Newbie with one small question

im brand new to cisco, and ive just purchased a catalyst 1900 to start learning on.
im trying to get some switching started, and i cant seem to get things working.
what i did was create an ip address for the switch, which is the same ip address for interface 0/1. interface 0/1 goes to the gateway router and then out to the internet(so that we are clear, switch ip = interface 1 ip). the gateway has a static ip, and i have 5 allocatable statics(sticky ip) after that. so the switch has its own static ip(i made sure to set the ip default-gateway on the cisco switch).
i then set interface 2 ip to a different ip address and then connected that to a linux system with that static ip.
from the linux box, i can successfully ping the switch, the gateway, and anything else with an ip address. but i cant seem to get internet access on this linux box. i can successfully ping, but when i fire up the browser, i get nothing.
any ideas. i really appreciate it. i know theres something that im missing. ive got my book in front of me and ive followed all of the steps, but this stuff is all written for simulations, so its a little different.

i have 5 other ip's, 233 - 237
i have the cable going from the gateway switch into the first port on the switch. theres another ethernet cable going from port 2 to the linux box.
into the switch:
ip address xxx.xxx.xxx.236 255.255.255.248
ip default-gateway xxx.xxx.xxx.238
interface ethernet 0/1
ip address xxx.xxx.xxx.236
exit
interface ethernet 0/1
ip address xxx.xxx.xxx.237
then into the linux box,
ifconfig eth0 xxx.xxx.xxx.237 netmask 255.255.255.248 broadcast xxx.xxx.xxx.255
from the linux box, i can successfully ping the switch and another computer that has been assigned a static ip that is connected into the gateway switch, not the cisco switch. i can successfully ping the linux box from that computer, so i can successfully send a ping from a windows computer to the gateway switch, to the cisco switch, and then to the linux box.
i cannot ping anything beyond the gateway switch.
any help would be great. i know this has to be a simple problem, sorry.

ATV worked great one small glitch Question

ATV update is great, however got one small glitch ?
I have ripped a couple of movies prior to the update and they worked fine they still seem to work, however on the movie list one movie appears like 20-30 times. All of the other movies dont have a problem. Anyone know how I can eliminate the movie being repeated??? Thanks

Move the photos from the Trash bin in iPhoto onto the Library icon to get them back in their proper events. Then check the thumbnails to see if they are still behaving the same. If they are make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Command+D) and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #1, followed by #3 and then #4 as needed.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

There are non-standard libraries out in the great aether that will allow this, but I believe that most of us mere mortals will use a GUI such as Swing when we want this type of functionality.
2. How can I write a Java code to print in a printer?Have you looked on Google or the Sun tutorials? It would be best if you start there and then come back here if you have any specific questions about something that's not working.

This is pretty great, I've been waiting for this merger for awhile (like I'm sure a lot of us have been) but I do have some small questions (that probably wont be able to get answered):
• On the 9th, I'm assuming people will be camping out and what have you. But would EVERY Verizon and Apple store carry the Verizon iPhone on the 10th? I'm assuming no...
• With the NE2 special ending, even long time customers will no longer be able to use this service, right? Furthermore, does that mean there will be no more annual upgrades, and that everyone must pall full retail (usually $300-$500) for a new phone?

Existing Customers will have their NE2 option grandfathered for one more use, then after use at upgrade time it's forever gone. Annual upgrades required a minimum service level, so not everyone qualified (I never did, my plans were too cheap to qualify) and upgrades will come at 10 months (1 year contract) or 20 months (2 year contract), same as they are for me now.

Why does disc show as filled with only one small file added?

I'm also new to Apple. I've a MacBook Pro - Snow Leopard 10.6.8. I've checked the documentation and help information and followed the instructios. The blank CD-R shows as (CD-R; BLANK - Yes; ERASEABLE - Yes; OVERWRITABLE - Yes; APPENDABLE- yes). I wrote one small file to the CD using the Burn Folder. The file was on the CD, but all available space was used with zero remaining. The disc is not erasable. One response to an earlier question to look for multisesson recorder and select leave disc appendable or look for a triangle in top right. Could not find this. I'm sure this is another area where I'm just looking in the wrong place for instruction. Any help is appreciated.

Note, you will likely have to start with a new blank CD. Once burnt without appendability selected, it often can't be appended in the future.

First of all I have to say I'm a mac freak and i will never ever switch back to windows, but in some rare cases there is a lack of software, for example special software, like engineering software cad or fem software.
In this cases, I need windows to continue working.
Three weeks ago I sucessfully installed windows xp sp2 on my new mac mini intel single core, and the only thing I wanted to know was, could it be done -
Yes , but it was nothing for standard user i would say.Main problem was that windows must be installed on the first partition, which slowed down os x on the second, not all drivers were available and bootmangement was not like i had expected - I deletet xp and restored my os x.Keeping in mind that xp could run on my mm -
Today I installed win xp sp2 using bootcamp beta and i have to say that it was amazing, like landing on the moon.
Bootcamp solves the main lack of the installation, which i was confronted 2 weeks before - partitioning on the fly out of os x !!! and it uses the 2. partition for xp , which results that os x is running on the fast first partition.
These are the steps for the mac mini moonlanding:
1x xp sp2 cd, 1x cdr
1.) I did the firmware update
2.) Started bootcamp and bruned driver cd (83MB)
3.) Restarted into osx & started bootcamp again, clicked install xp again
4.) booted into xp and installed +restarted to xp
5.) installed all drivers from bruned cdr (auto)
6.) yeah all drivers are avaiable , even analog sound
7.) Restarted holding down option-key (alt-key)
8.) restarted to os x
10.) opened sys-pref in osx and marked osx as default startvolume
11.) continued living with two os'es on my mac mini!

Well, Microsoft does write Windows, you can't get rid of Microsoft all together and keep using Windows! If anything, this is a win against Dell or other vendors who sell hardware for Windows. It could be a boon for Microsoft to sell more copies of Windows, if anything.

Sorry. We can't help you. It's no longer an iPhone. Apple won't touch it.
Take it to whoever replaced the screen and see if they can help you.
iPhones are not user servicable and Apple does not sell iPhone parts at all. I'd be surprised if you were actually able to back it up at this point. It sounds like it's completely borked.

One last question about Apple IDs

I thought id asked the lot but there is one last question. How does one delete an Apple ID?

You can't.
After you quit using an account, it's posts, will be archived. What that means is, that if there are no additional responses in the Threads they reside in, the Topics will get continually pushed down on the Topics list. After a certain amount of time, maybe 2 to 6 months, the Threads will be locked, so no responses can be entered. But the Threads will not disappear.
Threads in heavily trafficked Forums, may be archived more rapidly than those in areas, with less activity.
The Topics that you started using the account, will show your the Alias, in the Author field of a main forum page, but eventually, readers will have to keep going to the succeeding pages to view them.
If someone were to do a Discussions Search, using these parameters:
Restrict by Category or Forum: All Categories
Restrict by Date Range: All
Restrict by Username: Your Old Alias
all of your posts, created since about 11/13/05, would be found.

One Small Feature Request

Well, I got the Add-In installed and working. Looks pretty good. One small feature request I have, that I have become accustom to doing from another tool that I use is that when editing a package, in the Oracle Explorer window, when you expand the Packages node, then expand the package you are working on, it shows a list of procedures and functions in that package. This is great. Now what would be really great is that if you could double click on one of these procedures or functions it would take you to that place in the code of the package body.
So for example, let's say I have a package called Pkg_DoStuff. Pkg_DoStuff has three procedures, Foo1, Foo2, and Foo3. When I expand Pkg_DoStuff in the Oracle Explorer windows, I see nodes for Foo1, Foo2, and Foo3. Now, if I double click on Foo3, I would like the code window to place the cursor at the start of the Foo3 procedure in the package body.

Another feature request:
Please add a Raptor feature to the Data Connections and allow users to apply filters to tree browsing. We use Oracle Apps 11i, and there must be about 50 thousand tables, views and packages that can potentially be visible. It usually takes several minutes for the Data Connections tree to respond when I bring up a list of tables even for a login with limited access. However, with the filter applied in raptor, I can browse very quickly to tables, views and packages that I need.

1 - i have removed my Sound Blaster Audigy and i am now able to reach 2.5GHz easily, when the audigy was installed, i could never get over 2.4Ghz, why?
2 - i have increased my vcore to 1.7 yet am experience lower idle temps with c'n'q enabled eg...2.4GHz @ 1.55v would idle at 29c.....2.5GHz @ 1.7vcore idles at 23c, how?
3 - moving my ballistix ram into dimm slot 3 i am now able to go 1:1 to 228 htt at timings 2.5,2,2,10 easily...when the ram was in dimm slot 1 i couldnt go 1:1 over 200 htt, why?

NetStream.send() should usually be faster than NetGroup.post(), especially when using 1:1 NetStreams (vs Group NetStreams).
when groups are large, there's no passive way to tell when members join or leave. however, for small groups (less than about 15 members), they will be "fully meshed", meaning every member has a direct connection to every other member. when that's the case, you can see the NetGroup.Neighbor.Connect/Disconnect events on a NetGroup. to receive those, you must create a NetGroup with the same groupspec as your NetStream and listen for NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS events.
your function "msg" must be a method on the subscribing NetStream's "client" object to receive NetStream.send()s from the publisher.
this is all generic ActionScript stuff. i don't know how to use Flash CS5 but this stuff should all be the same in Flash and Flash Builder.
