Open Window Action/Behavior

I am use to creating an open window action in GL CS that uses a normal link to the page plus target="_blank" so that if the user has JS disabled, it will still open in a new window, though without cool JS specs.
However, I can not get this to work the same in DW CS3. When I set the open window behavior up in the "same" way, it both opens a new window set by the JS as well as opening a new window in accordance with the target instruction.
Here are examples:
GL: http://www.marketingdurango.com/tests/openwindow.html
DW: http://www.marketingdurango.com/tests/dwopenwindow.html
Other than creating this in GL, then cutting and pasting the script into DW, what can I do to make this work "correctly" when created in DW? Is their another behavior somewhere that will work the way I am use to?
Thanks,
~Nick

Hi Nate,
There is no onclick=event that I can find in the DW version. In fact, there is hardly any JS code at all--at least in comparison to the GL version. So, I have no clue how to add a return false. I do understand the philosophy, but JS is currently beyond me.
Here's all the code there is:
(in the head):
< script type="text/javascript">
< !--
function MM_openBrWindow(theURL,winName,features) { //v2.0
window.open(theURL,winName,features);
//-->
< /script>
(in the body):
< a href="http://www.durangoherald.com" target="_blank" onclick="MM_openBrWindow('http://www.durangoherald.com','','toolbar=yes,location=yes,stat us=yes,menubar=yes,scrollbars=yes,resizable=yes,width=100,height=100')">testdw< /a>
Thanks,
~Nick

  • Open Window 'Action' does not work in Explorer

    Mac 10.4.11 G5 GLCS1
    I have created a Open Window action (see attachment) that works fine (if not in very sophisticated way) in Safari and other Mac browsers, it also works fine on PC popular browsers with the exception of Explorer. See for your self at http://www.breweryartists.co.uk/pages/buyaposter3.html
    As Explorer is an important browser on the PC I need help to overcome this problem.

    I'm on CS2 so I cannot tell if something was broken in CS1. This function works fine in CS2.Does it work for you if you create a new blank page with only this action on it?
    Instead of wrangling a lot of bloated javascript, why not craft only what is needed?

  • Open Window Action Stopped Working

    I've been happily using Daverj Open Window 2.1 for years with GLCS2 and never had a problem, well that is until today. For some reason the action(s) just won't work. I've check the code and it looks correct (not that I'm an expert by any stretch).
    The odd thing is that any of the older pages I have using this all work just fine both on the client and server side. I can load an older page into the browser from GLCS2 and the actions work, but if I do the same with a page and a newly applied one it doesn't. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Nate,
    You and Jon are pretty good at this stuff where as I am a few clicks below bad ;-) There is a fair amount of JavaScript on the page, but it's all working fine. The problem comes into play when I add the action(s) from GLCS2. You will see that there are links and I'd like to turn them into pop-up windows. When I try the problem occurs.
    This is a link to the page where I want to put the actions on. Now try and remember I'm just passable at this stuff. So go easy on me. . . ;-)

  • I am running 3.6.12 and my new tab and/or window actions are the same. How can i open new links within apps into new tabs?

    I used to be able to control new tab actions such as opening on top of current tab or in a new tab. This is frustrating as i always cover up where I am or was! How can this be corrected so I can open a new tab in a new tab? I am enrolled in an on-line class and can not open tabs in a new tab as needed as it always places the new tab on top of teh current or old tab.
    Funny as i use to complain about opening in new windows!
    I am missing how to control new tabs and new window actions?

    Do you have any tab related extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) that allow to divert links?<br />

    In the video: mission control in action in Mac 101,we see many open windows which I don't have. How do they get there?

    On modern MBairs, the F3 key will take you to Mission control.  Once there, hold the Option key down and you'll see  a tab with the "+" sign on it.  Pressing this will add another desktop.  You can assign apps to desktops or just drag them there.   Switching between desktops is done by swiping either 3 or 4 fingers across the trackpad. (depend on the option chosen in System Preferences > Trackpad).

    As an initial
    troubleshooting step, please try to reset the Flash CS3
    configuration to
    further isolate the issue:
    To reset or re-create the Flash configuration:
    - Close all applications
    - Go to your Hard Drive
    - Then Users
    - Choose your user login (with house icon)
    - Go to Library
    - Then Application Support
    - Choose Adobe
    - Open Flash CS3 or Flash 9 folder
    - Open "EN" folder
    - Rename Configuration folder to Configuration_OLD
    - Launch Flash again and try accessing the Actions Panel.
    It worked for me.

  • Open Browser Window Action changes main window also

    I am using the Open Browser Window action on an <a> tag (href) and not only does it open a new browser window, it also changes the content of my main window to the linked page. I can't figure out how to make it stop doing this! Any help? (fyi - I am an HTML rookie, so be gentle)
    Thanks!

    Without seeing the code it's more difficult to explain.  But basically if you look at the code just change the href to "#" instead of the linked page.  That should solve the issue.

  • Command Tab not pulling up open windows from Dock

    Sorry if this is covered elsewhere, though I have looked:
    Using Command-Tab to invoke Application Switch is very helpful. However I have an issue with iCal and with AddressBook sometimes. If they have an open window, minimised to the dock, it does not jump up on switching. Other apps do; just switching with command-tab to that app pulls up the most recent window. With iCal/AddressBook, it switches to the app; but the window remains in the dock and needs a click before it jumps up. Which kind of negates the app-switch in the first place, if you need to follow through with a mouse-click as well.

    Alastair,
    I believe that behavior can be attributed to any application with one minimized window. I get around that limitation by using the Hide feature. For example, just use the Address Book>Hide Address Book (⌘+H) command instead of Minimize (⌘+M). Using Apple + Tab will then open the Address Book application window as you would expect.
    You can use the Keyboard to access a minimized window, but it is not convenient. (Control + F3) will give you access to the Dock. Then use the arrow keys to navigate to the Dock icon of your choice and hit enter. That action will open the application or window of your choice. Esc will cancel the keyboard action.

  • Windows 10: Open Windows Are Resized When The Lid Is Closed

    I have just done the free Windows 10 Pro upgrade. Everything seems to be working fine; except for this issue. Every time I simply close and re-open the laptop lid, the open windows are resized. Most windows get restored to where they started, yet they seem to ALL have been resized and then sized to their previous location. You can tell because minimizing / restoring windows does not remember the actual last size that you used. But some windows DO NOT get resized back where I left them. Chrome in partiular becomes crazy. Sometimes the window becomes maximized; and other times it gets sized to a smaller rectangle at the top left of the screen. You can see all the windows flicker and jump around when you re-open the lid. ... Minor update: I performed another Windows 10 reset: I reset the operating system, keeping User Files. So the system got re-installed. I ran Windows Update until all updates came down. I also ran the Lenovo System Update and installed all updates. Specifically, at this point, I haven't gone looking for additional drivers, such as the graphics drivers --- and on this dual-graphics, there is no control panel for the high performance NVIDIA GPU ... I don't know if that is making any difference. The bug DOES persist; but behaves marginally different at this point ... at least, the open Chrome window no longer resizes; and the Task Manager doesn't move; but other things still jump around, and the open Control Panel window becomes duplicated. Again, this is just by closing and re-opening the laptop lid. The Lid-Closed behavior is set to "Do Nothing"; and the Intel Graphics is set to High Performacen mode. ... So I don't know if they do, but I would not understand why the graphics would switch when the lid closes: they still might. I have another video that captures the behavior. Again: there is no Lid-Closed action, and just closing and re-opening the lid causes the resolution to switch back and forth. YouTube: https://youtu.be/Qapt3ZyOVE4 ... I would like to see this cured, since it is truly a very annoying bug! Your work becomes disrupted simply from closing the lid.

  • Need help with refreshing open window in new tab

    Hello all,
    First, all my other problems I've solved.  One last thing, being a newbie and trying things I've found on the net and them
    not working, I can use your help one last time.  My code has a Home page that peforms a Search (most of you have
    I am sure done this), and from that search submit a window opens in a new tab (browser tab) and has the results on
    it.
    That works fine.  What I'm having trouble with is being able to perform a new search and refreshing that open window
    with the new data.  Right now I am closing that window by clicking on the tab and then performing the search.
    While it works, it's not user friendly.
    So, I've tried the usual  mywindow=window.open("url.cfm"); and then trying to grab that handle to refresh, but to
    no avail.  Has anyone done this?
    Thanks!

    Here's an example of how you could do it.
    <script>
    function submitAndFocusTarget(form) {
      var win = window.open("", form.target);
      form.submit();
      win.focus();
    </script>
    <form action="index.cfm" target="mysearchwin" method="get" onsubmit="submitAndFocusTarget(this); return false;">
      <input type="text" name="search" value="" />
      <input type="submit" value="search" />
    </form>

  • All open windows close when another one is opened

    Running OSX10.6.7
    Recently the window behavior has changed, now when a different active app is selected, all the windows from other active apps become hidden
    if one holds the Option key when selecting a new app or a hidden window in an open one, the new window opens and the old ones remain on screen but not active
    this behavior is new, perhaps coincident with the latest snow leopard update
    I suppose that I may have triggered this change by some accidental combination of key strokes
    I prefer that the act of opening a new window not affect the other open windows
    is this behavior controlled by a preference pane somewhere, or some combination of key strokes or by one of those programs such as Macpilot or Tinkertool, although I do not recollect deliberately changing anything

    It's a hidden Dock preference. You can change it in TinkerTool, or launch the Terminal application, copy or drag -- don't type -- the following text into the window, and press Return:
    defaults write com.apple.dock single-app NO
    You may have to relaunch the Dock or log out for it to take effect, I'm not sure.

  • How to get the mail item opened window?

    Hi,
    I need to get the window of the opened mail.
    Within the mailItem.Open() event tried to get the Application.ActiveExplorer() but it returns the main outlook window.
    From the load of the addin tried as follows, but hwndSource always returns null.
    activeWindow = _mailItem.Application.ActiveWindow()
    ((Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.ExplorerEvents_10_Event)activeWindow).Deactivate += MyEvent
    public void MyEvent()
    System.Diagnostics.Process[] processes = System.Diagnostics.Process.GetProcesses();
    foreach (System.Diagnostics.Process process in processes)
    if (process.MainWindowTitle.StartsWith (_mailItem.Subject))
    IntPtr handle = process.MainWindowHandle;
    System.Windows.Interop.HwndSource hwndSource = System.Windows.Interop.HwndSource.FromHwnd(handle);
    System.Windows.Window window = hwndSource.RootVisual as System.Windows.Window;
    Any suggestions to get the mail item opened window? Please help.
    VS2010 C# with Outlook 2007.

    Hi Damian,
    When the Open event is fired, the Inspector object
    is initialized but not yet displayed.
    You can handle the
    NewInspector event of the Inspectors class which is fired whenever a new inspector window is
    opened, either as a result of user action or through program code. Then the
    Activate event of the Inspector class is fired, when an inspector becomes the active window,
    either as a result of user action or through program code.

  • Window doesn't open window all the way using "+" sign

    I made the switch from Windows to Mac a few years back and besides not having a HDD activity light, the biggest pet peeve I have about Apple's OS's is that they don't allow you to click on the "+" sign in the upper left hand corner of an open window to get the window to open fully or maybe it's a trick that I haven't been taught. I works when you use it while using "TextEdit" but not on other applications that I've used. They added that feature to Safari for Windows so I'm sure that it would be no problem to insert that line of code in Leopard or Tiger that would take care of that. It would be moot point to ask Apple why so my question is, does anyone know of a 3rd party app. that does that job for you? The only reason I'm asking is because it's a real time saver for me and I'm sure for a lot of others.

    firstmacnewbie,
    I'll explain the issue, even though it doesn't help you. You see, Windows does a few things as a result of historic deficiencies that it has had. Just so we're clear, these deficiencies are no longer present in modern versions of Windows, but Windows users are accustomed to the little quirks that accompany them- all of which still exist in Windows- nonetheless.
    Most of these issues relate to Windows' historic lack of multi-tasking. In your case, you are used to the behaviors of a machine and OS that will only display one window at a time, one application at a time (again, this is historically, but the tendencies still exist). When Windows would only display one application window, users got into the habit of viewing and using only one thing at a time.
    Another glaring difference that springs from the same historic lack of multi-tasking is the use of "cut and paste" for file system objects. Because Windows would only display one "snapshot" of the file system, in one window, some "workaround" had to be invented to allow users to move files from one place to another. Thus "cut and paste." Because the Mac OS has almost always been able to display multiple windows, and has almost always had drag and drop functionality, user were able to simply drag files from one place to another. No "cut and paste" was needed. Keep in mind that "cut and paste" is an abstract concept, not related to reality, while drag and drop is very much intuitive and realistic (when you want to move a real object somewhere, you cannot simply toss it up in the air, trusting that it will stay in some abstract "ether" until its destination is convenient. No, you must physically move it from the first place to the second, holding it in the meantime).
    Getting back to your specific issue: You would be better served by getting used to the way things are in Mac OS, which is designed around the concept of having and using multiple open windows. This precludes opening windows up beyond their reasonable usefulness. This is especially true with today's modern displays, which sport high resolutions and large amounts of Desktop "real estate." I actually have my Safari window opened up a little beyond what is necessary to display any and all web pages, and it still consumes not much more than half of my display. Why would I want to open it more (it wouldn't show any more of any web page), hampering my ability to access either the Finder or some other application? Why would you? Again, you would be better served by "unlearning" your Windows habits.

  • Update opens Windows Explorer instead of download iOS 5...

    When I connect my iPad 2 (4.3.3) to iTunes (10.5), then select Update, it opens Windows Explorer instead of looking for the update from Apple.  How can I get it to download iOS 5?  I am using 32-bit Windows 7 Enterprise.

    It typically opens the default browser regardless of which browser you're actually using.  I'm wondering if there's a funky registry key or something that confuses things for your system.
    Either way, we usually launch the default system browse, which is not necessarily the browser you started the installation with.  This is a long-standing bad experience, and something that I complain to the team that makes the installer about on a regular basis.  Everyone involved recognizes that the behavior is less than ideal, but it's a fundamental design problem and it's not something that can be addressed with a simple fix.  It *is* very much on the radar as something that we want changed, and I'm pretty sure that it will get resolved in the installer over the long-term.
    In the meantime, if you would like to avoid the Flash Player upgrade process entirely, Google Chrome includes Flash Player as a built-in component.  There's nothing separate to download from Adobe, and all the updates are made available directly through Chrome's update mechanism.

  • Opening windows with JavaScript

    I am reasonably happy with my feedback screen, but after a
    visitor sends a
    message I would like to close it, and then pop up a smaller
    "Thank you" window
    for a few seconds.
    After a lot of messing around, I have more or less got this
    working (and have a
    slightly better understanding of JavaScript), but have a
    number of questions.
    1. What is the difference between MM_openBrWindow() and
    open.window()? They
    appear to do the same thing, and to take the same parameters.
    2. If I open the new feedback window, using either of the
    above, and then use
    open.window to open the Thank you window from the feedback
    window, it appears to
    use the same parameters as the previous window, regardless of
    what I specify.
    Is there a way around this?
    3 The alternative to this would be to put code in the
    originating window which
    popped up the feedback window, and then popped up the Thank
    you window when the
    feedback window closed. Can I have the first window return a
    result, and then
    pass it on to the second window, and how would I access it in
    the second window?
