Opening nxt-g vi files in labview

Hey all,
Is it possible to open nxt-g vi files in labview? I'm using LV8.5 student edition, Errors (attached image of error message).
I'm specifically interested in how to communicate with the nxt 2 rgb light.
Cheers
Nick

Hey Nick,
If you are still having trouble opening that VI, check out this Knowledgebase discussing some additional avenue for seeking support for your NXT. In that knowledgebase, there is a link to"LabVIEW Add-ons for LEGO® MINDSTORMS® NXT" Do you have this toolkit installed? It could be a matter of simply installing this toolkit.
Hope this helps.

  • Opening a java jar file through a labview program

    Hello,
I need to open a java jar file in labview........this jar file is a GUI with multiple frames and has buttons on each frame help navigate through between frames....i just require the program to open it and close it based on some signals so then i won't have to do it manually

LabVIEW doesn't have any control over what happens in a system exec, as you give the control to the system. You can, however, check the process list through .NET commands and kill the process (You should be able to stop it through "taskkill /F /im java.exe"). Not the prettiest solution, but should work.

  • How to open a .MAT file in LABVIEW

    Hey everyone,
I currently have a .MAT image file which I would like to open in LABVIEW to apply some image filters. However, I am unsure as to how to open the .MAT file in LABVIEW. Ideally I would like to be able to open the .MAT file without using matlab, and it seems the only way to accomplish this task is through the mathscript node. I have attached an example of the image im trying to open, as well as the LABVIEW program which I would like to use on the image. Thanks for the feedback! =]

    Hi Boiler,
    1) Do you have a choice in the format you export your data from MATLAB?
    "ASCII Format
Complete the following steps if you want to import or export data between LabVIEW and the MATLAB® environment, the process is straightforward as long as you are using ASCII format.
From the MATLAB® environment to LabVIEW
To save a vector or a matrix Xin ASCII format with tab delimiter, enter the following in the command window or m-script file in the MATLAB® environment:
    >>SAVE filename X -ascii -double -tabs
This creates a file whose name is filename, and it contains the data X in ASCII format with a tab delimiter.
Import the file into LabVIEW using the Read From Spreadsheet File VI located on the Programming»File I/O palette.
    2) Have you tried using the mathscript node? Did you get any errors?
    "Binary Format
Complete the following steps if you want to import or export data between LabVIEW and MATLAB®.
From the MATLAB® environment to LabVIEW
To read a .mat file in LabVIEW would require a VI to parse the file. This may be easier if each variable is saved to a separate file.

  • Can I open a excel file from labview

I have a program who write temperature in a excel file and i want to open this file from labview .

This depends slightly on the amount of data you have stored within Excel.
You can use the "Labview Functions>>FileIO>>Read from Spreadsheet file.vi" which effectively reads all lines from a text file and converts it into a numeric array.
Alternatively, if your data structure in Excel is more complex than this, you can use ActiveX calls to Excel to retrieve it.
Use an "ActiveX>>Automation Refnum" control and select the Excel server class. This will then enable you to access properties and methods of Excel to retrieve data from specific cells and pages.
    The attached example should help.

  • How to open multiple files in Labview?

I want to open multiple files in labview by selecting multiple files, then read them? Can I do this in Labview 7.0?

You can use the vi example here to get multiple names:
    http://exchange.ni.com/servlet/ProcessRequest?RHIVEID=101&RPAGEID=137&HOID=506500000005000000C7640100&HTHREAD=000091335&UCATEGORY_0=_49_%24_6_&UCATEGORY_S=0
Once you have the file names, you can use a for loop w/ a Read/Open file vi to open all the files.

  • How to open labVIEW 8 file in LabVIEW 7.1

    Hi
I want to open a LabVIEW 8 file into LabVIEW 7.1 version? when i tried to open there is an error appiers and I couldnt open it so please give suggestion how to open it..
    Thank you

If you open the vi with a higher version of LV and save it, you can't open it with the earlier version, as I said before, because the vi is no backward compatible.
What you could do is open the vi with LV8.0 and browse the menu to File >> Save for Previous Version. Then just follow the instructions given on the dialogs.
    Using LV8.0

  • How to open an external file in Labview?

Hi, Who knows how to open an external file in LabView? I want to open an .UDL file(data link API) which is a dialog window letting me input correlated database information, but I dont know how to open this type of file in my LabView Program.
    Thanks.
    Red

A UDL is technically a text file, so you could open it with "Read Characters from file", put the result string into a string control, edit it and save it back using the "Write Characters to File".
UDLs however have their own configuration dialog embedded in the Windows OS. You can use this dialog in your LabVIEW application. The attached VI shows how to create a new UDL. You can edit an existing UDL by switching the method node to PromptEdit and wiring in an open ADO connection reference.

  • Passing files into labview vi by opening the file

I have a labview exe that is installed on XP that can create/save files with an extension not recognized by windows. The files can be opened from within the exe but what I want is to double click(open) the file from explorer/desktop and have it opened in my vi. I know how to associate the file with windows so opening it will open the exe, but how do I pass this argument into my exe so my app can use it?

Us the "Application:command line" property, see attached code image.
When building the application, make sure to check "Pass all command line arguments to application" in the builder.
When your associated file is double-clicked, the application will open and have the file name of the double-clicked file as second element (#1) in the commandline array. (You can also drop any file on the application in explorer and it will open with the dropped file name in that position.)
Also check the online help under index: "Command Line Arguments (Application property)"

  • Error 7 when opening file running LabVIEW 2010 executable

I am using Open/Create/Replace File in LabVIEW 2010 to open a text file.  This works fine until I compile the code.  I then get Error 7. I have tried paths that look like the following but none work.
    c:\<directory name>\file.txt
    c:\<application name.exe>\file.txt
    c:\<application.exe>\<directory name>\file.txt
    Thanks

You have to get the path to the folder of the .exe.  Then strip off the .vi name and the .exe name.  Then Build onto the path from there to get to your .txt file.  The way you have it, you are treating the .exe as a folder rather than a file.  The text file is not part of the .exe, so you can't create a path that includes the .exe name.

  • How to open an excel file from labview?

I tried to use "open file" vi from File I/O -- Advanced file functions to open an excel file in LabVIEW. Why the excel file wouldn't open after I run the program?

In addition to ActiveX, you can also manipulate Excel data files using the Windows ADO interface - a technique that is more robust, faster and IMHO easier. Do a search on the forum as there have been several threads within the last week or so discussing this very thing.

  • Print text file with labview 2011 and windows 7

I am having some strange problem, hope someone out there knows the solution.
We have a labview program running under windows xp, the program runs some test and print label from a local label printer. Last week, I have to upgrade the computer to windows 7 and all the sudden the printer will not print any more.
The print vi is very simple. I am using the report function and I am attaching the diagram of that vi below.
If I use windows notepad to open that small text file, I can print fine. This means the printer driver itself is OK. However, if I print the same text file through Labview printing vi, from the printer's task list, I can see it does not recognize the char. From the attached png file, the top one is the task from notepad, it shows 2 pages and the bottom one is from the labview, it becomes 33 pages.
For the printer part, I use Generic / Text Only printer driver which comes from windows itself. And I am aslo attaching a sample of the text file, there are quite a lot of special char, it is for print bar code. When I tried to use labview print text vi to print general text from my computer to a regular printer, the vi works. So it seems Labview print can not handle the special char? Although it worked many years under windows XP in the past.
    Welcome to any suggestions!
    Thanks

where to check RAW or TEXT? the print report vi only asks for file name and printer name.
When I print from notepad, everything just goes by default. This is a label printer, so I never need to specify printing parameter such as size, orientation, etc in the past
Famous last words go something like this: "...never had to do that before."  Maybe you have to do that now.  It's worth at least comparing the defaults settings for bothe generic drivers.  It could save you a lot of headache if you notice something different.

  • How to open a specific excel file by activex & overwrite by set_cell_value.vi

I've seen the 'Write Table and Chart to XL.llb', but how can i open an existing excel file/workbook/sheet and rewrite some of the data instead of open a new worksheet everytime? It may already shown in your examples somewhere, but since I'm new to activex/property node stuff, I can't figure it out. Your help is appretiated.
    Thanks
    Anthony

The process is very similar. Starting with the example, open the diagram and you'll see a VI labled "Open Book" (The name of the VI is actually "Open New Workbook.vi". Right click on it and select Replace/Select a VI...
Now navigate to \\Labview 7.0\examples\comm\excelexamples.llb and select the file "Open Specific Workbook.vi". This VI has an input for specifying a filename to open.
Likewise, the example also calls a VI named "Open a New Worksheet.vi" replace that with "Open a Specific Worksheet.vi" (found in the same place).

  • Find names of all open windows including other applications besides LabView VIs

Hi All, I have researched this subject, i.e., to find names of all open windows including other applications besides LabView VIs, but found no solution. Could someone suggest a solution to this?  Thanks.

    Hi,
Certainly! The Windows API Function Utilities (32-bit) for LabVIEW includes set of LabVIEW libraries (llb) with VIs that make calls to the Windows Application Programming Interface (API) for managing and controlling windows (minimize, maximize, move, resize, rename, close, and so on) including task list with names of windows application running. The Readme.doc contains information on running these VIs.
Attached below is a zipped file with a VI that list the names of all opened windows.
