade my iphone 4 to the iphone 5, will I lose my "grandfathered" status with an unlimited data plan? It requires a new 2 year contract with AT&T, but I have been told by others that they were booted out of the unlimited plan.???

My sister did that, and they told her no... but then she discovered on her first bill it was "unlimited up to 4G" (fine print) - she would have never done that if they were honest about it

When I upgrad to 7.0 will I lose Everything

Not being totally sure of what I'm doing when I upgrade, I have a couple of questions regarding it.
1. I plan to upgrade from current version I have (6.04.2) to version 7 - will I lose all the music currently in my Library and all the Podcasts I also have stored? Is there anything specific I need to do to make sure I don't lose everything during the upgrade.
2. I currently have a Nano but plan to order the 80gb Ipod next week. Does anyone know if I can run 2 different Ipods from the same version of Itunes (hopefully version 7)?

You won't lose anything in your library if you upgrade to iTunes 7. You're at no risk of losing your music, videos, or the like. You'll be able to use two iPods from the same computer without any issues as well.

If I upgrade to Firefox 27 will I lose my Flickr award counter and Trailr settings like I did when I upgraded to 26?

I upgraded to version 26 and found that Trailr and Greasemonkey versions didn't work. I had to find versions that did work and consequently lost all previous menus that look hours to set up. I keep (at least 3 times a day) getting requests to upgrade to version 27 and if I do I feel I will be risking losing all that again and having to re-input it all again.

Greasemonkey 1.15 runs in Firefox 27.0.1. I'm not familiar with the other one.
Extensions you install from the Add-ons site usually are updated automatically, or you can update them manually from the Add-ons page. Either:
* Ctrl+Shift+a
* orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then click the "gear" button and choose Check for Updates.
You shouldn't lose anything.
However, there was a change in Greasemonkey a few updates ago where data storage for scripts was moved out of the main Firefox preferences file (prefs.js) into separate storage compartments. Maybe there was a problem converting the old script data to the new format??

Upgrading to Leopard, what will I lose?

Hey guys,
Wanting to give my macbook pro an upgrade, I just ordered a 320gb internal harddrive along a copy of Leopard. What is the best way to install both without losing software and music?
My biggest worry is that I will lose a lot of my programs. I understand the retail copy of Leopard doesn't come with iLife, so will I be able to reinstall it from my Tiger disc? Also, I have legit copies of Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Premium Suite installed into my computer. However, I managed to lose those CDs... Is there any way to retain those programs without having to repurchase them? This would save me a lot of money....

1. Install your original drive in an external enclosure. See for example the discussion at Apple - Support - Discussions - After using Migration Assistant to set up a new MacBook, can I swap disks? for some suggestions about choosing a suitable enclosure.
2. Install your new drive in your MBP.
3. Attach the old drive in the external enclosure to your MBP with a suitable cable & boot from the Leopard installer disk (insert it into your MBP, hold down the "c" key & start it up). Note: you may also wait to attach the old drive until step 10 below.)
4. After selecting your language but before installing anything, go to the "Utilities" menu & select "Disk Utility." (It will launch, replacing the installer application onscreen.)
5. Select the new drive from the list on the left. (This will usually appear as a model number plus a capacity.) You will see a "Partition" tab appear on the right of the window when you select the drive. Click that tab.
6. Select a "Volume scheme" from the popup with that label. (Select "1 partition" unless you have need for more than one volume on the disk.) Optional (recommended): Name the partition(s) with something more meaningful than "Untitled" so you can identify it/them later on. Important: make sure the "Format" choice for the partition to receive Leopard is "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)."
7. Click the "Options..." button & select "GUID Partition Table." Click "OK." Click the "Apply" button. Wait about a minute for this step to complete. (You will be notified when it is.)
Note: steps 4 through 7 are not mandatory but insure that the drive is properly formatted. Some users also recommend "zeroing the drive" (a security feature available in the "Erase" tab) as part of this process. I believe that is a useless extra step that is a waste of time (it takes several hours to complete) & stresses the drive for no good reason (it is several hours of continuous write operations) but if you wish, do that as well at this time.
7. Quit Disk Utility. You will be returned to the Leopard installer automatically.
8. Select the newly formatted partition as the target for the Leopard installation. Be careful not to select your old drive's partition by mistake. (This is why it is a good idea to give the new one a meaningful name in step 6.)
9. The default install option for this partition will be "Install Mac OS X" (since there is no old OS for an "Upgrade Mac OS X" or "Archive & Install" to use). I recommend using this option instead of Erase & Install -- there is nothing to erase. Click the button to allow the install process to run.
10. After the install process is complete, your Mac will restart automatically. You will see the "Welcome" movie & then Setup Assistant will automatically run. After a few basic questions you will see the “Do You Already Own a Mac?” pane, where you will be asked if want to transfer information from another Mac or from another volume attached to this Mac. Select the 'from another volume' choice & Migration Assistant will run. Your old drive, attached to the MBP by Firewire, should show up as a volume for this choice. Choose it.
11. Migration Assistant gives you a choice of migrating User Accounts, Applications, Network and Computer Settings, & Files and Volumes. To insure that your applications & user accounts(s) are migrated, make sure you chose them at this time. Basically, choose everything except possibly any obsolete or unwanted extra user accounts or Files and Volumes (if you don't want other folders you have created at the top level of the drive migrated over.) Note: Migration Assistant will not transfer older versions of your newly installed Leopard apps (like Mail, iCal, etc.) so you don't have to worry about sorting out duplicates.
12. When the process completes, which can take up to a couple of hours if you have very large numbers of files to migrate, it is a good idea to restart your MBP. This is optional but insures that all the components are initialized when you first use them.
13. Note: For a few applications, it will be necessary to reenter license or registration data (like a serial number or registration code) before you can use them on the new drive. Typically, this is because they are keyed to the drive's ID for anti-piracy reasons. Because of this, it is a good idea to write down this info before starting the replacement process, & to refer to the licensing info for them to see if there is any mention of "unregistering" the app or limiting how many times it may be installed. If you don't have the license or registration data because the documentation for it is lost or misplaced, you can usually get it from an "about this app" window when you run the app. If necessary, you can reboot from the old drive to do this but it is more convenient to do it beforehand.
There are other ways to do what you ask, like making clones & transferring them among drives, but the above method is actually quite straightforward & easy to do. Almost every step is accompanied by onscreen instructions or prompts that guide you through the process. It leverages the programming of Migration Assistant that (for instance) won't install old versions of the apps included with Leopard. Very little can go wrong, but if something does, you still have the old drive to fall back on -- the process does not change it in any way -- so you can try again if necessary.
Edit Note: I started writing this before anyone else responded to the original message & did not see the other replies until after I posted my own. (I took some time to research the exact wording of what would be seen onscreen & so forth.) Hopefully, this explains the duplication of some of the info & makes it clear that none of my comments were aimed specifically at any other user's advice.

Upgrading to new IPOD - will I lose existing music?

Hi, I'm upgrading from 20gb to 80gb ipod. Do I assume I wont lose any of my existing music if I plug in the 80gb?

Ok, so what your saying is you drop it and its not found by your computer, or it just strated out of no where and bestbuy reported that its not coverd by Warr.
I just want to get an idea of whats wrong with it. Or if you know now whats wrong with tell me. What kind of iPod needs repair or do you just your songs recoved. I can try to recover songs or data off of 3rd and 4th gen and maybe 5th.

If I upgrade to snow leopard, will I lose all the applications?

I'm on OS 10.4.11 now and I'm thinking of upgrading to Snow Leopard. Do I have to buy all new iWork and iLife? and re-install all the applications I have?

A. The language of the clause is quite straightforward since it is intended to be understood by ordinary users who must agree to the terms of the EULA prior to installing & using Snow Leopard.
B. The "pre-purchase statement" is not clearly a licensing requirement nor does reading it constitute a legal agreement or obligation of any sort. It is just purchasing information about a "single, affordable package" that elsewhere Apple describes as "the best way to upgrade your Mac experience, especially if you’re still using Mac OS X Tiger."
C. The Snow Leopard EULA is *exactly the same* whether purchased as part of the Box Set product or as part of the OS-only product. Thus, if the EULA is what it clearly says in ordinary language that it is, there are only two possibilities for Tiger users:
1. They can legally use either product.
2. They can legally use neither product.
D. If forum participants should feel uncomfortable about anything, it is suggesting or even hinting to others that it is somehow OK to disregard any part of the EULA without first consulting a lawyer.

If i upgrade to mountain lion, will I lose all my aftermarket software?

I just got an iPad 2 & now I need to upgrade my macbook pro to mountain lion so I can activate iCloud & share media between the two. I'm worried that if I do, I will lose all my aftermarket software on my macbook, most importantly 'office for mac' as I don't have it on disc and need it.
I was going to upgrade via the app store - can I do that without it affecting my other software?

You won't lose anything upgrading Mac OS X. Note that Office 2004 isn't compatible with OS X Mountain Lion because it's a PowerPC application, so if you are using it, you have to upgrade to Office 2008 or 2011 first. Remember to make a Time Machine backup and/or a clone with Carbon Copy Cloner before upgrading

If I make space for the 3.1gb needed to upgrade to iOS 7 will I lose that availible memory or does it just need that much initially for the install?

It says in my update section that I will need to make 3.1gb availible for the update. I already am consistently low on memory for my iphone and if that memory will be gone permanently I would rather not even update. I thought that maybe it requires that space to do an install but it won't actually take all of that once it is finished installing and possibly erasing some memory taken up from the old iOS..

So is there anyway to figure out roughtly how much extra memory will be taken up on my phone post upgrade process?

I was just wondering if the two were now immediately compatible or if there were going to be issues with this again. It was just very difficult to get it taken care of last time and I do not want to go through that again; but would like to be able to always have the most current Firefox available.
