Optimisation of ADF and binding executions

We have an intensive landing page, basically a dashboard, which requrires quite a few invokes on methodAction and Iterator action bindings:
http://www.freeimagehosting.net/q78fe
and the page is quite time consuming to fully render. By this, I mean the HTML gets rendered but we tend to wait some time for the tables/graphs to be populated.
We see a wierd behaviour where certain tables popup before others.
This leads me to think that the page is taking multiple trips to the server to draw the whole page.
my question is:
is it more efficient to have a single bound method (exposed method which sits in the AM Impl java class) that will do all my required actions.
or is it better that the actions are seperate within the page binding?

For better understanding i would go for independent method calls. Now for your issue i did a dashboard for the home page for my ex company and had the same time consuming issue. My take is if we have more than 15 queries executing on a page then it is bound to be fractionally slow as compared to CRUD screens.

  • Creating and Binding View Objects dynamically : Oracle Jdeveloper 11g

    Hello,
    We are trying to create and bind view objects dynamically to adf data visualization components.
    The view object is a result of multiple tables.
    We are using Oracle JDeveloper 11g Technical Preview. ( can't upgrade to TP2 or TP3 now).
    We have found this : http://radio.weblogs.com/0118231/stories/2003/07/15/creatingUpdateableMultientityViewObjectDefinitionsDynamically.html on our search for the same.
    The sample application however, is in 10g , hence required migration.
    Also, it was a standalone application with the TestClient.java having a main() method.
    Our requirement is for Web Application; we use Adf+jsf .
    Guidance of any sort is very much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    there also exist a forum for JDeveloper 11: JDeveloper and OC4J 11g Technology Preview
    What you are trying todo is not trivial because you need to not only dynamically create the VO, you would also dynamically need to create the binding meta data for it (assuming you use ADF). Not sure if the API to modify the binding is public, so posting it on the JDeveloper 11 forum bears a glimpse of hope for an answer
    In JDeveloper 10.1.3 you can't do this

  • Regarding Value and Binding properties of af:inputTextBox

    Hi All,
    I am using JDeveloper 11.1.1.6.0. I want to set the value for af:inputTextBox from the backing bean.
    I observed there are two properties for this component, 'Value' and 'binding'.
    So, I thought of using 'Value' property. For this I created a property in my backing bean.
    Number textBoxValue; //Setter and getter methods for this ( I want to display numbers ans persist the same thats whay i have given as Number)
    and in one of my methods I had given,
    textBoxValue = new Number(12);
    I am able to display the value in the UI
    Here goes my queries, please clarify these.
    1) What is the need of these two properties?
    2) How can set value using the 'Binding' Property.
    3) Can I set value to the input using both properties?
    4) If 2nd point is correct then what will happen, if I set two different values to the textbox using these two components.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Ravi.

    1) Binding is uses as an EL reference that will store the component instance on a bean. This can be used to give programmatic access to a component from a backing bean, or to move creation of the component to a backing bean.
    Value represents the value of the component. If the EL binding for the "value" points to a bean property with a getter but no setter, and this is an editable component, the component will be rendered in read-only mode.
    So they are different.
    2) You don't
    3) You don't
    4) as 2) in not correct this is not relevant
    If you want to set the value of a ui component from inside a bean you have different possible solutions. Lets assume you have a binding for The component to bean. In case of a input text the bean property would be of type RichInputText. Lets the property name be myIPT. Then you set the value as myIPT.setValue("YOUR VALUE"); (if the component shows text).
    If you have bound the value property of the component to a bean attribute (using EL) you only need the change the bean attribute.
    If the value is bound to a value binding (e.g. one that was generated by dragging a VO onto the page and dropping it as form), you get the the value binding by
    // GET A METHOD FROM PAGEDEF AND EXECUTE IT
    // get the binding container
    BindingContainer bindings = BindingContext.getCurrent().getCurrentBindingsEntry();
    // get an ADF attributevalue from the ADF page definitions
    AttributeBinding attr = (AttributeBinding)bindings.getControlBinding("NAME_OF_THE_ATTRIBUT");
    attr.setInputValue("test");Timo

    This has to be something simple. There's only one bind parameter (nullable), and one View criteria...but for some reason, ADF BC wants to bind 3 parms and it blows up. Anyone have any insight as to where the 3rd is coming from?

    Nevermind...you work on something for 2 days, then post to the forum, then figure it out immediately afterwards. The problem was that I had been adding a bind variable, then adding the view criteria that referenced it. Apparently, following this sequence adds Kind="where" to the variable in the xml source. Finally I tried deleting the variable, creating the view criteria, and adding the bind variable WITHIN the Edit View Criteria wizard. Afterwards, I noticed that Kind="viewcriteria" and the light bulb finally turned on. Kind="where" should only be used when you're using parameters in the view's query...or both your query and your view criteria. Who knew.

  • How to handle html:multibox in jsp with ADF Data Binding

    Hi,
    I like to use html:multibox feature in my jsp with ADF Data Binding. I am able to retrieve checked values in the DataForwardAction form. However, when the page is refreshed, the checkboxes are not persistent and yet an error showing
    "JBO-25009: unable to create object type ....oracle.jbo.domain.Array" appears.
    Here is my jsp code:
    <c:forEach var="type" items="${bindings.SystemTypeView1.rangeSet}">
    <c:if test="${Row['SystemGroup'] == type['SystemGroup']}">
    <br>
    <html:multibox property="selectedSystemType">
    <c:out value="${type.SystemType}"/>
    </html:multibox>
    <c:out value="${type.TypeDesc}"/>
    </c:if>
    </c:forEach>
    Can anyone tell me how to handle html:multibox with ADF Data Binding and make the checkboxes persistent.

    Generally this can be done.
    I see a problem with your use case, which has nothing to do with jdev or java:
    How do you identify the user when he comes back to finish the form?
    For this you can't use information like session cookie or IP address because they change.
    So you have to save some information about the user which lets you identify him when he comes back. All other requirements can be implemented by ADF.

  • Non-reproducable issue dynamic domain based dropdownlist and bind parameter

    [JDeveloper 10.1.3. SU5]
    [JHeadstart 10.1.3. build 91]
    Hi,
    Some dropdown lists in our application, which are based on a dynamic dropdown list using a bind parameter (value for the parameter set in Application Definition File, property 'Query Bind Parameters', i.e. theCodeType=LANGUAGE) most of the time work fine, but sometimes (not structural, not reproducable) do not fill and throw the error "Missing IN or OUT parameter at index: 1".
    This is the case for example in LOV's with Advanced search: one of these advanced search fields uses such a dropdown. When entering the LOV, the error is sometimes raised (and the dropdown list is empty), but when you cancel and try again, it always fills successfully without error. So the mechanism works almost always, but in rare cases gives this error, but not always...and a retry always works as well.
    Sounds like a known error?

    I have run into a similar issue recently, using Jdeveloper 10.1.3.1.0 (currently the latest release)

  • Dynamic sql and bind variables

    Hi,
    I have a stored procedure which filters a table on 5 five columns. The filters come from the input parameters,
    and these 5 parameters can come in any combination, I mean some of them may be null and some of them may not be null.
    So I constructed the where filter of the query with IF blocks like the following:
    dynamic_query := 'select * from TESTTABLE where 1= 1';
    IF (P1 is not null) THEN
    dynamic_query := dynamic_query || ' AND column1 = :1';
    END IF;
    IF (P2 is not null) THEN
    dynamic_query := dynamic_query || ' AND column2 = :2';
    END IF;
    IF (P3 is not null) THEN
    dynamic_query := dynamic_query || ' AND column3 = :3';
    END IF;
    IF (P4 is not null) THEN
    dynamic_query := dynamic_query || ' AND column4 = :4';
    END IF;
    IF (P5 is not null) THEN
    dynamic_query := dynamic_query || ' AND column5 = :5';
    END IF;
    OPEN CUR_OUT FOR dynamic_query USING P1, P2, P3, P4, P5;
    The problem is how can I construct the USING and bind parameters, I cannot use "USING P1, P2, P3, P4, P5" because some of bind variables
    may not be in dynamic query if the input parameters are null. Is there a way to overcome this problem without writing all the 2 ^ 5 combinations?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    here it is in the Tomer Cohen way:
    IF (P1 is not null) THEN
    dynamic_query := dynamic_query || ' AND column1 = :1';
    ELSE
    dynamic_query := dynamic_query || ' AND  :1 IS NULL';
    END IF;
    IF (P2 is not null) THEN
    dynamic_query := dynamic_query || ' AND column2 = :2';
    ELSE
    dynamic_query := dynamic_query || ' AND  :2 IS NULL';
    END IF;
    IF (P3 is not null) THEN
    dynamic_query := dynamic_query || ' AND column3 = :3';
    ELSE
    dynamic_query := dynamic_query || ' AND  :3 IS NULL';
    END IF;
    IF (P4 is not null) THEN
    dynamic_query := dynamic_query || ' AND column4 = :4';
    ELSE
    dynamic_query := dynamic_query || ' AND  :4 IS NULL';
    END IF;
    IF (P5 is not null) THEN
    dynamic_query := dynamic_query || ' AND column5 = :5';
    ELSE
    dynamic_query := dynamic_query || ' AND -1 = :5';
    END IF;
    OPEN CUR_OUT FOR dynamic_query USING P1, P2, P3, P4, P5;Amiel Davis

    I am getting an error "A navigation paths parameter object has to be defined - " while fetching the data and bind it in the Tree table.
    Please find the code and screenshot below
    var oModel = new sap.ui.model.odata.ODataModel("../../../XXXX.xsodata/", true);
    var oTable = sap.ui.getCore().byId("table");
    oTable.setModel(oModel);
    oTable.bindRows({
        path: "/Parent",
        parameters: {expand: "Children"}
    Can anyone please give me a suggestion to rectify this?
    Thanks in Advance,
    Aravindh

    Hi All,
    Please see the below code. It works fine for me.
    var oController = sap.ui.controller("member_assignment");
    var oModel = new sap.ui.model.odata.ODataModel("../../../services/XXXX.xsodata/", true);
    var Context = "/PARENT?$expand=ASSIGNEDCHILD&$select=NAME,ID,ASSIGNEDCHILD/NAME,ASSIGNEDCHILD/ID,ASSIGNEDCHILD/PARENT_ID";
    var oTable = sap.ui.getCore().byId("tblProviders");
    oModel.read(Context, null, null, true, onSuccess, onError);
    function onSuccess(oEventdata){
        var outputJson = {};
        var p = 0;
        var r = {};
        try {
            if (oEventdata.results){
                r = oEventdata.results;
        } catch(e){
            //alert('oEventdata.results failed');
        $.each(r, function(i, j) {
            outputJson[p] = {};
            outputJson[p]["NAME"] = j.NAME;
            outputJson[p]["ID"] = j.ID;
            outputJson[p]["PARENT_ID"] = j.ID;
            outputJson[p]["DELETE"] = 0;
            var m = 0;
            if (j.ASSIGNEDCHILD.results.length > 0) {
                $.each(j.ASSIGNEDCHILD.results, function(a,b) {
                outputJson[p][m] = { NAME: b.NAME,
                                     ID : b.ID,
                                     PARENT_ID: b.PARENT_ID,
                                     DELETE: 1};
                m++;
            p++;
        var oPM = new sap.ui.model.json.JSONModel();
        oPM.setData(outputJson);
        oTable.setModel(oPM);
    function onError(oEvent){
        console.log("Error on Provider Members");
    oTable.bindRows({
        path:"/"

  • ERRORS in the Lab - Developer Day: Oracle ADF and Fusion Middleware Dev

    I atteneded the Developer Day on Oracler ADF and Fusion Middleware Development on 11/19. I did the lab (following step by step instructions) and encountered the following errors:
    1) Export to Excel (Step 4, actions 5-9) - Got run-time 500 error when run app. I had to skip these steps to be able to continue with the lab.
    2) Click on Printable Page (Step 4, action 16) - I looks like it works, but nothing shown up on the browser or printing actually happened.
    3) Click on Create Insert (Step 4, action 26) - Got Java.Lang.NumberFormatException
    4) There is no lab for mobile application development. Where should I start? [getting mobile plug-in software, lab tutorials]
    The instructor said that I could post any questions on the Forum. I hope that this is the correct Forum to post these types of questions. Thanks much in advance for your responses.

    Perfect, I get the exact same page when I login, however, this page doesn't have any links to the actual sessions.  If I remember correctly, after logging in another window used to open in which we could select the session to play.
    Please let me know how I can access the session from the page that is displayed after logging in.  Thank you for taking time to check, appreciate your help.

  • Difference between value and binding ?

    hello
    I am afraid I am not clear on difference between value and binding of a component?
    I will appreciate if you supply an explanation.
    kind regards

    Binding? Aren't you talking about JSF? That term doesn't occur in JSP world.

  • Nested Repeater and Binding Problem - Please Help

    I have nested repeaters and binding seems to work with the
    outer repeater, but not with the inner repeater. I have boiled it
    down to a pretty concise case. If someone could offer hints I would
    be most appreciative!
    I understand the objects I am using to store data could be
    different, but it only looks strange because I had to boil down a
    complex case to a simple case.
    Type a user and then an email address then click to add them,
    the user TextInput and label gets created, but not the email
    address label and text input.
    Basically I want users in an ArrayCollection, and their
    multiple email addresses in an ArrayCollection stored in an Object,
    where I get that email ArrayCollection using the user as the key to
    the object acting as an associative array.
    The attached code should compile fine, so please have a go at
    this. Thanks!

    I wouldn't bind to methods like that...I'd make properties
    and bind to
    those.

  • Oracle ADF and Oracle Applications

    Hi All,
    Can we use Oracle ADF with current version of Oracle E-business suite (R11i 2 in my case)? Or we need to use only OAF and ADF can be used only for future release of Oracle ERP?
    It will be great if someone can list the benefits of OAF over ADF for Oracle EBS 11i 2. I want to convince the customer that ADF is not safe or not a good platform for the customizations in current release (R11i 2) and even for next immediate version (R12).
    Thanks in advance,
    CAH

    Hi,
    I don't think ADF can be used with Apps 11i,it can be user in R12(this is my understanding), if you want to run ADF pages from Apps then these pages should be located on External server and you can access this as an External Application.
    As far as customization is concrened, it can't be done using ADF only new Applications be developed in ADF and if you are planning to develop some custom application in Apps then ADf will be a good choice as migration to 11g will be easier(but it will not support Apps specific features like KFF, DFF, Attachments etc.)
    Please check Metalink Note 563047.1 on metalink for this and you can check some articles on this www.apps2fusion.com and Mukul's Blog.
    I hope you will get some clear picture on this.

  • Oracle ADF and OAS licencing

    Hi all,
    I have been doing a research on JSF component, ADF and ADF Faces for our project. I have found some intresting things that
    ADF faces(donated to Apache by Oracle) is free but it is only for front end (not complete) as of ADF.
    ADF is more promising and good frame work. ADF is free to be deployed on OAS. but i am unable to find pricing for Oracle Application Server is it free ?.. and what is the price for Deploying ADF on Tomcat or other Open source Servers...?.Can i get this information I need it urgently. Thanks..

    Hi,
    the Oracle AS licence depends on the edition you want to use. I suggest to get in touch with a local sales office to get the pricing information.
    ADF Faces / ADF deployed to 3rd party servers has a licence cost of 5k USD per CPU (at least this is my latest information. So you better check this too)

  • Oracle ADF and ECM workflow

    Hi,
    I'm looking for ideas on how to implement this which will involve using Oracle ADF and ECM Workflow.
    1. Oracle ADF App that will check-in an item into ECM.
    2. Using Oracle ECM workflow, an email is sent to the manager that a item has been checked in and is ready for review. The manager access the ADF app , clicks on a "Awaiting approval" and reviews the doc(in an iframe), makes comments(if possible) and then approves it in which case it is published or rejects it in which case it sent back to the employee.
    3. I found a similar posting to this Re: Custom pages at each workflow step in UCM
    Thoughts, ideas?
    Thanks.

    Everything, from checking in, to get a list of approvals, is available by services. You can call the service from an ADF and use the result of that service as a dataset to use in a table. In the administration menu, there are WSDL descriptors for each part for example the check in service, the search service, the workflow service,...
