Opening an EXCEL on client side

Hi,
I have an "EXCEL" file on server side and I need to open or save it on client side through jsp. How can I achieve this.
If anyone knows please give me a reply on, how to open a server side EXCEL file on client side.
Thank you.

Thanks for your reply.
I tried with this also, but it is not working.The code I gave should just work. You're the first one who said that it doesn't. Probably you changed one bit too much or are doing other things wrong.
Here is the code:
http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5205333&tstart=0
That's poor coding. This won't work in all clients (the contentlength is missing), this may perform slow (no memory buffering used), this is not reuseable (filepath and filename are hardcoded), this won't work in UNIX environments (c:, what is that?), you're leaking resources by not closing the streams and finally the exception trace is suppressed (bad practice).

    Hi,
    Is there any method to Import and Export to Excel from the Client side. I have one procedure to export to Excel , but the excel file will be opened in the Application Server only, even if it executed from the client side. Also this procedure will not work if OLE2 chnaged CLIENT_OLE2. I am writing my procedure, Is there any idea to get it in the client side.

    Alternatively you could use OLE2 to do the bulk of the importing and exporting and then use the webutil file transfer functions to move the file to the client and then simply open the file there...That might be more efficient in terms of performance as well.

  • Open Oracle Form in client side from BPEL Process

    Hello,
    I'm new in BPEL and I'm trying to do a Process who open a Form before it finish. I do that with a Java embedding with the next code:
    try {
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec("rundll32.exe url.dll,FileProtocolHandler http://dl380:8890/forms/frmservlet?config=atender&otherparams=CLIENTE="+variable );
    } catch (Exception e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    But this code open a form in the server side and I need that it be open in the client side. Someone know what's can I do?
    I hope you help me in this!
    Thanks in advance!
    Alejandra

    Hi Sreedhar,
    Probably there are simpler options, but one thing you can do is to create a new function in Oracle to access the same form (Service Contracts Authoring), and include this in the Form Parameters:
    QUERY_ONLY="YES"
    That will make the function read only (in theory). Now you can call that function from the OAF Page instead of OKS_OKSAUDET.
    Hope it helps.

  • Can I open a recordset On Client Side Script?

    Hi Guys,
    On a form I have a client side VBscript thet checks the email
    addy a user has added into a text box in a form and if its in the
    array of values set in the script it gets refused. This works.....
    I would like to adapt this a little if possible and make it
    so that instead of hardcoding the array values into the script, I
    would like to have the array values taken from a recordset because
    it will allow the user to add and delete bad domains via a form and
    not need to go into the page code to add to the array I have at the
    moment.
    I have tried serval times to replace my array loop with a
    recordset while loop to get the badDomains from the field in the
    database but I just get script error on page in my task bar.
    Can I open a recordset from a client side script?
    Id apprecaiate eny thoughts on how I can do this.
    Thanks again

    Hi Envision,
    Its actually VBScript im in at the moment...
    I have tried to get my client script to run but im still just
    not getting it although I dont think im far away, mixing client
    side and server side scripts to get this array loaded is still
    throwing me a bit !!!!!!
    I tried to follow the For loop suggested in JS but did it in
    VBS and wondered if anyone could give it a look and point me to my
    errors?
    I dont like just posting code without being asked as its a
    bit presumptious of me but Im not asking anyone to write this for
    just point me to my problems hopefully.....
    Here is what I have , when the page loads I used DW to make a
    recordset for me to open the table with stored bad domains and this
    client script is supposed to harness the recordset created server
    side by DW and loop through the field and compare whats in the
    forms email textbox..
    [code]
    Sub CheckMail()
    Dim sValidationMessage
    Dim sEmail
    Dim sBadDomains()
    Dim nIndex
    dim counter
    sValidationMessage = ""
    sEmail = Document.Form2.email.value
    nIndex = 0
    counter =<%=(rsGetBadDomains_total)%>
    If Not (InStr(1, sEmail, "@") > 0 And InStr(1, sEmail,
    ".") > 0) Then
    sValidationMessage = "You have entered an invalid email
    address!"
    End If
    If Len(sValidationMessage) = 0 Then
    For nIndex = 0 to counter
    sBadDomains(nIndex) =
    <%=(rsGetBadDomains.Fields.Item("sBadDomains").Value)%>
    If InStr(1, sEmail, sBadDomains(nIndex)) > 0 Then
    sValidationMessage = "You have entered an unsuitable E-Mail
    address please use your main ISP E-Mail address"
    Exit For
    End If
    nIndex=nIndex+1
    Next
    End If
    If Len(sValidationMessage) > 0 Then
    MsgBox sValidationMessage
    document.Form2.email.select
    Else
    document.Form2.submit()
    End If
    End Sub
    [/code]
    Thanks again for all the support so far.

    Hello,
    _Pls follow these guide lines for ensuring proper output in Microsoft Excel:
    1.First compare the fields properties and the frames properties between the reports created with wizard and the reports created manually.
    2. Do not leave any space between two adjacent objects.
    Explanation: Because any space, including a few pixels, between two adjacent objects will result in an empty cell or column in Excel output
    3.Make sure that the widths of all objects are vertically consistent.
    Explanation: If the objects are not exactly aligned vertically, that is, have inconsistent widths, it is likely to result in insertion of unwanted cells/columns in Excel.
    4. Pls. Make sure that the vertical elasticity of the frames and repeating frames is not fixed unless you are sure you have allocated enough space to accommodate all the records.
    Explanation: If you set the Vertical Elasticity property of a frame to Fixed, the output in Excel will show only as many records as could appear on the first page of the paper output. Since Excel does not have a page concept, it is not able to overflow the remaining rows to the next page.
    5. For reliable formatting of spreadsheet output, enclose the whole layout area in a frame.
    Explanation: This action prevents the possibility of parallel objects displaying in different vertical positions, one following the other.
    Hope this helps.

    Alex

  • Port on client side

    Hi all,
    I am inside a very restricted network, and I have to stablish a jdbc connection. I know which ports to be used on server side, but I am interested on which ports should be open on client side. I need communicate this info to the network administrators and they with infinite misericorde open this ports on the firewall for that job.
    I could aprecciate your help.
    Thanks

    Is your server on Windows or unix platform?
    If on Windows, you must first ensure Oracle listener will not redirect traffic to other ports on server side as well.
    set
    'USE_SHARED_SOCKET = TRUE', in the Windows registry under
    hkey_local_machine\Software\Oracle\.
    As far as which port is open on client side is beyond Oracle's control. My guess is client will use which ever port available randomly. If your system admin only open limited ports on client side, Oracle will be forced to use the ports.
    However, if network security is major concern, consider use technology like stunnel
    http://www.stunnel.org/examples/oracle.html

  • Opening a Java Window from a jsp page on the client side

    Hi all,
    Thanks in advance to all who could help me for this problem.
    I've written some jsp pages. In one of them, I open a new Java Window,
    which is a simple Java Frame. If I test this directly on the Tomcat
    server, everything works well.
    But when I call the jsp page through a web browser of a distant client
    (normal use), and when I want to see the java window, no window pops
    up. It appears that the Java Window pops up on the server, and not on
    the client side, which is what I wanted.
    Could someone tell me how to make the Java frames appear on the client
    side ? (Is it linked to the code or to the configuration of Tomcat ?)
    Thanks in advance,
    Alexis.

    JSP always run on the server. On the client you only see the results.
    But you can use applets on the client side: http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/components/applet.html

The goal here is to set up Deploy Studio for our organization, which I had working for a little while until this little guy started rearing his ugly head.
    Thanks much-

    Dear cdolan92,
    not really. It has been a while. I think I also deleted server.app and admin tools and reinstalled those.
    Perhaps I even did a backup of open directory and turned off the master to local and back to master.
    But I am not sure any more.

  • Open/read a txt file on the client side in a Form server architecture

    We are moving our software from client-server to Web architecture but we have problems
    with all the forms that use GET_FILE_NAME and
    TEXT_IO built-in functions.
    This commands, in fact, work on the application-server side and not on the client (browser-side) as we need.
    How can we solve this problem??????
    Thank-you for your help.
    null

    there is a way to solve this problem.
    you must use developer 6 and above.
    you will have to modify your appliaction and use developer ability to work with javabeans
    you will have to write a javabean that will do the read/write operation at the client side.
    for more details look at my answer to the following topic:
    "Read and Write Files to user from FormsServer "
    that was opened at dec 15.

  • Opening an excel file on server side using servlets

    hi, am having a small problem for launching an excel file. Standalone,
    i use
    Desktop.getDesktop().open( new File("C:/test.xls") );
    and it works fine but when using servlets via tomcat, it does not launch. Any idea?
    actually am using ajax to allow a user to remotely launch an excel
    file (the excel file contains a macro which will generate and save a
    chart as image) on the server.

    Do you realize that this will only open that Excel file at the Server machine, not at the Client machine? If you're testing (read: acting as Client) at the same machine as where the Server runs, then you will see the result of Desktop#open(). But if you're testing at a different machine (read: as in the real world) than where the Server runs, then you won't see the result of Desktop#open(), because this is executed at the Server machine itself, not at the Client machine.

  • Open a browser window at client side

    Hi All,
    I have to open up a new browser window at the client side when a user clicks on a button.
    What are the possible ways to do this, and what is the recommended way of doing this taking into consideration the browser dependencies.
    I tried with giving a destination as http;//google.com to <af:goLink > with _blank  targetFrame.
    Can you please proved some links that can help me in doing the best possible way.
    Regards,
    ND

    Hi,
    it depends on what the use case is: Do you want to open a page of the application in a separate window or do you want to open a browser window that does not belong to the application itself ? Options you have are
    i) goLink with targetFrame = _blank (as you guessed)
    ii) issue JavaScript from Java that invokes window.open on the client (works with all browsers)
    iii) Use the dialog framework navigating with dialog:navigation-case and the command button setting to useWindow = true (Use it to open pages of the application in a dialog)
    iv) Use af:popup for dialogs that open as part of a page. (Use to show additonal information like list of values)
