no, I didn't see any message that I had to copy everything somewhere else first.
Is there any other software on the planet that requires this?????  I updated my firefox software a few weeks ago, got no message that bookmarks needed to be saved elsewhere prior to update, so I didn't back them up.  Guess what happened after the update...ALL MY BOOKMARKS WERE STILL THERE!!!
I can't believe that it was not stated more clearly that everything has to be backed up prior to a simple software update!!
Some of the apps were on my itunes, but none of the content nor the settings...so I'm basically starting from scratch.  All this for an update that is probably doesn't change anything anyway.
I maintain my initial message to anyone considering updating their apple device:
CAUTION!!!! CAUTION!!!!!
WHEN YOU GET A MESSAGE THAT YOU NEED TO UPDATE YOUR APPLE DEVICE, SKIP IT UNLESS YOU ARE WILLING TO LOSE EVERYTHING YOU HAVE ON IT AND START FROM SCRATCH.
All of your apps and other content should still be in your iTunes library from when you last synched your iPad. You may need to re-check under each tab to make sure that the content synchs again after the update. As I understand it, the update basically reformats the device.  The content *should* have been restored after the process was complete, but even if it wasn't, you still have not lost it.  It's on your computer, waiting to be re-synched.
Even if your apps somehow were lost from your computer, you can always re-download them for free from iTunes, just as you can for iTunes music. But I doubt that you have lost any content from your computer.

    Hi, Abril_Perez17.
This may be related to a new feature embedded in iOS7 that shows all purchased music by default.  Go to Settings > Music, then turn off Show All Music.  See if the issue ceases once the feature has been disabled.  This information is located on page 63 of the user guide below.

    Hey there Shomail,
It sounds like you are wanting to copy your content from your iPad to your computer. You can trasnfer your iTunes purchases from the device to the computer with the following article:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1848
To transfer iTunes Store purchases from your device to a computer, follow these steps:
Connect your device to the computer. If it is synced with another iTunes library, the following dialog may appear:
    Click the Transfer Purchases button.
Important: Clicking Erase and Sync will delete any existing content currently on your device. The content will be replaced with whatever existing content is in the current iTunes library your device is connected to. If there is no content in the iTunes library, nothing will be synced to your device, and your device will be empty.
Please note that this feature works only for items that were purchased on the iTunes Store. Any items imported from audio CDs or acquired from other sources will not copy from your device to the iTunes library. Please see this article for more details.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,

  • HT204053 my wife and I use the same account but want to change that to where we have our own account. How do we do that without loosing our apps and music?

My wife and I use the same app store account, but we would like to have our own separate accounts. How can we do this and not loose our own personal apps. and music.

One account keeps purchased media, the other will have to re purchase.

  • HT1203 Can I share one iTunes account for my iPad and two I phones? If so, how can I get the purchased apps and music on all three devices? Do I need a home computer,

Can I share one iTunes account for my iPad and two I phones? If so, how can I get the purchased apps and music on all three devices? How do I sync all the devices to have the same music and apps?

You can set up an iCloud account on each one (the SAME iCloud account using the same AppleID on each) and then sync via iCloud.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5262\
However, an iCloud backup nor sync contains purchased content - that is available for redownload from the iTunes and App stores (so no need to waste iCloud space storing it for you).
So, for purchased content, you will have to download it on each device - just use the same AppleID and download each item on each device.
Without a computer to aid the sync'ing, downloading the purchased content on each device is the only way.
P.S  audiobooks cannot be re-downloaded once purchased (all other content can be), so without a computer to save, store and move the audiobook files around, you will only be able to put those on one device - the one you first purchase it on.

  • How to use same apple id on 3 ipods and share apps and music on itunes.

I have three kids with different ipod. My oldest has had hers and already has an itunes account. My other two just got theirs. When i set them up it was not able to use same apple ID (email). It said it was already being used by other device. Is there a way to use the same email for all so I am the onein control of purchaes.....
Also how do i add the other tow to my daughters itunes account so they can share apps and music. I plugged them both in to the pc but than when i go to accounts it only shows the original ipod under icloud. I want to use same itunes and icloud account for all.
Oldes has 4g others have 5g.

Yes. Just use the same account on all the devices.
To allow them ot Message and Facetime one another
MacMost Now 653: Setting Up Multiple iOS Devices For Messages and FaceTime
If you want them to have separate contacts and Calendars and some other things
Create a NEW account/ID for her using these instructions. Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before. Make sure you specify a birthdate that results in being at least 13 years old
Creating an iTunes Store, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store account without a credit card
Use the new ID on her iPod but only for:
    Settings>Messages>Send and Receive
    Settings>FaceTime
    Settings>GameCenter
and Settings>iCloud if you want her to have separate Contacts Calendar and some other things.
Continue to use the same/common Apple ID for Settings>iTunes and App stores so you can share purchases.

  • How do I transfer my apps and music to a new computer

How do I transfer my apps and music to a new computer?  I have authorized my Computer, but when I connect the ipod, it only comes up with the message box "Erase and sync.", I don't get the option to transfer my music and apps onto the Computer.  How can this be achived?  I really don't want the Computer to wipe my ipod.  Any help much appreciated.

    - Transfer iTunes purchases by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    - For other music you need a third-party program like one of those discussed here:
    Copy music
    - Connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up.
    - Restore the iPod from that backup
Note that the backup that iTunes makes does not include media like app and music.

  • I have upgraded my iTunes for Windows and I have lost all my apps and music

I have upgraded my iTunes for Windows and I have lost all my apps and music.
Although i signed in with my iTunes account, i can see only 5 apps (that i downloaded in the last 2-3 days), although on my iPad and iPhone i have more than 100 apps.
If i connect my devices to iTunes, the syncronisation will be made the other way, from iTunes to iPhone/iPad, so i will lose everything.
    1. How can i restore these apps from the iCloud back-ups from my devices to my iTunes? Or any other method possible?
    2. If you can also give me a suggestion about how to find my music playlists, that would save me from a lot of useless work on creating them again.
    Thank you!

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
In the unlikely event that all the media has been inexplicably and permanently removed from your computer, see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • Lost my apps and music on upgrade

Just upgraded my iphone 4 whilst connected to itunes and it has lost all my apps and music!!!! im fuming!

Okay great... lets work on apps first
I think what happend is that the restore must have been to an old back-up without all your info on it.  I went and found a similar solution andt hey are getting their apps back by restoring from an iCloud back-up.
If you have icloud back-up turned on, they you should be able to restore your apps to what they looked like yesterday.
Here is that info - I think it sounds like what you want to do.. right?   We can work on music after we get you sorted on apps.
Please read and see if this is what you want to do....

Re: Why are all my apps missing in iTunes when I backed everything up to my computer?

Alright, your best bet might to be to use the restore from iCloud option, as it will redownload all the apps from your prior device (definitely make sure you're connected to WiFi when you're attempting to do it so that you don't eat through your data plan).
First you'll want to verify that your old iPhone 4 backup is still in iCloud (you can check from your iPhone 5):
On your Home Screen, tap Settings
    Tap iCloud
    Tap Storage & Backup
    Tap Manage Storage
Select the device you want to manage
You should see a backup for the iPhone 4 if there is one. If you tap on that backup, it will give details such as when it was last backed up and the backup size. You'll just want to know that the last backup was able to complete. If you have the iPhone 4 backup still, then you're good to go. If you decide to proceed with the restore (definitely your call and not mine), go all the way back out to the first Settings page.In Settings, tap:
    General
    Reset
    Erase All Content and Settings
How content is restored to a new device
When you go through Setup Assistant on a new device running iOS 5 or later, choose "Restore from iCloud Backup" and enter your iCloud account and password. You will see the three most recent backups for each of the devices on which you enabled Backup. Choose which backup to restore from.
After your device restarts, your settings and accounts are restored and Backup starts downloading your purchased music, movies, TV shows, apps, books, Camera Roll, and other content.
Note: You may be prompted to enter the passwords for all accounts enabled on your device. You may also be prompted to enter the password for for any iTunes, iBookstore and App Store accounts for which iCloud Backup is attempting to restore content.
A progress bar will appear underneath the apps that are being downloaded. To prioritize the restore of a specific app, tap its icon. Restore will attempt to download the same version of the app that you had installed previously. If that version is no longer available, the latest version of the app will be restored.

  • Error code 1004 keeps coming up on my iPhone 4 when trying to download apps and music through wifi

My iPhone 4 keeps coming up with error 1004 when trying to download apps and music via wifi

Tks heaps for that, had a look at Store and ITunes sections, not overly helpful unless I am missing something.
My issue is that on my computer she would update her iPhone with Software updates via iTunes.
I have gone and deleted her backups that were still sitting on there.
If I want to update my Apps on my iPhone when due her Apple ID and password request will come up as an option to use that account if I knew the password and it's synced from my Computer even though she has been gone 7 months now. Is it a syncing issue or is her Apple ID stored in my iTunes backups somehow and keeps coming back? Do I need to de-authorize her account from my Computer?

  • HT204053 when i get my itouch repaired if i lose anything will the iCloud will be able to sync back my apps and music back on, if so how?

when i get my itouch repaired if i lose anything will the iCloud will be able to sync back my apps and music back on, if so how?

Create an iCloud backup before sending it in for repair.  Also consider making a second backup on your computer using iTunes (connect it to your computer, open iTunes, click on the name of your iPod in iTunes, go to the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings and click Back Up Now.  Also go to File>Devices>Transfer purchases).  If you have photo stream photos that you want to save, save them to your camera roll before backing up and they will be backed up too.
When you get it back from repair, restore the backup as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766.  Your iPod should then look just as it does now.

  • Synicing apps and music please help mee!

    hello all,
this all started a few months back i cant rember how many but i found out i could shop on my ipod for apps and music etc.. anyway i hardly ever used the pc for anything even charging cause i have a wall charger in my room so i kinda have gotten used to not shopping on the itunes store on the pc. well a few days ago i decided i better stop being lazy so i pluged in my ipod touch to shop on itunes and well i asked a question and it got anwsered so i transfered my apps and music stuff into the pc so i can shop well when i got to the apps part of my itunes menu on my ipod info it has apps and stuff underneath it faded? so theres this little tick box thing beside it so i click on it and this is what it came up with (i copied it all out everything you see is what it actually said)
"are you sure you want to sync apps? all existing apps and their data on the ipod "mins ipod" will be replaced with the apps from this itunes library"
i dont want to click on it before i ask people so my question is does anyone know what i should do?
    please help me!

Syncing to a new computer or iTunes will erase the content of your device and replace it with the content of that iTunes.
To make sure that your settings, data and apps are transferred to your computer, back up manually and restore from that backup afterwards. Here's how to do.
Make sure your new computer is authorized in iTunes with the same account. Disable autosync in itunes, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data, pictures and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your ipod got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.
    Restoring: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • Backed-up iPhone onto computer, got new iphone, restored from backup, apps and music are gone!?

I have read that this is a common question, but I just don't understand and need it explained to me in a simple manner.. I'm not very "tech savvy".  Why would music and apps NOT be included in a back up?? Where are they now? Apple replaced my iPhone so I don't even have to old one for reference.  I can re-download my apps at no extra cost, but it seems like in order to re-download my music, I would have to pay for it again! What to do???

Apps and music do not need to be saved in the backup, they are already in iTunes. iTunes contains your music library and your apps. Apps can be transferred to the iTunes library as necessary, but music should be housed there. If it is all music that you downloaded from iTunes, then you can put it there the same was as you do apps, but transferring purchases.
