Ora-00439 enable block change tracing
Hi,
I am attempt to use the feature ENABLE BLOCK CHANGE TRACKING and cannot obtain succefully. When I issue the statement:
sql> alter database enable block change tracking;
I get the error:
ORA-00439 - feature not enable
My estructure is: Red Rat 4 and Oracle 10.2.0.1
Samebody can help me?
I suspect the message means that the feature is only available with the Enterprise Edition. Check the documentation for the standard edition.
If the feature is available with the standard edition then use the full syntax where you specifiy where you want the block change tracking file written to and see if that makes a difference. I believe the default with 10g is to go to the database flashback directory. If you did not configure one then that could be a problem. If you used the full syntax and do have a flashback area but that was not where you tried to place the file I would try defaulting it.
I lean to the feature not being available in your version.

Enable Block Change Tracking in 11gr2
Hi Team,
If my database file system is in ASM..Can I enable blk change tracking in local filesystem?
Or IS it better to do in ASM? Any new features in 11gr2?
Regards,
ManoharDo you plan running DUPLICATE against that DB?
If yes, you should place the Block Change Tracking File in a location that would enable you to effectively deal with this nasty bug:
"Bug 10193846 - RMAN duplicate fails with ORA-19755 when BCT file is not accessible [ID 10193846.8]"
Also, If you plan to use DUPLICATE, you should “name” your Block Change Tracking File, rather than going with the system name.
This advice applied only for 11gR2 versions that are affected by the bug.

Hello,
I have a Oracle 10.1.0.5.0 on Windows 2003. My need to enable block change tracking. So I login SQL PLUS as sysdba:
SQL> ALTER DATABASE ENABLE BLOCK CHANGE TRACKING USING FILE
'HOME/DB_INSTANCE/BLOCK_CHANGE.TRC';
ALTER DATABASE ENABLE
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00439: feature not enabled: Block Change Tracking.
I have read some documentations and this is command I should use. Please help me where I can enable this feature.
Many thanks!According to the metalink note 271197.1, the fast incremental feature is not included in the Standard Edition.
As suggested earlier, check the Edition you are working on.

How to multiplex the block change tracking file?
Hi,
I have a question to change block tracking feture.
The normal way to enable block change tracking would be:
ALTER DATABASE ENABLE BLOCK CHANGE TRACKING
USING FILE 'mydir/change_track.f'
REUSE;
What if my harddrive is gone?
Is there anyway to define more than one destinitaion like for archive log files? The difference is... archive log files can contain irreplaceable data.
With Block Change Tracking the data is not irreplaceable , just run full RMAN backup and then regen the file. <- IMHO -

Block change tracking and Backup size
DB Version : 10gRelease
We have a Differential Incremental Backup strategy with Recovery Window retention policy. I haven't enabled BLOCK CHANGE TRACKING. Just would like to know if the backup size of both Level 0 and Level1 backups become smaller by enabling Block Change Tracking. Or is it just Level 1 backups' size which is going to decrease?
Thank you.An excerpt from Oracle RMAN 11g Backup and Recovery by Robert G. Freeman & Matthew Hart
ISBN: 978-0-07-162861-7
The Block Change Tracking File
By default, when doing an incremental backup, any datafile that has changed in any way will be
backed up. This can make incremental backups take longer and will make them larger. RMAN
offers the ability to just back up changed database blocks. +This can make your incremental+
+database backups much smaller and shorter.+ To enable block change tracking, issue the command
alter database enable block change tracking. The result of this command will be the creation of a
file called the block change tracking file (BCTF).Checkout the word smaller.
Two things:
A. This is not Official oracle documentation ( Oracle press though)
B. This book is about 11g. I don't know if BCTF makes backups smaller in 11G. -

FALSEAs suggested already, you need to install the Partitioning option from the OUI. Please run OUI from your oracle home (locate it from Start>All Programs) . It will load a product listing file, in the end , a listing of features would be shown to you which would show Partitioning as a new install . Do the installatation and you should be fine.

Error: ORA-00439: feature not enabled: Managed Standby
Hi there, after I turned on auto archiving in the init.ora file (altered archivelog) and started up the DB, I get the error "ORA-00439: feature not enabled: Managed Standby" while starting up the instance. Under the Alert log, it said License_max_session = 0 and license_sessions_warning = 0. Is that mean I need licenses in order to turn Auto archiving on? how?
PS: I can "alter system archive log start to '...';" though when the instance is open.
Thanks,
-HarryI couldn't agree more with Kin..
Are you running Enterprise Edition? If not, Managed Recovery Mode, is available only with the Enterprise Edition of 8.1.x. This
may be why you are getting this error. Also, check v$option and see what 'Managed Standby' option shows, TRUE or FALSE. If
FALSE and you are running Enterprise Edition, then you may want to post to the Microsoft forum regarding getting this installed.
It would also help to know what your 'compatibility' parameter is set to.
I have read numerous...views..
some syntoms:
- enabling my database mode to archivelog
However when you take out the parameter
log_archive_dest_1 parameter and added the old log_archive_dest paremeter then database opened fine.
also if you remove the word location and the
character =
it might just work.
hope this helps

Partitioning option enabled but still getting ORA-00439
Hello,
I'm facing a weird situation. I'm trying to import some partitioned tables on an instance, and it fails with the following error:
IMP-00003: ORACLE error 439 encountered
ORA-00439: feature not enabled: Partitioning
However when I check v$option it seems to be available:
Partitioning TRUE
I'm using Oracle Enterprise server 10.2.0.3 64bit on Linux RedHat 4.5 x86_64
Anyone can help me?
Regards, and thanks in advance. Thanks all for your responses. Eventually, I reinstalled Oracle software and everything went fine then.
What I do not come to understand is why v$option reported Partitioning as enabled when it really was not...
Once again , thanks a lot.

Got ORA-00439: feature not enabled: Fine-grained access control
Trying to implement VPD, I've got ORA-00439 when implementing Fine-grained access control. Will this be available on XE?
Hi,
lewisc: Yes. I mean "persistent package variables" and I know this feature is available in any version of Oracle. But, I don't know how It works whith HTMLDB when using "HTMLDB Authentication Scheme".
i.e.: when I connect to an HTMLDB Application, I can see a new session on
V$SESSION with username=ANONYMOUS with SID=xxx and SERIAL#=yyyy.
1.-Will HTMLDB use the same session until User Press "logout" link?
2.-Will this particular Database session be exclusive or shared for any HTMLDB sessions?
3.-If I Logout from HTMLDB App, then Login again, Will HTMLDB reuse the same session?
or will create a new one?
-About VPD.
VPD is a Personal Edition feature too. All features of EE is
available on Personal Edition except RAC and a few others
specials features.
After all:
Maybe with these examples you can see my question.
CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW myviewname
AS
SELECT *
FROM mytablename
WHERE somecolumn = V('Fxxx_HTMLDB_ITEM_NAME')
CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER mytriggername
BEFORE
INSERT
ON mytablename
FOR EACH ROW
BEGIN
:new.mycolumn1 := V('Fxxx_HTMLDB_ITEM_NAME');
END;
Can these two examples work? If so, maybe there is something wrong in my applications.
Thanks GaryM for your issues and I already know this can be done that way -
Hi plz help me out Ora-2097,ora-00439 error
hi plz help me out .i'm getting this error in alert log file
ora-2097 :parameter cannot be modified because specified valued is invalid
ora-00439: feature not enabled: database resource managerDo you know what parameter may have changed?
The error indicates something about the database resource manager so that may be a clue.
If you have a backup of the init.ora file now would be the time to pull it out.
If you really get stuck comment out all parameters except what you think you really need and then add them in one by one until you find the culprit. -
ORA-00439 error when deploying a simple dimension
Hello,
I am using Oracle Warehouse Builder 11g SE to try to implement a simple data warehouse.
I have created the dimensions and cube using ROLAP, defined simple mappings and added process flow and was now trying to deploy the objects.
When i try to deploy a dimension using the Control Centre it fails with the error message:

I have been looking at the ddl script created for the dimension and can see nothing which indicates that materialized view or query rewrite should be used.
The sql script is shown here:

CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW "RDW".LOCATION_DIM_v AS
SELECT *
FROM RDW.LOCATION_DIM
WHERE DIMENSION_KEY >= 0
CREATE DIMENSION LOCATION_DIM

ATTRIBUTE "STORE" DETERMINES ( "RDW"."LOCATION_DIM"."STOREID", "RDW"."LOCATION_DIM"."STORE_CITYID", "RDW"."LOCATION_DIM"."STORENAME", "RDW"."LOCATION_DIM"."STORE_CITYNAME" )
am I missing something here?
