Open PS (CS-CS4) and load image from flex/air application?

Hello,
(Not sure wether to post this in the AIR forum or the FLEX forum?)
I am at a loss on how to get my simple application to work. I have a small desktop air application that simply opens Photoshop and runs an action. I used switchboard and the application ran great on PC and MAC. However it only worked for CS3, and CS4 not CS or CS2?. Plus the size of switchboard was a bit large for my small app. I am willing to live with that though . I am using Air with Flex and wanted to know if perhaps there is a beter approach? All the application does is open photoshop, loads an image, and runs an action. Can I do this for all versions of Photoshop using switchboard? Can I do this without switchboard and just use javascript. The big issue is the Air app needs to open Photoshop, and most of the examples have me open PS first and then execute a script located in the PS directory. This needs to work outside of the PS directory. Any examples are appreciated.
I have looked at the following:
- SwitchBoard : only works for CS3-CS4 (on my tests)
- PatchPanel: same issue, plus seperate SDKs
- ExtendScript: requires script to be run from PS not Air

Of course you may have some unstated reason for doing this in Air, but if not...

  • Does iPhone Packager CS 5.5 support camera access and LOADING images from the camera roll?

    Flash CS 5 only supports SAVING to the camera roll, not loading image from it. And it has no access to the camera to take pictures and access the image within the app.
    Does Flash CS 5.5 do these things? There's no point in upgrading if it doesn't support these core feature that I need.

    Hi.
    Just got an app  rejected because the popover to select the pics from the camera roll on  the iPad always appears on to-left corner, and the arrow doesn't point  anywere, and should be pointing to the button which activated it. That  "does not comply with the Apple iOS Human Interface Guidelines, as  required...". On the iPhone there's no issue because it takes over the  whole screen. More from the apple rejection message:
    "Specifically,  we noticed your app contained popover elements that didn't  point to  the element that revealed them. To avoid user confusion, a  popover  element's arrow should point to the element that revealed it."
    So, thanks for including the CameraRoll functionality, but it will be useless in the iPad apparently
    Any workaround to make it appear at a specific place when calling myCameraRoll.browseForImage() ?

  • PDF Not loading anymore on Flex Air Application

    Hi,
    Ever since I updated my Adobe Readed to Version 11, I can't view any PDF on my Flex Air Application anymore. Is there anything i need to do?
    AIR version: 3.6
    OS: Mac OS X
    Flex Builder: 4.6
    Adobe Reader: 11.0.02
    Flex components used: mx:HTML
    Please help.
    Thanks!

    Yes.  This is a well known bug in Air/Google Maps.  A lot of folks reported it on the Google Maps forums and here.  It was reported over a year ago with no action yet.  Major show stopper.
    For this main reason, I switched to the http://developer.mapquest.com AS3 API.  Plus they also recently released a Mobile Flash API that works great.
    I suggest you check it out because I don't anticipate any action on this issue on either side any time soon.
    Good luck!

  • Call JSFL from Flex Air application

    Hi,
    I have a Flex Air application that converts old style flash
    text var txt files into XML. As part of the process it creates a
    jsfl file that when run will automate through older FLAs and
    upgrade them with changes required.
    My question is this. Using the command
    fl.runScript(locationOfJSFLscript) in flash, it will automatically
    call the script and execute it. How do I do the same in Flex? i.e.
    I have a button in the application. I press it and it sends the
    call to run the script.
    Thank you

  • Can you call external exe file from Flex Air Application like notepad.exe

    Im trying to make my Air Application open an External exe file anyone know if this can be done?

    Hi,
    If you want to share code between a flex app and AIR, you
    could isolate the common bits as a swc file and link to the swc
    from both the flex and air project.
    Also, you could have the flex mxml file and air mxml file
    load the same module (which has the same stuff as your original
    flex application) using ModuleLoader.
    Or, you could even load the swf of your flex application
    using SWFLoader in your air mxml file.
    Basically, check out creating flex libraries, modules and
    runtime loading of swfs.

  • Issues with Loading Images from a Jar File

    This code snippet basically loops through a jar of gifs and loads them into a hashmap to be used later. The images all load into the HashMap just fine, I tested and made sure their widths and heights were changing as well as the buffer size from gif to gif. The problem comes in when some of the images are loaded to be painted they are incomplete it looks as though part of the image came through but not all of it, while other images look just fine. The old way in which we loaded the graphics didn't involve getting them from a jar file. My question is, is this a common problem with loading images from a jar from an applet? For a while I had tried to approach the problem by getting the URL of the image in a jar and passing that into the toolkit and creating the image that way, I was unsuccessful in getting that to work.
    //app is the Japplet
    MediaTracker tracker = new MediaTracker(app);
    //jf represents the jar file obj, enum for looping through jar entries
    Enumeration e = jf.entries();
    Toolkit toolkit = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit();
    //buffer for reading image stream
    byte buffer [];
    while(e.hasMoreElements())
    fileName = e.nextElement().toString();
    InputStream inputstream = jf.getInputStream(jf.getEntry(fileName));
    buffer = new byte[inputstream.available()];
    inputstream.read(buffer);
    currentIm = toolkit.createImage(buffer);
    tracker.addImage(currentIm, 0);
    tracker.waitForAll();
    images.put(fileName.substring(0, fileName.indexOf(".")), currentIm);
    } //while
    }//try
    catch(Exception e)
    e.printStackTrace();
    }

    compressed files are not the problem. It is just the problem of the read not returning all the bytes. Here is a working implementation:
    InputStream is = jar.getInputStream(entry);
    ByteArrayOutputStream os = new ByteArrayOutputStream(1024);
    try{
    byte[] buf = new byte[1024];
    int read;
    while((read = is.read(buf)) > 0) {
    os.write(buf, 0, read);
    catch(Exception e){
         e.printStackTrace();
         return null;
    image = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().createImage(os.toByteArray());
    This works but I think you end up opening the jar a second time and downloading it from the server again. Another way of getting the images is using the class loader:
    InputStream is = MyApplet.class.getResourceAsStream(strImageName);
    In this case, the image file needs to be at the same level than MyApplet.class but you don't get the benefit of enumerating of the images available in the jar.

  • PJC - Loading Images from JAR Files

    I'm developing a PJC class that involves loading images. I would like to be able to find and use an image contained in a JAR file just like the built-in Forms items do; not the JAR file where my class is contained but any external ones defined in the server archive settings.
    I have seen the loadImage method in the demo RolloverButton class but this only loads images from the class's JAR and not any others.
    Is there a VButton method or an Oracle loader class for finding image resources from the defined JAR archives? If not, could someone supply some code for achieving this.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
    the jar file name the images are in shouldn't matter for the code as long as the package name is preserved. If you want to see it with your own eyes, do the following
    1. Back up demo90.jar
    2. Create a copy of it and call it demo90img.jar
    3. Open demo90.jar in winzip and remove all images
    4. Open demo90img.jar and remove all Java classes
    5. add ,/forms90demo/jars/demo90img.jar to the archive_jini tag of a demo you want to test this on
    6. Run the application and see the images despite the fact they are now in a separate jar file. Note in the Jinitiator console that the new jar files are downloaded and replace the existing, cached, jars
    7. Run an application that doesn't have demo90img.jar configured to see that the images are missing.

  • Saving and loading images (png) on the iPhone / iPad locally

    Hi,
    you might find this helpful..
    Just tested how to save and load images, png in this case, locally on the i-Devices.
    In addition with a SharedObject it could be used as an image cache.
    Make sure you have the adobe.images.PNG encoder
    https://github.com/mikechambers/as3corelib/blob/master/src/com/adobe/images/PNGEncoder.as
    Not really tested, no error handling, just as a start.
    Let me know, what you think...

    What are you using for the conversion? Does whatever you are using for the conversion include an iPod or iPhone compatible setting for the conversion?
    iTunes includes a create iPod or iPhone version for a video in your iTunes library. Select the video and at the menu bar, go to Advanced and select Create iPod or iPhone version. This will duplicate the video in your iTunes library. Select this version for transfer to your iPhone to see if this makes any difference.

  • Cannot load image from applicationStorageDirectory

    Hi!
    At program startup I load binary data of images from a remote server and save them locally in my applicationStorageDirectory:
    imageFile = new File(File.applicationStorageDirectory.nativePath);
    imageFile = imageFile.resolvePath("images/" + obj.id + extension);
    var filestream:FileStream = new FileStream();
    filestream.open(imageFile, FileMode.WRITE);
    filestream.writeBytes(loader.data);
    filestream.close();
    later, when I need the image for display reasons, I try to load them from my applicationStorageDirectory:
    file = new File(File.applicationStorageDirectory.nativePath);
    file = file.resolvePath("images/" + obj.id + extension);
    image.load(new URLRequest(file.nativePath));
    I made an output with both urls and they are identical. Nonetheless the image fails to load with error #2035.
    In the desktop version of this application I store images in and load them from the applicationDirectory. This works fine!
    Can anybody help?
    Judith

    I found the solution myself. If I want to load a file from the applicationStorageDirectory I must not reference it with file.nativePath but file.url !

  • Loader will load images from another server, but then we get error on Bitmap operation

    I'm developing an app that currently is using Loader to get images from another server.  This shouldn't currently work since we are still waiting for the owner of that server to put a crossdomain file in place.  However, it does work -- sort of .
    Loader can load the images fine, without an error.  But then the app has a feature in which we are making a larger duplicate of the image to display in a sidebar, we do this in this manner:
    var myBitmap:Bitmap = Bitmap(loader.content);
    and when this runs we get a Flash player security error 2122, sandbox violation.
    So while I'm hoping all this will fix itself when the crossdomain.xml file is put in place, I'm confused as to why we only get the sandbox error when we make a Bitmap from the image, and not when we initially try to retrieve the image.
    (Incidentally: is there a better way to make a "copy" of an image loaded by a Loader, and then change its width and height for simultaneous display in another part of the stage?  I don't need to change its actual dimensions -- I just need to change its display width and height.)
    Thanks!

    The sandbox allows viewing, not editing from another server without a crossdomain.
    So, when you try to load it up, it loads it, but "read-only" and gives you an error when you try to "edit" it by making a new Bitmap out of it.
    This should resolve itself once that crossdomain is in place.
    ||EDIT||
    I just realized I should clarify my statement a little more.
    When you load images from another server without a crossdomain, it allows the load for display only.  When you try to load data, it will fail.  This is because, XML data, or some other type of data is editable by default, and images are only viewable by default.  So, the image fails when you try to convert it into an editable form.

  • Problem loading images from a return value of a function

    hello, I write because I uin problem in loading images from a return value of a function.
    I created a database with a field "image" of type string, where I put the physical address of the image. I have written like this: {__DIR__ }foto.jpg
    Place the code, so you understand better
    function imageViewImage(): javafx.scene.image.Image {
    connetti();
    lass.forName(driverName);
    con = DriverManager.getConnection(url,user,"");
    stmt = con.createStatement();
    var richiesta:String = "SELECT image from viaggio WHERE id_viaggio=7";
    rs1 = stmt.executeQuery(richiesta);
    var result :String;
    rs1.next();
    risultato = rs1.getString("image");
    JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, result);
    var imagez = Image{
    url:"{result}";
    return imagez;
    The image is in the source code package
    First I connect to the database, run the query and I take the contents of the image.
    Can anyone help me?
    Is right to put in the database {__DIR__} foto.jpg or do I put only foto.jpg?

    Hello unkus_nob,
    I would rather suggest you to save only filename of that image like "foto.jpg" in database. And just concat it with the String variable containing "{__DIR__}".
    Actually the javafx compiler converts the {__DIR__} to the existing class directory path something like : "jar:file:/..../".
    var currentDir ="{__DIR__}";
    risultato = "{currentDir}{rs1.getString("immagine"})";
    var image = Image{
        url:risultato
    return image;--NARAYAN G.

    Edited by: trangkd on Aug 9, 2011 3:08 PM

    Hi,
    I've been google-ing up-and-down, but couldn't find any implementation of .cur and Java. If anyone has done so, please post... I was looking for an easy way i.e. couple lines of code to load image from a .cur file .. like we do with gif or jpeg out of the box. The JIMI has an extensive support of many other formats, and it will be an alternative if the graphics department won't give us a new set of cursor images in gif/jpg format.
    Thanks so much.
