Oracle 10.1.0 jdbc driver and 9i Database

Are there any known issues with using the Oracle 10.1.0 jdbc drivers and 9i Database. I was lead to believe that the Jdbc drivers are backward compatible.
Thanks

Sorry for not including my error:
Hello all,
I am getting an error "Bigger type length than Maximum" when calling a stored procedure that returns a small result set. I am not working with BLOBs or CLOBs and cannot find anything on the web that addresses my specific situation.
I would greatly appreciate any help available in solving this problem.
Here is my data access object:
package my.app.access;
import java.sql.CallableStatement;
import java.sql.Connection;
import java.sql.ResultSet;
import java.sql.SQLException;
import oracle.jdbc.OracleTypes;
import oracle.jdbc.OracleTypes.*;
import my.app.beans.Person;
import my.app.util.Database;
public class PersonAccess {
     public Person getPerson(Person person) throws SQLException, Exception {
          Database db = new Database();
          Connection con = db.connect();
          ResultSet rs;
          CallableStatement cs = con
                    .prepareCall("{call SP_GET_PERSON_BY_USER_ID (?,?)}");
          cs.setString(1, person.getUserId());
          cs.registerOutParameter(2, oracle.jdbc.OracleTypes.CURSOR);
          cs.execute(); // ################### ERROR HAPPENS ON THIS LINE
          rs = (ResultSet) cs.getObject(2);
          if (rs.next() == true) {
               person.setId(new Integer(rs.getString("id")).intValue());
               person.setFirstName((String) rs.getString("first_name"));
               person.setLastname((String) rs.getString("last_name"));
               person.setPhoneNumber((String) rs.getString("phone_number"));
               person.setEmailAddress((String) rs.getString("email_addr"));
               person.setRoleId(new Integer(rs.getInt("role_id")).intValue());
               //this.roleName = rs.getString("role_name");
               person.setPassword((String) rs.getString("password"));
               person.setAgencyId(new Integer(rs.getInt("agency_id")).intValue());
               if (rs.getString("account_disabled").equals("1"))
                    person.setAccountDisabled(true);
               if (rs.getString("pwd_change_reqd").equals("0"))
                    person.setPasswordChangeRequired(false);
          return person;
And here is a test object:
package my.app.access;
import my.app.beans.*;
public class testAccess {
     * @param args
     public static void main(String[] args) {
          // TODO Auto-generated method stub
          PersonAccess pa = new PersonAccess();
          Person person = new Person();
          person.setUserId("jrlaughlin");
          try {
               pa.getPerson(person);
          } catch (Exception e) {
               e.printStackTrace();
          System.out.println("done");
And here is the output from this test app

  • I want JDBC driver for Sybase database...

    Hi All:
    Can any one help me with JDBC driver for Sybase database ? I have surfed the net, but not able to find a Sybase driver that works correctly.
    Also, can you please let me know if anything special needs to be done in case of Sybase database connection, apart from what we normally do to connect to a database like "Oracle" or "MS SQL Server".
    Thanks and Regards,

    And why do you think someone using Oracle might know the Competitor's drivers?
    Having said this: you should give jTDS a try:

  • Oracle JDBC driver and CF MX 7 Standard edition

    hi, guys.
    is it possible to use Oracle JDBC driver with CF MX 7
    Standard edition?
    all our CF servers are Enterprise edition so we never ran
    into any
    problems connecting to Oracle servers.
    however, there will be a couple of new CF servers with
    relatively
    simple jobs running and we're trying to determine if we can
    use the
    Standard edition instead.
    I'd like to test this on my own, but CF MX 7 Standard edition
    is not
    available as a trial download.
    if there's someone who's done this already, I'd love to hear
    from
    you.
    can anyone shed a little light on this?
    thank you very much!

  • Oracle JDBC driver and the object types cache

    Hi there,
    Oracle JDBC Developer's Guide and Reference says (version 11gR1):
    Oracle JDBC drivers cache array and structure descriptors. This provides enormous performance benefits. However, it means that if you change the underlying type definition of a structure type in the database, the cached descriptor for that structure type will become stale and your application will receive a SQLException exception.http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/java.111/b31224/oraoot.htm#g1104293
    That is the problem we are having here... We have web services deployed to WebLogic server that use custom object types. Every time we have to change an object type definition the web services stop working (the error ORA-00902: invalid datatype is raised) and the only solution is to restart the JDBC data source which is quite disruptive to the development process.
    Is there a workaround to disable that "feature"?
    Thanks
    Luis

    Although if you are changing the object structure then the code to deal with it must change as well. So, especially in developement, why is restarting a problem?It is not that restarting per se is a problem. Here us developers do not have the required privileges to restart the JDBC pool and we have to ask the DBA to do it, and sometimes he is not immediately available. It is not a big thing but this can impact the development process.Your development process is hideously flawed then.
    The pool exists in the JEE server. And from your first post it seems that you have permission to restart that but not to access the management console. It is ridiculous to have access the the former and not the later.
    Not to mention that you should have your own JEE instance to develop on. Actually it is weird to me that a DBA would even be touching a JEE server. The competent ones I know don't even know how to do that. They know the database not the application servers.
    >
    In addition, having to restart a whole JDBC pool just because you changed a database object definition does not seem very flexible to me. Such issue does not exist in other connection types, for instance in OCI connections, that is why I thought there should be an option to turn it off if required.
    Well specifically you have to restart the pool because you were USING the object that changed.
    And I am rather certain that you can turn off the pool entirely.
    Even in production, I reckon that this may have a negative impact. For instance, say that you need to deploy a hot fix for a bug in one application that involves the re-creation of one single object type. This means that the whole JDBC pool, which may be used by other applications, may have to be shut down just because of that single object.Good point.
    I suggest you stop using complex objects in Oracle. I suspect that would eliminate the problem completely.

    Thanks for the reply.
    Have you tried manually taking the current time and
    converting it to the way Oracle is expecting it? If I embed a TO_DATE and format it, it works fine, but I want to stay database independent. Is that want you mean?
    Or how about using new java.util.Date() to get the
    current date?Not sure I follow you:
    --- insertStmt.setTimestamp(5, new java.sql.Date(System.currentTimeMillis()));
    Gives an error since setTimestamp expects a java.sql.Timestamp and
    --- insertStmt.setDate(5, new java.sql.Date(System.currentTimeMillis()));
    Only stores the date without the time.
    Thanks again,

  • When I get a date field value using the Oracle thin (type 4) JDBC driver...

    ....in 'DD-MMM-YY' format from an Oracle 8i database and pass it in to the java.util.Date() constructor, I get a IllegalArgumentException. This error doesn't occur when I use the type 2 driver, so it is apparently a driver-specific thing. It happens on both Win32 and Linux.
    Has anyone seen this before? Is there a newer version of the Oracle thin (i.e., type 4) driver than is listed here?

    [email protected]

    Yup, that original post didn't make much sense, did it? Let's try again.
    I've got an EJB app that runs on WebLogic 6.0 (on Solaris in production, on Win2K for development) and accesses an Oracle 8i database. This app currently uses the Oracle type 2 JDBC drivers. All is well.
    So I wanted to see how it would run on Linux. I've got a Redhat 7.1 box handy, so I installed the JDK and WL6.0 and slapped the ear file on there. Problem! Can't deploy because there are no Oracle drivers on this machine!
    Makes sense. So I started looking around, and it seems installing Oracle on a RH 7.1 box involves patching glibc and other such nastiness. So let's just try the type 4 JDBC driver - no glibc patch, no shared object libraries, just good 'ol pure Java talking to Oracle on port 1521.
    Once I had the URLs and whatnot set up, the app connected to the DB just fine, created the connection pool, read some data, etc. But when my app read a date from the DB and instantiates a new java.util.Date object, I got an IllegalArgumentException - i.e., the date can't be parsed.
    "Hmm... that's odd", I thought, so back I went to my trusty Win2K machine, modified my configuration files to use the type 4 driver and - same error! So I switched back to the type 2 driver - and everything works fine, Dates and all. Hmmm.....
    As you correctly state, that Date constructor is deprecated and I should use DateFormats and GregorianCalendars and whatnot instead.
    But has anyone seen this weird behavior before - code that works fine on a type 2 driver starts throwing exceptions when used with a type 4 driver? Anyone have any solutions?
    Thanks much,
    Tom

  • Microsoft SQL Server JDBC driver and WLS JMS problem?

              Greetings,
              I'm using the Microsoft SQL Server JDBC driver with WLS with JMS
              persisted to SQL Server, during WLS startup the JMS attempts to
              read the JMSStore and JMSState tables in the db, if they are
              already present (say, from a previous run) the driver kicks out:
              java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]ResultSet can
              not re-read row data for column 1.
              If the tables are not present, then WLS creates them and
              everything proceeds fine. Now, its not a good thing to attempt
              to reread row data for a ResultSet, especially for portability. Why is WLS JMS
              doing this? is there some config I can use to adjust JMS startup behavior for
              persisted JMS stores?

              Tom,
              thanks for the info, I'll bring this to support.
              I did try the weblogic jDriver for SQL Server and it works fine, so i think it
              must be the way JMS is interacting with the MS driver.
              here are my components:
              WLS 6.1sp1
              Microsoft® SQL Server™ 2000 Driver for JDBC™ is a (Type 4 JDBC) which provides
              partial JDBC 2 support (no blobs, clobs, etc)
              MS SQL Server 2000 (sp2?)
              thanks!

  • Mm.mysql JDBC Driver and the WHERE clause

    Anybody has succesfully performed a MySQL/JDBC query in a JSP application using more than one variable in the WHERE clause?
    It works fine when I run queries with one fixed value assigned to a column and one variable assigned to the other column in the WHERE clause; but when I do it with more than one variable in the WHERE clause, it screws up throwing an error.
    I wonder if it is a code error, a syntax error or if it is something tricky about the mm.mysql JDBC Driver. Following is a section of the code and the error. The variables are s_description and s_status. I read some examples in a book but they use SQL Server. Thank you in advance for any information.
    CODE:
    <% String sqlStatement = "" ; %>
    <% String s_description = "Mexican Style Rice" ; %>
    <% String s_status = "available" ; %>
    <% java.sql.Statement stmt = con.createStatement(java.sql.ResultSet.TYPE_SCROLL_INSENSITIVE, java.sql.ResultSet.CONCUR_UPDATABLE); %>
    <% java.sql.ResultSet rs ; %>
    <% sqlStatement = "SELECT code, description, status FROM products WHERE products.description =" + s_description + " AND products.status =" + s_status + ";" ;%>
    <% rs = stmt.executeQuery(sqlStatement); %>
    <% rs.beforeFirst(); %>
    <% while (rs.next()) { %>
    <% rs.updateString(3, "sold"); %>
    <% rs.updateRow(); %>
    <% }%>
    <% rs.close(); %>
    This is the ERROR it throws
    java.sql.SQLException: Column not found: Unknown column 'available' in 'where clause'

    I think perhaps this sentence has problems:
    <% sqlStatement = "SELECT code, description, status FROM products WHERE products.description =" + s_description + " AND products.status =" + s_status + ";" ;%>
    You can
    <% sqlStatement = "SELECT code, description, status FROM products WHERE products.description ='" + s_description + "' AND products.status = '" + s_status + "'" ;%>
    You perhaps ignore the when using String variable s_description and s_status.
    Hope this will help you. Good lucky!

  • Third party JDBC Driver and Domain Extension

    Hi everyone, I'm using a third party driver to acess some of the legacy databases in my company. I'm adding them to Weblogic's (v. 10.3.3.0) Classpath by setting the EXT_PRE_CLASSPATH in the setWLEnv.sh file. Everything worked fine so far, until I had to extend my domain to acomodate new settings. The Configuration Wizard crashes in the middle by saying "A fatal error Has Occurred. This Application will terminate". By inspecting the logs I saw that the Wizard tried to search my Data Source which used the third party driver and couldn't find the Driver Class. I would like to know if there is a better way to add the library to the Weblogic's Classpath or someway to workaround this issue during the extension. In my current situation I'm having to erase the data source, extend the domain and reconfigure the data source, which is big trouble !
    Any help will be appretiated ! Thanks
    PS: I've also tried to add the third party driver's JAR in the CLASSPATH inside config.sh file but unfortunately the error was the same !

    You can place your jar files in the domain lib directory.
    WebLogic uses a separate classloader to load classes from the domain lib directory. This classloader
    is a child of the system classloader, and a parent of the application classloaders. The classes and
    resources in any .jar file placed in the directory is automatically available to all applications.
    Note, however, that the domain lib classloader does not support redeployment, dynamic reloading, or FastSwap, and cannot
    refer directly to code in the application classloaders. But i think that this is not a problem, you just want your
    thrid party JDBC driver to be availlable for your applications.

  • Com.mysql.jdbc.driver and jdbc:odbc bridge driver

    Hi All,
    I want to update mysql database from data in hashtable. My application already uses JDBC:OBDC bridge driver for retrieving data from excel sheet and putting in hashtable.
    For connecting to mysql i need to use com.mysql.jdbc.driver too in the same code.
    How to do that?
    my code uses.

               filepath = strFilePath;
               filename = strFileName;
                strDriver= "jdbc:odbc:Driver={MicroSoft Excel Driver (*.xls)}";Thanks
