Opening an Access table in Oracle through ODBC

Hi all,
Is it possible to open a linked table (Access or similar, or any other ODBC accessible table), similar to how one can make an ODBC table accessible as a linked table within an Access database.
If not, is there an easy method to download an ODBC table into an Oracle table, other than through programming, i.e VB not SQL.
Thanks in advance.
David

Any luck? I want to do the same thing. I need to pull info out of an Access database and put it in Oracle and do not want to do a flat file transfer. I looked at the Gateways mentioned in the first response but, have not found one for Access.

  • Oracle access tables in SQLServer through Transparent Gateway

    HI,
    I want to access tables in SQLServer2000 through Oracle Transparent Gateway, but i could not get the resqult when I excute sql " select * from mytable@tg4msql".
    everthing seems all right and when i use " *tnsping tg4msql* ", it also return OK:
    Attempting to contact (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)

    OK (20 毫秒)
    but when i excute sql like " select * from mytable@tg4msql ", it does't return anything, just keeps quering till I kill my plsql.
    it seems oracle tries to connect to SQLServer through database link but fail.
    And i check Transparent Gateway debug log : ORACLE_HOME\tg4msql\trace\tg4msql_agt_964.trc,
    the log stops when it gets the logon name.
    thanks for answers~

  • Copy access tables to oracle

    Hi, I want to copy access tables to oracle database.
    Till now I have opened the connections to both of them.
    Can anyone explain me what are the next steps?
    Here is the code that I wrote till now:
    String connString = "User Id=******* ;Password=******* ;Data Source=******* ";
    String connString2= " Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=E:\\temp.mdb" ;
    OracleConnection oraConnection = new OracleConnection(connString);
    DbConnection accessConnection = new OleDbConnection(connString2);
    // openning the oracle connection
    try
    oraConnection.Open();
    Console.WriteLine("\nHello, Oracle Here!\n");
    Console.WriteLine("Connection String: ");
    Console.WriteLine(oraConnection.ConnectionString.ToString() + "\n");

    Hi Peter,
    Thanks for the feedback.
    I have replicated the issue also.
    Basically Dutch is not a supported language in SQL Developer.
    SQL Developer fell back on English as the default , but obviously this component, the Apply Button, has an issue.
    Your workaround is correct as it specifically tells SQL Developer to run English rather than waiting for it to fall back to the default language.
    Thanks,
    Dermot.

  • Data in access tables to oracle tables

    Hi
    I want to load data from MS Access tables to oracle tables .
    Can any on help me to in this
    regards
    rajesh

    If you only want to export a few tables from Access to Oracle once, I would suggest to use the export functionality of MS Access. To do this you need to install an Oracle Client and further use ODBC to export the data/tables to your Oracle database.
    To avoid failures concerning the datatype transformation, I suggest to use the Oracle ODBC driver.

  • How i can load excel sheet into a table in oracle through pl/sql procedure

    Hi,
    How i can load excel sheet into a table in oracle through pl/sql procedure or a pl/sql block. Excel sheet is saved on my c or d drive on my machine. In xls format.

    Depending on how big your spreadsheet is and how frequently you want to do this you might want to contruct insert statements in excel, then run these. I have done this to load a few hundred rows for a one off test on dev.
    e.g. if you have values 1 and 'a' in you spread sheet and want to insert them in to table xxx col1 & 2:
    | /|   A   |   B   |    C
    |1 |col1   |col2   |
    |2 |      1|a      |="insert into xxx ("&$A$1&","&B1&") values ("&A2&",'"&B2&"');"then paste the contents of colum C
    insert into xxx (col1,col2) values (1,'a');into sqlplus or a script.

    Hi Arik,
    Thanks for the reply. I got the solution by configuring a NonXA data source. The problem was with internal commits of the fnd_global.initialize api.
    If the DB adapter is calling aPL/SQL procedure (written inside a pakcage) using the data source configured to support XA, will expect not to have any commits in side the procedure or anywhere, the XA driver will take of the commits and whole transactions. By default the FND_GLOBAL.INITIALIZE(...) procedure will have the internal commits, so it was throwing the errors.
    The solution was configuring the a NonXA Data source in the databae adapter configuration will allow the commits inside the callings procedures. So we created Two data sources one for XA and another for NonXA and we are using the NonXA datasource whereever we are calling the EBS APIs which have the internal commits.

  • Migration of Microsoft Access Table in Oracle XE

    i've got a MS Access DB with a table with over 50k rows in it. I need to transfer the data to my Oracle XE. I tried to use the "Quick Migration" option of SQL Developer but that won't work. I also extracted the data of the MS Access table into an insert script. Unfortunately the insert script is too big for SQL Developer, I just can't believe it.....
    Do you know how to solve this problem?
    Thanks in advance!

    No prob, should be a sqlplus program button under the Oracle group, or do the Start/Run ... and type in cmd (windows) and sqlplus in the command box.
    May have to poke around a bit find out which database user to sign in as, best not to use sys or system users for regular data/tables.

  • Problems accessing tables in oracle database with ejb entity bean

    I have created a simple server application that uses an entity bean (version 2.0) for an existing table in oracle database, and a session bean that is used as an outside interface for performing operations on that table.
    after deploying the server and client application the client attempts to perform an operation with the session bean remote interface it obtained.
    The session bean uses a locale interface to communicate with the entity bean, but when it tries to use its methods (create, findByXXX) it always get the following Exception: java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist.
    the table of course exists, and the username password I'm using has all the permissions needed for this table.
    note - I'm using the Forte enterprise edition 4.0 as developer tool.
    I'll be glad to get some help.

    Well it seems like the problems has a simple explanation. The Forte assigns a default table name (<entityName>EJBTable) when creating an entity bean from an existsing table in DB (which is not the same as the one it was created from !!!). Also, for reason unknown, when you deploy these entity beans, it doesn't even create the new table under its new name (even if instructed to).
    So using the Forte we managed to use successfuly only entity beans that were created "from scretch" (when deployed their tables are created).
    Does anyone know how to change the default name the Forte uses, and make it work properly with entity beans created from an existsing table (without going over the xml's) ?

  • Cannot connect to Oracle through ODBC.

    Please help, I don't know what else to try.
    I'm writing automated test scripts and frequently need to access the database to verify data values. These scripts run under multiple environments and have to validate several different flavors of database products. I use ODBC to establish the database connection and this works well under everything except the following environment:
    Database Host:
    Windows Server 2008, Standard Edition
    Oracle 10g
    Client:
    Windows Server 2008 Standard (64-bit)
    Oracle 11g client software installed.
    Following recommendations here on the Oracle site, I used the OUI to remove the Oracle ODBC driver that is installed with the client software and installed RDBODBC3320_x64.msi.
    I was unable to connect to the database at all using the Oracle 10g client software under this environment, but it is my understanding that Oracle 11g should work. I don't have much choice. The Oracle 10g client refused to install in this environment.
    I am able to create a DSN for the database using the ODBC Data Source Administrator. I specify the configuration correctly, but when I try to test the connection, it returns the error:
    FAILED: Service Connection test
    rc=-1
    SQLState=08S01
    [Oracle][ODBC][Rdb] Connect Ret -1 Err# 10061
    WSAECONNREFUSED Connection refused
    I interpret this to mean that I'm reaching the server and database, but it isn't recognizing the connection as being from a legitimate account. Am I wrong?
    From this client machine, I am able to connect to and query the database using SQLPlus, so it isn't that the database is unavailable from the test machine.
    On the host server, I am able to create an ODBC configuration that tests successfully. That is, of course, the 10g version of the ODBC driver.
    I hope someone can supply an answer, this is a high visibility item that is making me look foolish.
    Thanks,
    Dave P.

    Hi Dave,
    It's difficult to make decent recommendations without knowing for sure even what kind of database you're connecting to, or what issues you're having exactly. "No success with the 64 bit flavor" doesn't provide much info to go on.
    Here's the bullet points that will hopefully get you working, assuming you're connecting to "regular" oracle and that this whole RDB thing was a wild goose chase. If you're actually connecting to an RDB database, skip all the steps below and go post in the RDB forum to get their advice. If you're not sure what the difference is, or what you're connecting to, ask someone who knows.
    *1)* Are you ultimately trying to connect with a 32 bit app or a 64 bit app, from the 64 bit 2008 box?
    - What kind of "scripts" are you writing? VBSscript you're executing from a DOS prompt? If so, how are you invoking it exactly? Just by typing filename.vbs?
    - Are the scripts running with 32bit cscript.exe or 64 bit cscript.exe?
    The bottom line is that 32 bit apps need 32 bit client software, and 64 bit apps need 64 bit client software, and you need to have the right stuff installed. The first thing you need to figure out is whether you're running 32 bit app or 64 bit process. Usually you can open Task Manager and look for the process name in the Process tab; if there's a *32 next to it, it's 32 bit. Otherwise it's 64 bit.
    *2)* Once you determine what bitness the software you're running is, you then need to download and install that bitness of Oracle client software. You can get 11.2.0.1 here:
    32 bit 11.2 client:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/downloads/112010-win32soft-098987.html
    64 bit 11.2 client:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/downloads/112010-win64soft-094461.html
    *3)* After downloading the client.zip and extracting it, run setup.exe, take the defaults, chose Custom install type, select ODBC driver and SQLPlus from the list, and the installer will automatically install the Oracle software as well.
    Note: You could use Instant Client for this as well; but you'll have to download and install SQLPlus and the ODBC driver in addition to the instant client itself, and using the OUI and the Full client installation is "easier" as it doesn't require manual installation like Instant client does, so less error prone.
    *4)* Configure tnsnames.ora for that install so the client knows where you want to connect to, test it using sqlplus from that install location to make sure you have it right.
    *5)* If you want to configure a 32 bit dsn, you need to use the 32 bit administrator ( c:\windows\syswow64\odbcad32.exe).
    64 bit dsn's you configure via c:\windows\system32\odbcad32.exe (or via control panel > odbc administrator).
    *6)* Run your app, hopefully you're dialed.
    *7)* Profit.
    Hope it helps,
    Greg

    You can save those tables as CSV. If it is not possible from Access (Generally from File menu then export) copy the rows, paste in excel and then save CSV.
    After that you have to use SQL* Loader to load them.
