Onunload function

Hi,
I am having an issue with onunload function.
Currently I have a page contains textfield, checkbox and select box. If there is a field value changes, when user leaves the page, there should be a warning message like "Do you want to save the change?" with ok and cancel button.
On the page, In each field, I added
onchange="setflag();"
In HTML body, I added
onunload = "validatepageexit();"
In HTML head, there is a function
function setflag()
$x('P0_PAGE_MODIFIED').value = 'Y';
function validatepageexit()
if (document.wwv_flow.P0_PAGE_MODIFIED.value == 'Y')
if (confirm('Do you want to save the changes?'))
doSubmit();
return true;
else
return false;
else
return false;
Now if I click other tabs without saving the changes, the popup message appears and it works properly. However, when I try to navigate other pages by changing URL, the message doesn't show up.
By the way, it seems working only on select box.
Any idea?

Hi,
The javascript onchange="setflag();" should work on all your items... make sure you put the code at the right place.
The onunload event should only be triggered when the page do a "unload" action(goto another page), changing the url in the browser can't trigger the page unload action because it's not the same context...
think about page action/event and browser action/event... it's not the same thing!
if you do refresh on the browser, the onunload event won't be triggered

  • HTML5 Widgets - does the onUnload function ever fire?

    The documentation for HTML5 widgets (Captivate 6 help) says that we can unload the widget via this function that is called by Captivate:
    //To unload your widget onUnload:
    onUnload: function()
         /*Unload your widget here*/
    I was having problems with the widget and some of these led me to wonder if this function was being called. I have tried on both Ipad and browser setting a breakpoint here and the code I have written never seems to be called.
    I have also put in code to write to the console and it isn't happening.
    Does anyone know if I'm doing something wrong - do I need to attach an event handler to the captivate object - I had assumed it would just be called in the same way as onLoad.  If not, does anyone know how else I might intercept the unloading of the widget (give the documentation warns against trying to do it by attaching to native onunload events)?  This is becoming an urgent problem for me so I would be hugely grateful for any advice.

    I tried attaching to native onunload events and had some problems making it work.  It may have been my implementation, but I couldn't attach to onunload and have my widget still in existence to handle it.  In case it is useful for others what I ended up using, and it seems to do the trick, is attach to Captivate's Slide Exit Event - which worked for my case but maybe not for all:
    this .eventDisp = this.movieProps.eventDispatcher;
    this .eventDisp.addEventListener(this.eventDisp.SLIDE_EXIT_EVENT, this.onExitSlide, this);

  • Create onunload function

    Is this possible to create a script in javascript or java with similar function as "onunload" in javascript? Because I an havving a problem using onunload on lower version of netscape and palm. I'm using NS7.0 this doesn't work. please help

    Not really.
    You can use the HTML body onunload handler, but I'm not sure there's any guarantee it completes if the window is closed, particularly if it's the last open window.
    You could try putting an applet in the page which just does something on stop, but things could terminate before finished just like above.
    But that's about all. What are you trying to do, exactly?
    Lower versions of Netscape, 4.7 or lower, should be forcefully removed from every disk drive in the world.

  • JavaScript onunload problems in Mavericks

    I use an HTML/JavaScript launcher whenever I open a new window in Safari:
    http://iuseacomputer.tumblr.com/post/22426730817/update-safari-launcher
    The idea is that it starts as a small, minimalistic window, and when I type in a URL or do search, it automatically expands the window to a good size. I've been using this every day for more than a year and it's really handy, but since today when I installed Mavericks the JavaScript onunload function doesn't work when I type a URL and press enter. So, it loads the next page, but it doesn't resize the window to full-size anymore. Any ideas? It is definitely related to my Mavericks update, but is there a better forum I could ask this?

    I saved the html & opened it locally - the small window changed to a larger one after clicking Go : this on Mavericks & Safari 7. Same thing happened when it was set as the homepage. Obviously not for you, so try a new or Guest user account.

  • Why is my flash content not working on my dreamweaver created html site?

    This is a problem that's happening on my website I'm creating.  I created a quick test website to show you the problem on the fourm.  It's the same problem, and if you can provide the solution to this test website I can apply it to my main website.
    Test website on server:
    test331754952.net23.net
    What I did:
    -launched flash
    -typed "test" and made it spin 360 degrees
    -published swf
    -launched dreamweaver
    -created a site
    -moved swf to site folder
    -saved a html file to the site folder
    -in dreamweaver, went to insert, media, swf, then selected the swf I made
    -it inserted the swf, creating a gray placeholder for it
    -re-saved the html document, at which point dreamweaver created a folder named script and 2 files, an swf, and a javascript file
    Site Directory:
    Scripts Sub-Directory:
    What happens:
    -when I launch the swf on my machine, it plays fine
    -when I open the swf directly on the test website on the server, it plays fine
    -when I open the html with the embended swf on the test website on the server, it shows a gray box, then goes white
    -In dreamweaver, when I go to preview in browser and choose internet explorer, it tells me I don't have new flashplayer(I do: flashplayer 11)
    Ie also pokes up a box at the bottom that says its not allowing content.  When I click allow content, it creates a gray box
    -In dreamweaver, when I go to preview in borwser and choose google chrome, it tells me flash player has stopped a potentionally unsafe operation.  When I close this dialog box, it gives me a gray box where my swf should be embeded.
    -I've tried changing global flash secuirty setting and it does nothing
    -I've tried visiting the test website on multiple computers in my household to no avail
    -I've tried having friends visit the site on their computer at their house to no avail
    -I did't touch the code on this test website-the code is exactly what dreamweaver generated

    Can someone please help!  I've looked and tried prety much everything.  If you can provide a solution I would GREATLY apreciate it!

    There is no Flash player version 15... as in your code:
    <param name="swfversion" value="15.0.0.0" />
    For some reason Adobe thought it would be a good idea to target a Flash player version (15) as default.....which may be out a couple years in the future. Go figure!!!
    If you don't like player version 9, change to 10 or 11.... just not 15 (yet).

  • Using cookies and JavaScript to create a page to page timer.

    I have long wanted to be able to measure the time it takes to get from one page to another.  While reading in my JavaScript reference the other day, I came across cookies.  I've long known about cookies but have never used them.  The thing that looked attractive was that you can access cookies from both JavaScript and CF.
    So I put together the procedures to store the "start time" (startTimeP8D) for the transition and activated it on the onUnload event of a 1stpage.  After a few rewrites I got it working.   Here is the JavaScript to do that: it consists of two functions: doTimer which is the input section and setCookie, which writes to the cookie.  Not the two numbered alert statements.
    doTimer - results for "start" from the doTimer function called from page 1 when it unloads. (See doTimer below)
         Please note that the two startTime8D values are the same immediately after they are stored.
    On the 2nd page in the sequence, I run the corresponding code to determine the "end time", compute the delta and write it out to the page.  It didn't all run on the first try, but it now seems to be running without a crash, which can be misleading.
          second set of outputs from page 2:
         Please not that while the endTimeP8D match, the startTimeP8D value no longer matches the previously stored value.
    There is one major hitch in the get along which has me stymied:  As you can see, when you compare the startTimeP8 in the setCookie – results above and the "startTimeP8" in the doTimer results below the startTimeP8 is not the value that I wrote to the cookie @ unload of page 1.  I have checked and checked and do now see anywhere that the startTimeP8D value is being overwritten.  Based upon my limited experience with JavaScript cookies, it seems to me that you get an entry for each time you set the cookie.  So I would expect to see to startTimeP8D entry for each setCookie event, not a different value.
         The result of the failed computation is shown on the bottom of the page.  As you can see, the Total Elapsed Time is negative, which is never a good sign.  The other time shown, Page build time, is the run time from the server.  The whole purpose is to be able to show folks that the reason the code might be show is because of their overloaded network and not our code.  We had one client whose had users running on 56k modems.  It was so slow their VPN software was timing out!!!  Still the had the never to blame us!!!
    I am using SQLServer 2005, CF8, IE8 on W7.
    I'm not married to this way of doing this so if anyone has a better/easier way of doing a "page to page timer", I'm up for it.  I'd prefer to fix this one since I've been working on it for the past 3 days.
    Thanks in advcance for your help.

    Note that overwriting global window events like this is not a good idea, which is why I used JQuery in my earlier example. I strongly suggest you look at JQuery or one of the other JS libraries (YUI, etc.) to help with event handling. I'll leave it at that as this is getting into JavaScript development, not really on topic for a ColdFusion forum.

  • A javaScript code that runs fine in IE but not in other plz help

    Hello friends,
    plese help me in getting the code for Opera and Mozilla browsers. The following code runs fine in IE but not in other browsers. it show titlebar in other browsers. What to do disable titlebar in other browsers? plz help

  • How to restrict a user to login twice

    hei evryone!
    Here's my prob... I need to restrict a user to login more than once meaning, if a certain user account is currently login , that account cannot be used concurrently using another window or machine... If another user attempts to login, using that same account an error message will be displayed saying "this user account is already logged in".. i tried to do this in javascript but the code that i've got only works for IE and its kinda hard to capture the event for closing window.. plus using onunload is not advisable with my situation since my webpage can be redirected to other codes meaning the cause of unloading the page could either be closing the browser or redirecting the window to another page such as window.location="anothercode.jsp";... I was wondering if there's a way to do this in jsp...
    Any suggestions, ideas, or sample codes would be deeply appreciated. Thanks in advance!
    btw, i need to generate a code that is cross browser.. What i really need to accomplish is to be able to determine when the browser is closed either by clicking the X button on the window, alt f4 or my own close button and not when the page is unloaded.
    Here's a sample code : This only works in IE =(
    ---------- default.jsp-------------------------
    <html>
    <head>
    <script language="Javascript">
         onunload=function(e) {
         winX = navigator.appName=="Microsoft Internet Explorer" ? window.event.clientX : e.screenX;
         winY =navigator.appName=="Microsoft Internet Explorer" ? window.event.clientY :e.screenY;
    if (winX<0 && winY<0)
              // redirect to logout.jsp n do some stuff
    </script>
    </head>
    <body>
    Logout
    List
    View Schedules
    </body>
    </html>
    the default screen would be the code above: "default.jsp" wherein there are many ways that the page
    can be unloaded such as :
    - clicking the logout link
    - click the View Schedules
    - click the x button the left side of the window
    - alt f4
    - if the window is minimized , right click then select close option
    Now, what i needed to do is to determined when the browser is closed so i reset the login flag of the account and can be used later on.

    hei everyone!
    im tryin to resolve this prob by adding a session id field on the users table. Everytime a user logs in i will update the session id field so that if anyone attempts to use the same account i will redirect the later into the login page with a warning msg. I'll do this by comparing the session id that u got from the dbase and the session id from request.getSessionId() of the browser. However, my prolem now is how to cleanup my database.. i need the cleanup coz i have a user tracking screen wherein i cud show who's account are login n who's not. I have created an applet and embed it in all of jsp files so that i cud catch the event for closing window whether by using the x button of the window or a power intrerruption. However, i need to find a way where i cud determine whether the event was really a close window or just a redirection from another page. I mean , you could leave the page either by viewing another screen or by actually closing the window.. For instance, my main page has main menu which are (1) View Users and (2) View Schedule .By default, im in the "View Users" screen . These two menus have their corresponding jsp n both jsp files have an embeded applet. So if the user click the "View Schedules " screen or if the user chooses to click the logout button or window's x button to exit the browser, then the applet will call the stop method. This what i meant by how will i determine if the user really exits on my application or not.. Coz if the user clicks from one screen to another then, user actually does not leave my application the user only exit on my application if the user logs out or close the window..
    Please help me out on this matter... Thanks in advance!

  • Popup when closing the portal application by close browser button

    We are using the portal with BSP's and in some cases we have more browser windows open. The user get confused and want to close all windows except for the main one. Put in many occasions he closes the main browser window to and then he has to logon to the postal again and go again to the page he want to be returned.
    What we like is to have the functionality available that if the user closes the main-window he soul get a pop-up window if he really wants to close the application.
    (you can not solve this problem by building an 'onunload' in the body-tag of the index.htm, this will lead to a pop-up any time the page changes)

    Why dont you put the onUnload() function in the header of the portal?
    Would that work?

  • How can I invalide the session automatically while user close IE browser

    I have tried to add onUnload function to javascript, but it seems it doesn't call when user close the browser. Anyone could offer me suggestions?

  • Work Protect Mode

    Hi All,
    I have a requirement to display the work protect mode pop up when the user clicked on the log off link or user directly closes the window.
    Do any of you can confirms if this can be achieved by any means.
    Thanks in advance.
    Best Regards,
    Sash.

    Hi Sash,
    It can be achieved, but it will require some custom development.
    What you need to do is trigger the popup from the logoff link (before the logoff popup I guess) and from the body onunload event.
    The logoff link is inside the masthead, you can add a script there and call it before the logoff script is called.
    Body onunload is a little bit trickier, because you don't have access to the body tag... But what should work is add a script that changes the body onunload function. You could place this script also in the masthead.
              function addUnloadEvent(func) {
                var oldonunload = window.onunload;
                if (typeof window.onunload != 'function') {
                  window.onunload = func;
                } else {
                  window.onunload = function() {
                    if (oldonunload) {
                      oldonunload();
                    func();
    The function you need to create would be something like this:
              function workprotectPopup() {
                   if (EPCM.getDirty()) {
                        EPCM.popupOnUnsavedData();
    You can then add it to the onunload by using:
              addUnloadEvent(workprotectPopup);

    I need help with a NetStream/IE specific issue (possibly bug
    in IE or IE FlashPlayer 9).
    Problem Background:
    - I made flash flv player for client to play multiple FLV
    pseudo-streams (php-streamed) and keep them synchronized
    - I have 2 NetStream objects for two separate streams
    - Each stream can be changed via a list component to a
    different FLV while it's playing - it pauses, starts loading the
    new stream, then keeps playing the 2 streams, in sync
    - The "player" resides on one domain, and the videos on another
    (simply due to more storage space available on the other domain)
    The "Blockage" Problem:
    - Works great in FF on OS X 10.4, Win2K, WinXP and WinVISTA
    - Works the first time in Win2K IE (Internet Explorer) 6, and
    WinXP IE7 - but when you close the tab or window, without closing
    the browser entirely (have another tab or window open - such as the
    one with the link to the flv player), then try opening the same URL
    again, or a similar one, IE browser will not load the FLV file
    "stream" anymore - again it works fine the first time around. This
    problem is so severe that the entire domain that the video was
    being loaded from in the first place can no longer be visited by
    the browser; i.e. if the domain the video was being loaded from was
    http://domain.com" - IE can no longer
    visit it (any page on it anywhere...) but it can visit "
    http://www.domain.com". To clear
    up the browser "blockage," I have to close the browser completely,
    then re-launch it.
    What I've Tried:
    - In places where I'd call "netStrmObj.close()" - I tried
    adding "myVideo.attachVideo(null);myVideo.attachAudio(null);" -
    this just makes the player really freak out for a while before
    changing to a new video, which still happens, but the doesn't do
    anything for the problem
    - I tried not using "netStrmObj.close()" at all... no
    noticeable difference
    - I added "_root.onUnload = function()
    {myVideo.attachVideo(null);myVideo.attachAudio(null);}" instead.
    This definitely made a difference. On Win2K the player worked on
    repeated calls for a while, but the response was terribly slow -
    take almost a minute to respond at times (where normal response
    time would be 2-3sec), then the same problem would occur. Sometimes
    the same problem would occur right away, like it did at first. On
    WinXP it worked like a charm, even on repeated calls (closing
    tabs/windows in between each call); then I interrupted my testing,
    which had been going so nicely, and had a short dinner for about
    15-20 minutes, then resumed testing - the browser "blockage" had
    returned (I don't know if the delay was just fluke or not - but the
    problem is obviously still there...)
    Is there any *NetStream*/Flash/IE wizard out there who has any
    ideas about this? I will be gone for a few days before I can
    check this posting - but I need results by Wed/Thurs next week, so
    any help before then would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks for your time!

    Right, ok. Are many using this at the moment?
    The progressive HTML5-ers are using shiv files or some description.
    Is it completely without any issues if we move from html 4 to 5 now then?
    I'm sure shiv files have their limitations but most reports/blog I see online are reporting good results (or they're not howling loudly about bad results).
    Only one issue for me then DWCS4. Don't think its worth the upgrade to DW5.5 at the moment needed to be able to see html 5 in design view. Probably wait for DW6 and get up to speed with html5 in the meantime as I don't fully know the new tags yet

  • Auto Logoff when change url without logoff

    Hi, i had search the forum, but i don't find an answer!
    I have the following problem:
    We have the EP 6.0 and when the users are login, sometimes they change the url of the browser to go to www.google.de or other sides, but they forget to logoff! Then the session is not closed and some other people could go back in the history and then they are logged in!
    I search a possibility to auto logoff when change the side for example to call a javascript with the attribut onunload or something else!?
    I would be lucky with some ideas or a solution!
    Lars

    Hi Lars,
    This is not exactly what you are asking for, but it is closely related.  I hope that it may be of some help to you.  For my application, I wanted to logoff portal sessions, when users do not logoff BEFORE closing the browser session.
    Here is what we do:
    In the desktop framework, I have a footer.  The footer shows privacy information, etc.  Inside the html for this footer page, I capture a browser close event, and in this event, I logoff the portal session.  This footer is displayed on every page of the portal and effectively helps to conserve portal resources.
    Here is the javascript included in the footer.html
    <script type="text/javascript">
    window.onunload = function unloadEvent() {
         //alert ("Got here...");
         if (window.screenLeft == 10004) {
              // User clicked "X" to close Browser
              // alert ("To protect your privacy, please Logoff prior to closing your browser window.  Logging off now...");
              logoff();
    </script>
    Hope this helps,
    Kevin

  • Catching the browser close event...

    Hello Fellow Portal-Heads,
    There's a nagging issue that I've been pondering (RE EP6 NW04).  In the MSS iViews there is the potential issue of a user viewing an employee and then closing the browser via the 'X' (vs. clicking the logoff link).  This 'X-ing' out of the browser leaves the viewed employee locked which is to be expected.  So... anyone have a good way to catch the 'X-ing' out of the browser and then trigger some code to perform a proper logoff?  I've tried inserting code in the masthead which catches a browser unonload() event... but it was not the smoothest operator.
    Cheers,
    Mike

    Hi Mike,
    I have got a chance to work in a similar issue.The following code traps the 'X' of the browser and logoff the user.
    <script type="text/javascript">
    window.onunload = function unloadEvent()
         if (gIsPreviewMode)
              return;
         else
              if(window.screenLeft < 10004)
                     //this is refresh
              else
                     logoff();
    </script>
    Preview is taken care and the code is working fine. I am posting code so that somebody else can use it,
    Regards

  • Urgent Req: Closing the sessions in EP?

    Hi All,
    If i'm accessing the SAP Transactions throurgh Iviews in EP,if the user closes the EP directly instead of loging Off, the SAP transactions iviews remains stateful.
    I want to know is there any posibility of killing that session or restricting the session.
    Help appreciated.
    Thx
    PRadeep

    One way to force a logoff when the browser is closed would be to import the Masthead iView into Eclipse and add the following Javascript code :
    var closing;
    window.onload = function() {
         closing=true;
    window.onunload = function() {
         if(closing) {
              EPCM.raiseEvent("urn:com.sapportals.portal:user", "logoff", "");
    With this the DSM terminator is called whenever the user leaves the portal for another website or closes the window.
