Optics experiment requires to control with a numeric control or string, but source code is having trouble

I'm working with my professor on an optics experiment and we are trying to control a fast steering mirror with LabVIEW. We bought the mirror and power supply from piezosystemjena. They provided a LabVIEW code that works.
The problem is that right now, the code can only be controlled manually. We wish to have LabVIEW control it based on inputs received from other sources. The LabVIEW code is controlled in either one of two ways. A knob can be used to change the value of the voltage to move the mirror. Also, a command can be sent to control the voltage. In both cases, the "channel" is specified. In our situation, we have two channels, a X and a Y channel for the axes of the mirror.
The knob is not convienient for this situation, because we wish to have a numeric control. When I try and simply "replace" the knob with a numeric control, many things go wrong. There are other references, property nodes, and sub VI's dependent on that the control is by a knob.
Is there any way around this and to have it as a numeric control?
The other way to control the mirror is with the "command." This simply uses a string to send a command to the mirror and works well. However, in order to specify the channel and voltage value, the string needs to read as, "set,0,20.5" where 0 is a channel and 20.5 is a voltage (examples). I would like labview to change the string to coincide with different values calculated by other sources and have the mirror move. However, the code needs the string to be in "control" form. The only way I can see to have the string function where i can change the inputs, would be to use a concatenated string, however then it becomes an indicator instead of a control.
Is there any way to get a concatenated string to function as a control, where I wouldn't have to physically type something in, but instead have LabVIEW determine the values?
I'm attaching the VI's for reference. The VI from the company is quite complicated, so I'm hoping I won't have to alter it too much. I'm sure there's a simple answer just using the sub VI.

Here is some example code to get you started.
There are two vis: Control.vi and app sim.vi The “control vi” simulates your “trying to control with concatenated string.vi” and the “app sim.vi” simulates your d-drive application.
To use these vis, open both front panels. Run the Control vi and change the control values. See how the data is received by the app sim vi.
Notice in the Control.vi how I generate a value change event for the concatenate function using a value signaling property node. This is required by the receiving app to be able to detect that a change has occurred.
Also note that I passed through a stop event to close the app sim vi. The d-drive application does not have an input for this and that is a problem. To cleanly stop the d-drive app you will need to add this functionality (or live with having to stop both vis separately). You will have to read the stop value in two places – in the event structure (lower loop) and also in the while loop (upper loop). I decided at the last moment to include this functionality in the app sim vi so you could see what that might look like.
Note that in the app sim vi I have a comment about dealing with your knob vs numeric issue. This should give you an idea of what you are up against. It really isn’t too hard if you are able to understand these examples.

You can move the iDVD project file to the EHD but you still need plenty of free space on your boot drive for encoding.
It's strongly recommended that a minimum of 20-25 GB of free space be maintained on the boot drive. Otherwise you'll run into what you're experiencing and increased encoding times.

I have a MacBookPro, an iPad and an iMac using a wifi connection with an airport extreme base station. Lately I am having trouble with connection time outs. Right now the laptop and ipad are connected okay but the iMac has timed out and I can't reconnect

Please help. Just the last week or so (maybe since Apple released a new software update for my Airport, I keep getting kicked off the net and can't reconnect - it doesn't even show my wifi network in the list of available networks. I am considering resetting the airport as detailed in the manual. If I do this will it act as a new one and can I set it up as from the beginning. My Mac is running OSX 10.6.8 and if I try to use the airport setup assistant it tells me i can't use this version of the app with the version of my OS (because I have upgraded my OS ) I assume
I get a message saying my network requires a WPA password and when I put it in it says connection timeout - meanwhile here I am on my laptop and connecting okay to the net that way - so strange.
If I connect directly to the computer I have a good connection so it is not my ISP

Resetting the password you will need to do for each device... the utility cannot even see those old units.
So you will have to do it for each one.. think it through.. because as you change passwords the others will lose connection.. so start from the express which are wireless extending .. change those first.. and go back up the chain.. as each one changes it will drop off the network.. until you reach extreme and change that. Then you might need to reboot the whole network to get everything talking again. If something goes wrong.. just pluck that one out of the mix and plug in ethernet.. reset and redo the setup. That is my preferred method anyway.. do everything in isolation one by one. By ethernet and then nothing goes wrong.

You cannot partition a network disk. And apple provided no tools for it in the TC itself. You can pull the disk out and partition it but that voids your warranty. (although done with care who is to know).

Mixing TM and data on the TC is worth planning carefully. They don't necessarily sit happily together.

It sounds SO SIMPLE but i'm STILL having trouble with this!!

Well after tinkering with Java for three years i thought i was pretty comfortable with it but lo and behold i am completely stuck on the SIMPLEST problem: The good ole classpath. I've always run javac from the dir that has my .java files and never needed to specify the classpath before.
But now for this uni assignment i've got to use servlest, requiring sticking the servlet.jar file in the classpath. I CAN'T DO IT!!
I've tried both setting the CLASSPATH variable in DOS and using the -classpath option in javac, but it just won't recognize it!! My .java files and the servlet.jar file reside in the d:\cse3400 directory.
I've typed at the D:\> prompt:
D:\>SET CLASSPATH=D:\cse3400;D:\cse3400\servlet.jar
then executed javac from the D:\> prompt:
D:\>javac ServletContainer.java
and i get the message
count = 0, total = 52
error: cannot read: ServletContainer.java
count = 0, total = 52
1 error
if i type,
D:\>echo %CLASSPATH%
i get
D:\cse3400;D:\cse3400\servlet.jar
i've also tried just typing:
D:\>javac -classpath d:\cse3400;d:\cse3400\servlet.jar ServletContainer
but i get the same thing.
I've tried the above with only one path mentioned (removing the need for ; seperators) but it still can't find the sourcefile unless i'm in that dir or specify the full path with the filename on javac. I've checked and double checked case sensitve stuff, even renaming the dirs to make sure.
So i really need to get servlet.jar in my classpath somehow, coz otherwise i get the error:
ServletContainer.java:12: cannot resolve symbol
symbol : class ServletConfig
location: package servlet
import javax.servlet.ServletConfig;
I've also tried sticking servlet.jar in the d:\jdk1.3.1\jre\lib\ext directory but that don't work either.
I'm running JDK 1.3.1 for win32 but i've also tried (and failed) with JDK 1.2.2 for win32. I've un-installed them both then just re-installed 1.3.1 incase there was some sort of version conflict or something.
Could someone pleeeeeez help??? I've spent about 6 hours trying to find solutions in zillions of places and all i get is set the CLASSPATH in dos or use -classpath, and IT DOESNT WORK!!!

It sounds like you're confused between classpath and sourcepath.
The classpath contains class files - compiled Java.
Java source is usually compiled from the directory that contains it (its root package anyway) or by specifying the directory that contains the source. Don't do this by giving the full filename to the source file since this might lead to confusion over the package the code belongs to.
The generated class files then need to be on the classpath for java to run them.
Compare these two lines, one that does the compiling and one that runs:
javac -classpath c:/jars/servlet.jar ServletContainer.java
java -classpath c:/jars/servlet/jar;. ServletContainerNotice that the java command includes the current directory in the classpath since this is where the ServletContainer.class file will be found after compilation. I don't think that it's necessary to include the current directory in the classpath (java used to look there by default) but if you get in the habit of making your classpath explicit every time you'll have fewer problems with it.
If you wanted to get your code compiled somewhere else you'd do something like this:
cd src
javac -classpath c:/jars/servlet.jar -d ../classes ServletContainer.jar
cd ..
java -classpath c:/jars/servlet.jar;classes/ ServletContainerThis then looks in the classes directory for classes too.

I have a Macbook Air 2.13 GHz 6MB, 2 GB memory and I'm having trouble getting connected to wifi or internet. I've already checked the airport. I've also verified the connection on the router. I am still not successful in getting connected.

Delete all the existing wireless networks you have stored in the MBA under the network setup of the wireless card.
Power off the MBA and power on again and then rediscover the wireless..
Any luck??
If you still have issues.. more info.. what router are you using? How much wireless signal do you get? Can other devices connect and it is just the MBA that has trouble??

Having trouble with pop-up windows and ads for MacKeeper

I've been having trouble with pop-up windows and ads for MacKeeper and similar "services." Tried to download "MPlayerX" a week ago and it all started then. I thought I deleted the file but I'm still having trouble. I've been digging for solutions on here, but nothing I've found on here has worked yet--the VSearch stuff (I think) isn't on my hard drive. Any advice?

You installed a variant of the "VSearch" trojan. Remove it as follows.
This malware has many variants. Anyone else finding this comment should not expect it to be applicable.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/Library/LaunchAgents/com.venus.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
          Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.

The problem may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. When the user edits a numeric control with a keyboard, its property "key focus" is true. When the user hits enter, key focus becomes false. Poll the property to latch the control valuse at the true-false transition. That won't work if the user modify the control using up and down arrows.

sorry I forgot it. but after spending a few hours on the problem this morning, i solved it Apparently, I corrupted the general DAQmx assistant last friday. By restarting my computer this morning, this issue was solved and I was able to transform the constant into command for the input range.

I realize my explanation of my problem is long-winded, so if you want a shortened version, here it is:
I've followed all the instructions trying nearly everything, and no matter what I do, iTunes gives me the error saying: "The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPod's software." My G5 iPod (60GB) works on two other computers (both without any music on them), so I assume there something wrong with my computer and not the iPod itself.
Now for the long-winded story of the last eight hours of my life...
I just got the Generation-5 iPod Video (60GB) a today and I'm having problems already. I followed the instructions and installed the iPod software and then plugged in my iPod (iTunes has been on my computer for a while now). I was expecting iTunes to open after plugging in the iPod, but my device manager only detected and installed "a new device". I manually opened iTunes and got an error saying: "The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPod's software."
After re-installing the iPod software and iTunes, and restarting my computer countless times, I came looking for help here. I found this page, which seemed to outline my problem exactly. My computer recognizes the iPod as a drive, but iTunes won't have anything to do with it. I have all the symptoms outlined in the heading, so I hoped to solve my problem there. I followed the instructions step-by-step, and after the final restart, I open iTunes to get the same exact error message.
I decided to determine whether there was a problem with my iPod or if it was my computer. I plugged my iPod into my uncles's powerbook, and got to the point where I can name and configure my iPod. I expected it to work flawlessly on a Mac (which it did) but there is no way for me to continue using a Mac (after tomorrow) for my iPod. This formatted the iPod for a Mac, so I went to another (different from the original) Windows computer, clean of any iTunes and iPod software, and followed the instructions exactly as they're supposed to be followed. After the installations, I plugged in my iPod, and although iTunes didn't open, I was able to format back to Windows and name my iPod (a step in the right direction). I should note that my (anti-iPod) computer is a Windows XP Pro, and the working one is Windows XP Home Edition. This was all well and good, until I remembered there was no music on this computer. So my iPod is completely working there, but there isn't anything I can do with it.
Next, I came back here and browsed around the discussion boards, hoping to find somebody with a similar problem to mine. There seems to be alot of errors concerning iTunes not recognizing the iPod, but none of the solutions I tried worked for me, including changing the drive letter. I get the "iPod Service Error" while trying to restore to factory settings through iPod updater.
Of course, I could transfer all 32GB of music from one computer to another, but the second (working) computer isn't mine and I won't have access to it in a couple months. It would be most convenient if I could get my iPod working on my own computer. Any help would be appreciated, especially from somebody who has solved this problem or know how to solve this problem.
P.S.
Here are some other minor details that my be important, but I didn't feel they were worth including.
- My brother has his iPod mini set up on my computer, under a different user login. He gets the same error once in a while, but re-installing iTunes always solves the problem for him. I had him try solving my problem his way, but nothing worked for him either.
- My computer is an AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3200+, 512MB RAM with Windows XP Pro SP2 installed. My internal hard drive is partitioned, using the letters C, D and H (C being my system files, D used for recovery files and H for my applications and games). My E drive is used as a DVD/CD-ROM Drive, and drives F and G are reserved for virtual drives (none have been running during this entire ordeal). My external hard drive uses the letter I, and I manually set my iPod to use the letter J (I've never used 'J' for anything else before).
- Yes, I have downloaded and installed the latest versions of iTunes and the iPod software.
- I'm assuming there is a problem with my computer and not my iPod, since it worked on both other computers I tried. I'm hoping it's as simple as changing a registry file or cleaning out (yet another) temp directory.

Solution to "Software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed"!
I battled this same problem for about 5 hours. Going through re-installations, the "5 R's", all these discussion boards. Nothing worked.
The problem is that iPodService was repeatedly crashing after minute or so. You can verify this by hitting Ctrl-Alt-Delete and noting that iPodService is missing from the process list (sort by image name), or by right-clicking on My Computer and selecting "Manage", then going to Services and checking out the IPodService service - if it gives you the option to "Start", then it's not running.
Here is what worked.
1. De-install iTunes and iPod (if you have the updater installed) completely by going to Start --> Control Panel --> Add/Remove Programs. Also delete the C:\Program Files\iTunes and c:\Progam Files\iPod\bin directories. (Don't worry, this doesn't affect your saved music files.)
2. Log in as an Administrator
3. Go into the registry (note this is dangerous - you should be careful) and remove the iPod entries that the uninstaller misses.
3.1 Go to Start menu --> Run.
3.2 Type in "regedit".
3.3 Go to HKEYCLASSESROOT --> IPodService.iPodManager.
There are two keys here, iPodManager and iPodManager.1. In my case, I did not have permission to view either of these. I think this is the root cause of the problem. I think the installer can't properly update these because it doesn't have permission. So you need to change the permissions:
3.4 Right-click on IPodService.IPodManager
3.4.1 Select "Permissions..." A warning will appear saying you don't have permission, but that you can change permissions.
3.4.2 On the window that launches, click on "Advanced..."
3.4.3 Click on the "Owner" tab.
3.4.4 Select a valid account (the one you're logged in under) under "Change Owner To".
3.4.5 Hit "OK".
3.4.6 Back on the main Permissions window, hit Add and add the same account as a valid user.
3.4.6.1 Where it says "Enter the object names to select", type in the account name, e.g. "Smith".
3.4.7 Click on the "Allow" checkboxes for "Full Control" and "Read".
3.4.8 Hit "OK".
3.5 Repeat procedure for the "iPodManager.1" key.
3.6 Now right-click and delete both of these keys.
I think that's all that's required, but I also searched through the registry and deleted the following keys.
4. Other keys I deleted:
4.1 HKEYCLASSESROOT --> IPodManager.IPodManagerUI.1
4.2 HKEYLOCALMACHINE --> SOFTWARE --> Apple Computer Inc. --> iPod
I think that's all I deleted, but I'm not positive. I seached for instances of "ipod" using the Find... and Find Next functions under the Edit menu.
5. Exit out of the registry editor.
6. Re-install iTunes. I re-installed iTunes and reconnected the iPod, and everything worked.
I want to repeat that editing the registry can completely mess up your computer if you modify the wrong things, so only do this if you're comfortable, and be extremely careful.

Folks, I can not take credit for this.....you should send your checks to MarkinMadison. I've included his post in it's entirety. For me, this was the Holy Grail !!
My only comment is make sure when you are in the registry that you hit the "apply" button to change and add things.
This probably won't solve everyone's problem but it clearly solved mine (and I tried all other "solutions"), as well as Mark's.
Apple: please find out who MarkinMadison is and either cut him a big check or offer him free Ipods for life.

I have also posted the same question, earlier today. I purchased two for my children and cannot get the iPod to communicate with the computer. I have the iTunes software on my system, but during the installation process I cannot click the NEXT button, once I plug the iPod cable in. The computer does not detect it. I have tried all 6 USB 2.0 ports. I even removed the Dell Jukebox and MusicMatch programs. I am not a computer savvy person - just a mom who wants to give these to my children for Christmas. This is the first "chat" site I have even registered on. I am so very frustrated. Hopefully, this can be resolved.

I'm using the Integrator named "Projects - Transaction Import" and a custom Layout created based on the seeded Layout named "Transaction Import - Accounted". Do I need to somehow change my Layout to make the Document accept numerical values instead of requiring alpha-numeric values? I need to be able to populate the Document with a large amount of transactions and cannot feasibly go through every transaction to add the alpha-valued name of the account segment to every segment that requires it. The segments in particular causing the problem are "Expnd Type" and "Organization Name" which are both alpha-numeric and as such contain the segment number and name; I need to be able to only have to enter the Natural Account Number (6-digit number only) and the Organization Number (5-digit number only).

How do I copy/paste full numerical-only account strings into the Projects WebADI template when the account segment fields in the template require use of the dropdown because they're formatted as alpha-numeric values? Started having trouble with iTunes so I uninstalled everything and tried to reinstall but it says ' iTunes cannot run because some of its required files are missing. Please reinstall iTunes.' Well, I've uninstalled and reinstalled 5 times. Now what?

I figured it out. A week ago I had downloaded a screensaver from a website I trusted and that's when my problems started. I uninstalled it but that didn't help. So, I reinstalled it then used an uninstall softtware app that cleanns more than the control panel does. Then I used a computer cleaner to be sure everything was wiped clean. And it worked. I downloded iTunes for the 7th time in 2 days and finally it worked! And I lost nothing from my account.
Maybe this info will help others.
