Only a Gig of space left can't find FCP files that are taking up 45GB
My friend has FCP on a laptop, he shot a wedding, cut it in FCP on his PowerBook, he thought he removed the work files but his computer is down to 1GB of space left and he can't figure out what is taking up all the space.
Any thoughts what he should be looking for to clean it up? Thanks for the help.
It sounds like the footage is still on the computer, especially if you know the files are using up 45 gigs. I would try opening the project file (if you still have it). If anything isn't offline, right-click it and open the Item Properties. From the window that pops up you can find out where the item is being stored.
The best thing to do for a project is to set your scratch disk to a specific folder. Then, when you are done with a project, you can simply delete the folder and everything in it.
So check where the scratch disk was set to and delete any related items, and if you still have the project file see what's online and figure out where it's being saved.

You want one backup (ie Time machine) and one (or more) data archive of just all your raw files (drag and drop, or cloned etc.) -

Did you scan the file directly into Acrobat, but didn't save it? If so, the file is most certainly lost, and would need to be rescanned.

I by accident deleted an important Note that had all my passwords on my Notes Ap on my Iphone 5. I can not find a file that has deleted Notes files so I can recover it. Any idea how I can get it back? Thanks,Mike
Do you have a backup of your iPhone? If so, do a restore and whatever Notes were backed up should reappear.
You will lose any changes made since that backup though. -

Can I convert my files that are F00...F49 to look like the rest of my file (had a computer crash,,,use ipod to get my music back in itunes)
Some file are song titles/albums ect others are F00..F49
they appear this way in my backup filesF00..F49 are the names of the folders of media content on the iPod. Inside will be a bunch of files with four letter names. As long as they're not .wav files it should be possible to recover them and reconstruct the core of the library from the embedded tags.

I'm having this problem with my XSAN where users are digitzing in 10 uncompressed footage with files that will take up over half the remaining storage space. I'm talking one quicktime that will be anywhere between 3-5TB's. It is an intermittent problem. I have updated my the clients to XSAN 1.1, with the latest Xserve Raid drivers as well. We're running FCP 4.5 on 10.3.9 systems, and the XSAN is running on 10.3.9 as well with all current updates. Anybody else running into this?
Hi there Billy. I had the same problem. And I to am using the Kona cards and versions of the OS and FCP. It does seem to be some bug in FCP that is causing this problem. The way we get around is to first avoid using the "capture now" command. But when we have to we just monitor the available space and if it all of a sudden disappears then we can go back and delete that FCP file from the XSAN. It is usually only a 8k file in the finder. But when you delete it you will get all your space back.
The command line version is to
ran this command:
server name:/volumes/xsan admin$ du -hc
found this file: 912G ./FCP /Capture Scratch/Untitled Project 1 (showed as 8k in finder)
ran this command to remove it: server name:/volumes/xsan/FCP /Capture Scratch admin$ sudo rm -R Untitled\ Project\ 1/
in this case the file was named Untitled Project 1.

I have a 500GB server, in which less than 200 MB is available. Yet when I Get Info on the folders, the combined used of them is under 100GB. Where is the other 400GB???

Closed project tab and now can not find fcp file - is it gone really?
I was working on a fifteen minute documentary. Completed it, created a DVD and noticed a mistake as I was reviewing the dvd. Since I (Thought) I was done working on the project - I closed the tab and opened up a new project to begin working... Now I am trying to open up my documentary fcp file, and i can't find it anywhere... The only copy that is located when I try spotlight - is a version of it that I was working on 5 days ago, before most of the changes were made...
Any ideas?when you closed the tab you wil have been presented with a dialog telling you the project had been modified and asking you if you wanted to save the changes (Cancel, Save As, No and Yes) ... if you inadvertently pressed "No" then you you closed it without saving those changes.
assuming you are not so crazy as to edit without using the Autosave feature, take a look in your autosave directory, find you project folder and look for th emost recent save of that project ... even tho you didnt save at the end you should have at least a couple of autosave vesrions there -

Photos are not saved in your iTunes library. You can use iTunes to sync photos from your computer to your phone, but they are stored on your hard drive. Camera roll photos are contained in your iPhone backup, but not in as way that allows you to view them; they are only backed up so your phone can be restored later, if necessary. You should import your photos to your computer as you would with any digital camera, as outlined here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.

How can I extract .rar files that are dependent on the next in order to finish the extraction?
Ex: Part 1 finishes, then asks for part 2, so on so forth!
Trying to open something a colleague sent me, but is rather large. I have 5 .rar files. I cannot extract them seperatly or it errors/fails. Yet I cannot find a program that asks or searches for the next files in the extraction process. Tips? Programs that do? I know that WinRAR has what I need but they do not make a program for Mac, that I can get to work.
P.s. please keep in mind i'm new to macs, my first one! and i really know nothing mac-specific, howver i know a fair bit about computers.It gave me the error when I ran the program, if I need to post a screenie I will. Also if unRarx does work, am I using it wrong? I've got all 5 .rar files together in one folder. Start unrarx, click browse, navigate to the first rar, click extract, then this error at the end:

Where can i find my files that i transferred from my old computer
I recently purchased a new mac book pro, and using the migration assistant to transfer over my whole itunes library because i have a lot of songs and dont want to have to add them manually all over again. I transfered the music files and the migration assistant said that every thing was complete, but when i went to look for the file, i could not find it. Where would the file be??
Have you tried spotlight? Have you looked in you home folder? Can you find your 'Music Folder'?

AddressBook - why does Boolean search NOT work ?
Actually I was very surprised to find out from a customer's problem that boolean search really doesn't work correctly with Apple's AddressBook App. ! Unbelievable but true - try it yourself. You can type letters just like "abc" to find everything whi
