Openbox: always on top/bottom, normal problem

Let's see if I can describe my problem in a simple way:
sometimes (I cant see any pattern) openbox just gets weird, and the windows start being on bottom, or on top of eich other and I cant set them properly.
for example: I have thunar running, and then I open another window (chrome for example), and I have that new one selected. however, the window that is on top, is the older one(thunar). and if I open another new window, that one will be on the bottom of all the older ones. (the older window stays on top).
The only way I can make a window come up is if I ctrl+alt and selected.
even the openbox menu stays on bottom of other windows sometimes!
this is really weird, and the only solution I have is if I restart openbox, which is really annoying...
did anyone had similar problems? this doest happen everyday.. (this symptom disappeared last week and then it came again today)
regards

  • MBP unibody top/bottom alignment problem

    Hello all,
My MBP (mid-2009, 15-in, aluminum unibody) won't shut correctly. I've noticed that the hinge on one side has a wider gap than the other side, and the top piece (the lid/screen) doesn't match the bottom piece.
The left side of the top piece protrudes from the end of the bottom piece by a few millimeters, and the right side is slightly receding from the edge of the bottom piece. In short, the top piece seems to have been tilted a bit. Is there a fix for this? Does Apple provide free repair for these kind of stuff? If not, is there a quick fix for this situation?
Please do share your experiences and advices.
    Thank you very much.

Unless you have Apple Care there is no free repair in sight.  Even if you did, I would not be surprised if the repair facility interpreted the misalignment as accidental damage, not covered under warrantee
If you are very much mechanically inclined, go to iFixit and glean some information on display replacement and try the repair yourself and/or order parts that are not distorted and do a replacement.  Vast majority of people are not in that category, so it would be more prudent to leave to the experts.  The repair will not be inexpensive.
    Ciao.

  • "Always on Top" of jdk 1.5 is not working when...

I created a sample application that has Frame/Window and displays some text. Then i needed to make the window always visible on top of any other application or windows. But then when i opened applications like Battle Realms, Counter Strike, or any other games, the window is blocked by the previously run application.
Can you help me on how can i provide solution with this?
    Thanks in advance.

    About setAlwaysOnTop()
Changes the always-on-top window state. An always-on-top window is a window that stays above all other windows except maybe other always-on-top windows. If there are several always-on-top windows the order in which they stay relative to each other is not specified and is platform dependent.
If some other window already is always-on-top then the relative order between these windows is unspecified (depends on platform). No window can be brought to be over always-on-top window except maybe another always-on-top window.
All owned windows of an always-on-top window automatically become always-on-top windows. If a window ceases to be always-on-top its owned windows cease to be always-on-top.
When an always-on-top window is sent toBack its always-on-top state is set to false.
This method makes the window always-on-top if alwaysOnTop is true. If the window is visible, this includes bringing window toFront, then "sticking" it to the top-most position. If the window is not visible it does nothing other than setting the always-on-top property. If later the window is shown, it will be always-on-top. If the Window is already always-on-top, this call does nothing.
If alwaysOnTop is false this method changes the state from always-on-top to normal. The window remains top-most but its z-order can be changed in the normal way as for any other window. Does nothing if this Window is not always-on-top. Has no effect on relative z-order of windows if there are no other always-on-top windows.

  • Can I make the TestStand Properties dialog an 'always on top' window?

I am having window Z order problems, such that calling PropertyObject.DisplayPropertiesDialog() sometimes sends the window behind the my application window. This causes people to think that the application has crashed (it's only waiting for them to dismiss the properties dialog), and often results in the fatal three finger salute.
This problem cannot be solved by setting Engine.AppMainHwnd, or using the PropDlgOption_ModalToAppMainWind option - it's a long story. Is there a way to set the Z-order priority of TestStand dialogs? If I could set the dialog to 'always on top', all my problems would be solved.

    Hi Aaron,
Unfortunately there is no way in TestStand to set the Z order property. You may be able to use Windows API calls though to accomplish the same goal. I will however put in a product suggestion for you so that this request may be looked at.

  • Firefox always on top problem

when i use firefox 3.5.9 and then make it always on top of other windows even if i minimize the window for a short period to check another window and then re maximize it firefox still remembers the stay on top setting.
but with version 3.6.3 if i set it always on top and then minimize and then maximise it forgets this setting and will be like any regular window. so how can i fix this. (every other windows program remembers the setting like firefox 3.5.9 but firefox 3.6.3 is a strange exception)

When I restarted in safe mode, the firefox window was no longer stuck on top. Restarted again (firefox was set to "show my windows and tabs from last time" for both restarts) in regular mode and it stayed fixed. Maybe just a restart where "show my windows and tabs from last time" is firefox start up setting would fix stuck on top problem?

  • Using top/bottom snap in openbox

Hi friends,is there any way to use top/bottom snap windows in openbox. I was able to create right/left snap configuration for openbox.now i want to extend it to top/bottom.

Gary,<BR><BR>Thanks for the quick reply. But is it just me, or does it seem somewhat lame that there's not a built-in functionality for top/bottom reports? Or could it be that that functionality falls more into the Analysis category than the basic reporting category, and that's why Analyzer has it and HR doesn't?<BR><BR>Jared

  • Problem creating an "always on top" window

    Hi to all,
I'm developing an application and I want to create an "always ot top" window (for win32).
I used madtown54's c++ code (http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=57&thread=348024&message=1443221#1443221), but at runtime I receive this error:
    java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: getNativeWindowHandle
    at com.tilab.newtel.popupclient.DisplayMessage.getNativeWindowHandle(Native Method)
I'va also tried vdbjoris' code(http://www.esus.com/docs/GetQuestionPage.jsp?uid=102 ), but with the same result...
    Any suggestion?

    Thank you for your reply!
Yes, I have. I receive an error when I try to call a native method, not when loading the .dll library.
    Any other suggestion?

  • Dreamweaver Panels - Only one panel visible at a time, others get obscured even with Always On Top.

I have a problem with my Dreamweaver MX, and it is that I can only see one panel at a time, any other open panels get obscured. For example, with the work space maximized, and having the properties and behaviors panels open, I can only see one of the panels at the same time. If I click on any area of the work space each open panel will display and with the next click the other will display. If I make the work space smaller then the whole area of my screen, and move any open panels outside of the Dreamweaver work space, only then they will stay visible. I know this is not normal behavior, because I used to be able to see all the open panels simultaneously, with the work space maximized to use all the screen area. I went to Preferences> Panels> Always On Top, and all the checkmarks are still set, so as to keep all panels on top at all times, but this does no longer be the case. Can someone tell me what happened here, and how I can get back to being able to see all the open panels? BTW, I tried installing older version of Dreamweaver 4, and the same thing happens to both installed versions. This is extremely annoying!
    Thanks. -Al.

Since I upgraded to Firefox 19 from 18.0.2, on my Windows XP (SP3) laptop, I, too, can no longer open a new window. File-->New Window does nothing; also can no longer tear off a tab and open it in a new window (it stays where it is). Also, if I right-click on a tab and select Move to New Window, nothing happens. All of these worked fine in FF 18.0.2. All of these work fine with FF 19 on Windows 7. Only an issue on my XP laptop.
After trying to open a new window, and not seeing the new window come up (and yes, I waited a long time), I decided to close my current window, which had multiple tabs open. Instead of just closing, it pops up the message reminding me that I'm about to close all those tabs. If I say close, and then go into the Task Manager, the Firefox application has disappeared (as expected), but the firefox (and plug-in container) processes are still running. So I have to manually kill the Firefox process to get it to quit. it's as if it thinks there is another Window open (the one I tried to open but never appeared). This happens every single time! I've restarted my laptop, and that does not resolve the problem.
Is there a way to downgrade back to v 18.0.2 until this is fixed?

  • "Show Desktop" bug forces any program windows to be stuck "Always-on-top"

What I found under Windows 7, when you use the "Show Desktop" feature (I prefer the ⊞ Win + D shortcut) and then bring all windows back by using it again, some windows behave as if they're glued to the front of the z-order. What this means is, say, I have windows
A B and C open, with focus on A, hit ⊞ Win +D twice, and now it may happen that if I then want to switch to B or C, either by Alt+Tab or by selecting them on the taskbar, the taskbar shows the highlight, but A stays visible (and usable, it's not just a rendering
    issue) in the foreground.
Imagine the following situations, all three windows cascading and overlapping:
    A (focus)
    B
    C
    -> ⊞ Win + D
    Desktop (focus)
    -> ⊞ Win + D
    A (focus)
    B
    C
    -> click C on taskbar
    A
    C (focus)
    B
    -> click B on taskbar
    A
    B (focus)
    C
And so on. Focus means actual input focus, i.e. in second situation, any keyboard typing is sent to window B while window A is in the foreground.
It does not matter what kind of application; in my current case an instance of Outlook and an instance of Explorer is stuck, while a second instance of Explorer and an instance of Firefox behave normally. This should show that this problem can occur even between
multiple instances of the same application, and that there are no fancy applications involved that like to pretend they are the most important program and internally force "always on top".
Showing and unshowing the desktop again doesn't help; in the worst case another window might end up with the "glued to the top of the z-order" too. Between those, I can easily switch, but in order to get a window which still behaves normally on top, I have
to manually minimize the offending windows.
The only cure seems to close the offending windows so far, I've not found anything else that helps.
Could it be that Windows 7 has a bug that can force an ALWAYS_ON_TOP flag
onto some windows when restoring from "Show Desktop", or am I doing something wrong?
    More information from another user:
I use win+d. Issue easy to replicate, Win7-64bit-Ultimate.
The affected windows (any program) seem to be placed into a separate "Z" group. You can place multiple/many windows into this always-on-top state, those in the affected state will function normally in relation to each other with the exception that: - The group
as a whole is always-on-top of any non-affected window - The whole group is on top of the taskbar. - The whole group does not respond to (context on taskbar) "cascade windows" or similar commands.
The fact that the affected windows are on top of the taskbar and otherwise function as "special windows" shows that windows 7 has a hidden "feature" of always-on-top that gets applied with Win+D. The feature appears to place windows in a super window state
that is on top of the taskbar. The normal group remaining behind the taskbar. (When you click the start menu or context menu of the taskbar, the start menu/taskbar comes to the foreground of the always-on-top group, however this does not revert the affected
windows, only a temporary takeover until you switch to something other than the start menu/taskbar)
This is key to finding an answer. How do we get windows to unassign the special status or not do the assignment in the first place?

It appeared to have cleared by closing all windows and restarting. Initially I could not reproduce the error, then after opening all my working windows, I did indeed reproduce it on any window.
I almost think it could be initialized with something to do with multiple windows of Chrome, and then the show desktop problem will crop up once one window has it. This was because: After messing around some more with a chrome session saver (session buddy)
and restoring sessions and getting the super state, I restored and closed the window I was in and now I am again at a place where I can not reproduce the error, even in my "work environment" with some 35 chrome tabs in two windows, plus other programs, file
locations, remote desktops and a second chrome profile with another dozen tabs.
So, back to square one with finding the actual instigator of the super state phenomenon.
Once you actually have the super sate issue, the following will reproduce:
Ok, I am doing this as I type it:
Open chrome (to view this website), then Notepad, then Calculator, (could be any windows, but for the purpose of demonstration, follow along with me)
The windows should function normally, overlap your windows so that you can see the edge of all windows and the Z-order is (from front to back):the browser on top, then the calculator, then Notepad (you should be able to see part of the background windows).
Now, with the browser on top, press win+d, then win+d again.
Click on Calculator, then your browser, your browser is now stuck in the foreground. Clicking on notepad will bring the focus to notepad, and it will be in front of the calculator, yet it will stay behind the browser, as your browser is in "super state". (many
arrangements of switching focus after returning from win+d will create the problem, with the exeption of clicking the desktop, I also noticed that I could not get calculator into super state unless it overlapped my chrome browser).
Again, this does not seem to work until at least one of your windows is affected. We do not know how to get the initial window, only subsequent ones.
I will post back if I find anything else.
Let me know if there is anything that develops.

  • IPhoto 09 - iDVD 09: black Borders left/right AND top/bottom

Setup: Snow Leopard 10.6.3, iPhoto 09, iDVD 09, all patches applied.
Source Material: HiDef 3:2 pictures in iPhoto, arranged in a iPhoto slideshow.
Export: "publish to iDVD" in iPhoto - everything works fine.
Settings in iDVD: professional quality, Always scale slide to TV Safe area: DISABLED. aspect ratio: 16:9
Target: Full HD TV Screen 16:9
Result: the image quality is not great, but ok. But: there are huge black borders left/right (which is perfectly fine given the difference between 16:9 and 3:2) AND on the top and buttom of the TV - which is not acceptable by any means.
When I start the DVD on the Mac DVD-Player, there are no borders in windowed mode, but in full screen too.
It seems as iDVD 09 simply ignores the uncecked "scale..." preset box.
Can anyone confirm this, any suggestions? Setting up the slideshow in iDVD/iMovie itself is not an option here, hence my dad is still struggling to get things right in iPhoto

    Bengt Wärleby wrote:
If You select to play back in a smaller window eg cmd+2 or on a TV (4x3)

No, it's just in fill screen mode.
    Bengt Wärleby wrote:
This is not an iMovie or Apple problem but due to mixing 4x3 and 16x9 material
It's 2:3 Material (DSLR Pictures), so this won't help.
    Bengt Wärleby wrote:
You can try to make this the other way around. Start a WideScreen project and
now You will get the bordet around the 4x3 material instead.
Only solution is to crop or enlarg one of the material types to get it right.
As I stated before, there HAVE to be borders for the 2:3 Material on a 16:9 Screen (unless you do some heavy cropping). But I can see no reason why there should be borders on top/bottom of ANY material. As I see it, it's a problem related to a disfuncional "adjust for TV" setting, not the aspect ratio.
    Thanks anyway.
    Any other comments?

  • Premiere Elements 7: share/export DV-PAL in FLV/QT/WMV, black bars on top/bottom

During export (step "share", export for "PC" - sorry, if I use some wrong terms, got a german interface) of only DV-PAL video to FLV/QT/WMV there are always black bars on top/bottom of the video and the picture is wrong in aspect ratio. I can't help.
I tried different resolutions (original 720x576, 502x402, 320x240) and, as only possible with QT/WMV, different pixel aspect ratios (PARs), even user-defined PARs and 'wrong' aspect ratios (like 512x402). No chance. (I think precise user-defined data like "1,094" is not possible, because results did not change anyhow and this value is shown as "1".) With e.g. QT, 640x512, PAR 1,067 there are black bars with 6 px each.
My project settings must be correct I think: DV-PAL, 720x576, 4:3, 25 fps.
DV-PAL- and MPEG-Export/Share is no problem.
As a workaround I export DV-PAL and convert with XMediaRecode to FLV. But I want direct and clean export with PrEl. That's what I bought it for recently.
I wonder why there are only NTSC-setting suggested in FLV-share. I have to change the size by myself.
And I wonder why Wikipedia says PAR for DV-PAL is "1,0940" and Premiere says "1,067".
I'm new to Premiere Elements 7 (although I got some experience with Premiere 5/6.5, FinalCut, Cinelerra ...) using Windows XP.

I posted two videos on muvipix.com:
WMV cable modem settings PrEl (without audio, fps like original)
Strange: in VLC media player there are bars on the left and right (and slight faded bars on top/bottom - hope you can see) and in muvipix.com and Media Player Classic there are bars at top/bottom
    http://muvipix.com/cpg/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=17219&pos=0
    http://muvipix.com/cpg/albums/userpics/17219/Unbenannt.wmv
FLV (no resize, without audio, fps like original)
black bars on top/bottom, but only slight in Media Player Classic
    http://muvipix.com/cpg/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=17219&pos=1
    http://muvipix.com/cpg/albums/userpics/17219/Unbenannt.flv
I had to deactivate sound because this is Creative Commons stuff and I don't want to give credits. And I changed fps to "like original" because 30 fps as standard in PrEl is wrong. It's PAL here.
    Thanks for your efforts.

  • FF is "always on top" occasionally

For the past coupla iterations of FF I've been having this occasional problem: FF remains "always on top" of my windows, even if others are highlighted, even over my Win taskbar, which is set to auto-hide and locked. I usually drop my cursor down to the bottom of the page to pop up the taskbar, but now I have to hit the winkey. Once I get FF minimized, things are fine. If this occurs I close all tabs, flush the cache, then reboot FF; problem fixed.
I have FF 22.0 on an HP p6720f running under Win7 Home Premium x64.

I've seen previous support questions with similar problems where switching into fullscreen mode and then out again would fix the problem. Maybe try that next time as well.
If none of this solves the problem then I would try troubleshooting in [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode|Safe Mode]] and failing that do a [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems | Reset]].
    I hope that helps.

  • JWindow - always on top

I've got a JWindow which appears always on top - not just of other Java windows but of any window in the window manager, but I'd prefer it to be always underneath or at least behave normally. All I seem to get from Googles is cases where people are trying to get this behaviour but can't because this kind of thing is supposed to be platform specific and out of Java's control?!
This seems to happen in Gnome 2.8 and Openbox on Linux so I'm presuming it's not specific to a single WM. Any (constructive!) suggestions appreciated :)

    Copied from the javadocs:
"Note: some platforms might not support always-on-top windows. There is no public API to detect if the platform supports always-on-top at runtime."
