One printer two iMacs

I have two iMacs. One is a G3 with OS 10.2.8 and the other one is a new G5 Inel IMac with OS 10.5.1. Both are hooked to a DLink four port router to get to the internet. I have an older HP PSC 1210v hooked up to the G3 iMac. Printer sharing is turned on.
How do I link this printer so I can print from either computer? The printer will print from either computer as long as it is hooked directly to them. This printer has a USB port only.

The HP printer shows up in the printer list, but when I click the add button it does not show up in the drop down box.
Both computers are hooked to an ethernet router. The old iMac also has a four port usb hub connected to it. I have tried plugging the printer direct to the old mac and also to the hub and the new mac still does not see it.
What if I connect the new mac to the usb hub on the old computer, would the new computer see the old printer.
The driver for the HP 1210 is in the new mac. If I hook the printer directly to the new mac it work fine.

One Printer - two wireless routers, and one Airport Express

Hi all,
I'll do my best to describe this convoluted situation in detail, please feel free to ask questions—I need all the help I can get.
I am in an office with 5 Macs (some with wireless capabilities: my Intel iMac, a Mac mini, an eMac with a wireless card, and a new iMac running OSx 10.5) and one eMac with no wireless capabilities.
We're all connected to an Actiontec router. The one eMac is hard-wired via ethernet to the router and the rest of us receive the signal wirelessly through an 2' thick concrete wall that makes for a slow connection. Our printer, an OKIdata C3200N, is also hard-wired via Ethernet to the router, which allows us wireless Macs to print on a crappy, slow connection.
I got fed up with the slowness and brought in an Airport Express, which is now also hard-wired to the ethernet port and seamlessly and easily connects all the wireless-capable Macs to the internet. It's a joy. However, whenever we wanted to print, we had to switch to the slower Actiontec network b/c the printer was not connected to the Aiport Express.
I figured I could remedy this by plugging a USB printer cable from the printer to the AX and all the wireless Macs would automatically find the printer through Bonjour. It seemed like a good plan; though I was worried that the printer would be confused by having both the Ethernet connection AND the AX connection (this could be the case).
Now, I have been able to be on the AX network, find the printer via Bonjour (with Printer Sharing turned on). However, when I print to it (or any of the other Macs in the office try to print to it) a variety of errors happens:
...the printer jobs are paused and will not resume (this happens on the iMac running OSX 10.5)
...the print queue spools and says "waiting to complete job"
Do I need to configure something through the Airport Admin Utility? Is this a lost cause because the printer is connected two ways to our computers? Is there any hope for printing on the AX connection?

IMac (Intel), eMac G4 One Printer - How do I share?

My parents have two computers, iMac running x.5.1 and the emac running x.4.8. They have one printer and wish to share. I bought a Belkin switch, but not until you open that package does it tell you nothing above x.2.8. So, in layman terms and inexpensive (no airport), how can I get my parents to use one printer and not have one computer having to be on all the time? Please describe in detail,as in wires or hubs, switches, etc... I Thank You for sounding stupid and asking for your kind help!

I can only describe my approach. I have two iMacs connected to the Internet (DSL) via a router. My HP printer also has Ethernet capability. In my case, it is plug and play when everything is connected to the router via Ethernet.
In the old days, I did have a USB printer and I connected it to both iMacs via a manual switch, but I do not recall the brand as I sold it sometime ago.

IMac will not recognize scan function of all in one printer

My 24" iMac will print on the HP Photosmart 3210xi All in One, but will not scan.
Twice, (to ensure I didn't miss anything) I have run the manual un-install procedures prescribed from HP, and installed the appropriate driver for Mac with no success.
When I try to scan, the scanner wants to begin, but the computer displays the message, "Sorry, scanner could not be initialized. (Scanner not found.)" We have the correct driver (Not the Print only option).
This printer still works "full-up" on the clunker PC, so it's not a hardware issue with the printer.
Any others with similar all-in-one issues? Solutions?

I had the same problem with my HP Photosmart 2610xi All In One Printer. I went to the HP website and downloaded the full feature software/drivers and now it works great. Below is the software that you should download for your printer...hope it works for you!

10.6.8 here, MacBook Pro. Comcast. Mail freeze ups. Occasional warnings to use "Log Out" under the Apple icon.

How to print two sides with one page?

I have a PDF that is one page long and I'd like to print the same thing twice (front and back) on one page. Can I do that?
I've tried printing two copies with the printer set to double-sided, but it just printed two sheets with one side on each sheet.

Well sure; Go back to the authoring application that created the documents and do a 2-UP page. Make the existingg page large enough to accomodate the extra content. Is that what you're asking or do you really mean print to a printer with a back up ? In that case just flip the page over and print page 2 on the other side.
Or are we missing something ?

As I understand the as yet unconfirmed rumor by me, is that once you pay for a single copy of Lion, every computer you have that's authorized under your Apple ID can download it, no limit on number.

Search for the app on her iPad- swipe to the right from the first home screen and type in the name of the App at the top in the search field. Does it show up?

That's a kernel panic and indicates some sort of problem either with the computer's hardware or software. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on diagnosing kernel panics. It would help to post the panic log: Mac OS X- How to log a kernel panic.
Meanwhile, try booting the computers into Safe Mode then restarting normally. If this is simply a disk repair or cache file problem then this may fix it.
You can also try creating a new admin account on each computer then booting into the new account. This would help determine if the problem is related to a bad file in the user accounts.

How do I print two DIFFERENT A5 pages onto one A4 piece of paper in Preview?

Hi, I know that within the Preview printing set up you can print two copies of one document on an A4 page.
However, I want to print one copy each instead. I want to put about 8 photographs and documents onto 4 A4 pages all in A5 size to save on paper.
Any help with this would be much appreciated as I know in Windows folders this is really easy to do but it seems impossible on the Mac.

In Print dialog box, you should be able to choose Layout and set pages per sheet to 2 (or 4 ...).
Then the print stream (from whatever source) will pour into the "mini-pages" and fill them up in order.
To do this using Preview, select all the documents you want in order, then open them "all-at-once" with Preview, and they will be temporarily collected into a larger "super-document" for viewing and printing together.
If you are printing photos from iPhoto, it has its own even better controls.

hi joseph,
i'm not sure how related this would be to your concern, but in my place, we've implemented that by sizing a voucher as half a page, so that when we print vouchers, the printer would know that one page is half of a regular page. SPAD is one place to fix, but the actual printing program and SAPScript was also customized so that it would send two vouchers for printing consecutively, and would fit in one page.

I just purchased an HP LaserJet Pro 200 MFP M276nw which replaces an HP Color LaserJet 2605dn.
I've run into an issue printing checkes from Quicken when I print less than a full sheet (one or two) checks.
With my old printer, I used the manual feed for a partial sheet.
Since the new printer does not have a manual feed, I have to put the partial sheet in the paper tray.
It seems one of two things happen:
1) Sometimes the printer will print the partial page but then displays an error message which says something like "Unexpected paper size, load letter."
It then re-prints the partial page on the next sheet of paper.
2) Othertimes, it prints the partial page without the error message, but then feeds the next sheet of paper throught the printer.
In either case the next page contains the next three checks, so it's either wasting checks or printing on the wrong check numbers.
Any suggestions on how to avoid these issues would be appreciated.

I've been using an alternate printer for printing the checks, but I'd rather get rid of the old one. (The HP Laser Pro 200 takes up a lot of space!)

HP Laserjet CP1025nw Color Printer - printer prints two copies when only one is requested.

pcwizard (HP) requested that I try Foxit Reader 5.1 to see if the printer will print properly. I used the same previous document and printed it with Foxit Reader 5.1. The printer printed two copies when only one was requested as it had done in the past. We still have a problem.
I am using Windows 7 (64 bit) for OS. I have experience the issue on two different computers.
