OpenGL ES colors different in simulator and device

I have an iPhone app that uses openGL ES. My colors and textures are fine when I build and run in the simulator, but when put on my device (iPod Touch), most colors turn to a shade of grey. Some colors, like a pure yellow comes through, and one texture looks like it is there, but other colors and textures are all greyshades.
I have changed the code (from the sprite example, where all the openGL code was pulled for the starter code):
eaglLayer.drawableProperties = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys:
[NSNumber numberWithBool:FALSE], kEAGLDrawablePropertyRetainedBacking, kEAGLColorFormatRGBA8, kEAGLDrawablePropertyColorFormat, nil];
to use the kEAGLColorFormatRGB565 color depth, with no affect, still mostly greys except one solid yellow and one texture.
Anybody have any thoughts on where I should look?
Thanks in advance for any info.

Same here. I like the Fade In and Out. Is this not possible to get this on the real device?

  • Animation different in simulator and device?

    Hi,
I have an application that uses the UIViewAnimationCurlUp and UIViewAnimationCurlDown that in the simulator appear to be like a fade in and fade out.
However, when I test my app in the device (iPod Touch) the animation is not like in the simulator. It plays as if a page is passed from the bottom right corner to the upper left corner and back. Is there another animation that does the fade in / fade out animation like in the simulator?? Any help appreciated,
    Thanx

  • Can I use 1 computer with 2 different iTunes accounts and devices? We're afraid we're going to wipeout one library or the other if we do??

My son got an iPhone and wanted his own iTunes account. Now his computer died, and he wants to connect to his iTunes account on my computer. When it asks to sync the computer, a message comes up and we're afraid either his or my library are going to be wiped out by trying to do this. Is it possible to use 1 computer with 2 different iTunes accounts and devices without wiping out one of the libraries? Thanks for any info.

If the content was not originally purchased/synced to the device from your computer it will erase and replace the content from the device with that of the computer. If you have content that you want to backup you can transfer purchases http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1848 check this link out

  • Why are kuler colors different to Photoshop and Illustrator?

When I make some colours in kuler, I get RGB and CMYK numbers for them.
When I enter the RGB into Photoshop I get different CMYK values.
When I enter the CMYK into Illustrator, I get different RBG values.
    Which do I believe??
I guess that this must be something to do with colour profiles. Can anyone advise please?
    Thanks
P.S. I did ask this before in the kuler forum but that forum is very quiet .

I'm 'happy' with the idea of colour spaces. But does anyone know what colour space kuler is working to when it translates rgb - cmyk? I can't seem to see that anywhere, or how to change it.
If you can't change it, it's worthless! You have to specify both the RGB color space and CMYK color space only after which you get the CMYK values you need. Alter either description and you'll end up with different values.

  • Color Different on MBP and Cinema Display

I have a problem I am so far not able to resolve. I have a new 2008 MBP 17" with an Apple Cinema Display hooked up to it. The color on the MBP is nice and seems "right". The color on the Cinema Display is brighter - so much so that is not very good for using an application like Aperture, where a second monitor would be a great asset.
I have tried adjusting the calibration on both screens but can not get the two screens to match up even reasonably well. I now have the calibration set to "Color LCD" on the MBP and "Cinema HD" on the Cinema Display but the Cinema display is till unnaturally bright. Reds are WILD and skin tones are more "orangey" and "pink".
I am not a color calibration expert and am somewhat at a loss here.
Does anyone have any info on a solution to this somewhat annoying problem? Is there a piece of equipment out there that does a good job and is reasonably priced? My concern is that any photos I print do not come out shockingly bright.
    Thanks in advance.

Don't let your eyes deceive you. While the MacBook Pro has one of the best laptop displays out there, no laptop display matches even the midrange desktop displays. An objective test will show that the Cinema Display absolutely blows away the MacBook Pro display after proper calibration. Read this article for tests and explanations about the MacBook Pro display in a professional context.
One of the key ideas is that it how "right" the color looks to us is not a reliable way of determining if the colors are actually accurate.

One of the things you'll learn as you study color management is that most monitors have a maximum brightness that is far too high for calibrated work. For proper blacks and white, and especially if you hope to simulate paper well, when you run a hardware calibrator on your monitor you will usually be required to reduce brightness to somewhere in the lower quarter of its range.

Due to the very different capabilities of the two monitors, you'll find it difficult to impossible to get them consistent by eye. Partly because human eyes are adaptive and can't be sufficiently subjective. If you are serious about good color, your best bet is to invest in a good hardware calibrator (like the one in the linked article above) and let it calibrate both monitors to a known standard.

  • Background color different in firefox and IE

I am using dreamweaver cs5 and when I test my page in firefox, it is the color that I chose ( a pink color), but when i test it in internet explorer, it is black (this is the background color).  Does anyone know why this is happening and how to correct it?
Also, I made my page with tables and centered the table with no margins. well the page has a huge margin gap at the bottom in google browser, but it is fine in IE and firefox.  any suggestions?  Thanks.

Hi abdelahad, and welcome the the Dev Forum!
To install and test your app on the device, you need to be accepted into the iPhone Developer Program, which requires a $99 USD annual fee. Membership provides you with additional resources in addition to the documents necessary for testing on your device and uploading your finished app to the iTunes store. Go to [http://developer.apple.com/iphone/program> for more info.
Once you're accepted into the program, you'll have access to the program "Portal" where you'll find detailed instructions on how to download and install your private developer key, along with your certificate, and provisioning profiles.

  • Different Colors Out of Reader and Professional

I am printing out the same file to a Canon iR 4580i from Acrobat Reader and Acrobat Standard  and am getting different colors. I am using the same Driver with the same settings from each. I have replicated the same difference on totally different computers and networks and devices. This also happens on Windows versions.
It seems like output of Acrobat Pro is delivering RGB files to the print controller and the print controller is doing the RGB to CMYK conversion, however Acrobat Reader is delivering CMYK to the print controller and the print controller is not having to do a CMYK conversion.
I have played with some of the print driver settings with out any sucess.
The file has RGB images and pantone spot colors in it.
Any other suggestions to try? I have attached the file.

Why is that a plus? Because of no HDCP?
As far as setup - it was a BREEZE. OS X detected "SAMSUNG DLP" and gave me a sensible list of resolutions. I had to uncheck "Overscan" on another tab so that the dock and Finder menu were not chopped off. Actually, turning off overscan results in a slightly letterboxed (1/2" all around on a 50") picture but I am not sure this isn't fixable with a 3rd party utility...
Either way, video quality is quite good at 720p using VGA. I can't wait to see it (hopefully) with DVI at 1:1. At least I'm hoping that what I'm getting is 1:1 pixel mapping

You can sync as many devices as you want to the same iTunes account, there is no limit. You can have the same content on each device or different content, the choice is yours. iTunes will keep everything straight, by device, including separate backups. I'd suggest giving each device a unique name, to make things easier.

  • What is the best way to manage multiple devices with one iMac - different users with seperate itunes accounts or one mac user with different itune logons and libraries?

    Hello
I have just purchased an imac which I am very happy with.  In our household we also have two iphones (one mine and one husbands) and one ipod (my sons). We all have individual itunes accounts set up on our previous computer (not a mac). We have sepereate apps and music, although there may be the odd occasion where we would like to share a song (if this is possible) across devices.
I am just wondering the best way to manage these devices using the new imac.  Should I create individual accounts to logon to the imac, then from within these launch our own itunes accounts and sync our devices with these.  Or should I be using one version of itunes, logging on to this with our different itunes usernames and storing things in libraries.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

I am presuming that we cannot share downloaded apps and music between accounts because of the copyright issue,
Though I'm no copyright lawyer, as long as it's within a household, you can share content among users. Such sharing is, absent specific language preventing it not present in the iTunes Store terms of use, generally considered to be "personal use". So you can share apps and music amongst your users on your computer and with their devices. You just can't give any of that content to friends or relatives who don't live with you.
What I am not clear on, it making sure that this appears in each itunes account - is it easy to find the file storage folders that match the itunes accounts and what would these be?
The iTunes library and files are by default in a user's Home/Music folder. But you don't have to find the folder; in fact putting a file into the folder yourself won't add the file to iTunes. Just drag the file into the iTunes window. iTunes will copy it to the correct location.
    Regards.

  • Can you use 2 apple tvs on the same network with different apple ids and how would your devices know which apple tv to stream to?

    Hi,
I was looking into purchasing 2 apple tvs and was wondering if they can be setup with different apple ids. I need to have mine setup with my id and be able to hook my devices to it , but have the one in a bedroom hooked to a different apple id and have my friend's devices stream to that one and not mine.  Is this possible?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
In order that your Apple TV only streamed from your iTunes Library and your friends to your friends, you would both have to have different homesharing ID's.
So far as devices go, any device on a network can stream over AirPlay to an Apple TV, to ensure each of you couldn't stream to the others device you can enable a password via the Apple TV which would then need entering when you used a device for AirPlay.
Shouldn't be a problem to do what you want to do.

  • Pdf color looks different in preview and acrobat?

I notice that the colors in various PDF files I have look different in Preview and in Acrobat. Is there some weird color profile issue?
To be specific, I can create a PDF file in various ways, of a slide deck I originally created using Keynote. It has various different color blocks in the slides. In particular some acid green colors look very different depending on whether I open the PDF in Acrobat or in Preview.
Preview shows the colors as they were in the original keynote application. But Acrobat shows them far more muted.
I learned from another post that if I create the PDF by first saving to postscript and then creating the PDF using Acrobat, the issue seems to go away. However this is very inconvenient.
In short, it seems as though there is some peculiar difference between the way Preview and Keynote (and probably Pages ) handle color and the way Acrobat handles color.
Is there some way to fix this using some setting in one of the programs?
By the way, this is not a new problem. I noticed it with previous OS's as well as previous versions of Keynote. I am currently using the latest version of everything.

Same problem here. I was printing a PDF that my designer had sent me. Before I have always used Acrobat, but I've started using Preview in Leopard since it's faster and more powerful than before. But the colors were seriously wrong, often reversed completely. I believe this file was originally created in Illustrator.

  • ACR 4.3.1 and Olympus E-3: colors different

I am comparing the colors as output by ACR 4.3.1 (as used in LightRoom) and Olympus Studio 2 (the Olympus tool). The colors obtained by processing a RAW file in the two tools are noticeably different. Sometimes, LightRoom seems to produce more realistic colors; other times, the Olympus Studio colors are better. In particular, LightRoom colors are often too yellow-ish, while Olympus Studio colors have more intense (and occasionally exaggerated) reds.
Has Adobe performed calibration of ACR 4.3.1 for the Olympus E-3? With what target, maximum fidelity in color reproduction? Are there settings one can use in LR (and ACR 4.3.1) to obtain colors similar to the Olympus? I tried adjusting the settings in the Camera Calibration section, but with my limited technique I was not able to obtain a good match.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    All the best,
    Luca

That is to be expected. ACR uses a different methodology from other converters to produce its profiles.
This is the process if you are interested: http://inside-lightroom.com/profiling.php
For Calibration you might want to look at the Fors Script http://fors.net/chromoholics/index.php or the Rags Script http://www.rags-int-inc.com/PhotoTechStuff/AcrCalibration/ and also the original article by Bruce Fraser.
For colour profiles you might like to try Huelight as well http://www.huelight.com
