OpenJDK for PowerPC server development questions

Hello server experts,
Can you advise me, what is the best development environment/language for the PowerPC 7448 to make the server? The server should be normal http/XML webservice.
Hardware
The server HW is pretty limited and old: CPU: PowerPC 7448, Freescale, 2 cores of 1 GHz each RAM: 1 GB DISKS: 2x300 GB, 15000 rpm, SAS OS: Fedora 12 PPC
Performance & OpenJDK and Tomcat
We already checked Fedora 12, and OpenJDK is part of installation CDs, so we hope it should not be a problem in case that we can install it there. Tomcat will be installed after Java. Tomcat runs on Java and can run with 128M~256M, which should okay for the machine with 1GB memory. What are our performance requirements? We estimate maximum 200 clients with 10 requests/minute each. every request is max. 10 kB data. It gives us maximum ~30 requests per second. Postge SQL or mySQL should be used as well.
Others
The development environment should be stable and maintainable.
Does the Java Sun/Oracle support this platform? Can be Tomcat a way there? Or is the pure C++ server the best solution? Could some scripting (perl/python) be a possibility there with use of CGI and some tiny http server?

Petr

you can use the adminconsole or the PS commands to deploy & undeploy the portlets from the container.
Hope it helps you.

SrikanthHi Srikanth,
Thanks for your feedback. I now see that indeed my 1G is not enough. I already requested it to be extended with 1G (preferably 2G :0 ).
And I see that alas I need to use the adminconsole. Wonder how other developers handle this.

  • Can I use WindowsAzure NuGet package for Windows Server development?

Which Nuget package should I be using when developing a service that uses the Service Bus for Windows Server 1.1?
I've been using the 'ServiceBus.v1_1' package up to now, but on a whim tried using the 'WindowsAzure.ServiceBus' package and that appears to be working for a basic program:
    var namespaceManager = NamespaceManager.Create();
    var messagingFactory = MessagingFactory.Create();
    var sub = messagingFactory.CreateQueueClient("queue");
    sub.RegisterSessionHandler(typeof(MySessionHandler));
The reason I want to use this is as above - I want to use the RegisterSessionHandler feature to manage my sessions for me, but this functionality appears to be missing in the Service Bus 1.1 package.
If I avoid using the newer, unsupported Azure features, should I be safe using this package?

I can't speak to teh display quality of Office for Windows 2010 on a Retina display, but I'm successfully running Parallels 8 with Windows XP and Office 2010 - no problems with VBA at all.
But let's hear from the Retina owners - I wouldn't think that you'd have any problems.

  • Need Help for client - server - client question [Sockets]

    Hi
I have read the http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/networking/sockets/index.html tutorial and made this Knock Knock Application.
But now, I want that one client can view all the other clients which are connected to the server, and interract with a selected cleint over the server (client - server - client).
But I have no idea how to build such a registration concept?
A concrete hint (or link) how to realise this would be very helpful. I searched all the internet for examples, but I dont found a simple example.
    Thanks in advance
    greeds

    wSam,
It appears that Sun considers RMI to be simpler, although less efficient than the alternative:
    http://java.sun.com/developer/technicalArticles/ALT/sockets/
This article also talks about object serialization, which I am a fan of. Suppose that you want to send a data structure containing lots of information (like all connected users). You can actually pass an object (rather than text) across the network using ObjectOutputStream and receive it on the other end with ObjectInputStream. You might create your own Command class for passing objects between the client and server instead of using RMI. The Command class might hold flags that indicate which method should take place on the remote machine (i.e. send chess move command).

  • Questions for Content Server

    Dear All;
l have setup the Content server in Windows 2003 Standard Edition using the filesystem storage (not the MaxDB database), and the size of the document could be approximately 80GB (for the next few years), l didn't setup the Cache server.
All the attachment in the ECC will store into this External SAP Content Server.
    Question 1:
Can anyone advise whether the Content Server(filesystem) will be having performance issue while store/retrieve documents?  Is there any way to improve the performance of the Content Server?
    Question 2:
Security. what are the necessary security option that l need to configure for the Content server? at the moment, the Windows server still configure as full access for the Content Repository folder.  Otherwise the ECC will be having access denied problem when communicating with the Content Server.
    Question 3:
There are some attachment in ECC, how to l move those documents to Content Server?
    Please advise.
    Many thanks
    Jordan

When I say use certificates, there should be a checkbox with "check signature". This ensure that only sap machines with an active certificate can access the content server.
On the file system, I would ensure that no users have access to the file system through the backend. If they can modify documents, you will be sitting with major problems from a document integrity and legal perspective.
On the issue of migration, there is an oss note for the migration of data from one repository to another for archivelink.
    Check note number 1043676
    Symptom
You have created a new repository, and would like to migrate the ArchiveLink Documents to the new repository.
    Other terms
    Migration of documents, ArchiveLink, repository
    Reason and Prerequisites
This report helps migration of ArchiveLink documents.
To use this report effectively, you would need to ensure that you apply the note 732436. However, this note will allow the migration of documents from and to type of repositories which are supported by ArchiveLink. The types of repositories that are supported by ArchiveLink are HTTP, RFC and R/3 Database.
    Solution
Before you execute the report, you must set up a repository that can
store the documents (transaction OAC0). The repository may be in an
external archive(connected via  HTTP or RFC) or (as of Basis Release 6.10) in the OLTP database of the SAP system. You can also use SAP Content Server as an external archive for storing documents.
The report has the following parameters:
OLD_ARC ID of the old repository previously used
NEW_ARC ID of the new repository
TEST_RUN: If you enable this, only a test run occurs, copy of       documents does not occur.
DEL_FILE: If you enable this, then the files would be deleted from the old repository.
Launch the transaction SE38 and create a program with the name ZMIGRATE_ARCHIVELINK_FILES. Once the program is created, now copy the code from the correction instruction.

  • Presales questions for contribute server

Extremely frustrating just trying to get product info before  purchasing.
I called 888-649-2990 five times only to be  hung up on 3 times when selecting 1 then 4. When you press the other  option (number 2 on phone then number 3 for other products) for tech  support they say hang on and send you back to 888-649-2990.
I  finally get someone to explain that no presales support exists for  Contribute server other than these fourms. Is this true? Really?  Adobe...did you downsize to 10 staff?
Anyways, let's  start with "what does contribute server specifically provide that  Contribute alone doesn't?"

I presume you're referring to CPS (Contribute Publishing Server).  We have been using it since it first came out several years ago and have been relatively pleased with it overall.  I had expected Macromedia to do more with it as it has a huge potential to do much more, but they really didn't develop it.  I was hoping they would implement an automatic link & spell checker or somthing.  Now that it's in Adobe's hands, I really consider it a dead product.  In fact, it won't install on Windows Server 2008 without running the installer in compatibility mode.  It's still at version 1.11 and there hasn't been a release in about 5 years.
It's biggest benefit is not having to deal with connection keys.  People authenticate using their Windows domain credentials and it sets up the connection automatically.  It also sends me an email notification automatically when something gets published so I know to push it live from our staging server.  It also maintains a log of all activity and comments, but that usefulness has turned out to be minimal.
Now that CS5 supports subversion, the benefit of CPS really seems minimal since subversion can be configured to send email notifications.  Since I already have CPS, I'm eager to implement subversion along side it, but if that doesn't work, I won't hesitate to ditch CPS altogether.  At some point, CPS will be incompatible with a Windows release and I don't expect Adobe to do anything to fix it.
If you don't have to deal with administering tons of users, I don't think it's worth it.

  • For CF Server 9 developer win 64bit has the same running problems like 32bit, or more

    CFWACK8 reader:
Better install CF Server stand alone - so no need  Apache? For CF Server 9 developer windows 64bit has the same running  problems like 32bit, or more?
I have installed  http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-windows.html ..WAMPP, well Mysql  may used by this CF Server 9 developer, although book use Apache Derby  embedded to cf server?
CFEclipse plugin may installed either in my (separate) Flash Builder 4 or Eclipse Helios, or only to latter?

CF 9 64-bit will generally be your best choice on a 64-bit platform, unless you specifically require something that's not available in 64-bit, like COM.
For development, the built-in web server is fine. But if you want to learn how to manage a web server, it's good to install Apache and configure CF to use that.
You may use any SQL engine for which there are JDBC drivers, including MySQL. Apache Derby is used for demos, etc, because it's bundled with CF. You don't want to use it for real projects, though.
You can install CF Builder in any modern Eclipse, including Helios or Flash Builder. This is largely a matter of personal preference. I've encountered some features that don't work properly unless you let CF Builder install its own bundled Eclipse, but these are features that I don't use much anyway.

    # As to what is the best browser, it is subjective. I think it is the best, others will disagree. There is no special version for Windows Server 2003, the usual version works on it.

  • Question : Service Accounts for SQL Server 2012

    Hello,
I am planning to create AD accounts for SQL Server 2012 services that will be installed on Windows 2012 server.
    I was reading the following
Configure Windows Service Accounts and Permissions
    and
    Windows Privileges and Rights
Is there a recommendation / document that would list that assocation of SQL Server Services with Actvie Directory service accounts / privileges required for installation and starting the services.
Isn't it recommended to create separate account for every service and they should not be local accounts ?
Hope to hear soon as to what industry standards are being followed for production systems ?
Thank you very much in advance.
    Regards
    Nikunj

    From MSDN:
Each service in SQL Server represents a process or a set of processes to manage authentication of SQL Server operations with Windows. Each service can be configured to use its own service account. This facility is exposed
at installation. SQL Server provides a special tool, SQL Server Configuration Manager, to manage the services configuration.
When choosing service accounts, consider the principle of least privilege. The service account should have exactly the privileges that it needs to do its job and no more privileges. You also need to consider account isolation; the service accounts should
not only be different from one another, they should not be used by any other service on the same server. Do not grant additional permissions to the SQL Server service account or the service groups.
    From Glen Berry's Blog:
You should request that a dedicated domain user account be created for use by the SQL Server service. This should just be a regular, domain account with no special rights on the domain. You do not need or want this account to be a local admin on the machine
where SQL Server will be installed. The SQL Server setup program will grant the necessary rights on the machine to that account during installation.
You will also want a separate, dedicated domain user account for the SQL Server Agent service. If you are going to be installing and using other SQL Server related services such as SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS),
or SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS), you will want dedicated domain accounts for each service. The reason you want separate accounts for each service is because they require different rights on the local machine, and having separate accounts is both more
secure and more resilient, since a problem with one account won’t affect all of the SQL Server Services.
Depending on your organization, getting these domain accounts created could take anywhere from minutes to weeks to complete, so make sure to allow time for this. For each one of these accounts, you will need their logon credentials for the SQL Server setup
program. You are going to want to make sure that the accounts don’t have a temporary password that must be changed during the next login. If they are set up that way, make sure to change them to use a strong password, and record this information in a secure
    location.

  • SQL Developer 2.1.0.63 - Export Data menu missing for SQL Server databases

    Hi
The Export Data menu only appears for Oracle databases in this version, it does not appear for SQL server databases.
    To demonstrate:
    Press F9 to run query
Right click on Query Result data
For Oracle an Export Data sub menu appears
For SQL server no Export Data sub menu appears
    This worked in previous versions.
Is this functionality going to reappear?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Looks like this is exactly the same problem for third party connections as I have the exact same issue for mySQL.
I had to apply 1.5.5 version to fix it.
Hope we're going to have this solved !

  • Need suggestion for choosing Java development enviroment

    Hi Evereyone,
I am new to Java Desktop Application.I need help on choosing proper Java technologies and development tool.
We have an existing CLIENT/SERVER based distributed control system, which was developed in C++(Server side) and VB(Client GUI).Now we are think of migrating the system to Java platform.
    Here is the outline:
We want to create web based application that will run on windows and linux (linux on embedded PC).
The application should be able to support 10 100 users at once accessing/editing database.
We will also need to create a communication server that will run on web server P.C. that will communicate tcpip to field panels/log to db, as well as allow web screens to send/receive commands with field panels etc.
Could any one give me some suggestion about it?
I am thinking of Using J2SE 5.0, including RMI, JDBC and Swing for GUI. As for field panels, may choose J2ME.
Thank you very much in advance.

    Thanks, zadok .
Actually, I don't have the system requirements neither. All I know is the following outline:
"We want to create web based application that will run on windows and linux (linux on embedded PC).
The application should be able to support 10 100 users at once accessing/editing database.
We will also need to create a communication server that will run on web server P.C. that will communicate tcpip to field panels/log to db, as well as allow web screens to send/receive commands with field panels etc."
It is a interview question, which need me to do research and give some suggestions. What I want to know is to figure out what kind of Java technology is necessary for developing this system because I want to make sure I head to right direction.
I know somehow it is hard to give suggestion based on this limited information.
One more thing I was confusing is the server-side architecture.
I need suggestion about sever side architecture:
    a. write a dedicated server-side program, which act
as communication server to monitor and control field
panel, also act as server-side applicaiton by using
RMI to communicate with Client-side communication.
    b. choose a general web server architecture. Put
everything in server side in Web Server, for example
Tomcat AS container, implementing the Communication
server as Web Service and the request from
Client-side go to Web Server first, then dispatch to
a proper web service. Why did you not include this information in the original question!
Why don't you just use Tomcat?
For your answer, "Why don't you just use Tomcat?", does it mean Tomcat without Web Service will be enough for this system development? Could you give me some detail about it?
    Thank you very much, zadok.

  • Upgrade from SQL server developer 2008 R2 to SQL Server developer 2012

    Hi,
We have bought 5 licenses of SQL server developer 2012.

I want to know the process for up-gradation. When I looked at the licensing portal, it says "This product does not require a product key"
    My questions are:
    1) Should I download the 2012 version from licensing center and pass the downloaded copy to respective team members?
    2) Can the team member download the SQL server 2012 developer edition from Microsoft site and install it on their machines?
    3) Do we need to first un-install 2008 R2?
    4) How the licensing can be managed in cases of products which say "This product does not require a product key.", i.e. how can I make sure that no more than 5 installations are done by the team

    1. Developer edition has license associated with it .And yes you can download it if you have subscription. But please be informed that you cannot use Developer edition in production, its not allowed and illegal.
2.You can upgarde from SQL server 2008 R2 to 2012 developer edition by Inplace upgrade method ,you can also follow side by side approach. For side by side approach you have to get new box ,intall OS,then install SQL server 2012 ,move logins and jobs and move
databases by backup restore. You must see supported upgrades
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143393(v=sql.110).aspx
3.No not ins any case ,please dont do that
4.Licensing question should best be asked with Microsoft licensing expert.
reg process of upgarde first run upgrade advisor and look for error if any. Then run SQL server 2012  setup and in maintenance section select edition upgrade, other process is same as SQL Server installtion

  • Creating aliases for a server in DNS

    Hello,
We are developping a BI solution. We have 4 different environments/domains : development, test and acceptance and production. The servernames differ in each environment. For example the server in development is called SRVDEV10 while the server
in test is called SRVTEST21. The full names will be like SRVDEV10.development.local and SRVTEST21.test.local
Now I would like that the network administrators to create a DNS alias called BI_Server.
If I am in the development environment BI_Server should point to SRVDEV10 and if I am in the test environment BI_Server should point to SRVTEST21.
Is something possible ? Should they make aliases like BI_Server.development.local : SRVDEV10.development.local and BI_Server.test.local : SRVTEST21.test.local. Those domains are seperated and it should normally not possible to go directly from development
to test. It is also internal used and not accessable from the outside (internet)
Of course I can modify the hosts file but I don't want that.
    What do you think ?
    Constantijn

    Hi Constantijn,
According to your description, you want to create a DNS alias and point the alias to different servers. The issue is more related to Windows Server DNS, I would like to recommend you post the question in the Windows Server forums at
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/home?category=windowsserver . It is appropriate and more assists will assist you.
However, if you need to configure hostname alias for SQL Server instance, you can review the steps in this following blog.

  • MUDE for client-server configuration

I can easily connect from a client remotely to a server hosting OBIEE, by creating a ODBC system DSN that points to
the server, and choosing this DSN from the list of available DSN from Administration => file => open => online. works
    perfectly
When I configure projects at OBIEE server as a Multiuser Development Environment, I can not connect from a client remotely to a server. Administration => file => nultiuser => checkout does not give me an option to choose the system DSN for remote server
Can someone clarify steps to configure MUDE in a client-server environment
    Thanks

    Amrita,
In the article by Venkat, that you referred to in your response , I read the article, I have a few questions
    1. When I install OBIEE, the Master Repository automatically created at the c:\OracleBi\server\Repository directory
When you create projects, they are created in the Master Repository.
Do I then copy the master repository to Shared Network directory, ex. N:\SharedRepository
    2. When i start the AdminTool from the client m/c, how will the client knows to connect the remote server
I have not gotten to this part yet, just want to clarify, if any configuration necessary on the client side,
before file => Multiuser => checkout
    Thanks

  • Internet Explorer 10 for Windows Server 2008 R2

I need to install IE 9 or IE 10 on a Windows Server 2008 R2.  IE 9 or 10 is specified because of compatibility with some of our applications that have been developed in house.
An earlier post listed the link
http://download.microsoft.com/download/8/A/C/8AC7C482-BC74-492E-B978-7ED04900CEDE/IE10-Windows6.1-x86-en-us.exe  as a source for the IE 10 download, but when I downloaded it and tried to install it, I got an error "Operating System is not supported".
I am hesitant to download it from one of the non-microsoft sites that offer it.
Is there a way to download and install IE 10 to Windows Server 2008 R2?
Thanks very much for your help.

    Hello Logan,
Unfortunately, I did not find any download link of IE 9 or 10 from Microsoft's server. I think they are closing IE 10 or below versions for their OS.
However, I found an external link to download IE 10, if you want then visit:-

This is a question regarding "Oracle WebLogic Server Development" Prebuilt Virtualbox VM available for download here - http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/weblogic/downloads/weblogic-developer-vm-303434.html . Its description simply mentions that it has Oracle Linux 5.5 as the guest OS, but does not indicate what type of guest processor - 64-bit or 32-bit. Can someone who has tried it out please check this out and confirm?
    Thanks!

Downloaded and got it running - it is 32-bit Linux.
