Opinions on Cleaning?

Hi,
So far to clean my MBP I've been using the Screen Dr. Pro solution on a microfiber cloth.
For the hard to reach places, such as in between the keys on the keyboard, and the end pieces of the screen (corners, and around the edges), I've been using a moist Q-Tip.
The microfiber cloth and solution seem to work, and were recommended to me at both Best Buy and the local Apple Store.
The Q-Tips are coming in useful, but I am also very careful.
I go around the edges of the screen with it, moist, and then use the other side of the Q-Tip which hasn't been moistened to dry it and wipe the grime and prints off.
Does this seem like an appropriate cleaning method?

You are doing just fine.  For my display I use this:
I found this in the local supermarket.  It leaves the display like the day I pulled from the box.
I use a small dampened microfiber cloth to apply it and a large microfiber cloth to wipe it off.
Ciao.

  • Opinions Please: Sorenson Squeeze or Cleaner

What is better for general web streaming, Sorenson Squeeze or Cleaner?
Real, WMV, QT are the primary formats I use.
    Thanks

Jeff, David is trying to make sure that it's clear what you're looking for. Your comments such as "Streaming and Compressing media before putting it on the web." make it less than clear what it is you think those programs accomplish.
Just to make it clear so we're all sure of what we're talking about, Squeeze and Cleaner don't providing streaming services, only compression. Either product can prepare a video for streaming (providing hinting for RTSP streaming, for instance), but you need a separate software package such as QuickTime Streaming Server to provide the actual streaming service. You may well already know this, but it's not clear from your post, so just making sure.
As to Squeeze vs. Cleaner, until recently I'd say Squeeze hands down. Cleaner hadn't been updated in close to two years and had fallen well behind in compatibility and features. Autodesk recently released a new version of Cleaner, though, which makes Cleaner once again a contender. I've generally preferred the interface of Cleaner for large batch processing (which we do); Squeeze and Apple's Compressor tend to lend themselves better to single or small numbers of files. But I haven't seen the most recent version of Squeeze, so it may have improved in that regard.
As to codec comparisons, I've not seen any good comparisons. Obviously Sorenson is the place to go if you're compressing with their codec. I've seen mixed reports about their H.264 codec, though, so I'd want to investigate further before I chose Squeeze (or Cleaner, for that matter) if H.264 was going to be my primary codec. You might look for additional opinions on Creative Cow, a set of forums for media professionals.
Ultimately, you may want to download the trial versions of each and perform your own testing. That way you would know exactly what each pacakage would deliver in your particular situation and workflow.
Just FYI, Popwire's Compression Master is another compression package worth looking at.

  • Windows 7 upgrade: discs will include the option for a 32 to 64-bit upgrade via a clean install?

I would like to know whether the Lenovo Windows 7 upgrade discs will include the option for a 32 to 64-bit upgrade via a clean install?  I called Mentor today and was told the answer is no, but I was hoping someone here could tell me differently.
If "no" is truly the answer, I would like to voice my complaint: The upgrade discs from Microsoft (i.e. the retail upgrade discs) include both the 32 and 64-bit versions, so I don't completely understand why Lenovo's upgrade program doesn't offer the same thing.  I purchased my T500 in August, and back then Vista Ultimate 64 was not offered, so I chose Vista Ultimate 32 thinking that I could later upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate 64.  This assumption was based off of the info. on Microsoft's website indicating that all upgrades would contain the 32 and 64-bit versions.  I even customized my computer with 4 gigs of RAM thinking that I could take advantage of the extra gig once I installed Windows 7 64.
I don't understand what Lenovo or Mentor Media have to gain by restricting a 32 to 64-bit install.  I voiced this opinion to Mentor Media over the phone, who responded by saying that I should be happy since I am receiving a "free" upgrade.  I don't think this is an accurate assessment for two reasons: (1) I had to pay $17.03 for shipping, and I still haven't received the upgrade and (2) The total cost of my computer was almost $3,000, and the purchase was made a mere few weeks before Windows 7 was released.  $3,000 is a lot of money.  I waited for the details of the Windows 7 Upgrade Program to be announced BEFORE purchasing my machine.  When I finally bought my computer I accounted Windows 7 into the price I was paying.  In addition, when I bought this computer I did so expecting good customer service as a given.  Not providing a 64-bit upgrade without a rational explanation as to why does not qualify as appropriate customer service.
As most of you know, 4 gigs of RAM is useless with a 32-bit OS.  Also, NOW Lenovo is building new T500s with the option of having Windows 7 Ultimate 64 (why wasn't Vista Ultimate 64 offered when I bought my computer???).  And the price for choosing Windows 7 Ultimate 32 is EQUAL to the price for choosing Windows 7 Ultimate 64, which proves that there is no cost difference.  I just want to know what Lenovo has to gain by denying customers a 64-bit upgrade?  There would really be no additional cost since as I mentioned before, Microsoft's retail upgrade includes the 32 and 64-bit OS on one disc.  If anything I would think that it's costing Lenovo money to strip the 64-bit install from the upgrade discs.
Can anyone please address my problems?  Do you think there is anyone at Lenovo I could contact to voice my opinions?  I have been a loyal Thinkpad customer for over 5 years now, and I expect better from Lenovo.  Thank you for reading!

Is there any way to request a 64-bit OEM?  Why should Lenovo care whether I want a 32-bit or 64-bit as long as it's the same edition (Ultimate edition)?
if your system shipped with a 32-bit version of vista then you will be sent 32-bit windows 7 upgrade media.   the reason for this is two-fold.
first, because this is upgrade media, it's impossible to install a 64-bit version of windows over a 32-bit version.   doing so would require a clean installation and upgrade media simply won't allow this.   this is the case with retail media, too.   if you had 32-bit vista installed and wanted to upgrade it to 64-bit using retail media, you'd have to wipe your system or set up a dual-boot.
second, the COA (certificate of authenticity) on the bottom of your system is for vista.   because of this, your new license is of an upgrade from vista to 7.   this is how microsoft licenses it and it is their policy, not lenovo's.   microsoft's policy with OEMs is that you must install vista first, then upgrade to 7 (unless, of course, you purchased your system native with 7 on or after the 22nd).   since your original lenovo preload is of a 32-bit OS, the issue becomes circular and you'll have to refer again to the first reason.
i understand your frustration and wish this stuff were made easier for everyone.   it's repetative reading post after post of people with 4GB installed who don't understand the limitations of a 32-bit environment.   i wish both manufacturers and users switched to 64-bit OSes sooner.   the same thing happened when the industry went from 16-bit windows 3.11 to 32-bit windows NT4/95 and limitations went from 16KB all the way up to 4GB (which, in 1995, no one thought we'd ever exceed).   the difference is that people were complaining on BBSes over 14.4k modems instead of on GUI-based forums using broadband connections.   times sure have changed.

  • I think my hard drive is failing but would appreciate other's opinions

I had a problem where my system was more frequently getting beach balls of death, freezing, etc. after an upgrade to Snow Leopard. It finally got to the point that it would no longer boot up.
I tried everything I could think of from disk utility to running single user and manually running fsck. Finally, I broke down and got a copy of Diskwarrior. DW was able to rebuilt the directory and I was able to get my data onto my external HD. By the way, DW was not able to replace the damaged directory with the rebuilt one because it indicated there was a disk malfunction (hardware problem not software).
After I took off my data, I used my Leopard install disk to erase the hard drive and then install. However, I did not use the zero out data function, just simple erase. I then reinstalled Leopard.
After the install was complete, it said it would restart, which it did. Unfortunately, once it restarted and went through the welcome screen, it asked to set up. At the point I was setting up my account picture, it just froze again with the beachball of death. I couldn't get it to unlock to did a reset/restart.
Once it came back, after a very long boot time, I ran disk utility and asked it to verify the disk. It then gave an error of invalid index key along with the volume macintosh hd needs to be repaired and Error:Filesystem verify or repair failed.
Oh one last thing, I did let the installation dvd does through its own verification before installation and it reported no problems.
So, my feeling is that it's not a good sign when a fresh clean installation has problems from the start. As a result, I think that my HD is starting to bite the dust and needs to be replaced.
Any other opinions out there? Has anyone had really bad problems with their system where an initial fresh install didn't solve things but it turns out HD was fine?
Don't really want to buy a new HD, but on the other hand don't want to install to a damaged HD and have to go through all this again in a few weeks.
    Opinions??
    Thanks in advance,
    Dan

Checking the RAM is a great idea. I'll give that a try and see what happens.
I've downloaded a SMART utility but the problem with SMART is that most of the time is doesn't detect an actual pending drive failure until the drive is completely dead. Right now, SMART says all is well, but clearly something is wrong.
Update: I completely scrubbed the HD last night, installed Leopard, and installed updates. After the updates were installed, I went to close the finder window that automatically appears on the desktop after installation. Well, as you might guess, instead of closing the window, beachball of death! Only thing I could do was shutdown via power switch.
I'll test the RAM and see what that says. If RAM checks out, it's time to get a new HD. Really miss Newegg over here in these parts!

  • After finally completing  a clean install what is the BEST way to replace my data.

Please understand I moved from PC to Mac in Late 2011. Unlike windows where you have to know how it all works to use it, Mac is so simple I, to my own detriment , did not take the time to learn more than just my daily use. Been busy moving country and other crazy life stuff. I am rectifying this mistake. I did have issue with the clean install process working through with out interruption, some file issue, so had to repeat a few times.
    1. completed a clean install through to completion of set up, new account etc. Machine runs amazingly better. Completed updates. Knowing Migration Assistant can deal with duplicate user issues.
Q? Do I need to run disk repair or other.
    2. Thought myself ill equipped with knowledge and understanding to manually replace my data via finder. I simply do not know where things are supposed to go.
    3. Tried reinstall of everything thru set up but it installed everything including all the issues I had before. Went through clean install process again.
    4. With this in mind I am hesitant and very weary to use Migration Assistant to move everything back as I simply do Not know where the issue lies even if it allowed greater folder & file separation.
I have got to the stage where I am ready to recover my data which is on my backup external hard drive. The data was recovered using Time Machine.
I wish to do what is best for my machine. It is getting older and I wish to do what I can for its longevity.
Q? So what data is best recovered in which way and in what order.
    5. Is it best to say do recover applications from App Store and redo all updates if required.
Then install non app store apps, e.g. Microsoft office for mac, and others thru finder.
Users thru Migration assistant  etc etc.
Been learning and working on this since my last post. Lots of watching YouTube and reading for hours.
So much conflicting opinions and maybe this is due to my lack of specifics and most posts are for general use so I do understand.
Again thank you in advance. I still think Mac has it all over PC.

I read thru the data migration one below however wasn't sure of its applicability given it was from 09.
Re: 2. there seems to be data I have yet to bring across. How important it is I don't know. What exactly it is I also am yet to find out. Will proceed with the downloading n stuff.
Thank you for your help on this.

  • Wipe macbook pro clean

i've been told it's a good idea to wipe my macbook pro clean (restore to factory) before upgrading from snow leopard to yosemite. seems it might prevent problems, provide a fresh start. i'm all backed up. what's next? opinions about doing it at all?

I'll tell you that have your data backed up and simply install Yosemite without erasing the drive.  There is no point to it.
Understand that there may be some applications (PPC based) that will not work with Yosemite, so be prepared for a little house cleaning and updating.
    Ciao.

  • Opinions on IBM DB2 Intelligent Miner for Data...

I'm going to be getting into Oracle data mining or the IBM DB2
Intelligent Miner for Data. The info given out by IBM (online at
    http://www-3.ibm.com/software/data/iminer/fordata) indicates
that it ought to be okay if I've got an Oracle database. I've
    installed Oracle8i Enterprise Edition (8.1.7) on Windows 2000; &
I've got the 9i installer cd's (I've not gotten that far yet).
For now, I'm interested in opinions on if/whether I ought to go
with Oracle Data Mining (9i, I guess...is this an option in 8i?)
or the IBM data mining option. I'm looking for an intuitive
interface, obvious & easy-to-follow instructions (if this
exists); & features, I guess. Is one going to offer a nicer
overall interface but be limiting?, etc. Thanks,
    Noel Whelan

    Update
i had another hanpup in BW.
Our AIX level is :  6100-05-01-1016  (released in 4/2010)
I find an APAR for TL4 from 4/2010, which shows the same behaviour.
    So i'll try db2_use_iocp=off
    Info to APAR:
    APAR Number: IZ74508
    APAR status
    Closed as program error.
    Error description
When IOCP is on and used by DB2 at AIX 6.1 TL04, DB2
    calls
    sqloGetMultipleCompletionStatus() which in turn
    calls AIX's IOCP extension.
The IOCP call GetMultipleCompletionStatus() never returns
causing I/O to stop when DB2 is in it's page cleaning
    routines.
    Local fix
    1. Stay at 6.1 TL03 and below
    or
    2. Do not activate IOCP in DB2.
We will see how it works.

  • Reconfigure/Expand/Replace HD's in G5 Opinions Needed

    Hi,
For some time I have needed to update my configuration of my hard drives on my dual 2.0 G5. I need more space and adequate backup in an organized and efficient setup. I'm a Photographer and Graphic Designer so I work with large files.
    Currently Running:
    (2) internal 160GB drives (Operating System Drive/Work Files Drive)
    (1) External 600GB raid for permanent and continuous backup (2 300gb drives working as one 600gb drive, I would rather not run this configuration due to failure of one drive would cause failure of entire drive. Did not realize that when I bought it. Was not too informed at the time, but I am now)
    What I am considering doing:
Replace internal work drive with 1.5TB to 2TB and mirror to external drive.
Other option for work drive would be to go to external drive raid setup, 2TB raided (2, 1TB drives acting as one) mirrored to identical setup. I'm hoping this would give me speed when mirrored. Maybe not? The main question is speed in the mirrored backup setup. I work with and need to store large image files (RAW and Photoshop). I'm worried mirror raiding would slow the work flow. Anyone mirror raiding experience slower speeds.
Would like to reinstall Leopard on a clean drive and start over with operating system drive as there seems to be some quarks with it but it still runs okay. Is this a good idea? How do you migrate all of your applications over. Can you just drag and drop. Someone told me you should have your applications on a separate disk anyway. And why we are on it, what drive should you setup for a scratch disk for Photoshop. Yeah I'm getting off the topic a bit but if anyone can help, I would appreciate it.
The external I figure I would setup as a 300GB mirror for my wife who is an artist and needs a drive to hold all the files I have on my drive of her work for reproduction.
Feel free to ask for further details. Hope to get some opinions. And by the way what kind of drive would you recommend. I'm seeing a lot of recommendations for Western Dig.
    Thanks in advance,
    CK

I would not use mirror arrays for anything.
    A couple backups, yes.
    2 x 300GB drives in RAID1 mirror = 300GB anyway.
So that sounds like you ran stripe RAID0.
Mirror internal to external? No, and you would need an SATA PCI-X controller.
    What I would configure:
5 x WD internal drives with 3 running off 4-channel controller, drives mounted in Sonnet G5 Jive. Or 1TB drives.
    External - 4 channel SATA controller, FirmTek 5PM case, 4 x 1TB drives.
WD Caviar 640GB/1TB are popular and fast.
Hitachi Enterprise 1TB and 2TB (2TB is new and darn expensive).
    http://www.barefeats.com/hard125.html
You want a faster boot drive, then you might want bootable SATA controller and 2 x WD 10K VelociRaptors. Fast scratch volume, 2-3 WD Caviar 640s.
The OS boot drive should only hold applications and doesn't need to be larger than 150-300GB, so just using WD 10K, or format of half 640GB.
Disable spotlight on boot drive and scratch, and don't use boot drive as primary (or any) scratch volume - it will be doing enough as is.
Scratch. Same applies. stripe the outer half of two or more drives for the best performance is also used sometimes.
Just replacing those old small slow 160s would make a good improvement, and, they are old enough to be on their last legs.
Where you used "mirror" I would just use SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner to make backup images.

  • All USB drives disconnect after upgrade and clean install of MAC OS X Mavericks

I first upgraded to Mavericks and noticed that my external USB dries would disconnect after MBP Retina Mid 2012 model was updated to Mavericks.  These worked fine in all versions of Mac OS X before upgrade.  So I did a clean install figured my machine would benifit from this anyway. This did NOT fix the problem.
Wouldn't be much of an issue but I use this macine as a media server with Plex and all the media is in one of the external USB 3.0 drives.  All drives are from Seagate, and have found no info there.  Guessing this is a bug that Apple needs to fix unless its a Seagate issue which I doubt.
My TEMP FIX while my machine is plugged in to the power adapter and drives.

If the tracks are recognized by your iPod (playable), search VersionTracker for "iPod". You'll find a number of utilities that can transfer your tracks and your playlists from your iPod back to your Mac.
If they're just on your iPod as data, then I'm not certain since I don't use a custom hierarchy, but you should be able to copy the folder back to your iTunes Music folder, turn off the "copy to iTunes library when adding to library" preference, and then use the Add To LIbrary command to get them recognized by iTunes. Again, though, I don't use a custom hierarchy, so you might want to ask that question as a new post, just to get additional opinions.
BTW, an iPod is not a reliable backup for your tracks. Too many situations can arise that would cause your iPod to need to be erased. I strongly recommend that you make backups, particularly of any tracks purchased from the iTunes Music Store or that would otherwise be difficult to replace, to CD, DVD, external hard drive, or other medium.

  • Performing a "clean install" of 10.6 as routine maintenance?

Does anyone regularly wipe out their entire Mac OS 10.6.8 and perform a "clean rinstall" as part of a routine maintenance regimine? I was always told an OS reinstall was overkill, unless you were having issues that could not be resolved through traditional trouble-shooting methods, and that it wasn't something that was necessary to do on a regular basis. Considering how much time it takes to reinstall the OS and upgrade all the apps to the latest versions, is there any new reason I'm not aware of as to why someone would need to do this for 10.6.8 on a regular basis in a work environment if they aren't experiencing any issues? Thanks for any opinions.

Are you using the original gray-faced OS X DVDs that came with the system (if so, what OS X level does it say on the disk) or a retail copy of OS X 10.6 or another gray-faced OS X disk from another system? You can't use a gray-faced OS X disk from, for example, an iMac or MacBook Pro, to install on your MacBook.
Was it originally delivered with an OS X level that is greater than what you're trying to install? You can't install an earlier level than what came with the system.
Did you boot to the DVD, and use Disk Utility to create one disk partition, then reboot and try to install?

  • Does Running a Zeros Erase + Clean Install of SL Fix Glitchy Bugs ?

    Hi Guys & Gals...
I'm just asking the questions as I know from previous and past experience a clean install can be a very dangerous this to do.... I have lost data before.... doing this procedure.... but I must say... it nearly always delivers a fix to software problems the normal route of repairing permissions never seems to deliver.
This time I have all my Data on a 8TB Drobo Drive... so I'm confident I won't loose any important data.... but I do know I will have to slowly... piece by piece build back up my entire system.... enter numerous serial numbers and software updates etc... but I think it might be my only resort at this stage.
I have been having issues with Photoshop ever since I updated to Snow Leopard. My main issue was that I couldn't have numerous windows open... as in I would find it difficult to select the window I would be working in... sometimes what Photoshop would be showing me wasn't the file I was working on. I would close it down... and then realise I closed down the main file I was working on... and it wouldn't even ask me if I wanted to save the file and I would loose all the work I had just done. That would be my major issue... also.... opening numerous high resolution TIFF files would normally end up in Photoshop just quitting. I have 8GB of RAM which always served me well under Leopard and Tiger.
Now Photoshop won't even open two documents without quitting and it's very erratic behavior... sometime it will open them... others it won't... so I really want to sort this before my workload starts to intensify.... which is about 1-2 weeks away.
The new issue is with Quark.... it just keeps quitting on certain files.... but when I move these self same files over onto my MacBook Pro... they open fine... OK I could use my MacBook for some edits... but it's a 15" screen as opposed to my normal 3-" working screen and it's really not the way to be working...
So all in all I find myself here... wanting to do a complete erase and install. When I did upgarde from Leopard to Snow Leopard I usually would have done an erase and clean install... but I was busy and couldn't afford the down time and anxious to experience Snow Leopard so I went ahead and just did the software upgrade.
My question is.... will I really be only wasting my time... as I know it will take days... if not weeks to get fully everything back to the way it was.... but if I can eradicate these issues... while I have this window of opportunity.... maybe it will be worth it..
Any comments... please.... would be most welcome... as I'm planning the Zeros Erase + Install for tomorrow.

MacOS X 10.6.2 still has quite a few crashing bugs. So does every other OS on the planet. It certainly has far fewer of those than any Adobe product.
I was talking about the specific Mac OS bugs that have plagued me personally since 10.5.0 under Photoshop CS3 and CS4 — these are known, documented crashers within the OSX operating system that Apple hasn't fixed in 10.6.2.
There are also new OSX bugs that were introduced in 10.6.0 that also crash Photoshop CS4 (according to my troubleshooting and high-level Photoshop engineers who've looked at my numerous crash reports on a freshly 'zeroed' 10.6.2 hard drive with only Photoshop CS4 added on).
Yes, RAM was ruled out, and Apple replaced my logic board, processors, matching video cards during the process. They even replaced a 30" monitor that failed.
I even duplicated the OP's specific problem (working with several files open, dragging layers between windows) on a remote Adobe machine using special debug software for the engineers. I did this in less than eight minutes and told them exactly where the crash occurred.
writing zeros to any hard drive is a waste of time.
I am not too sure what Apple's Disk Utility> Security Option (zero) does these days — if it remaps bad blocks or if it will fail the 'zero' process when it hits them as it 'tests' each and every block on the drive — so I won't comment further other to say I "zero" every Mac I get (new or used), every new hard drive I install, and every suspect hard drive.
So for now, I will stick to my opinion that the 'zero' option is far from useless here to make a troubleshooting point to the engineers or support techs.
I have no doubt 10.6.2 is very unstable for certain users - mainly those users who want to run unsupported software.
If you are saying Photoshop CS4 is "unsupported" software, then I agree with your point — then the simple point here becomes: Photoshop does not run reliably on the Mac OSX platform in a professional environment.
    +++++
I have to say I've done all the troubleshooting (with both level two Apple support and Adobe engineers) to know what I am talking when it comes to CS3 and CS4 Photoshop problems on Intel machines running 10.5x and 10.6x.
I think the benefit of these forums is to get a wide variety of opinions from people who actually use the software on a daily basis, and from those people who actually know how to make the Mac OS work and those who know how to troubleshoot it effectively.
My point is Photoshop runs like crap for some people on OSX 10.5x and 10.6x, so don't waste too much time trying to figure it out once you ruled out the hardware and install....

  • Opinions on Snow Leopard

I'm currently running OS X 10. I went to the Apple Store to buy the OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard upgrade.. that was until I read the reviews. Over half of them say that 10.6 is horrible, while the rest (the minority) say it's amazing. After all the similar warnings about how people's Mac's ran great up until installing 10.6, I rethought my decision to upgrade. My main reason for upgrading is because there are more and more software updates surfacing that require 10.6. I'm starting this thread to get some more opinions on Snow Leopard, so I can figure out if I should upgrade, or stay where I am.
    Thanks,

The $29 version (single system: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A) or $49  version (5-system family pack: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC574Z/A) do both clean install and upgrades.  The only real question for you is whether you buy a family pack just because you might upgrade more systems and the price is less than 2 single-system disks or spend $29 and be limited to 1 system install.
1 external drive, and your choice of disk (1 or 5 system).  Done and done.
OWC (macsales.com) is a vendor that tries to be Mac compatible and carries many external drives that are trusted by others in this forum.  Choice of interface (USB or Firewire) and size is up to your budget.  And whatever drive you buy can become a backup drive when you decide to commit to one system or the other.  Or stays the separate system if you decide that Leopard and SL both offer good reason to keep them around for application compatibility.

  • Anti Virus Software/ Mac Cleaning software - is it necessary?

    Hi,
I was wondering if investing in any type of anti virus/ mac cleaning software would be worthwhile?
I was looking at Clean my Mac from MacPaw http://macpaw.com/index and Norton AntiVirus for Mac. I was wondering if it would help, because for the few viruses that it would find on a Mac, the extra program running constantly in the background might slow it down even more.
    Any opinions/ suggestions are appreciated.

    HI,
Just to make you aware there are no Mac viruses in the wild but if you want to use anti virus software get ClamXav
Word to the wise. Norton is the worst software on the planet. It is literally a virus in itself. If you instal it, only an erase and install can rid you of it.
And keep in mind, any anti virus software has a tendency to slow the system down. So if you notice a lag... you'll know why.

I've never used Clean My Mac before... so I really can't offer any advice on that one.

  • Reviews/opinions between Epson R220 and HP DVD Writer dvd740e

I've seen good reviews here for the Epson R220 for printing labels onto DVDs. I just stumbled upon the HP DVD Writer dvd740e with Lightscribe laser etched technology for $129.00. Anyone have any experience/opinions? Thanks.

My Epson R220 worked for a year. Now the printer won't accept the DVD tray. The print head moves over, makes one pass and the tray ejects.
Epson says "buy a new tray" but with S+H $16....I think I'll buy a new printer.
The book says feed sheets to clean the rollers, but no luck. Any ideas?
