ORA 01438 error help

Hi: I am using a different vendor's binary client to update in oracle 9.2.0.6. I am having difficulty figuring out which field is it having problem with. The client is trying to do an update. Since it's a binary client, I can't see the actual update command. Following is the error.

Its a type of trigger that will be invoked by Oracle whenever you establish a new connection to the database. Within the body of this trigger, you could EXECUTE IMMEDIATE sql_trace to TRUE to enable trace for that session.

Thats a bug in SOA 11gR1.The problem is with the precision of the column COMPOSITE_INSTANCE.LIVE_INSTANCES currently defined to be NUMBER(3) which can at the most hold a value up to 999. As there is no explicit limitation on this column, the correct way to handle this is to increase the precision of this column to accommodate more instances.

Trace column for ORA-01438 Error

Hi
I encountered the following error while trying to insert into a table using bind variables in a program:
ORA-01438: value larger than specified precision allows for this column
I enabled trace for 1438 with errorstack level 4 in order to capture the bind variables being passed into the sql using the following sql:
alter system set event='1438 trace name context forever, level 4' scope=spfile;
A trace file is being generated after encountering the error again and I tried to use tkprof to read the trace file, however, I do not see any bind variable in the file. Is there something wrong? How do I trace the column which is causing the problem?

Hi,
With scope=spfile in your alter system command you tell Oracle just to put this into the server parameter file. This file just gets read while startup the database. If you want to set it for the instance now you have to define scope=memory, and if you want to use it now and after a restart you have to type scope=both or just nothing about scope, because both is the default.
Set the parameter with scope=memory and try it again!
Or when you running this in PL/SQL just capture the exception and give out the current value.

ORA-00600 Error Help required

I am getting Error ORA-00600 for a procedure which tries get
a CLOB as output paramater. It is a simple stored proc which is
just querying to get this data.
However it fails at times giving ORA-00600 error which we have
no clue why it's happening.
There is sufficient space in the server and also we have
restarted the database several times.
Any pointers to why is this happening.

Ora-08102 - error help me out

dear all,
Im getting ora-8102 error
"ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
ORA-08102: index key not found, obj# 49, file 47, block 25578 (2)" while im creating index on newly created table . I found the suggestion doc from metalink for the same. but it didn't work. because the obj#49 is the index (I_CON2) which related to table CON$. so im not able to rebuild the index as suggested in metalink.
Im getting the same erorr for all schema even creating new table with constraints.

Ora 12154 error help needed

Hi,
I am a newbie in oracle forms. I have installed oracle database 10gr2 on windows xp in c directory. In D drive i have installed oracle developer suite 10g. When i try to connect database from developer suite i receive ORA 12154 error.
Do i need to change tnsnames.ora in developer suites 'D' directory or in database'C' directory.
Please explain me in steps so that i can configure developer suite.

and create Alias for Local naming

Either you're not giving the full picture here, or you missed:
(issued from the session that has an outstanding transaction on your table) So:
-Are you capable of indentifying sessions that lock 'your' table? (Any tool available?)
-Do you have a DBA around you can ask?
-Database version?
-acces to datadictionary views like V$LOCK amnd V$LOCKED_OBJECT
-is this a development or a production problem? (I think it's a development problem)
any other suggestions???Give the full picture here, instead of letting us 'fire guesses at you'.

You cannot drop an index being used to enforce uniqueness. You must drop the constraint - which will also drop the index. You also cannot drop a unique constraint being used as a reference of a foreign key. Adding the keyword CASCADE will allow you to get around that, but it will destroy the FK references.
alter table tableName drop constraint constraintName CASCADE ;

ORA-01438 error while inserting the BLOB value in the column

Hi All,
I have created a table with definition:
CREATE TABLE stories (id NUMBER(4), story BLOB);
Now I am trying to populate this table with some values from other table with:
insert into stories
select sensitivity_id, multi_value from sensitivity where sensitivity_id=3983021541;
Here the multi_value column from th source table is also declared as BLOB so I shlould not get this error. What kind of precision needs to be set so the query doesnt faills?

Catching ORA-01438 live / value larger than specified precision allowed for

I've yet another question! Is it possible to catch the ORA-01438 error right away before the user submits the data?
I have a db column that is used to store numbers of length 3,0. When entering 4 digits, the ORA-01438 is raised.
The Apexlib doesn't work, since I have some conditional regions on that particular page!

ORA-01438 when trying to save a large procedure

At a customer in a relatively large project we recently upgraded from ODI 10... to 11.1.1.5.0. Today someone tried to save a long procedure (around 300K). Trying to do so resulted in an ORA-01438 error. In the previous version of ODI this error never occured.
ODI is running on Windows, the repositories and target tables are on Oracle database.
Is there a known limitation to store such long procedures, or can this behaviour be configured somewhere?

Today I was searching for some more information about this issue.
In the same work repository we have some other(very small test) projects. In these we are able to store the same procedure which fails in the main project.
Now I assume some repository corruption. Is there a way to increase logging of ODI to find out additional information.
Some additional information about our environment:
Database: Oracle
Version: Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production
With the Partitioning, Oracle Label Security, OLAP, Data Mining and Oracle Database Vault options
Driver: Oracle JDBC driver Version: 11.2.0.2.0
On the same database server are the master repository and a work repository which have been migrated from 10.1.3 to 11.1.1. The repository was not cloned. We only made a backup of this repository.
Additionally I tried to export the current main project and import it in a new work repository which was created after the upgrade of ODI. The import then failed with the same ORA-01438 error.

Error during Compression of an InfoCube (ORA-01438)

I have searched the SDN and OSS Notes for the ORA-1438 error but cannot find anything helpful.
Has anyone else come across this during a compression.
By the way, the compression on another cube works okay, just seems to be this cube and it is the first request I am trying to compress on this cube.
We are on BW 3.5 with an Oracle DB release 9.2.0.7.0.

CDC Failed with Error ORA-01438: value larger than specified precision

Hi,
I have created Asynchronous Distributed Change Data Capture Set-up as per the Guildines from Oracle.
Now My Change Set has become Invalid with error: ORA-01438: value larger than specified precision allowed for this column.
I Compared Change Table Structures with Source Table on Source Database and the structure is matching.
Now I am trying to Run below script:

I am getting the below error:

Still the error is existing, I couldn't find any issues with Change Table structure as it is in Line with Source Table Structure.
Can anyone please help me on this.
Staging Database details:
Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0 - 64bi
TNS for Linux: Version 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
Source Database details:

Also Can anyone let me know if it is possible to run CDC Set-up without DBA Privileges. i,e once the CDC Set-up is done, if we revoke the DBA Privilege will the Capture work properly. I know that for creating Change Table, Set and Source we require DBA Access. But once the set-up is done, do we really require DBA Privileges?

Hi Shashi,
As CDC is built on top of Oracle streams framework, for better responses you can post this ques under {forum:id=70} category.
"ORA-01438: value larger than specified precision allowed for this column" is usually encountered for NUMBER datatype columns. At what level did you check the datatypes? Please confirm if the precision(for NUMBER datatype) are also similar.
Please attach output for the following queries:
select error_message from dba_capture;
select error_number, error_message from dba_apply_error;Please re-validate the data types and then run the same API with remove_ddl = 'Y' option, like this:
exec DBMS_CDC_PUBLISH.ALTER_CHANGE_SET(change_set_name=>'CHANGE_SET_NAME' , recover_after_error=>'Y' , remove_ddl=>'Y');

ORA-01458 error while using Pro*C to invoke PL/SQL procedure, pls help

I am using Pro*C (Oracle 10g on Itanium platform) to invoke PL/SQL procedure to read RAW data from database, but always encoutered ORA-01458 error message.

where sumsg_msg_data.msg_data%TYPE, sumsg_msg_data.msg_data1%TYPE and sumsg_msg_data.msg_data2%TYPE are all defined as RAW(2000). When I test the PL/SQL code seperately, everything is ok, but if I use the Pro*C code to read, the ORA-01458 always happen, unless I change the SIZE_DATA_SEG value to 4000, then it passes, and the result read out also seems ok, either the bigger or smaller value will encounter ORA-01458.
I think the problem should happen between the mapping from internal datatype to external VARRAW type, but cannot understand why 4000 bytes buffer will be ok, is it related to some NLS_LANG settings, anyone can help me to resolve this problme, thanks a lot!

It seems that I found the way to avoid this error. Now each time before I read RAW(2000) data from database, i initialize the VARRAW.len first, set its value to SIZE_DATA_SEG, i.e., the outside buffer size, then the error disappear.
Oracle seems to need this information to handle its data mapping, but why output variable also needs this initialization, cannot precompiler get this from the definition of VARRAW structure?
Anyone have some suggestion?
