Open File - Security Warning box appears for several app on the desktop [solved]

Hello,
After googling around, I found why I get this warning, how it happens, how to manually fix it but I don't know how to prevent it.
I got this warning when desktop integrity level drop to "low".
Desktop integrity drop to "low" when launching IE (V9) with no network connection and the favorites folder has been redirected to a file server. If the favorites folder is not redirected, desktop integrity level remains the same.
To fix it :
icacls %\username%\desktop /setintegritylevel (OI)(CI)M
But how can I prevent Windows (IE ?) from changing desktop integrity level ? I add the unc path of the file server hosting the favorites folders to the intranet zone to no avail.
Thanks for your help.
Chris

Thanks for your reply.
You never met this message, did you set folder redirection for your users ? Here you can find other people having this message
http://www.lmgtfy.com/?q=open+file+security+warning+desktop+integrity+level
I don't think process monitor or explorer will help because I already know the culprit : IE. If you read my message again, I need to tell IE : if the favorites folder is not accessible, don't modify my local desktop folder integrity level.
Regards
Chris

  • Open File - Security Warning

I have a mapped drive letter to a file server share where I keep many utility scripts (.cmd files).
Whenever I right-click a .cmd file and choose Edit, I'm given an "Open File - Security Warning" dialog.
How can I disable this prompt? I'd like everything on this server to be considered as safe as the things on my local drive.

This solution worked for me! We have a drive mapped to H. I added just simply H and H:\ which redirected to the actual path and it was fine after that. No more security warning.

How to eliminate the “Open File Security Warning” from programs accessed from the file server.
    Open the Control Panel
    Open Internet Options
    Click the Security Tab
    Click on Local Intranet
    Click on Sties
    Click Advanced
Type the drive letter of your file server where the application is located in the “Add this website to this zone” box.
    Click Add
    Click Close
    Click OK
Close Internet Options by clicking OK
    Close the Control Panel
You should no longer get the “Open File Security Warning” when you run an application from the file server.

  • Open File - Security Warning with Network-based Silent Install of CS4

I am attempting to run an enterprise deployment of CS4 Design Standard Edition onto a pool of WinXP Pro workstations. I placed all of the install files on a networked server running Windows 2003, and generated from there all of the requisite .xml files (install, uninstall, and override files). From this network share, I can successfully run a silent install.
HOWEVER. Multiple times (two or three) during the course of the silent install, I receive the same pop-up security warning from Windows XP (definitely an OS message, not anti-virus or other) that reads as follows:
    Open File - Security Warning
Do you want to run this file?
    Name: AIRApplicationRunner.exe
    Publisher: Adobe Systems Incorporated
    Type: Application
    From: (server IP address)
I have tried excluding Adobe Air from the installation package, but I still receive the same security prompt. This is sufficiently a hassle to have to click through these prompts in a silent install. But more importantly I am unable to run the silent install as part of a logoff script because for all intents & purposes it is no longer a silent install (i.e. it requires user intervention). To top it off, I found when testing the logoff script the prompts are suppressed and the installation fails prior to the bulk of the installation (Photoshop, Illustrator, & InDesign).
I'm sure that I could run the install by copying all of the files to each local workstation, but again that would defeat the purpose of an easy, network-based install. In the past I was able to install CS3 in this fashion with no troubles, which of course did not include Adobe Air.
Can anybody offer a suggestion as to how to disable these security messages, or alternately, how to entirely exclude Adobe Air from the install package? I have found a VB script that is supposed to address the security warnings issue, but to run the script also requires the user to accept it at a security prompt.
Thanks in advance for any assistance!

I'm now able to deploy design suite premium cs4 successfully.
The issue for me was that the AirapplicationRunner installs some useless software. I worked around the issue with the Airapplicationrunner prompt by removing any apps that are installed using that method. By "removing" I mean marking that app as "donotinstall" in the deployment file. The apps I removed are these adobe codes for adobe media player, adobe.com, adobeair itself. The below is from my deploy.xml file used for the silent workflow:
    donotinstall
    donotinstall
    donotinstall
If you mark those three adobe codes as "donotinstall" the prompt never appears and the real apps get installed just fine.

  • Open File - Security Warning - minor annoyance

Ever since I installed SQL Developer 1.5.5 I get an Open File - Security Warning. The publisher could not be verified.
I can still run the software, but it is something I haven't seen with SQL Developer before and I have been running it since 1.2
Anyone else have this issue or just me?

I know this a very delayed answer to a 2009 question.  But I had a similar problem today and tried to search for a reply and landed in this page.  Later I figured out that the executable file was in blocked stage.  Files received from mail and internet downloads are blocked based on security settings and execution will be permitted after review and allow manually.  As a one time activity, the executable file can be unblocked (Right click - > Properties -> Click Unblock) after which this warning will not appear.

  • Disable "Open File Security Warning"

Hi whenever I try to open a file from the local hardrive I get the "Open File Security Warning" asking me whether I want to open the file or not. This is getting rather annoying. I searched online but everything I found seems to be dealing with network shares and I am not using that. Just a file on the local hard drive in the computer I am using to the right of me. I remember in my last install I turned it off somehow, but for the life of me I can't figure out how I did it. Anybody have any ideas? Or is this here to stay?

    Windows 7 - Launching unsafe files is in this path;
IE -> Internet Options -> Security tab -> Custome Level -> Scroll down in Settings -> Look for radio button "Launching applications and unsafe files (not secure)".
Don't know if it solves the problem or not but option is there.
Great, on Windows 8 x64 this is an option I can find and set.
It will generate a nasty warning in the system tray. And does not solve the problem:
I have downloaded a warez archive and extracted it. The resulting .exe file is a wrapped program which will extract everything to my choosings. I've used it before.
When I try to run the program, all I get is:
    Windows Security
    These files can't be opened
Your internet security settings prevented one or more files from being opened.
    Show details | Close
I do not use IE, I use chrome. What is this strange behaviour?? :(
Post-EDIT: I found this link with detailed steps for Windows 8, including screenshots.

I am using a Palm Pilot still for several purposes, and the desktop version can run om my Mac OS X 10.6.8, but I cannot find a version thjat runs on OS X Mavericks, which prevents me from upgrading as my PalmPilot is storage for vital info. Any solution?

Thank for for your suggestions. Unfortunately they are of little help. I am running on Snow Leopard and the PalmDesktop works fine. However, I do not want to quit my PalmTungsten unit as it is my backup for all my important access information. If it cannot run on Mavericks and no other solution is at hand, I simply will not update my OS X, but work on my Snow Leopard as it is.
I do not know how on earth I can migrate the information from my Palm into another system, and then quit the PalmPilot. If you have any intelligent solutions to this I would appreciate an input. A manual copy and paste solution is not acceptable. I may however run it on Windows via Parallel Desktop, but it is a lousy solution, and demonstrates (again) the weakness of Apple's OS and lack of compatibility. I am not impressed by the OS X performance.
    Thank your for your attention.

  • Open File - Security Warning for network launch

Another set of applications I am trying to bring over from ZfD 7. They are
simple apps that just launch an executable from a UNC path
(\\server\volume\folder\app.exe). The only action is a Launch Executable
action with the network UNC path to the app. These worked fine with ZfD,
but with ZCM I get a popup security warning box saying that the publisher
could not be verified (Unknown Publisher) every time I launch the
application. I can just click Run and it continues as it should. These
applications are "Unknown" in the sense that I built them myself. Is there
anyway to make this prompt go away and stop bothering me?
    Thanks.

    Try This...
Create a Group Policy in Zen and apply it to the machines you want to run the exe on with the following settings
In "Computer Configuration | Administrative Templates | Windows Components | Internet Explorer | Internet Control Panel | Security Page" make the following changes...
Intranet Sites: Include all local (intranet) sites not listed in other zones - Enabled
Locked-Down Intranet Zone Template - Enabled - Low
Intranet Zone Template - Enabled - Low
Trusted Sites Zone Template - Enabled - Low
Intranet Sites: Include all sites that bypass the proxy server - Enabled
Intranet Sites: Include all network paths (UNCs) - Enabled
Site to Zone Assignments List - Enable - *****
*****Click Show and Then Add... here you identify where you are trying to install from such as *.adomain.com OR server.adomain.com OR 10.0.0.0 OR Z: in the top line and set the value as 1. You can create as many zone assignments you want... I have 4 in mine but that is because i don't completely understand what in the world i am doing!*****
Move to the "Trusted Sites Zone"
Launching programs and unsafe files - Enabled - Enable
Save it and apply it (At your own risk of course!) and hope i didn't forget something...

  • If Firefox is not the default browser is there anyway to create an "Open with Firefox" right click option for internet icons on the desktop??

When internet icons on the desktop are right clicked and Firefox is not the default browser, is there anyway to create an "Open with Firefox" option in the right click menu? If not you should create one in future versions.

You will have to create a copy of the Firefox desktop shortcut and add the URL to the target line if you want to open such an internet shortcut with Firefox.
A normal internet shortcut will always open in the default browser.

  • Why is a security warning is appearing in FF for my website ?

A security warning is appearing in FF for my website but the SSL certificate is brand new and has definitley been setup correctly. The certificate is issued by GeoTrust DV SSL CA

You can solve this probleme by downloading the GeoTrust DV SSL CA and add it to the SSLCertificateChainFile in your Webserver. With this config you tell the Webserver to send the GeoTrust DV SSL CA to Firefox. There is no security gab with this config since the GeoTrust DV SSL CA still needs to be validated with GeoTrust Global CA which is included in Firefox.
By the way, I had the same issue with IE8.

    Hi mafiose15,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Restoring your iPod to factory settings is the best way to try and get it back to working order. You can use the instructions below to restore it:
    How to restore iPod
Verify that you have an active Internet connection, because you may need to download new versions of the iTunes and iPod Software.
Download and install the latest version of iTunes if necessary.
Open iTunes. Connect your iPod to your computer using the USB or FireWire cable that came with your iPod.
After a few moments, your iPod will appear in the Source panel in iTunes.
Select your iPod in the Source panel. You will see information about your iPod appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes window.
    Click Restore.
If you are using a Mac, you will be asked to enter an administrator’s name and password.
A progress bar will appear on the computer screen, indicating that stage one of the restore process has begun. When this stage is done, iTunes will present one of two messages with instructions specific to the iPod model you are restoring.
Disconnect iPod and connect it to iPod Power Adapter (typically applies to older iPod models).
Leave iPod connected to computer to complete restore (typically applies newer iPod models).
During stage two of the restore process, the iPod displays an Apple logo as well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. It is critical that the iPod remain connected to the computer or iPod power adapter during this stage.
Note: The progress bar may be difficult to see, because the backlight on the iPod display may be off.
After stage two of the restore process is complete, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear. It will ask you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences, as it did when you connected your iPod for the first time.
You can find the instructions in this article:

    All the best,

Can someone help me on this?

  • Issue with IE Security Warning box about Flash Player

Recently upgraded to Flash Player 11.8 on a Win7 x64 system with IE9. Am now having a IE Security warning box pop up repeatedly saying Flasher Player wants to open Web Content. If I Allow, it is an endless loop with the warning box. If I Don't Allow, it eventually stops popping up after 3-4 times. Need to know if there is an issue with Flash Player or if there may be something else going on in my computer. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also, I am not a whiz, but manage.

You can either lower the security settings of Internet Explorer, or - easier - download the executable installer from http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/fp_distribution3.html
P.S. note that no browser windows must be open when running the installer.
