  • How to open a .MAT file in LABVIEW

    Hey everyone,
I currently have a .MAT image file which I would like to open in LABVIEW to apply some image filters. However, I am unsure as to how to open the .MAT file in LABVIEW. Ideally I would like to be able to open the .MAT file without using matlab, and it seems the only way to accomplish this task is through the mathscript node. I have attached an example of the image im trying to open, as well as the LABVIEW program which I would like to use on the image. Thanks for the feedback! =]

    Hi Boiler,
    1) Do you have a choice in the format you export your data from MATLAB?
    "ASCII Format
Complete the following steps if you want to import or export data between LabVIEW and the MATLAB® environment, the process is straightforward as long as you are using ASCII format.
From the MATLAB® environment to LabVIEW
To save a vector or a matrix Xin ASCII format with tab delimiter, enter the following in the command window or m-script file in the MATLAB® environment:
    >>SAVE filename X -ascii -double -tabs
This creates a file whose name is filename, and it contains the data X in ASCII format with a tab delimiter.
Import the file into LabVIEW using the Read From Spreadsheet File VI located on the Programming»File I/O palette.
    2) Have you tried using the mathscript node? Did you get any errors?
    "Binary Format
Complete the following steps if you want to import or export data between LabVIEW and MATLAB®.
From the MATLAB® environment to LabVIEW
To read a .mat file in LabVIEW would require a VI to parse the file. This may be easier if each variable is saved to a separate file.

Modifying an existing PDF file is several magnitues more complicated than creating one from scratch. The PDF standard is VERY complicated and contains a myriad of features with their specific syntax elements. In order to modify an existing PDF you have to be able to understand every syntax element that occures in the PDF, or you may end up corrupting the file.
When you create a new PDF you can pick out the syntax elements that your tool supports and forget about the 95 other procent.
There are many PDF Toolkits than can create PDF files, a few that can open PDF files and present them, and almost none that can edit them. The Adobe PDF Editor being one of the few that can do that, but nobody is going to give away such a Toolkit for free.

  • Opening a jar file

hey all, i only have one class that i want to make a jar file. i make sure the msdos prompt is focused on the right folder, and i use the following command line...
    jar cf writer.jar writer.class
it makes a jar file without any problems, but when i go to open the jar file, nothing happens. whats goin on? also, how would i go about creating a manifest file?

First of all, a useful tip: a JAR file is nothing more or less then a ZIP file, so you can use WinZip to open and edit it.
Second, you have to edit the manifest file in the created jar file. Open it with WinZip and add a line containting "Main-Class: com.test.TestClass", with offcourse your classname instead of "com.test.TestClass".
Then, last but not least, you have to open the JAR file with java.exe or javaw.exe. In windows (shift+)right click and select "open with". If you select the "always open with" checkbox, windows should remember that it has to open jar files with the particular exe. The difference between both is that javaw will not show a console, while java will.
    greetz.
if it is not completely clear, let me know.

  • Importing open source jar files

    Hi
I have written a program, a Java application (Prog 1), which uses some opensource jar files and it runs fine.
Now I am trying to create an applet (another program in same project) which will show the output from Prog 1 on a webpage.
But when I try to do this, the applet does not get loaded into the browser and shows me the (ClassNotFound) error that a class file which is in the open source jar file cannot be found.
why is this happening and what can be done?
    Please help.

... and what JAR is the class in, which it reportsas
The jar file is htmlparser.jar, but this file is
already added in the project classpath
No it isn't. The run-time "classpath" is specified by what you put in the <applet> tag. It has nothing to do with the classpath you specified at compile-time. You need to add htmlparser.jar to the "archive" entity.
    archive="YahooExt.jar,htmlparser.jar"
(if I have the correct separator, which I believe is a comma, according to this resource: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/misc/applet.html)
And of course htmlparser.jar needs to live on the web server, in the same directory as YahooExt.jar in the example above.

  • How to open an external file in Labview?

Hi, Who knows how to open an external file in LabView? I want to open an .UDL file(data link API) which is a dialog window letting me input correlated database information, but I dont know how to open this type of file in my LabView Program.
    Thanks.
    Red

A UDL is technically a text file, so you could open it with "Read Characters from file", put the result string into a string control, edit it and save it back using the "Write Characters to File".
UDLs however have their own configuration dialog embedded in the Windows OS. You can use this dialog in your LabVIEW application. The attached VI shows how to create a new UDL. You can edit an existing UDL by switching the method node to PromptEdit and wiring in an open ADO connection reference.

  • Why does TDM Importer start up when I open an Excel file in LabVIEW, and how can I stop it?

I have a new application using LabVIEW 2012 SP1.  I open an Excel file using the Report Generation toolkit and when I do so, a small TDM Importer window pops up on top of the Excel file.
    How can I prevent this?

    Hi Steve,
The TDM Importer pops up because the report generated in LabVIEW is in the TDMS file format.  TDMS is a binary file that requires an importer to make sense of the binary data and translate it into an Excel spreadsheet.  As per this white paper, the appearance of the floating toolbar is expected behavior:  http://www.ni.com/white-paper/5874/en/
To the best of my knowledge, you cannot get rid of the floating toolbar unless you uninstall the add-in, in which case you probably would not be able to open your LabVIEW-generated reports.  However, as of Excel 2007, the toolbar is embedded in the "Add-Ins" tab instead of floating on your spreadsheet.  You can see how the toolbar looks as of Excel 2007 in step 6 of this white paper:  http://www.ni.com/white-paper/5885/en/
If there is a way to embed the toolbar in Excel 2003, it would be the exact same way you would embed any other floating customer toolbar in Excel.  In other words, I don't think this has anything to do with the fact that it's NI's add-in.  This is just the way Excel 2003 and earlier treats add-in toolbars.  Someone on these forums may well know a way to embed it (perhaps a macro?), but you may have better luck contacting Microsoft.  I'm not sure whether it's even possible for a user to embed the toolbar.

  • How to open an excel file from labview?

I tried to use "open file" vi from File I/O -- Advanced file functions to open an excel file in LabVIEW. Why the excel file wouldn't open after I run the program?

In addition to ActiveX, you can also manipulate Excel data files using the Windows ADO interface - a technique that is more robust, faster and IMHO easier. Do a search on the forum as there have been several threads within the last week or so discussing this very thing.

  • Deleting a column in a text file using LabVIEW

    Hello all,
I'm trying to delete the first column of my tab delimited text file using LabVIEW and then save it under the same file name.  Can someone show me a quick way to perform this operation.  Is this even possible with LabVIEW?  Any help would be much appreciated.
My purpose is to automate this operation for hundreds of daily text files containing data that needs processing.  I'm currently using LabVIEW 8.2.
    Thanks!
    -noviceLabVIEWuser

If the file is relatively small:
Read the file using the Read from Spreadsheet File VI to get 2D array.
Remove the column from the 2D array.
Write out new 2D array to new file using Write to Spreadsheet File VI.
If the file is relatively large then you will likely run into memory issues. In this case you will need to read the file in chunks. You can decide how many lines to read at a time. Use a for-loop that's set to run for the number of chunks to read (based on the total number of lines and the number of lines you want to read at a time). Hint: Quotient & Remainder function. In the loop use the Read Text File VI to read your set number of lines. Convert the lines to a 2D array delete your column, and write out that chunk of data to the new file. Rinse and repeat.
