Ora enterprise linux and oracle 10g take 2

Hey;
Ran into a snag and was hoping to get a tip from the experts. I installed oracle enterprise linux w/o issue and got everything configured per the installation directions. When I run the installer, I'm getting a library error:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: /tmp/OraInstall2009-06-09_09-51-41AM/jre/1.4.2/lib/i386/libawt.so: libXp.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
A google search result says that I'm missing the XFree86-libs which seems to be accurate as I don't see the rpm Oracle enterprise linux uses the xorg X11, not the xfree so I'm a little concerned about breaking something if I download and use that one.
A search on otn here shows that I'm missing the xorg-x11-deprecated-libs which is also true. I don't see that rpm in the list of ones on the installation media. I then searched through all the rpms on the install dvd for libXp and found nothing.
Should I find and download xorg-x11-deprecated-libs or is there something else that's not right? The verbiage says that oracle enterprise linux has everything I need so the apparent missing library probably means I screwed something up along the way.
Thanks for any info/hints/tips.

Hey;
A little more searching later and I found most of the solution. It seems the libxp rpm didn't get installed. I installed that from the install media w/o issue. I'm still getting the same error though. I've confirmed that the library is now on the system and available in /usr/lib64 so I'm suspecting a library path issue.
If anyone knows how to set that in linux off the top of their heads, I'd appreciate the tip.
Thanks for putting up with me...
Doug

    Hey;
    This one doesn't seem so easy to work around. The oracle installer seemed to run fine all the way through to the point where it was creating a new database. I got an error stating:
    ORA-19624: operation failed, retry possible
    ORA-19870: error reading backup piece.
    Ignoring it doesn't seem to do anything and aborting finally gets me out of the installer without a database created. I ran dbca and got the same error.
    This sounds like I might have a borked oracle 10g download... does that seem right? The version is 10.2.0.1 Maybe I'll try the non-64 bit version.
    thanks for any info supplied...
    Doug O'Leary

    Hey;
    Thanks for the suggestion. That concerns me as the 64 bit oracle 10g download cksum is the same as listed on the download page. I may have some other issue going on here other than a bad download then...
    Thanks.

  • Oracle enterprise linux and oracle 10g?

    Hey;
    I'm pretty new to trying to download oracle and get it installed on a linux box. I made a couple of attempts on linux fedora core 10 and windows vista home edition both of which didn't get very far. Since I just past my ocp exams via a boot camp (yay for me!), I'm hoping to get a couple of linux boxes up and running to ensure I get the concepts down through practice.
    From what I'm reading, it looks like I can download enterprise linux, put that on a system, and then download oracle 10g and install that w/little or no trouble (at least not expected...)
    Am I reading that right or did I miss something? Any info greatly apprecaited.
    Doug O'Leary

    Hello,
    You can download enterprise linux and 10g and get going. Enterprise linux is pre-packaged for the required components required to install oracle software, here is a link for your future reference to see platform compatibility.

  • Tomcat 4.0 and Oracle 10g takes 100% CPU and grinds to a halt

    Hi, I have a system to support that is currently running on Tomcat 4.0 on a Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 machine with 3.06Ghz, 4Gb Memory, 2Gb Page file connecting to an Oracle 8.1.6 database on a Windows NT 4 virtual server with 3.2Ghz, 1152Mb Memory, 1536Mb Page file.
    I have another Windows virtual server 2003 R2 SP2 machine with 2Gb of memory and a 4Gb page. This server has Tomcat 4.0 and an Oracle 10.2.0.3.0 database. I have made sure that the Oracle 10g classes12.jar file is used.
    I am trying to run the application on the new server. In some tests I had users logging on one by one for the first 5 users - performance was great and the application ran faster than the current live system. When I then got another 10 - 15 people logging on the CPU stuck at 100% on the server, even exploring the server was almost impossible, and the application slowed down to unworkable.
    We dont know if the problem lies with the very fact that we are trying to connect to a 10g database which is cost based and the application was written using rule based Oracle 8. Or is it the virtual server? Or is it the fact that we have both the application and the database on the same server.
    I dont know if it is possible to have another Tomcat4.0 server running on our live server but connecting to the 10g database - what would happen with classes12.zip and classes12.jar? would there be a conflict?
    I would really appreciate some help here. You should know though that I am not a hardened java programmer - I can dabble, but am an Oracle Forms, Reports, Discoverer, SQL person by trade. I am also a trainee DBA, so again am not an expert by any means.
    Thanks in advance for your help

We're up to Tomcat 6. The important difference is the JDK supported. What JDK are you using for Tomcat?

If you find that those are drifting up over time, it's likely that the code isn't closing resources properly.

Start monitoring your Oracle connections and cursors to see what's going on. Install some filters to get raw timings on your Java calls. Without data, you're guessing in the dark.

  • Oracle error ORA-00600 when using Oracle 10g and Sun One Web Server 6.1

    I have a java application that was running under Solaris 8 and Oracle 9i. I am trying to get it up and running on a new server that is configured with Solaris 9 and Oracle 10g. Whenever the application tries to connect to the database it receives the following error: ORA-00600 [ttcgcshnd-1][0]. My research indicates that this is an internal Oracle error that represents a low level unexpected condition. I have looked through my configuration for the Web Server and I have not been able to determine the cause of this problem. My DBA tells me that we have the latest patch installed for Oracle! Has anyone encountered this problem before? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    If the problem is also present in a SWING app, i.e. outside the web server, then it is porbably something external to the webserver.
    I think you should ensure that the driver and database are compatible with each other. It is very likely that you need a new jdbc driver for the new database.
    download from here http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/htdocs/jdbc101020.html
    try the ojdbc14.jar

  • 32 Bit Installation or Oracle Linux and Oracle Database 10g

    I have an old E-Machine that I wanted to put Oracle Linux and Oracle Database Express 11G on. I was just wanting to do some testing and development on the system. I'm pretty sure the machine is 32bit.
    I just burned a copy of 32 bit Oracle Linux onto a CD. Is there a version of Oracle Database Express that will run on it?
    It seems like there is only a 64 bit version of Oracle Express Database 11g. Is Oracle Database Express 10g installable on Oracle Linux 32 bit?
    Let me know! Thanks in an advance.

    One (or two) caveats with the 10g version, XE can not be patched and the 10.2.0.1 XEs were created before the current daylight savings time rules went into effect.
    If you have access to My Oracle Support there is a method to get updated timezone files for the oracle binaries, you need at least version 4 of the DST files. I've got the MOS docIDs somewhere let us know if needed and I'll dig 'em up.

    I have Oracle 9i in a machine. I wanted to install Oracle 10g in the same machine.
    I tried installed, and Oracle 10g worked ok.
    I have the following problems:
    1. Oracle 9i is not starting up. {Oracle 9i Intelligent Agent Failure on startup}
    2. I need to use Oracle 9i and Oracle 10g simultaneously.
    If any one have experianced this please help to resolve the issue.
    Thanks in advance.

    You must use 2 different homes, and later you have to take care of your environment variables, and you must use only one listener in this case the highest version that is 10g.
    Tell us: did you install in the same ORACLE_HOME?
    Give us details.

  • How do I map Hitachi SAN LUNs to Solaris 10 and Oracle 10g ASM?

    Hi all,
    I am working on an Oracle 10g RAC and ASM installation with Sun E6900 servers attached to a Hitachi SAN for shared storage with Sun Solaris 10 as the server OS. We are using Oracle 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.3) RAC clusterware
    for the clustering software and raw devices for shared storage and Veritas VxFs 4.1 filesystem.
    My question is this:
    How do I map the raw devices and LUNs on the Hitachi SAN to Solaris 10 OS and Oracle 10g RAC ASM?
    I am aware that with an Oracle 10g RAC and ASM instance, one needs to configure the ASM instance initialization parameter file to set the asm_diskstring setting to recognize the LUNs that are presented to the host.
    I know that Sun Solaris 10 uses /dev/rdsk/CwTxDySz naming convention at the OS level for disks. However, how would I map this to Oracle 10g ASM settings?
    I cannot find this critical piece of information ANYWHERE!!!!
    Thanks for your help!

    Yes that is correct however due to use of Solaris 10 MPxIO multipathing software that we are using with the Hitachi SAN it does present an extra layer of complexity and issues with ASM configuration. Which means that ASM may get confused when it attempts to find the new LUNs from the Hitachi SAN at the Solaris OS level. Oracle Metalink note 396015.1 states this issue.
    So my question is this: how to configure the ASM instance initialization parameter asm_diskstring to recognize the new Hitachi LUNs presented to the Solaris 10 host?
    Lets say that I have the following new LUNs:
    /dev/rdsk/c7t1d1s6
    /dev/rdsk/c7t1d2s6
    /dev/rdsk/c7t1d3s6
    /dev/rdsk/c7t1d4s6
    Would I set the ASM initialization parameter for asm_diskstring to /dev/rdsk/c7t1d*s6
    as correct setting so that the ASM instance recognizes my new Hitachi LUNs? Solaris needs to map these LUNs using pseudo devices in the Solaris OS for ASM to recognize the new disks.
    How would I set this up in Solaris 10 with Sun multipathing (MPxIO) and Oracle 10g RAC ASM?
    I want to get this right to avoid the dreaded ORA-15072 errors when creating a diskgroup with external redundancy for the Oracle 10g RAC ASM installation process.

    Hi
    We are an Educational firm planning to launching Oracle 11i and 10g.
    Can I install both the Oracle 11i E-Business Suite and Oracle 10g on the same Server? If it can What is best configuration for the Server that can I bought?
    provide Configuration too.
    thanks

    "However, I do not suggest any windows platform for 11i as that is not so good os for 11i. You may either go far unix or linux" - 140042
    That's absolutely right. It is better to have at least two linux/unix machines:
    # 1 machine for application server - admin, web, form, concurrent services
    # 2 machine for DB server
    If you want, you may integrate Oracle apps 11.5.10 (on #1 and # machines) with OracleAS 10g (# machine).

  • Coyotepoint E350 and OracleAs 10g Hardware Load Balancing SSL

    Hi:
    Has anyone been successful using a CoyotePoint E350 with XCEL SSL accelerator card and OracleAS 10g with SSL to hardware load balance an HTTPS site?

    You're on the right track adding the SSL certificate to the Load Balancer. I'm not really sure what you mean 'without the use of Webcache'? However, if I had the choise, I'd always add the certificate to the Load Balancer.
    A good document setting up a load balanced environment is the Enterprise Deployment Guide. Chapter 8 describes the tasks for a Forms environment.

  • Using Clob with TopLink 9.0.4.5 and Oracle 10g RAC

    I am trying to store an XML file in a Clob type field of a DB table using TopLink 9.0.4.5 and Oracle 10g RAC and need some guidance about how to do it. I got some directions to start it with the Tip "How-To: Map Large Objects (LOBs) to Oracle Databases with OracleAS TopLink" but still need some more helps.
    When using the Oracle JDBC OCI driver, the tip gives the code block for a Clob field:
    DirectToField scriptMapping = new DirectToField();
    scriptMapping.setAttributeName("script");
    scriptMapping.setFieldName("IMAGE.SCRIPT");
    descriptor.addMapping(scriptMapping);
    As I understand, TopLink creates instances of the Descriptor class at run time for each of the descriptor files and stores them in a database session, where is the proper place (in SessionEvent of TopLinkSessionEventHandler?) for me to get a reference to such an instance of my Descriptor class in Java code so that I can add the above mentioned additional Mapping? Are the above String values of "script" and "IMAGE.SCRIPT" predefined in TopLink API? Can I accomplish the same thing just using the TopLink Workbench tool instead? If yes, please advise the detailed steps to do so.
    The tip also states to call the following code in case of using Clob:
    DatabaseLogin login = session.getLogin();
    login.useStringBinding();
    Should the above 2 lines of code be called after the following lines of code?
    SessionManager sessionManager = SessionManager.getManager();
    Server serverSession = (Server)sessionManager.getSession("MY_SESSION_NAME");
    Besides the above extra coding for the Session and Descriptor Mapping, is there any special handling in between Data model and DB table mapping? Can I map a Java String type to a DB Clob field using the Direct-to-field mapping?
    Appreciate any help.

    Never mind ....... I had already figured it out .....
