Open external browser in SAME window

Hi all. I've seen several posts on a related issue here about how one could open up an external web browser to display content in the browser window. I tested the solution which uses a call to Runtime.getRuntime().exec(...) to execute a new Process and it works wonderfully. However, in my case, I would like to be able to reuse the same browser window if one is already open. In other words, I would like my application to only allow a single instance of the external browser to be open at any given time, and, if an instance exists, display the (potentially different) content in the existing browser window. Thanks for the help.

write some JNI code that communicates with the browser, if the browser is actually known to you and provides the appropriate API.

Open Web Dynpro in same window

Hello Everyone!
We've got a really really big problem.
We use in our KM a Web Dynpro. In the Image Map we want to call this Web Dynpro and open it in the same window. But at the moment we are just able to open the Dynpro in another window.
Is there a possibility to open it in the same window?
Hope that anyone of you, has a solution for our problem.

NavMode parameter determine, whether the application should open in new window or same window.
mode 0 for internal window,
mode 1 for external window with content,
mode 2 for external window with full navigation,
mode 3 for external headerless window

Opening .pdfs in the same window/tab.

I look at a lot of .pdfs (Journal Articles) in my browse. Generally, I only download a fraction of the ones I look at. Recently, Firefox has stopped opening .pdfs in the same window/tab. Instead, it prompts me to download every .pdf I want to look at. I then have to save them, open them on my desktop, look at them, and then delete the ones I do not want to keep. Does anyone know how to get Firefox 10.0.2 to start opening .pdfs in the same window/tab again?

Opening URL in the same window

Hello,
I have a webdynpro Java Application which is opened on the click of the iview which is created for it.....now i want to specify a URL for it which should open it in the same window.....rather than an external window.....how can i achieve the same...? how can i specify the URL in the Default Plug (event handler) of the Interface View Controller.....so that it opens up...
Any help would be highly appreciated...

I remember a few versions ago I could hit f12 and it would open my page in the same window - instead of creating a new window every time.
Now, I'll have 20 open browser windows in a matter of minutes.
Is there any way to get that feature working again?

I got in the habit of F12 from DW many many years ago. Back in the good ole days you could go straight from DW to the browser window without creating a new page. After a few hundred thousand times, it's hard to break the habit - especially when it requires an extra step.
It seems like every program I use requires more keystrokes (or clicks) to accomplish the same tasks than it did 15 years ago. Since DW CC took away all my Coldfusion stuff, I guess its time to start looking for other options.

Open file/browse-file dialog window size too small

It seems like the size of the "Open file" and "Browse file"-dialog windows have become too small to use efficiently.
I'm not sure if this is related to the latest updates from testing, but it wasn't like this before. I have to resize the dialog window every time in order to be able to select files and folders.
The changes are not saved across the same session of a program, but it does result in unpredictable behavior in gedit.
If I resize the open file dialog, then close the dialog, then open it again, the changes are sometimes preserved, but not always. Sometimes it's small and sometimes it's resized, and there's no way of telling.
I'm running compiz-fusion and emerald, but the bug is not related to window manager, as it's the same with metacity and openbox. So it's for all GTK programs.
When I try to run gnome-appearance-properties, I get:
"Unable to start the settings manager 'gnome-settings-daemon'.
Without the GNOME settings manager running, some preferences may not take effect. This could indicate a problem with Bonobo, or a non-GNOME (e.g. KDE) settings manager may already be active and conflicting with the GNOME settings manager."
and the problem remains no mather what GTK theme I choose.
Is gnome-settings-daemon responsible for this kind of behavior?

The issue was resolved by updating all to gnome-desktop 2.24 from testing..
Seems like the swedish repository mirrors are a bit left behind..

Open Url iView in same window but full screen

Hi ,
I have a requirement where i need to open the url iview in the same window but in fullscreen mode.
Also for eg if the url is www.google.com ,then the iview should look similar in terms of size as opened in the normal IE browser.Also the url on the portal should change to www.google.com and not http://servername:portnumber/...
Can you please help me in doing so.

There is an easier way to do this
that doesnt limit you to a form submit
button. Remember that jsp is just a
way of getting a servlet to send dynamic
html back to a browser as a response.
So in that case, anything you include
on the .jsp page that's not surrounded by
the declaration, expression, directive or
scriplet tag will be will be included in the
response sent. This includes regular html
and also javascript. So why not use js!
The following code lets you open any type
of file (including .jsp) in any sort of window
that you want:
function newWindow (jspPage){
popup=window.open(jspPage,"","toolbar=yes,menubar=no,width=600,height=400,resizable=yes,scrollbars=yes")
Then on your page you put a link such as:
Click here for new window
This is set up to work with a link but you can also have

How do I make my page links open up within the same window?

I am completely stumped. By default for some reason, every single link I have on all my pages opens up in an external window rather than within the same window. I can't find anywhere to turn this off. I have my hyperlinks open to my other pages not an external page. Please help!

Are these text based hyperlinks that you created? If so then go to the Inspector/Link/Hyperlink pane and make sure the checkbox to Open link in new window is unchecked.

Opening Roles in the same Window?

Hi All,
I have installed ESS for a user. The particular role is displayed for the user too.
But what happens is that...whenever the user clicks on the underlying worksets, a new window is coming,
I want to get the opened in the same window......what property of the role to be changed for that.....or does it involves any change in iView or the page level?
Please share if anyone had solved the same problem.

Sorry, Work Protect Mode is against the User.... not the iView.
Click the personalize link (in the masthead of your portal) - > work protect mode.
1. protect unsaved data
2.choose action in popup on unsaved data
3. discard unsaved data.
you want to select 3 and restart the browser.

Open external links in new window

I can't seem to make firefox open external links, e.g. links opened from other applications, in a new window. This is particularly troublesome on multiple desktops since a new tab may be opened in a firefox window on a desktop other than the active one.
This is no option in the preferences or in about:config that appears to affect this behaviour. It seems there used to be browser.links.open_external that was later removed.

This link will open in de inappbrowser:

If you use jQuery you can do something like this:

Open doc URL: unable to open the report in same window

I'm trying to open a report using open doc url with "swindow=same" but still it opens in a separate window. This happens only when I use JAVA viewer. it works fine in ActiveX and HTML but I want this in JAVA viewer as i'm including this page in my JAVA application and it should open the report in the same window. I tried using "<a>URL</a>" and also target="_self" by HTML interpretation for that object but still the same problem. I'm unable to open the report in the same window by using JAVA viewer for Crystal Reports in info view. Please help me!!!

I have tested that myself and It seems that HTML interpretation does not work with the Java viewer.
I have also tried using a hyperlink containing javascript
eg.
javascript:window.location.href='http://www.sap.com'
but the java viewer seems always to launch a new window before processing the command.
I would recommend to open a case by SAP support ( httP://service.sap.com/support )
