Hi
ORA-19809: limit exceeded for recovery filesYou have two options now. First is to set the db_recovery_file_dest_size to a bigger size (if you have disk space available ie) and second to use RMAN to delete the archivelogs.

Dear All,
I am using oracle database 10g release2 on linux platform............
I am just moving logsegment type object from one tablespace to another tablespace.
But due to low space for redo log file my alter query was hanged on and not completed sucessfully. and the directory is showing full.
then i abort the query by shutdown database by using shutdown immediate command.
After that when i m trying to startup my databse in normal mode i am getting following error....

so pls suggest me the solution to resolve this problem.

Check your Archive log location capacity , used & free.
If archive mount point/FRA is full , then either take backup archive with delete option into another mount point'
or
as part of emergency you can move those archives into different mount point.
Once there is enough free space, bring database back again. Post if any errors again

[demo oracle test10]$Your DB is not able to archive a logfile, because of no more space in FLASHBACK area. If you have enough space on disk you can increase the value of DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST_SIZE parameter, if not you should take one of other actions above to reduce occupied space in directory identified by DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST parameter.
Anyway, you should periodically clean up the flashback area in some way.

• Please HELP with ORA-19809: limit exceeded for recovery files

Hi Gurus,

You need to increase the FRA by changing the parameter DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST_SIZE. Create a parameter file while being connected as Sys user and issue,
sql>create pfile from spfile;It would create the pfile in the Oracle_Home/database folder. Edit that file and increase the parameter to a larger size-like double of it's current value. Save the file and issue,
sql>startup pfile=<your location of the file>HTH

• ORA-19809: limit exceeded for recovery files and flash_recovery_area

Hi.
I am getting the below errors (at the end) when trying to backup the database using RMAN.
The directory structure is
E:\oracle\TEST
E:\oracle\TEST\flash_recovery_area
E:\oracle\TEST\flash_recovery_area\arch --> HAS ARCHIVE FILES
E:\oracle\TEST\flash_recovery_area\TEST
E:\oracle\ATEST\flash_recovery_area\TEST\BACKUPSET --> RMAN backup sets
E:\oracle\TEST\flash_recovery_area\TEST\ONLINELOG --> This is empty.
D:\oracle\product\10.2.0\ is oracle home
It has:
D:\oracle\product\10.2.0\admin
D:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db1
D:\oracle\product\10.2.0\oradata
D:\oracle\product\10.2.0\oradata\test has data files.
1) I created this database using OUI and DBCA and I have a feeling that this structure is somewhat convoluted. Could you let me know if this needs to be changed?
2) Secondly, the RMAN error. The entire size of E:\oracle\TEST\flash_recovery_area is now only 1.74 GB yet I am getting this error.
I deleted old archive logs from E:\oracle\TEST\flash_recovery_area\arch . Currently it has only arch logs for seven days. Next I issued delete expired archivelog all command. Right now crosscheck archivelog all finds only 40 archive logs..
and increased db_recovery_file_dest_size to 10GB. alter system set db_recovery_file_dest_size=10000M scope=both;
select name
, floor(space_limit / 1024 / 1024) "Size MB"
, ceil(space_used / 1024 / 1024) "Used MB"
from v$recovery_file_dest
order by name
This query is returning the use space as 6GB. However physically only 1.74 GB is currenly used. Please let me know the way forward. Appreciate in advance.

• Oracle Not Starting : error ORA-19809

Hello All,
I was trying to start the 11gr2 database and getting the following error. Please can any one give some advise ? I manually deleted all archive logs using OS command but still i get the
same error when i try to start the database.
ORA-19815: WARNING: db_recovery_file_dest_size of 4039114752 bytes is 100.00% used, a nd has 0 remaining bytes available.
You have following choices to free up space from recovery area:
1. Consider changing RMAN RETENTION POLICY. If you are using Data Guard,
then consider changing RMAN ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY.
2. Back up files to tertiary device such as tape using RMAN
BACKUP RECOVERY AREA command.
3. Add disk space and increase db_recovery_file_dest_size parameter to
reflect the new space.
4. Delete unnecessary files using RMAN DELETE command. If an operating
system command was used to delete files, then use RMAN CROSSCHECK and

Oh well. So you " *think* database need to be started before you do any thing with RMAN"

We don't need the database to be open for this, just have the control file mounted:

Hi,
Since the error ORA-19809 indicates the lack of space in flash recovery area during the media recovery, I suggested increasing the value of the parameter DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST_SIZE.
Yes, during the media recovery the RMAN will restore the archived log to the default destination (only if the required archived logs are not already on the disks).You can confirm the restore location of the archived log in RMAN restore log/destination specified by parameters log_archive_dest_1/db_recovery_file_dest.

• Physical Standby with ORA-19809 and ORA-19804

My 10.2.0.3 physical standby produced the below errors, although it remained up. I am wondering if I ran into Bug 6432837, except “select FLASHBACK_ON from V$DATABASE” returns “NO”. I was able to increase the size of DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST_SIZE to get around it. However, I fear I have only prolonged the problem, since I have not a viable work around. I’m using the Grid Control to administer both Primary and Standby. It doesn’t seem to allow me to back up the standby, nor do I know how to crosscheck archive logs.
Ideas? Suggestions?
You have following choices to free up space from flash recovery area:
If an operating
system command was used to delete files, then use RMAN CROSSCHECK and
DELETE EXPIRED commands.

ARCHIVELOG 100 0 7340Your FRA on the standby side is full - with archivelogs. Archivelogs transferred to the standby are not removed automatically,yourself have to take care of this. As soon as the archives are applied to the standby you can delete them (assuming you do appropriate backups on the primary side). Nevertheless you may take an additional backup on the standby:
backup archivelog all delete all input;
delete obsolete noprompt;
If retention policy is set to redundancy 1 (the default), a backup of the archivelogs is made,the backed up archivelogs are deleted and then the previous backup of older archivelogs is also deleted.
So you should no longer run out of space.

Can anyone help !
thanks, Jim

ok here's the wierd thing. When I set up the primary, physical standby and logical standby, I set the following Log Archive Destinations on my primary database ( into the SPFILE )
ALTER SYSTEM SET log_archive_dest_1='LOCATION=USE_DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST VALID_FOR=(ONLINE_LOGFILES,ALL_ROLES) DB_UNIQUE_NAME=PRIMARYP' SCOPE=BOTH;
ALTER SYSTEM SET log_archive_dest_2='SERVICE=STANDBYP ASYNC VALID_FOR=(ONLINE_LOGFILES,PRIMARY_ROLE) DB_UNIQUE_NAME=STANDBYP' SCOPE=BOTH;
ALTER SYSTEM SET log_archive_dest_3='SERVICE=STANDBYL ASYNC VALID_FOR=(ONLINE_LOGFILES,PRIMARY_ROLE) DB_UNIQUE_NAME=STANDBYL'
SCOPE=BOTH;
ALTER SYSTEM SET log_archive_dest_4='LOCATION=USE_DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST VALID_FOR=(STANDBY_LOGFILES,STANDBY_ROLE) DB_UNIQUE_NAME=PRIMARYP' SCOPE=BOTH;
Then I converted to using DGMGRL instead od SqlPlus to manage my Data Guard Environment. I then did a switchover to my Physical Standby and then a switchbach to my primary. Today when I check the log_archive_dests on my primary, they are completely different from how I set them up originally !
*.log_archive_dest_1='service="STANDBYL"','LGWR ASYNC NOAFFIRM delay=0 optional compression=disable max_failure=0 max_connections=1 reopen=300 db_unique_name="STANDBYL" net_timeout=30','valid_for=(all_logfiles,primary_role)'
*.log_archive_dest_2='service="STANDBYP"','LGWR ASYNC NOAFFIRM delay=0 optional compression=disable max_failure=0 max_connections=1 reopen=300 db_unique_name="STANDBYP" net_timeout=30','valid_for=(all_logfiles,primary_role)'
*.log_archive_dest_3=''
*.log_archive_dest_4='LOCATION=USE_DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST VALID_FOR=(STANDBY_LOGFILES,STANDBY_ROLE) DB_UNIQUE_NAME=PRIMARYP'
As you can see there is no setting place for the standard archive logs for PRIMARYP !
When I set log_archive_dest_3 to
'LOCATION=USE_DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST VALID_FOR=(STANDBY_LOGFILES,STANDBY_ROLE) DB_UNIQUE_NAME=PRIMARYP' SCOPE=BOTH;
Then I am able to open the PRIMARYP database again.
Q. what cause the entire resetting of the 4 log_archive_dest_n settings ? I am presuming it is something the broker has done ( presumably on the switchover or switch back ) ? However it seems to have completely mucked itself up, not even provising a standard archive log destination for PRIMARYP and in the process causing the instance not to be able to start
Has anyone ever seen this before ?
Also now I am getting ORA-16783: cannot resolve gap for database STANDBYP, STANDBYL
In my Broker Config for the PRIMARYP database. I am worried because during the investigation of this problem I issues the following on PRIMARYP
alter database clear unarchived logfile group 1;
Have I created a Gap which I cannot resolve ?
thanks,
Jim

Hi,
My RMAN archive script gives the following error. I'm not sure why - there is still about 16 GB diskspace and an archivelog is not more than 50 MB. Does anyone know what could be the cause of this error? Thanks.
