Presales questions for contribute server
Extremely frustrating just trying to get product info before purchasing.
I called 888-649-2990 five times only to be hung up on 3 times when selecting 1 then 4. When you press the other option (number 2 on phone then number 3 for other products) for tech support they say hang on and send you back to 888-649-2990.
I finally get someone to explain that no presales support exists for Contribute server other than these fourms. Is this true? Really? Adobe...did you downsize to 10 staff?
Anyways, let's start with "what does contribute server specifically provide that Contribute alone doesn't?"
I presume you're referring to CPS (Contribute Publishing Server). We have been using it since it first came out several years ago and have been relatively pleased with it overall. I had expected Macromedia to do more with it as it has a huge potential to do much more, but they really didn't develop it. I was hoping they would implement an automatic link & spell checker or somthing. Now that it's in Adobe's hands, I really consider it a dead product. In fact, it won't install on Windows Server 2008 without running the installer in compatibility mode. It's still at version 1.11 and there hasn't been a release in about 5 years.
It's biggest benefit is not having to deal with connection keys. People authenticate using their Windows domain credentials and it sets up the connection automatically. It also sends me an email notification automatically when something gets published so I know to push it live from our staging server. It also maintains a log of all activity and comments, but that usefulness has turned out to be minimal.
Now that CS5 supports subversion, the benefit of CPS really seems minimal since subversion can be configured to send email notifications. Since I already have CPS, I'm eager to implement subversion along side it, but if that doesn't work, I won't hesitate to ditch CPS altogether. At some point, CPS will be incompatible with a Windows release and I don't expect Adobe to do anything to fix it.
If you don't have to deal with administering tons of users, I don't think it's worth it.

Dear All;
l have setup the Content server in Windows 2003 Standard Edition using the filesystem storage (not the MaxDB database), and the size of the document could be approximately 80GB (for the next few years), l didn't setup the Cache server.
All the attachment in the ECC will store into this External SAP Content Server.
Question 1:
Can anyone advise whether the Content Server(filesystem) will be having performance issue while store/retrieve documents? Is there any way to improve the performance of the Content Server?
Question 2:
Security. what are the necessary security option that l need to configure for the Content server? at the moment, the Windows server still configure as full access for the Content Repository folder. Otherwise the ECC will be having access denied problem when communicating with the Content Server.
Question 3:
There are some attachment in ECC, how to l move those documents to Content Server?
Please advise.
Many thanks
JordanWhen I say use certificates, there should be a checkbox with "check signature". This ensure that only sap machines with an active certificate can access the content server.
On the file system, I would ensure that no users have access to the file system through the backend. If they can modify documents, you will be sitting with major problems from a document integrity and legal perspective.
On the issue of migration, there is an oss note for the migration of data from one repository to another for archivelink.
Check note number 1043676
Symptom
You have created a new repository, and would like to migrate the ArchiveLink Documents to the new repository.
Other terms
Migration of documents, ArchiveLink, repository
Reason and Prerequisites
This report helps migration of ArchiveLink documents.
To use this report effectively, you would need to ensure that you apply the note 732436. However, this note will allow the migration of documents from and to type of repositories which are supported by ArchiveLink. The types of repositories that are supported by ArchiveLink are HTTP, RFC and R/3 Database.
Solution
Before you execute the report, you must set up a repository that can
store the documents (transaction OAC0). The repository may be in an
external archive(connected via HTTP or RFC) or (as of Basis Release 6.10) in the OLTP database of the SAP system. You can also use SAP Content Server as an external archive for storing documents.
The report has the following parameters:
OLD_ARC ID of the old repository previously used
NEW_ARC ID of the new repository
TEST_RUN: If you enable this, only a test run occurs, copy of documents does not occur.
DEL_FILE: If you enable this, then the files would be deleted from the old repository.
Launch the transaction SE38 and create a program with the name ZMIGRATE_ARCHIVELINK_FILES. Once the program is created, now copy the code from the correction instruction. -
Additional question for HTT server and XIM protocol
Dear Mr. Sujeet
Thanks for your reply! I've download the web pages and documents that you mentioned and read them. But I can't find the files named .OWdefaults and .Xdefaults in which I must add two new lines :
1 OpenWindows.StatusStyle.locale: imDisplaysInClient
2 OpenWindows.PreeditStyle.locale: onTheSpot
to set the XIM style and status. I try to create two new files .OWdefaults and .Xdefaults that contain lines above in tow directories :
1 /usr/openwin/lib/locale/OWdefaults
2 /export/home/lijian
but it doesn't work. I wonder whether there is something wrong above or I must write program using C++ in my own application.
Hope for your help again.
Best regards.Hi,
Enclosed below is an information document. Please do refer to that for help in this regard. I would suggest ensuring you have the correct packges installed and creating the .OWdefaulkts and .Xdefault file in your home directory after the necessary additions as per documentation and then starting "openwin".
Thanks
Sujeet
Verifying the Installed Locales
1.Reboot the system
Once you have added the localized packages, make sure to reboot the system before using the locale. This is not always needed, but is needed for some of the locales.
2.Setting the locale in your environment
When the system comes up, your target locale should be listed in the locale selection menu of dtlogin. Select it, and start the desktop from dtlogin If you are not using dtlogin (2.5.1 without CDE, for instance), set the LANG environment to your locale name. It is also advised to set LC_ALL to the same locale name.
From C shell, if you want to set the locale to ja (Japanese), for instance: % setenv LANG ja
% setenv LC_ALL ja
From Korn shell, if you want to set the locale to fr (French), for example: $ export LANG=fr $ export LC_ALL=fr Then, start openwin.
You could have locale sensitive X resources in your .Xdefaults or .OWdefaults. For instance:
OpenWindows.BasicLocale
If your selected locale does not seem to be activated, there is a chance that some of the resources are conflicting. It also happens that you may have font preference in your X resources. Remember that font availablity can be different per locale. Please eliminate locale dependent font settings in your environment when you test under different locales.
3.Checking the character output
Depending on whether you have installed Full locale or Partial locale, the strings on the desktop may be or may not be localized. Once the desktop is started, bring up a shelltool (or dtterm), and execute:
% date
The date command should print out the localized time data to you. By doing this, you have verified that the locale is correctly installed, and the fonts are loaded properly.
4.Checking the character input
Next thing to verify is the input mechanism for the locale. In one of
Chinese/Japanese/Korean locales, please also make sure t hat the system automatically starts a XIM (X Input Method) server. In these locales, the footer area for each shellWidget has extra space to display the current input mode string. Usually, Ctrl-space is assigned as the toggle key to turn on/off Asian language input. In Western European locales, XIM server is not started, and the extra footer area is not allocated either. One typical way to verify the character input mechanism using the US keyboard is to type in :-
Compose_key + a + double_quote
This key sequence will generate a-umlaut.
5.Ready to test your software
Now, you are ready to test your software in the target locale.
Asian Locales for Solaris 2.6
Note: Adding more than one asian locale can cause problems with the BCP packages. If you are going to add more than one asian locale, please do NOT add the BCP packages (SUNWxxbcp).
The asian locales that are supported are:

SUNWale - Asian Language Environment Common Files
SUNWaled - Asian Language Environment Common Man Pages

Comunication question for socket server and socket client
I created a simple socket server and a socket client
The server receive request from server and send same request back to the client.
Please see example code as below:
package socket;
import java.net.*;
import java.io.*;
public class SimpleServer {
public SimpleServer(int listen_port) {
this.listen_port = listen_port;
public static void main(String[] args) {
SimpleServer server = new SimpleServer(4444);
server.acceptConnections();
public void acceptConnections() {
try {
ServerSocket server = new ServerSocket(listen_port);
Socket incomingConnection = null;
while (true) {
incomingConnection = server.accept();
handleConnection(incomingConnection);
} catch (BindException e) {
System.out.println("Unable to bind to port " + listen_port);
} catch (IOException e) {
System.out.println("Unable to instantiate a ServerSocket on port: " + listen_port);
public void handleConnection(Socket incomingConnection) {
try {

String line = null;
int i = 0;
while((line=streamReader.readLine())!=null){
streamWriter.println(line);

streamWriter.close();
streamReader.close();
incomingConnection.close();
} catch (Exception e) {

String result2 = simple.getResponse("This is second request");
simple.tearDownConnection();

System.out.println("error");

socketReader.close();
} catch (IOException e) {
System.out.println("Error tearing down socket connection: " + e);
protected BufferedReader socketReader;
protected PrintWriter socketWriter;
protected String host_ip;
protected int host_port;
I send two request at the same time.
Please see code in main method of Simple class
String result = simple.getResponse("first");
String result2 = simple.getResponse("second");
What I think is the socket server will send the same request back to the client.
So value of result and result2 should be 'first' and 'second'
But it always return empty String for result2.
What's the problem?
Thanks for your helpYour code has a couple of problems.
1) the server doesn't flush its socket, so nothing will actually be sent until the socket is closed.
2) the client getResponse() reads until end of file, so an attempt to use it a second time will fail
3) in a real application the server should use threads. See the echo server I posted in http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=11&thread=526980 reply 3.
Also, please use the [code] tags when posting source. The lack of these is probaly why you haven't had any repiles until now. -
Expression Question for SQL Server Reporting Services 2008 R2
I am trying to form an expression that will give me the est. hours for a specific project type. Project Type is a field in the data set as well as est.hrs. There are no calculations needed. The hours is listed under the field name"Est.Hours".
So I've been trying to us an IIF expression. IIF(Fields!ProjectType.Value=Landscaping, "", Fields!Est.Hours.Value). It is not working. It renders "0" and it should render "10". What am I doing wrong?Hi Data Specialist,
Per my understanding that you want to use the expression to display the Est.Hours for the ProjectType which value are not "Landscaping" and if the value is "Landscaping" it will display null value, right?
I have tested on my SSRS 2008 R2 environment and find the issue can be caused by the expression you are using, I would like to confirm with you if the expression "IIF(Fields!ProjectType.Value=Landscaping, "", Fields!Est.Hours.Value)"
is what you are currently using.
As Patrick Hurst mentioned that we need do modify the wrap Landscaping in double quotes: "Landscaping" and also the fields name "Est.Hours" also can cause the problem, please try to remove the ".", rename the
field like"EstHours", So finally the expression is as below:
=IIF(Fields!ProjectType.Value="Landscaping", "", Fields!EstHours.Value)
If your problem still exists, please try to provide details information below to help us more effective to provide an solution:
If you got some error message, please provide them to us.
Please try to provide the snapshot of the report structure and the sample data of the table
Any problem, please feel free to ask.

is there a firefox or best browser (except IE) for Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard? if so, is it free of charge (open source) forever? where can I get it? details. need answers to all questions
# As to what is the best browser, it is subjective. I think it is the best, others will disagree. There is no special version for Windows Server 2003, the usual version works on it.
# It is free of charge and will always be free.
# It is open source.

Question : Service Accounts for SQL Server 2012
Hello,
I am planning to create AD accounts for SQL Server 2012 services that will be installed on Windows 2012 server.
I was reading the following
Configure Windows Service Accounts and Permissions
and
Windows Privileges and Rights
Is there a recommendation / document that would list that assocation of SQL Server Services with Actvie Directory service accounts / privileges required for installation and starting the services.
Isn't it recommended to create separate account for every service and they should not be local accounts ?
Hope to hear soon as to what industry standards are being followed for production systems ?
Thank you very much in advance.
Regards
NikunjFrom MSDN:
Each service in SQL Server represents a process or a set of processes to manage authentication of SQL Server operations with Windows. Each service can be configured to use its own service account. This facility is exposed
at installation. SQL Server provides a special tool, SQL Server Configuration Manager, to manage the services configuration.
When choosing service accounts, consider the principle of least privilege. The service account should have exactly the privileges that it needs to do its job and no more privileges. You also need to consider account isolation; the service accounts should
not only be different from one another, they should not be used by any other service on the same server. Do not grant additional permissions to the SQL Server service account or the service groups.
From Glen Berry's Blog:
You should request that a dedicated domain user account be created for use by the SQL Server service. This should just be a regular, domain account with no special rights on the domain. You do not need or want this account to be a local admin on the machine
where SQL Server will be installed. The SQL Server setup program will grant the necessary rights on the machine to that account during installation.
You will also want a separate, dedicated domain user account for the SQL Server Agent service. If you are going to be installing and using other SQL Server related services such as SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS),
or SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS), you will want dedicated domain accounts for each service. The reason you want separate accounts for each service is because they require different rights on the local machine, and having separate accounts is both more
secure and more resilient, since a problem with one account won’t affect all of the SQL Server Services.
Depending on your organization, getting these domain accounts created could take anywhere from minutes to weeks to complete, so make sure to allow time for this. For each one of these accounts, you will need their logon credentials for the SQL Server setup
program. You are going to want to make sure that the accounts don’t have a temporary password that must be changed during the next login. If they are set up that way, make sure to change them to use a strong password, and record this information in a secure
location.

Migration assistant questions for Server 10.6.8
Currently on 10.6.8 server on an iMac that was used for lots of things (users logged into it and installed apps). Moving to the Oct 2009 Mac Mini Server that had no optical drive. It has 10.6.8 server, and I want to migrate just for the server related stuff.
I've already installed the 10.6.8 over the "remote install osx" in Utilities (over LAN), and it's sitting at the Migration assistant screen, showing no volumes, yet.
1) do I now just plug the older server and new server directly together with lan cable for the migration assistant to see each other? I know the server will be down for a bit during this...
2) I don't want to migrate the all the apps and junk... just the server related stuff, like OD, user shares, etc.
What settings should I be checking in the Migration assistant to have my server working with sharepoints, OD users, and all except APPS?I've done a migration recently from a Mac Mini Server to a Mac Pro. I thought that migration the server by portion (like you) would be the most normal way, but turns out that I actually mirrored the entire disk image and it worked great. I simply booted my Mac Mini in Disk mode (FireWire) and copied it over.
In your case, it might be easier to start that way and remove the unwanted apps. At least, you'll be sure to have all your settings right away.
If you don't do that and start with a clean install, you'll need at least to migrate over your OD user using the Server Admin OD. Then, you'll need to "ditto" your mail, iCal and Address Book data over. The 10.6 Admin Guides, available on the Apple support website, are very detailed on the backup procedures. -
The certificate for this server is invalid
Hi can anyone help? I get a message "cannot connect to iTunes Store" when selecting App Store on my iPod. Also if I try iTunes icon, I get "the certificate for this server is invalid. You might be connecting to a server that is pretending to be "itunes.apple.com" which could put your confidential information at risk"
The steps I have taken so far, - connected to PC and updated software to iOS 6.1.3 (worked fine on PC)
Checked WiFi connection (fine)
Checked other apple products are working fine (yes)
Checked i am logged into apple id (yes)
Is there anything else I'm missing ??
Thanks aliianThanks to those contributing this fix -- had this issue on my son's iPad mini and was going crazy trying to figure it out!!
To answer the question of why this causes an issue: this is part of the standard security features of the internet - when you connect securely to a server (as the i-devices do when accessing itunes), it has an SSL Certificate which has an expiry date on it -- the device checks the certificate to try and make sure you aren't getting duped by an out of date certificate, and if your date is set too far in the future (my son's was in 2019!) then it looks like the expiry date is in the past and it won't let you connect..

How do I enable a site for Contribute users?
I'm sorry if this is a very basic question, but I have been
through the tutorials and much of the help in Contribute 3 and it
all seems to be focused on what to do with an existing, Contribute
enabled site. What I want to do is find out about what comes before
that - how to enable a site for Contribute users. I can't find
anything that explains how to do this. I've also looked through
what I assume are the files used by the Trio Motor Company tutorial
and I can't see anything that marks that out as being a Contribute
enabled site. I'm not even sure whether or not Contribute needs
special programs to be running on the server.
I'm probably missing something.
TIASite/Manage Sites .. select your site and Edit.
Go to the Advanced Site Definition Window. Next to last in
the menu column
is Contribute. Select that and check the check box.

Questions on Lync Server Management Pack 2013
Hello All,
We are using SCOM to monitor Lync Server
Is it possible to create "distributed applications"?
Which services are critical for Lync Server to function?
Is it possible to monitor the network connection between servers?Hi there,
Yes it is possible to create distributed applications for Lync server
Regarding the services technically all the Lync services should be monitored since each of them is responsible of a certain workload. but the main service is the lync front end service that once it is stopped it will affect client sign-in.
regarding monitoring the network it depends on what is the traffic that you want to monitor

Questions on NWDI server management.
Hi
We implemented NWDI on the same server as that of the portal.
(8GB RAM, 2.61 GHz AMD Opteron proc 285, Win 2003 OS)
A lot of space in <b><drive>:/usr</b> is being utilised whenever I run the import in NWDI, so from time to time I will have to delete the log files to create space.
is there any place <b>where I can default these log files to fall on a different drive location?</b>
Also I learnt that CBS utilises lot of drive space during its operation and when I check the CBS service in Visual Admin
<b>rootFolder is pointed to ./tem/CBS --> where is this located? I am unable to locate this?</b>
According to http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/53/75b3407e73c57fe10000000a1550b0/content.htm
The CBS can also point to C:/temp/CBS
I have enough space in C: drive <b>so can I point the rootFolder to C:/temp/CBS, will this affect the development process that is going on now?
Can this arrangement help improve the performance?</b>
Please advice
Thanks

I have used SSRS a lot years ago with Sql Server 2000 and Sql Server 2005. I have written external assemblies, ... But now I have to do this with Sql Server 2008 (R2 -- which I realize I am way behind the times already but ...) in sql server 2000 and
2005 there was a tab for datasource to the left of the tab for design which was to the left of the preview tab. How do I get to the datasource window in sql server 2008 (r2) ?
I see that datasource explorer. But where can I get to the datasource window to edit my queries and so forth for sql server 2008 (R2)?
Thanks
Rich PI think I found the answer to my question --- just right-click on the the Data Sources or Datasets for editing connections and dataset queries. I'm guessing it gets even fancier with Sql Svr 2012 - 2014. Man, that's the one thing
about coding platforms -- you let it go for a few years and come back, and everything has changed (well, a lot of things). Now I need to figure out how to add an external assembly to SSRS 2008 (R2).
