ORA-01034 creating new database with Oracle 8i for NT

Hi everyone!
I've succesfully installed Oracle 8i Stanard Edition 8.1.6 on a server Intel with 256 Mb Ram and Windows NT Server 4.0 with SP6a. I've succesfully created a standard database but if i try to create a custom database the creation stops with ORA-01034 error: Oracle not available. Can anyone help me?
Thanks
Luca

That error message usually represents the fact that Oracle is not running. Check the task manager services tab and see if Oracle is running.
It can be configured to start automatically if it is not already.

how to create a database with oracle express. the web based interface for managing oracle sucks and it is too slow, they'd bet better of developing a rich client application for managing XE. Oracle XE comapraed to SQL Express is very poor.

Try to post it Oracle Database Express Edition (XE)<br>

  • How to CREATE a DATABASE with ORACLE?

    Hello
Can somebody please just tell me, how do i create a Database with Oracle 10g(Express Edition)? I find it very disturbing that not in one of the dozen Orcale books i have, they explain to you on how to create a DATABASE. They begin with how to create Table, can a table exist without a database?
I have tried the command line, but it tells me im not connected or some kind of error. I have tried SQL Commands and then it gives me this Error:*ORA-01501: CREATE DATABASE failed*
    ORA-01100: database already mounted
How come Oracle dont have just a simple button:CREATE DATABASE?

  • How to create new database on Oracle 10g

    Hi All,
Can any one tell me how to create new database on oracle 10g.
Thanks in Advance for your help.

    again some confusion here.....
u said u need a new database in your first post and now you saying u need a new schema..
one database has many schemas(users)..... ex: scott, sys, system are few of them...
now it depends you need seperate database for test, dev environment - this is in the case u have many schemas under each database and many tables(objects) under each schema.
    OR
You just need a separate schema (in same db) for test, dev environment...where in you will have multiple tables in each schema...U need to know the dba credentials of the db to create a new schema.
ideally u need to have different database...You can create one with out sys/system(oracle users) password as these passwords are db dependent.
what you need is access to the any machine where server is installed(can be the same mc where you have your dev db or a diff machine) and that will be the machine where your db will be installed (can do it through database configuration assistance),ofcourse you will need windows authentication for this.
so you login to the same machine or access it from your machine using remote login.
I hope that is clear.Hope i am not listing things that you already know..Just did it coz of confusion between db and schema

  • Why i can't not create new database in oracle 10g express

why i can't not create new database in oracle 10g express?
should i use oracle 11g standard edition?
    thanks

In Oracle a schema is what a 'database' is in Sqlserver.
And if you would have been aware about the limitations of XE, you would have known you can only create *1* (one) database using Oracle XE.
However, probably you don't need a new database at all, and a schema will suffice.

'NEW' doesn't seem to be the right word here, but you can DUPLICATE (clone) an existing database or restore it to a new host:

  • Creating Standby database with Oracle 10gR2 SE (no dataguard). Procedure

    Hello,
I have problems in creating a standby database without Dataguard (Oracle Standard Edition)
-Oracle 10gR2 SE (No DataGuard !!!!)
    - SUSE Enterprise 10.
Both primary and standby databases are running in Virtual machines (lab).
I will describe the exact steps I followed :
    1.---------------------------------------------------
Both primary and standby databases have exactly the same file / folder structure
    2.---------------------------------------------------
I enabled archive log mode with a new destination : /opt/oracle/oradata/orcl/archive_logs.
    Also : SQL> alter database force logging;
    3.---------------------------------------------------
I shut down the primary database (shutdown immediate)
    4.---------------------------------------------------
I created a standby controlfile on the primary database:
    SQL> startup mount
SQL> alter database create standby controlfile as '/tmp/standby.ctl'
    SQL> shutdown immediate
    5.---------------------------------------------------
I did a cold backup from the primary db to the standby db
(I copied all the db files, control files, redo log)
    6.---------------------------------------------------
I copied from the primary db to the standby db the standby control file
    (from primary /tmp/standby.ctl)
    7.---------------------------------------------------
I copied from the primary db to the standby db the standby control file
    (from primary /tmp/standby.ctl)
    8.---------------------------------------------------
I created on the standby database a pfile from the spfile :
    SQL> create pfile from spfile;
    9.---------------------------------------------------
I edited the pfile and changed the controlfile location (with the standby controlfile created in step 4)
    >>>>> *.control_files='/opt/oracle/oradata/orcl/standby.ctl'
    10.--------------------------------------------------
    I started the standby db
    SQL> startup mount pfile='/opt/oracle/product/10.2/db_1/dbs/initorcl.ora'
    SQL> alter database recover managed standby database disconnect from session;
    SQL> quit
    11.--------------------------------------------------
I made some changes on the primary db on user scott
    SQL> update table set .......
    12.--------------------------------------------------
I switched logfile on the primary db
    SQL> alter system switch logfile;
    13.--------------------------------------------------
I manually copied the new archivelog to the standby db
    And then nothing !!!
The db changes are not applied.
Please help me fix the procedure !!!
    Thanks

    Hi
Ref to your Oracle SE Standby issue, we were in similar situation couple of years ago to build an Automated Standby for our disaster recovery on Oracle SE. We finally got a solution provider Anbul Technologies , they have a one of their solutions based on Oracle SE which provided fully automated Standby in Oracle SE.
We are successfully running that solution in our prod env for many years. You can visit their site www.anbultechnologies.co.uk or contact them for further details. They are Uk based but provides support and services all over Europe.

    Roop.IT.Tech wrote:

one more thing is that how to assign connection with JSP. i need code if possible.Create a DAO class which does all the JDBC task. Then create a servlet class which has an instance of the DAO class. In the doGet() or the doPost() do your DAO thing, store the result in the request scope and forward the request to a JSP. In the JSP file use JSTL/EL to display the data to the world.

You can create a clone database using DUPLICATE DATABASE command as it's shown in the following video tutorial:
    http://kamranagayev.com/2010/06/25/rman-video-tutorial-series-creating-duplicate-and-standby-database-using-rman/
Or perform disaster recovery using backup files using the following video tutorial:

    Hi Rafael
Did you change your shm values in the kernel ? Please check those values in 2.6 Configuring Kernel Parameters
    64 bits: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b15667/pre_install.htm#i1011296
    32 bits: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b15660/pre_install.htm#sthref264
Note that you have to increase : semmni, semmns, shmmni should be multiplied by # of instances, SHMMAX should be set to avail memory
Can you please give us your values from your server please?
    Your physical memory :
    grep MemTotal /proc/meminfo
    And also the result of
    ipcs -l
which release of Linux are working with 32 bits or 64 bits ?

  • HELP: Problem creating a new database in Oracle 9i

I am having difficulty in creating a new database in Oracle 9i, on Windows 2000. I would be obliged if somebody can go through the posting below and guide me as to what mistake I am making or what is the source of the problem:
I reproduce the steps taken by me.
I have decide the database to be called Mydb. I have made the following directories:
    -- d:\mydb
    -- d:\mydb\data
    -- d:\mydb\control
    -- d:\mydb\log
    -- d:\mydb\bdump
    -- d:\mydb\cdump
    -- d:\mydb\udump
    -- d:\mydb\archive
    -- d:\mydb\pfile
    -- d:\mydb\scripts
    -- d:\mydb\exp
I copied the initoracle.ora file to d:\mydb\pfile\initmydb.ora, and made the following changes to it:
    -- db_name = mydb
    -- instance_name = mydb

    -- core_dump_dest = d:\mydb\cdump
    -- user_dump_dest = d:\mydb\udump
    -- remote_login_passwordfile = exclusive
Also, I created a text file called d:\Oracle\Ora90\DATABASE\initmydb.ora with the following contents:
    ifile=d:\mydb\pfile\initmydb.ora
At DOS prompt, I run the following command:
    set oracle_sid=mydb
I run the ORAPWD utility to create internal password file at the command prompt.
    d:
    cd \oracle\ora90\database
    orapwd file=pwdmydb.ora password=panther entries=25
I create a Windows service for the database as follows:
oradim -new -sid mydb -startmode a -pfile d:\mydb\pfile\initmydb.ora
    I get connected:
    sqlplusw /nolog
    connect sys/change_on_install as sysdba
    startup nomount # pfile=d:\mydb\pfile\initmydb.ora
    create database mydb
    MAXINSTANCES 1
    MAXLOGHISTORY 1
    MAXLOGFILES 5
    MAXLOGMEMBERS 5
    MAXDATAFILES 100
    datafile 'd:\mydb\data\system.dbf' size 325m REUSE

undo tablespace undotbs datafile 'd:\mydb\data\undo01.dbf' size

    NATIONAL CHARACTER SET AL16UTF16
    logfile group 1 ('d:\mydb\log\log1.log') size 1m,
    group 2 ('d:\mydb\log\log2.log') size 1m,
    group 3 ('d:\mydb\log\log3.log') size 1m;
Now I get the following error:
    create database mydb
    ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01092: ORACLE instance terminated. Disconnection forced
The data files, control file, redo log files are all created. But the above error comes, and I am unable to start the database. What is the reason?
    Thanks in anticipation.
    PS

    Hi DENIS,
I have executed the following commands (which are in a script file),
    1. sqlplus /nolog
    2. connect sys/change_on_install as sysdba
    3. create database ...
    4. ...
When I execute the 3rd command, I get an error message as "ORACLE TERMINATED FORCED" and it will end the session. So when the next set of commands in the script are executed, I got the error saying "DATABASE NOT OPEN".
    How to rectify this problem.
    Thanks in advance,
    Kiran

  • ORA-27103, can not create a database with dbca 10gR2 in SL3

    Hello,
I'm just trying to install Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.1.0) , Enterprise/Standard Edition for Linux x86 in Scientific Linux CERN Release 3.0.8 (SL) following the instructions
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe10gdb/install/linuxpreinst/linuxpreinst.htm
The installations goes right, but when I try to create a new database with dbca assistant I got the following errors while copying database files
    ORA-27103: internal error
    using the scripts:
    startup nomount pfile="/u01/app/oracle/admin/samdb/scripts/init.ora";
    ORA-27103: internal error
    Linux Error: 13: Permission denied
    Additional information: 101
    Additional information: 134920812
I've checked the permissions but they seem ok, so I wonder if anyone could figure out what I'm doing wrong.
    Thanks in advance

the error is dropped when there is an issue with the (db) block size, needs to be a multiple of the system page size, or when there is an issue with the heap allocation,
    so please check init.ora/spfile parameters
maybe an strace -frt -s 512 gives a hint
