Openoffice 2 and kde4

Kde 4.1 is a good starting point to switch from kde3 but I do have a "major" issue: Openoffice looks ugly. Is there a way to improve the appearance of it?
Thanks

Has anyone tried this one?

If you're are using kdemod you have to correct the CMakeLists.txt because unfortunately the paths get no exported by kde itself.
Perhaps this does work with the kde from the [extra] repo.
I set /usr/lib/kde4 for the so package ; /usr/share/kde4/servicetypes/kcm_gk4,desktop for the start (?!) script.
I do not know where the icon path is, so i commented the INSTALL line out (#).
At the moment, there is a) no change in the systemsettings menue b) no change in gtk rendering.So nothing has changed :-( ...Has someone else gtk-kde4 running?

  • Openoffice and kde4 open/save dialogue

    Now that I've got this beautiful KDE4.4 desktop those dreadful gtk open/save dialogues have got to go!
    Followed the wiki but installation of gtk-qt-engine-1.1-2 rendered soffice useless - so no go there.
    There is Firefox of course but I'm hoping that there will be a 64_86 version of firefox-kde-opensuse in AUR soon. Audacity is another offender and I'm sure there are others...
    Oh, if only there were a one-for-all solution to these eye sores

    For the standard openoffice to get the KDE integration you need to have the command
    export OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP=KDE4
    somewhere that's getting sourced - I have it in /etc/profile.d/openoffice.sh since that was mentioned in the install message. When I tried out go-openoffice a while backI think it needed the same thing or else keeps the default gtk-style.
    For gtk-kde4 I had Systemsettings - appearance - gtk syle and it gives me some drop down menus which can be set to "Use current KDE style"
    I have noticed some things look a little more KDE-like than others - for instance gimp barely looks different than it did under standard gtk styles.

  • Apple X11 for openoffice; graphics and text getting blurred after update

    I downloaded a program from openoffice to have an alternative powerpoint presentation program. i successfully downloaded the program but when i was opening it a dialogue box says that i need to have Apple`s X11. and so i downloaded X11 but after a series of steps of installing it the final step where you choose where to place the application (McKintosh HD), it says it already has its latest version. and yet i CANNOT open the openoffice. how come? i`m getting frustrated now rechecking again and again. i need some advice on this.
    and also, after i updated for the newest mac OS X how come the text and the graphics on the computer are getting blurred? an update is supposed to be better than the old one, but how come it`s the other way around?
    macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)
    macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    The X11 package required cannot be downloaded from Apple. It is on the OS X installation disc that came with your computer in the Optional Installs package. Simply open Optional Installs and select the X11 package for installation.
    Be sure to set your Display for millions of colors when using Open Office.
    If you prefer a solution that doesn't require X11 try Neo Office instead. Also an Open Source project Neo Office doesn't require X11 to run. There is an Intel version of Neo Office available.

  • OpenOffice, X11 and mail

    When I attempt to open a PPS email attachment X11 and OpenOffice are started and they do not open the attachment and also it takes awhile to close them. I am able to control click the attachment go to Other and select Power Point (it does not give me a choice to always open with Power Point) and I have to do this each time. How do I get rid of OpenOffice, I found X11 and dumped it, hopefully when I do this I will be able to open my attachments. Thanks for any help

    Wasn’t quit sure which category to post this in.

    tony,
    I'm not sure that OpenOffice uses your system fonts directly (could be wrong), but I know NeoOffice/J does and I'm not seeing the problem you describe.

  • OpenOffice 2 and extendedPDF macro

    Hi All,
    I'm not sure if I'm in the right place for this question, but here goes:
    Does anyone know if the OpenOffice 2 package contains the extendedPDF macro?
    This is a great macro for exporting PDF's from OO docs with advanced features like including your Table of Contents as PDF bookmarks.
    I installed it for my current OO 1.1.4 setup. I'm still too scared to upgrade to OO2 right now, but I just wanted to point out this macro to the OO2 packager for consideration.
    extendedPDF's home is here:
    http://www.jdisoftware.co.uk/pages/epdf-home.php
    Thanks for all the maintainers work in making a GREAT disto!
    android

    Thanks neri !
    In OO1.1.4 the speed isn't too bad for me, but you're right about the compression. For my initial test document I get (in bytes):
       6832 jea.sxw
    13312 jea.doc
    25777 jea.pdf
    I'm glad to hear the TOC -> pdf bookmarks is a part of OO2 standard pdf export. I have to take the big leap soon and upgrade.
    It'll probably come as part of a major arch update ( I'm not even on udev yet, and now there's initrd, yikes! )
    Thanks Again for your reply and for maintaining OO for arch!

  • Chase - automatic updater for Arch and KDE4

    Hello people,
    I just realized I did not introduce Chase yet to the whole Arch community.
    Chase is a small KDED Daemon, very lightweight, based on aqpm that is able to monitor your system for updates, download and install them. It is integrated with Shaman and won't conflict with it. Some more details and a visual tour here: http://chakra-project.org/bbs/viewtopic.php?id=1303
    I saw somebody created a pkgbuild for it (which I did not test): http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=29567
    Hope you will enjoy this one!

    Pierre wrote:Well, I think this is a nice idea as some kind of update notifier. But, are you sure you really want to provide automated install of new packages? Yes, you put a warning there, but nobody should ever want to enable this as this will break your system for sure sooner or later.
    Yup, it's automatic _only_ if the user really wants to. In any case, he would be prompted to put the password and he is always forced to read the installation log output (the notification won't go away until you open the dialog), which carries all the various scriptlet output and stuff. Also, if the updater finds a question from libalpm, a conflict or whatever it will instantly stop and redirect the user to use Shaman or Pacman.
    So yeah, already thought about this

  • Xfce4 and kde4 artifacts

    Last week I got the itch to move away from KDE and move towards xfce4.  I am a long way up the learning curve and I have to say -- Wow, the performance is amazing.
    There are, however a few really nice KDE applications  (Kjots, Okular, Kstars, Kmplot) for which I have not found alternates that please me.
    These programs run fine under xfce4, but when they exit, I am left with a lot of KDE droppings in my task list.  Most notably   are multiple incidences of kdeinit4.  Okay, so be it -- KDE is loading some persistent infrastructure. They do go away when I log off.  The annoying part is that instantiating new KDE applications spawn new instances of kdeinit4 rather than, as I would expect, using the existing ones.
    I do not have KDE services turned on in my session manager.  Is this normal, or have I missed something?

    Can you dig through the output of lshal and see if you have a section pertaining to the backlight?  It will look something like this
    udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/computer_backlight'
    info.addons = {'hald-addon-generic-backlight'} (string list)
    info.capabilities = {'laptop_panel'} (string list)
    info.category = 'laptop_panel' (string)
    info.interfaces = {'org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.LaptopPanel'} (string list)
    info.parent = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/computer' (string)
    info.product = 'Generic Backlight Device' (string)
    info.subsystem = 'backlight' (string)
    info.udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/computer_backlight' (string)
    laptop_panel.access_method = 'general' (string)
    laptop_panel.brightness_in_hardware = true (bool)
    laptop_panel.num_levels = 11 (0xb) (int)
    linux.hotplug_type = 2 (0x2) (int)
    linux.subsystem = 'backlight' (string)
    linux.sysfs_path = '/sys/devices/virtual/backlight/acpi_video0' (string)
    Also, lets look in the older /proc file system for a handle.  What is the output of
    sudo find /proc -name brightness -print

  • Javaws, classpath, and OpenOffice client-side resources

    I've developed an application on top of OpenOffice which uses the installed openoffice jars and .dll's. I can't get the dll's to load using javaws. My root problem seems to be a non-standard way that openoffice is trying to load system libraries - from the OpenOffice forums, they use the location of a jar and then "go up one directory". My app works fine when I can provide control over the classpath (for example, from a batch file, ant, or eclipse) but I am stuck trying to webstart. The OpenOffice community has no answers.
    I've tried a huge number of permutations of things, based on advice from this forum:
    -- jar'ing up the installation jars and deploying them (works for the OpenOffice java classes, but not for the DLL loads)
    -- creating a custom class loader (again, works to load the java classes but not the DLL's)
    -- jar'ing up the installation DLL's and deploying them (doesn't have any effect)
    -- setting the system classpath in my code to the known client-side location of the installation (doesn't work - get NoClassDefFoundError)
    String cp = System.getProperty("java.class.path");
    String newcp = cp + System.getProperty("path.separator") +
                  "C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org1.1.4\program\classes";
    System.setProperty("java.class.path", newcp);I would have thought the last attempt would have worked - I don't understand why the classes cannot be found. Does anyone have any positive experiences with manipulating classpath via javaws?
    Thanks,
    Dave Santo

    I've solved this issue.
    I had to create a shell application, launched via jnlp. The shell app grabs the webstart cached jar files, builds a classpath string with all these jars and the client-side OpenOffice installation location, and launches the real application, i.e.
    public static void main(String[] args)
        File tmpdir = new File(System.getProperty("java.io.tmpdir"));
        // build the constructedClasspathString, based on this class (see thread referenced below)
        String[] launchArgs = new String[4];  // or more if you want to copy in other arguments
        launchArg[0] = "java";
        launchArg[1] = "-cp";
        launchArg[2] = constructedClasspathString;
        launchArg[3] = targetClassNameString;
        // copy in other arguments as desired...
        Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(launchArg, null, tmpdir);
        StreamGobbler out = new StreamGobbler(p.getInputStream(), "OUT");
        out.start();
        StreamGobbler err = new StreamGobbler(p.getErrorStream(), "ERR");
        err.start;
        int result = p.waitFor();
    }You definitely want to inherit this instance's environment, so don't override the 2nd argument to exec().
    The StreamGobbler stuff can be found here:
    http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-12-2000/jw-1229-traps.html
    The 'grabbing the webstart cached jar files' stuff can be found here (you'll want to modify it a little ...)

  • Openoffice - empty language modules and spel checking does not work

    Hi,
    I installed openoffice-base, openoffice-de and openoffice-spell-de. My /opt/openoffice/share/dict/ooo/dictionary.lst looks ok:
    ### start de
    DICT de AT de_DE
    DICT de AT de_AT
    DICT de DE de_DE
    DICT de DE de_DE_neu
    DICT de DE de_DE_comb
    DICT de LI de_CH
    DICT de LU de_DE
    DICT de CH de_CH
    HYPH de AT hyph_de_DE
    HYPH de DE hyph_de_DE
    HYPH de LI hyph_de_DE
    HYPH de LU hyph_de_DE
    HYPH de CH hyph_de_CH
    THES de DE th_de_DE
    THES de DE th_de_DE_v2
    ### end de
    Ive read nearly every hint on the internet to this problem, but nothing works.
    When trying to check the spelling, OO returns immidiately and says, its everything fine, even if i have errors.
    I tried to install the dictionary again with the OO wizard, but without success. Im getting some Macro error when trying to run it.
    Hopefully someone can help me. Im out of ideas
    Edit: sorry i just saw, that i posted my topic in the wrong sub-forum. Maybe someone cann move it to the correct one...

    EDIT
    Mea Culpa. Everything is working now, I've missed update to openoffice-base

  • Openoffice does not work after upgrade [Never mind]

    After I upgraded and tried to use any openoffice component, I get this after running soffice in both fluxbox and KDE4:
    [insertmyusernamehere@myhost ~]$ soffice
    terminate called after throwing an instance of 'com::sun::star::uno::RuntimeException'
    And this is the log of my system upgrade today. I know it cannot be the kernel since the last few times I was using the new kernel, openoffice was working perfectly until I tried using hwd (because it was one of those moments where my mouse failed again b/c of its batteries) to set xorg.conf (<-- I know, wut?)...and then I deleted the xorg.conf after taking out hwd and its dependencies. Turns out I had to make new settings...

  • Application hotkeys and keyboard layouts in KDE[SOLVED]

    Hi,
    For as long as I use Linux, I've been annoyed by this particular trouble: change layout from en to ru, for instance, and get your hotkeys (like Ctrl-S) unresponsive. Granted, that the trouble sometimes goes - to come back later on . I tried Google, but no luck. Which is kinda funny, because any bilingual user must be all too familiar with the issue. I can't even be sure whether it's some systemwide setting or an application responsibility.
    Now I've run into a something like a perfect testcase :
    OpenOffice 3.0.1 and Firefox 3.0.8:
    (1) In Arch the hotkeys like Ctrl-S and Ctrl-T work in both apps regardless of the keyboard layout. (KDE3 and KDE4)
    (2) In Pardus the hotkeys in both apps work in en layout but do not in ru layout. (KDE3)
    What is it?

    Control Center(KDE)->Keyboard Layout->Layout->Include latin layout checkbox needs to be checked. After that Command lines for the respective layouts look like
    setxkbmap -model pc104 -layout us
    setxkbmap -model pc104 -layout ru,us -variant ,winkeys
    The trouble's gone.

  • [SOLVED] Help, Missing Fonts in Openoffice's menu.

    Hi, after an update suddenly the fonts from Openoffice and K3B are gone, had this problem since KDE 4.1 and before the 4.2 update I uninstall KDE and delete .kde and .kde4 folders, install KDE 4.2 from the repos and initially everything was working fine, but after a new update in wich was included openoffice the fonts are gone again. I've serch in the forums but I can't figure out what's wrong, so I came here to see if anybody has any ideas about the cause of this issue. Thanks in advance.
    These are screenshots from the applications with the missing fonts:
    PS. Sorry about my lousy english.

    This issue seems to be related to the one described in This Post , I'll try compiling and installing 96.43.10 nVidia Drivers and see if this fix it. More info later

  • Keyboard problems with KonsolePart and KatePart

    Hi!
    I'm having a very strange problem with my keyboard's laptop. I use a Compaq 6720s with spanish keyboard and KDE4 installed.
    I can write normally on any app (OpenOffice.org, Dolphin, Plasma Desktop, etc), but not in KatePart/KonsolePart-based apps, like Kwrite, Kate, Konsole or Yakuake.
    For example, it doesn't recognise these characters: "( ) / & % $ + _ ." but it does recognise : "* _" and other special characters. This is very strange because . and : are in the same key, + and * are too in the same key. Any hint about what is happening?

    I have also detected that Nano doesn't display itself correcly. This is an XML file screenshot:
    It doesn't show correctly on system console (with alt+f1), but there I can write normally. This is my rc.conf:
