ORA-27067: size of I/O buffer is invalid

Hi Experts,
Today we have faced the below error in our ASM instance alert log file.. the day before we have moved one schema datafiles from one location to another another location ..and it is successfuly and the schema is accessble and verified ... we are not understaiding why exactly we got that error.
error :"ORA-27067: size of I/O buffer is invalid"

Are you trying to install a seeded database from a preconfigured template? If yes, there's a bug with such a configuration, if the seeded files are read-only.
Here the statement from Oracle:
Bug 3996124 Abstract: RMAN CANNOT RESTORE BACKUPSET ON READONLY MEDIA
Bug 2835956 Abstract: RMAN CANNOT RESTORE FROM READ-ONLY BACKUPS
When DBCA creates a database from a template, it uses RMAN on the seeded files Seed_Database.ctl
and Seed_Database.dfb
The bug is that RMAN cannot restore a file that is read only.
Since the files Seed_Database.ctl Seed_Database.dfb are not read/write, DBCA gives the error.
Solution
To implement the solution, please execute the following steps:
1. Change the file permissions to 644 on the files.
2. Run the installation again.

  • ORA-01044: size of buffer bound to variable exceeds maximum

    Hello Oracle Gurus,
    I have a tricky problem.
    I have a stored procedure which has to retun more than 100,000 records. In my stored procedure, I have "TABLE OF VARCHAR2(512) INDEX BY BINARY_INTEGER". It fails when I try to get 80,000 records.
    I get an error "ORA-01044: size 40960000 of buffer bound to variable exceeds maximum 33554432"
    A simple calculation shows that 512*80000=40960000.
    Oracle help suggests to reduce buffer size (i.e., number of records being returned or size of variable).
    But, reducing the number of records returned or reducing the size of variable is not possible because of our product design constraints.
    Are there any other options like changing some database startup parameters to solve this problem?
    Thanks,
    Sridhar

    We are migrating an application running on Oracle 8i to 9i and found the same problem with some of the stored procedures.
    Our setup:
    + Oracle 9.2.0.3.0
    + VB6 Application using OLEDB for Oracle ...
    + MDAC 2.8 msdaora.dll - 2.80.1022.0 (srv03_rtm.030324-2048)
    I am calling a stored procedure from VB like this one:
    {? = call trev.p_planung.GET_ALL_KONTEN(?,?,{resultset 3611, l_konto_id, l_name,l_ro_id, l_beschreibung, l_typ, l_plg_id})}
    If setting the parameter "resultset" beyond a certain limit, I will eventually get this ORA-01044 error. This even happens, if the returned number of records is smaller than what supplied in the resultset parameter (I manually set the "resultset" param in the stored procedure string). E.g.:
    resultset = 1000 -> ORA-06513: PL/SQL: Index der PL/SQL-Tabelle ungültig für Language-Array vom Host
    resultset = 2000 -> OK (actual return: 1043 Recordsets)
    resultset = 3000 -> ORA-01044: Größe 6000000 des Puffers für Variable überschreitet Höchstwert von 4194304
    resultset = 3500 -> ORA-01044: Größe 7000000 des Puffers für Variable überschreitet Höchstwert von 4194304
    ... therefore one record is calculated here 7000000/3500=2000 bytes.
    In Oracle 8i we never had this problem. As this is a huge application using a lot stored procedures, changing all "select" stored procedures to "get data by chunks" (suggestet in some forum threads in OTN) ist not an option.
    Interesting: I can call the stored procedure above with the same parameters as given in VB from e.g. Quest SQL Navigator or sql plus successfully and retrieve all data!
    Is there any other known solution to this problem in Oracle 9i? Is it possible to increase the maximum buffer size (Oracle documentation: ORA-01044 ... Action: Reduce the buffer size.)? What buffer size is meant here - which part in the communication chain supplies this buffer?
    Any help highly appreciated!
    Sincerely,
    Sven Bombach

    Can anyone help me resolve this error?
    Thanks,
    Ashok

    Hi,
    We finally got this issue resolved. I think the error was because the source database server was running 64 bit Oracle 9.2.0 and we installed a 32 bit Oracle 9.2.0 database on the target server. We then did a fresh install of 64 bit Oracle 9.2.0 database on the target server and the restoration worked. Also, after copying all the backup files to the target DB server, change the access rights of all those files and the folder containing them to 777.
    Thanks,
    Ashok

  • Dynamic history size of xy chart buffer

    Hi all..
    My question is that when I wanna plot dynamic xy graph I should use xy chart. Till here everything is ok. But the option""history size"of xy chart buffer forces me to determine how many points of history data will be displayed. But  what i want is that not fixing it, i wanna see all measurement points till i stop the measurement. thats why i connected to history size option to loop number indicater so that after each measurement i would be able to see all the previos datas till i stop the loop. But it doesnt work!! Does my approach is wrong?

    Sima is right.
    You cannot have an unlimited history size on a computer with limited memory and resources (Yes, even gigabytes is not infinite). If course you can make your own history buffer by growing the x and y data in shift registers, but at one point during run the system will bog down due to constant memory reallocation operations. Also you cannot possible display more data that fits on a typical screen.
    Typically there is some knowledge on an upper boundary, so you can preallocate suitable buffers. If the history is bigger than fits in memory, stream to disk and add some mechansims to browse through history data by reading selected portions back.

  • ORA-27102: out of memory SVR4 Error: 22: Invalid argument

    Hi all,
    I'm doing an install of a Solaris 10.2, Oracle 10.2 system. During the Create Database phase, I am getting;
    ORA-27102: out of memory SVR4 Error: 22: Invalid argument
    Doing some research, and reading through the details here:
    Link: [http://technopark02.blogspot.com/2006/09/solaris-10oracle-fixing-ora-27102-out.html]
    I think my issue is my SHM parameters, reinforced by the repeated entry in the Oracle Alert log:
    +WARNING: EINVAL creating segment of size 0x0000000085000000+*
    +fix shm parameters in /etc/system or equivalent+*
    when the create fails.
    I am not familar with Solaris' new project mechanism, although from what I have read, it seems to be set up properly.
    Here are my server details:
    # prtconf | grep Mem
    Memory size: 8192 Megabytes
    # prctl -n project.max-shm-memory -i project 200
    project: 200: QBI
    NAME    PRIVILEGE       VALUE    FLAG   ACTION                       RECIPIENT
    project.max-shm-memory
            privileged      10.0EB      -   deny                                 -
            system          16.0EB    max   deny                                 -
    And as for Oracle:
    shared_pool_size = 1522029035
    shared_pool_reserved_size = 152202903
    pga_aggregate_target = 2705829396
    sga_max_size = 3439329280
    db_cache_size = 1159641169
    During the course of troubleshooting, I have:
    1 - Increased the amount of SHM allocated in the project. I have tried 16GB, 8 GB, 10 GB, 11GB etc, to no effect, so I reset it to 10GB (as seen above) and focused my efforts elsewhere.
    2. SHARED_POOL_SIZE - I have decreased this by roughly 75% from the original value, again to no effect.
    3. PGA and SGA sizes - I have increased these from the original values by an increment of 25%
    Following the advice from the referenced blog (which does a good job of explaining the logic behind the actions) I have determined that the Alert log error message is telling me that it is lacking
    2231369728
    (Hex conversion value, which I think I need to read as 2GB, not 100% sure)
    I've increased my project allocation, and the PGA sizes, did I just not do it enough?
    Any advice?
    Thanks for any input,
    Troy Shane

    Hi,
    Most the error is due to the 32 bit datafiles being running on a 64 bit version of oracle.
    Running utlirp.sql (this is going to invalidate most and then recompiles them again )
    I suppose..that is the problem with your DB.

    CC t.cc -library=stlport4 && truss -t write ./a.out > /dev/null
    will show that it uses buffer-size of 4096
    The same with 12.4.
    This example will work if we exchange the order of the two cout...  lines.
    Without library=stlport4 it works fine.

    Yes, that looks like a bug in STLport. I have filed bug 18810043 for you. If you have an Oracle Solaris Studio service contract with Oracle, you can request a fix.
    The workaround is simple: move the sync_with_stdio call to the top of main.
    In fact, the effect of calling sync_with-stdio after any I/O operation can vary among implementations, so doing the call first is better programming practice anyway.

    Help please.

    Maybe the file was corrupted.
    Have you a backup ?
    Have you still the init.ora file ? Try to restart your db with an pfile instead, then recreate a spfile.

  • ORA-06502: PL/SQL :character string buffer too small

    Dear Sir,
    Hi, in htmldb I am trying to create package body, but when I select the package name which I already have the specification part for it, and click next I got this error.
    what should I do please help thanks

    What do you mean "execute the package"?
    Your parenthetical suggests that you want to compile the package body in the SQL Commands window. If that is the case, just type all that code in there and click the Run button (everything from "create or replace up to but not necessarily including the slash ('/') after the last "end" statement.
    If you mean "execute" then you can run any of the functions or procedures in the package (after it is compiled) in the SQL Commands window using PL/SQL anonymous blocks.

    HI,
    I am working on oracle 10g multimaster replication.

    I more problum i am facing is when i stopped ( quiesced ) the replication activity.
    my stored procedures on the master site start giving error like
    sqlcode =*-23326*  sqlerrm=*ORA-23326: object group "PUBLIC"."MYREPGRP" is quiesced*it means if i stop replication my database will not work while i am using asynchronous
    replication.
    i want my master database to work in any situation either replication is working or not.
    Thnaks

    Make sure the replication object you want to drop really exists.
    check dba_repobject and dba_objects views.
    select sname, oname, type, status, gname
    from dba_repobject
    where oname='AC_CHECK'
    [pre]select owner, object_name, object_type
    from dba_objects
    where object_name='AC_CHECK'
    Regarding ORA-23326.
    This error occurs if the replication status is QUIESCED and you want to execute DML transaction against a replicated object.
    While the replication status is QUIESCED no DML transactions are allowed against the replication objects.
    Usually you want to stop the replication (suspend the master activity) if you want to perform maintenance activities (drop/add rep objects). This should be done in off hours and should be planned. You should be aware that no DML transactions are allowed while the master activity is suspended.
    Also be aware that when you try to suspend the activity, the database will try to push and apply all the pending transactions. This may take some time (depends on the size of the transactions). So it is good practice to make sure there are no transactions that are waiting in DEFTRANDEST queue.
    If you want to read more how the QUIESCED state affects the database activity, please refer to the following link:

    Thanks alotThis probably is not specific to your .NET application. If you can reproduce this from SQL*Plus please post this over on one of the OTN database forums, as there a lot more DBAs over there who could potentially help you.
