ORA-00933 error when selecting from remote DB

Hi to all.
Consider the following:
SELECT col1, col2 FROM Table1@remoteOK.
SELECT col1, col2 FROM Table1@remote LEFT JOIN Table2@remote ON (...)OK.
INSERT INTO Local_Table (a, b)SELECT col1, col2 FROM Table1@remote
OK.
INSERT INTO Local_Table (a, b)SELECT col1, col2 FROM Table1@remote LEFT JOIN Table2@remote ON (...)
ORA-00933: SQL command not properly ended.
Is this some kind of restriction or is this a bug? Any workaround?
Any advice will be appreciated.
Best regards, beroetz

Yes but this is a regular operation and the INSERT is the only opportunity.
BTW, look at what else I have just found:
INSERT INTO Local_Table (a, b)SELECT col1, col2 FROM DUAL INNER JOIN Table1@remote ON (1=1) LEFT JOIN Table2@remote ON (...)
OK.

  • ORA-01031 insufficient privileges  error when selecting from a view

    OK I think this might be a dumb question but I can't figure it out:
    User John has been granted SELECT privilege (directly, not through a database role) to schema FRED.table1;
    User John can issue select * from FRED.table1; and it works just fine.
    User John has then been granted SELECT privilege (directly, not via a database role) to schema
    MARK.view1;
    MARK.view1 only selects from FRED.table1. No other tables are in the view1.
    Schema MARK can successfully query the views. SELECT * FROM VIEW1 returns results.
    I also checked the MARK schema to ensure that it has been granted SELECT on FRED.table1 directly which it has.
    Now, when logged into schema John, I try SELECT * FROM MARK.VIEW1; and I get ORA-01031 insufficient privileges error.
    I'm not sure how to troubleshoot this. If John is granted SELECT ANY TABLE, it of course works but I don't want John to have that powerful priv.
    To recap, John has SELECT on both MARK.VIEW1 and the table which VIEW1 selects from (FRED.TABLE1).
    John can select from FRED.TABLE1 no problem but receives a privilege error even though John has SELECT on MARK.VIEW1.
    Any thoughts?
    Oh, Oracle EE 10.2.0.4

    Oh, Oracle EE 10.2.0.4Are you certain John has been granted select on Mark.view1 ? In order for that to work Mark would have to have been given select on Fred.table1 WITH GRANT OPTION ... otherwise the grant would fail and then John would not be able to select from the view because the grant was never successfully issued.
    Here's a basic test case (which i think conforms to what you've outlined) to get it working.
    drop user u1 cascade;
    drop user u2 cascade;
    drop user u3 cascade;
    create user u1 identified by u1;
    grant connect, resource to u1;
    create user u2 identified by u2;
    grant connect, resource, create view to u2;
    create user u3 identified by u3;
    grant connect, resource to u3;
    connect u1/u1@orcl
    create table test1 (col1 number);
    grant select on test1 to u2 with grant option; --> this is the important part
    grant select on test1 to u3;
    connect u2/u2@orcl
    create view test2 as select * from u1.test1;
    grant select on test2 to u3;
    connect u3/u3@orcl
    select * from u2.test2;

  • ORA-00933 error when filtering in grid implementation

    Hi,
    I am implementing the workshop grid function and set up the SQL statement in dbcontrol
    as follows, please note the SQL statement join two tables:
    SELECT S.ID,S.SAMPLE_ID,S.SAMPLE_CODE,S.SAMPLE_BATCH,S.SALTCODE
    FROM LOPROJ.LO_SAMPLES S,LOPROJ.LO_MASTER_COMPOUND_LIST M
    WHERE M.SAMPLE_CODE=S.SAMPLE_CODE AND M.PROJECT_ID = 16337
    {sql: filter.getWhereClause ()} {sql: filter.getOrderByClause ()}
    and I have code in grid.jsp as following:
    <netui-data:basicColumn filterable="true" title="Id" sortable="true"
    name="id"/>
    <netui-data:basicColumn filterable="true" title="Sample_id" sortable="true"

    <netui-data:basicColumn filterable="true" title="Sample_code"
    sortable="true" name="sample_code"/>
    <netui-data:basicColumn filterable="true" title="Sample_batch"
    sortable="true" name="sample_batch"/>
    <netui-data:basicColumn filterable="true" title="Saltcode" sortable="true"
    name="saltcode"/>
    the data are properly retrieved from the database and rendered in grid view, however,
    when I tried to do filter for individual column, I got the following error:
    An exception occurred in the action begin
    ORA-00933: SQL command not properly ended
    I have code in begin action as following,
    public Forward begin()
    throws Exception
    sortFilterService = SortFilterService.getInstance( getRequest() );
    allRows = myControl.getAllLoSamples( getSortFilterService().getDatabaseFilter(
    getGridName() ) );
    allRows.last();
    row_count = allRows.getRow();
    return new Forward( "grid" );
    I am wondering whether the workshop filter class does not apply to joining of
    two tables? Any suggestion is appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Zhenhao--
    At the very least, the SQL statement generated below will have two
    WHERE clauses; the substitution {sql: filter.getWhereClause()} will
    create a WHERE clause that will be inserted into your SQL after the
    previously declared WHERE.
    It would probably help here if you changed the getWhereClause()
    method to getFilterExpression(), which will just return the expression
    without the WHERE keyword.
    Hope that helps...

  • Java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00933: error when  executing query

    Hello,
    I am trying to execute the following query from a jsp page.
    String sqlUpdate ="UPDATE table_name SET name ='"+name+"', description='"+description+"', proj_link='" projlink"', active='" active"',sort_order='" order"',image='" image"',category='" category"', technology='" technology "' WHERE id="+id+" ";
    stmt.executeQuery(sqlUpdate);
    I get the follwoing error java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00933: SQL command not properly ended
    When I omit "description" from the query it executes fine. But when I place it back into the query I get the above error. The table is in Oracle database and the datatype of description id varchar2(4000). I declared all the variables used in the query, I then assigned values caught from the form and then am trying to update the form varibles in the table.
    Thanks,

    Hello,
    I am trying to execute the following query from a jsp page.There's a big part of your problem. You shouldn't be doing database stuff in JSPs. If you must, you should be using JSTL and its <sql> tags.
    String sqlUpdate ="UPDATE table_name SET name ='"+name+"', description='"+description+"', proj_link='" projlink"', active='" active"',sort_order='" order"',image='" image"',category='" category"', technology='" technology "' WHERE id="+id+" ";Not using PreparedStatement here is just a silly noob error.

PreparedStatement will eliminate that problem.

    Brijesh,
    Really appreciate your help!
    With your hint (#2), I found my problems.
    I had 2 problems:
    1) I'm missing the 'Model' clause at the end of my view creation (in bold )
    2) I shouldn't do a count on all rows (e.g. I get result if I select with parameters)
    Here's my working view:
    CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW SALES_VIEW2

    SELECT * FROM TABLE(OLAP_TABLE(
    'DW DURATION SESSION',

  • Giving Error When Selecting From a Custom Table

    There is a custom report 'Z*'  which archives data.
    In this report, while selecting data(needs to be archived) from a custom table 'Z*_T', giving runtime error in Production Server.
    The select statement is written below :
    *data izX like z_t occurs 1000 with header line._
    *select * from z*t into table i_zX.*_
    How can I change the select statement so that it will work properly?

    Sas..
    From your example code it appears you are trying to use a wild card for both your dbtable and the internal table.
    To do this, you will lilkely need to use a Field Symbol for the target internal table and your FROM will need to be a varible
    FROM (dbtabname)
    The ABAP Helps gives this example for the Select Table
    DATA  TABNAME(10).
    DATA: BEGIN OF WA,
            ID   LIKE SCUSTOM-ID,
            NAME LIKE SCUSTOM-NAME,
            REST(134),
          END OF WA.
    TABNAME = 'SCUSTOM'.
    SELECT * INTO WA FROM (TABNAME).
      WRITE: / WA-ID, WA-NAME.
    ENDSELECT.

  • 00933 error when clicking on the data tab for the selected table

    Hi,
    I'm getting the following error when selecting a table from the tree view then clicking on the data tab:
    An error was encountered performing the requested operation:
    ORA-00933: SQL command not properly ended
    00933.00000 - "SQL command not properly ended"
    *Cause:
    *Action:
    Vendor code 933
    The exact same tables created from sqlplus for a different user in the same database work fine. Note, I'm not typing any SQL in myself. It would appear this happens on all tables created as this user. I cannot see any difference between permissions for this user and others which work but the failing user does have a "-" in the username and password which I'm suspicious of.
    This is SQL Developer v 1.2.0 (build 29.98) (the most recent I believe, Oracle Database 10g Express Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0 and Linux ubuntu.
    Thanks
    Martin

    "-" is not allowed in identifiers and is almost certainly the cause of your problem. This can be got round by quoting i.e. using "STUPID-NAME" instead of STUPID-NAME.
    I'm slightly surprised that SQLDeveloper doesn't quote the statement. Perhaps it quotes table names but not user names.

  • Why am I getting an ORA-04052 error when I try to compile a Procedure?

    Hi,
    The following procedure I'm getting an ORA-04052 error when I try to compile the following procedure.
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE APPS.Find_String (
    pin_referenced_name IN dba_dependencies.referenced_name%TYPE)
    IS
    cursor cur_get_dependancy
    is
    SELECT distinct owner, name, type
      FROM [email protected]        -- prod.world
    WHERE lower(referenced_name) = lower(pin_referenced_name) --'ftbv_salesrep_all_1d'
       AND referenced_type <> 'SYNONYM'
       AND owner <> 'SYS'
    order by name;
    v_owner  varchar2(40);
    v_name   varchar2(50);
    v_type   varchar2(40);
        BEGIN
           dbms_output.put_line(upper(pin_referenced_name)||' is found in the following objects.');
           dbms_output.put_line(' ');
           dbms_output.put_line(RPAD('OWNER', 30, ' ')||RPAD('NAME', 60, ' ')||RPAD('OBJECT TYPE', 30, ' '));
           dbms_output.put_line('-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------');
            FOR i IN cur_get_dependancy
            LOOP
                v_owner := RPAD(i.owner, 30, ' ');
                v_name  := RPAD(i.name, 45, ' ');
                v_type  := RPAD(i.type, 30, ' ');
                dbms_output.put_line(v_owner ||v_name|| v_type);
            END LOOP;
    END find_string;I'm using the link [email protected]. The procedure compiles for other database links used in the cursor including the one commented to the right of the code 'prod.world'.
    What's even stranger is that I took the SELECT statement
    SELECT distinct owner, name, type
      FROM [email protected]        -- prod.world
    WHERE lower(referenced_name) = lower(pin_referenced_name) --'ftbv_salesrep_all_1d'
       AND referenced_type <> 'SYNONYM'
       AND owner <> 'SYS'
    order by name;out of the procedure and ran it on the command line using the @pinp.world link, the SQL statement ran just fine. But when I tried to compile the above procedure with that exact same SQL statement with the exact same link I get the following string of errors.
    ORA-04052: error occurred when looking up remote object [email protected]
    ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
    ORA-02068: following severe error from PINP
    ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channelHow can the link work just fine in a regular SQL statement but then cause an error when its compiled in code that otherwise compile just fine when using any other link or even just a plain database. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    OK Justin,
    Here's the query by itself run in another database using the @pinp.world link and querying the dba_dependencies table in the pinp.world database. As you can see the query using this link works just fine returning the requested rows. I can't figure out why the compiler is having an issue with essentially this same query when I try to compile it in a cursor in TOAD. Also this is the database (dev1.world) that I'm trying to compile this Procedure in.
    By the way I'm in an Oracle 9.2.0.6 database and TOAD v9.2.
