Oracle 10.2.0.4: Incredible value of MBRC

I'm running Oracle on HP-UX with 32k db_block. Gathered system stats many times (monthly), but when I relaxed, it gather MBRC=200 as seen in log below:
25.12.09 14:16:08 -- CPUSPEED 1053
25.12.09 14:16:08 -- CPUSPEEDNW 898.2221077042
25.12.09 14:16:08 -- IOSEEKTIM 10
25.12.09 14:16:08 -- IOTFRSPEED 4096
25.12.09 14:16:08 -- MAXTHR 414009344
25.12.09 14:16:08 -- MBRC 25
25.12.09 14:16:08 -- MREADTIM 15.178
25.12.09 14:16:08 -- SLAVETHR 504832
25.12.09 14:16:08 -- SREADTIM .891

13.01.10 09:16:43 -- IOSEEKTIM 10
13.01.10 09:16:43 -- IOTFRSPEED 4096
13.01.10 09:16:43 -- SREADTIM 1.654
13.01.10 09:16:43 -- MREADTIM 9.153
13.01.10 09:16:43 -- CPUSPEED 1064
13.01.10 09:16:43 -- MBRC 200
13.01.10 09:16:43 -- MAXTHR 105528320
13.01.10 09:16:43 -- SLAVETHR 504832
I regather stats and now it seems most truely:
4     SYSSTATS_INFO     FLAGS     0
5     SYSSTATS_MAIN     CPUSPEEDNW     898,2221077042
6     SYSSTATS_MAIN     IOSEEKTIM     10
7     SYSSTATS_MAIN     IOTFRSPEED     4096
8     SYSSTATS_MAIN     SREADTIM     0,415
9     SYSSTATS_MAIN     MREADTIM     8,01
10     SYSSTATS_MAIN     CPUSPEED     1102
11     SYSSTATS_MAIN     MBRC     11
12     SYSSTATS_MAIN     MAXTHR     78653440
13     SYSSTATS_MAIN     SLAVETHR     504832
but why it so unstable? When I need to take control over my system statistics job? What is the value of 200?! Thank you for answers.

Today i observed that filesystem having oracle binaries increased bit drastically.
on drilling down the cause i found that there is generation of trace file every second in the BDUMP directory ranging from 500KB to 2MB.
The no of files generated today is
$ pwd
/cbsora1/ora10g/OraHome1/rdbms/log/bdump
$
$ ls -lrt |grep 'Oct 20'|wc -l
29606
Oracle binaries has been increased ?
The trace files generates in bdump have basically some information/error based on background process, check the alert log's for any Internal error's like ORA-600 or ORA 7445 !!!!

  • Can oracle  function return more than one value

    Hi All
    please answer can oracle function return more than one value
    need one schenario
    regards

    Can any function, irrespective of the language, return multiple values?
    OF COURSE NOT!!
    So why do you think Oracle will now suddenly do it differently than all other languages? Never mind that it is impossible for a function (a unit/module of code) returning a memory address, to return multiple memory addresses. The machine code that does that, has not been yet been designed/implemented.
    I am continually amazed that this question is asked. It is about something so fundamental in almost every single 3rd and 4th generation language... something that is taught right at the start... the definition of what a procedure and what a function is.
    Sorry, but I simply cannot pull punches on this subject and smooth it over. There is something fundamentally wrong with your training as a programmer if you have to ask such a question about a function.
    And whatever programming skills you build on such a foundation, will be seriously lacking.
    I kindly suggest that you get back to the very basics of programming - and review and revisit until you fully understand it. There are no shortcuts in becomming a good programmer.

  • Oracle SP for comparing 80 column values across 8 table pairs in 2 diff DBs

    Hi All,
    I have an Oracle SP for comparing 80 column values across 8 table pairs in 2 diff DBs.
    However, it is taking hell lot of time around 6hours to process 10,000 records.
    Can anyone suggest how to fine-tune this?
    Thanks guys.

    Tables prefixed with X are the temp tables to store data of DB-A.
    The report will be originally based on DB-B, so DB Links will not be required for @PROD1.WORLD tables.
    This is a test region, so I have pointed to @PROD1.WORLD to test with Prod Data.
    SEC_COMPARE_CONFIG is the config table containing the table_name to be reported, corresponding temp tables to store the data and the columns on which it is to be reported.
    There are in total 8 tables- 90 rows and 8 temp tables.
    SPOKE_TO_HUB_SEC_MTCH_TBL records the securities on which it is to be reported.
    HIST_DATA_COMPARE_TBL is the final results table.
    Here is the entire code:

  • Oracle report problem-Passing a column value from a query block to another

    Hi I am facing a problem in oracle reports.
    I have 3 query blocks say Q1,Q2 and Q3.
    From Q1 I get a tblkey coulmn and for each value of tblkey I need to pass it on to Q2 which gives me a status and now finally Q3 will take tblkey and status to give me final output.
    Can somebody please tell me how I can do it?
    Thanks,
    Avin

    Depending on your report requirement, you may do a join of Q1, Q2, and Q3; or keep all Qs and for Q3 use subqueries ...
    Select ... from ... where tblkey, status in (
    select tblkey, status from ... where tblkey in (
    select tblkey from .... where .... ) )
    Good luck.

  • How to call an Oracle Procedure and get a return value in Php

    Hi Everyone,
    Has anyone tried calling an Oracle procedure from Php using the ora functions and getting the return value ? I need to use the ora funtions (no oci)because of compatibility and oracle 7.x as the database.
    The reason why I post this here is because the ora_exec funtion is returning FALSE but the error code displayes is good. Is this a bug in the ora_exec funtion ?
    My code after the connection call is as follows:
    $cur = ora_open($this->conn);
    ora_commitoff($this->conn);
    $requestid = '144937';
    echo $requestid;
    $rc = ora_parse($cur, "begin p_ins_gsdata2
    (:requestid, :returnval); end;");
    if ($rc == true) {
    echo " Parse was successful ";
    $rc2 = ora_bind ($cur, "requestid", ":requestid", 32, 1);
    if ($rc2 == true) echo " Requestid Bind Successful ";
    $rc3 = ora_bind ($cur, "returnval", ":returnval", 32, 2);
    if ($rc3 == true) echo " Returnval Bind Successful ";
    $returnval = "0";
    $rc4 = ora_exec($cur);
    echo " Result = ".$returnval." ";
    if ($rc4 == false) {
    echo " Exec Returned FALSE ";
    echo " Error = ".ora_error($cur);
    echo " ";
    echo "ErrorCode = ".ora_errorcode($cur);
    echo "Error Executing";
    ora_close ($cur);
    The Oracle procedure has a select count from a table and it returns the number of records in that table. It's defined as:
    CREATE OR REPLACE procedure p_ins_gsdata2 (
    p_requestid IN varchar2 default null,
    p_retcode OUT varchar2)
    as
    BEGIN
    SELECT COUNT (*) INTO p_retcode
    FROM S_GSMRY_DATA_SURVEY
    WHERE request_id = p_requestid ;
    COMMIT;
    RETURN;
    END;
    Nothing much there. I want to do an insert into a table,
    from the procedure later, but I figured that I start with a select count since it's simpler.
    When I ran the Php code, I get the following:
    144937
    Parse was successful
    Requestid Bind Successful
    Returnval Bind Successful
    Result = 0
    Exec Returned FALSE
    Error = ORA-00000: normal, successful completion -- while
    processing OCI function OBNDRA
    ErrorCode = 0
    Error Executing
    I listed the messages on separate lines for clarity. I don't understand why it parses and binds o.k. but the exec returns false.
    Thanks again in advance for your help. Have a great day.
    Regards,
    Rudi

    retcode=`echo $?`is a bit convoluted. Just use:
    retcode=$?I see no EOF line terminating your input. Your flavour of Unix might not like that - it might ignore the command, though I'd be surprised (AIX doesn't).
    replace the EXEC line with :
    select 'hello' from dual;
    and see if you get some output - then you know if sqlplus commands are being called from your script. You didn't mentioned whether you see the banner for sqlplus. Copy/paste the output that you get, it will give us much more of an idea.

  • Oracle Text Help with XML column values

    Hello. In addition to being new to Oracle Text, I am inheriting an Oracle Text application and have a couple of questions.
    First, A context-based index has been set-up on a CLOB column which contains an XML formatted document. The Auto Section Group parameter has been set to created zones for each tag of the XML document. I have found that when using a browser to display the content of the CLOB, some of the column values have trouble displaying in the browser, where I receive an XML processing error. I believe this is due to the fact that some of the XML document rows contain URLs that are not embedded in the CDATA tag. In any case, if the browser has trouble displaying the XML, will oracle text have trouble indexing the XML and creating the section group zones?
    Second, I understand that the NOT operator takes a right operand term and left operand term. Can either of the terms be the results of the WITHIN operator, i.e. "dogs not (cats within animals)".
    Thank you.

    I bet you just whipped that out, and I thank you with all my
    heart, its amazing to me how many ways I tried to do what you did.
    Thanks
    I have a second question relating to the same problem and
    that is in referencing the over state. Currently, I can write
    'text' into the text field and see what I have coming in from xml
    in its place during the 'up' state.
    However, when the timeline hits the 'over' state, the
    textfield will display nothing, or 'text' if I have that written
    in. I suspect that I am not referencing the'over' state correctly.
    Should I add one line of code sort of referencing the text
    field and not just the button while in the over state?

  • How can I use oracle function to decode the encode value

    Hi everybody,
    If the data is encode value how can I decode this value

    DBMS_OBFUSCATION_TOOLKIT
    DBMS_OBFUSCATION_TOOLKIT allows an application to encrypt data using either the Data Encryption Standard (DES) or the Triple DES algorithms.
    The Data Encryption Standard (DES), also known as the Data Encryption Algorithm (DEA) by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and DEA-1 by the International Standards Organization (ISO), has been a worldwide encryption standard for over 20 years. The banking industry has also adopted DES-based standards for transactions between private financial institutions, and between financial institutions and private individuals. DES will eventually be replaced by a new Advanced Encryption Standard (AES).
    DES is a symmetric key cipher; that is, the same key is used to encrypt data as well as decrypt data. DES encrypts data in 64-bit blocks using a 56-bit key. The DES algorithm ignores 8 bits of the 64-bit key that is supplied; however, developers must supply a 64-bit key to the algorithm.
    Triple DES (3DES) is a far stronger cipher than DES; the resulting ciphertext (encrypted data) is much harder to break using an exhaustive search: 2**112 or 2**168 attempts instead of 2**56 attempts. Triple DES is also not as vulnerable to certain types of cryptanalysis as is DES. DES procedures are as follows:
    DESEncrypt Procedure
    DESDecrypt Procedure
    Oracle installs this package in the SYS schema. You can then grant package access to existing users and roles as needed. The package also grants access to the PUBLIC role so no explicit grant needs to be done.
    This chapter discusses the following topics:
    Overview of Key Management
    Summary of DBMS_OBFUSCATION Subprograms
    Overview of Key Management
    Key management, including both generation and secure storage of cryptographic keys, is one of the most important aspects of encryption. If keys are poorly chosen or stored improperly, then it is far easier for a malefactor to break the encryption. Rather than using an exhaustive key search attack (that is, cycling through all the possible keys in hopes of finding the correct decryption key), cryptanalysts typically seek weaknesses in the choice of keys, or the way in which keys are stored.
    Key generation is an important aspect of encryption. Typically, keys are generated automatically through a random-number generator. Provided that the random number generation is cryptographically secure, this can be an acceptable form of key generation. However, if random numbers are not cryptographically secure, but have elements of predictability, the security of the encryption may be easily compromised.
    The DBMS_OBFUSCATION_TOOLKIT package does not generate encryption keys nor does it maintain them. Care must be taken by the application developer to ensure the secure generation and storage of encryption keys used with this package. Furthermore, the encryption and decryption done by the DBMS_OBFUSCATION_TOOLKIT takes place on the server, not the client. If the key is passed over the connection between the client and the server, the connection must be protected using Oracle Advanced Security; otherwise the key is vulnerable to capture over the wire.
    Key storage is one of the most important, yet difficult aspects of encryption and one of the hardest to manage properly. To recover data encrypted with a symmetric key, the key must be accessible to the application or user seeking to decrypt data. The key needs to be easy enough to retrieve that users can access encrypted data when they need to without significant performance degradation. The key also needs to be secure enough that it is not easily recoverable by an unauthorized user trying to access encrypted data he is not supposed to see.
    The three options available to a developer are:
    Store the key in the database
    Store the key in the operating system
    Have the user manage the key
    Storing the Key in the Database
    Storing the keys in the database cannot always provide bullet-proof security if you are trying to protect data against the DBA accessing encrypted data (since an all-privileged DBA can access tables containing encryption keys), but it can provide security against the casual snooper, or against someone compromising the database files on the operating system. Furthermore, the security you can obtain by storing keys in the database does not have to be bullet-proof in order to be extremely useful.
    For example, suppose you want to encrypt an employee's social security number, one of the columns in table EMP. You could encrypt each employee's SSN using a key which is stored in a separate column in EMP. However, anyone with SELECT access on the EMP table could retrieve the encryption key and decrypt the matching social security number. Alternatively, you could store the encryption keys in another table, and use a package to retrieve the correct key for the encrypted data item, based on a primary key-foreign key relationship between the tables.
    A developer could envelope both the DBMS_OBFUSCATION_TOOLKIT package and the procedure to retrieve the encryption keys supplied to the package. Furthermore, the encryption key itself could be transformed in some way (for example, XORed with the foreign key to the EMP table) so that the key itself is not stored in easily recoverable form.
    Oracle recommends using the wrap utility of PL/SQL to obfuscate the code within a PL/SQL package itself that does the encryption. That prevents people from breaking the encryption by looking at the PL/SQL code that handles keys, calls encrypting routines, and so on. In other words, use the wrap utility to obfuscate the PL/SQL packages themselves. This scheme is secure enough to prevent users with SELECT access to EMP from reading unencrypted sensitive data, and a DBA from easily retrieving encryption keys and using them to decrypt data in the EMP table. It can be made more secure by changing encryption keys regularly, or having a better key storage algorithm (so the keys themselves are encrypted, for example).
    Storing the Key in the Operating System
    Storing keys in the operating system (that is, in a flat file) is another option. With Oracle8i you can make callouts from PL/SQL, which you could use to retrieve encryption keys. If you store keys in the O/S and make callouts to retrieve the keys, the security of your encrypted data is only as secure as the protection of the key file on the O/S. Of course, a user retrieving keys from the operating system would have to be able to either access the Oracle database files (to decrypt encrypted data), or be able to gain access to the table in which the encrypted data is stored as a legitimate user.
    User-Supplied Keys
    If you ask a user to supply the key, it is crucial that you use network encryption, such as that provided by Oracle Advanced Security, so the key is not passed from client to server in the clear. The user must remember the key, or your data is nonrecoverable.

  • Oracle CKM Module not resolving variable values

    Hi,
    I am using ODI 11g.
    I created a database datastore with dynamic table and column names using variables.
    I use this datastore as the target table in an interface but for some reason when the creation of the Error table is attempted (during CKM) the variables do not get resolved correctly and execution fails. (When I trace the variable values I see that they have the correct values).
    The following script is executed:
    create table DAMAN_6020400_DEV."*E$_#TableName*"
         ODI_ROW_ID           UROWID,a
         ODI_ERR_TYPE          VARCHAR2(1 CHAR) NULL,
         ODI_ERR_MESS          VARCHAR2(250 CHAR) NULL,
         ODI_CHECK_DATE     DATE NULL,
         #column1     VARCHAR2(50) NULL,
         #column2     VARCHAR2(200) NULL,
         #column3     VARCHAR2(200) NULL,
         ODI_ORIGIN          VARCHAR2(100 CHAR) NULL,
         ODI_CONS_NAME     VARCHAR2(128 CHAR) NULL,
         ODI_CONS_TYPE          VARCHAR2(2 CHAR) NULL,
         ODI_PK               VARCHAR2(32 CHAR) PRIMARY KEY,
         ODI_SESS_NO          VARCHAR2(19 CHAR)
    If I skip the CMK steps, the following steps are executed successfully and the data are inserted in correctly in the target table.
    Can anyone think of a reason why this is happening?
    Thank you!

    Hi,
    Thanks for the reply Bhabani.
    My variables are Project scope (isn't that correct?)
    From what I see in the previous successful steps when the data is loaded the statements look like:
    create table SCHEMA_NAME.*"I$_#Project_name.TableName"*
    On the other hand during the steps that fail the variables are not prefixed with the project name:
    create table SCHEMA_NAME.*"E$_#TableName"*
    I did not customize the KM's that produce these steps but for some reason the second step produced by Oracle CKM has this problem

  • Oracle Discoverer: How to handle null value

    In Oracle Discoverer, I pull data from a folder. When I hit Null value for a column, I want to replace it with data from another folders column. Something like the functionality of "nvl" of a SQL statement. How can I do the following query in Discoveror :
    example: select nvl(table1.column1,table2.column2) from table1, table2
    where table1.column7 = table2.column7.

    Hi,
    You first need to include any column from folder table2 into your report so that Discoverer will do the join. (This assumes the join between table1 and table2 is set up in your EUL). Then you can create a calculation containing nvl(table1.column1,table2.column2) . You can then remove the column from folder table2 and the join will stay in your workbook.

    Hi,
    I am a beginner in Oracle Business Intelligence. There is an issue with 'Past Due Schedule Value Aging' report
    [this report displays order lines that are booked, but not yet fulfilled, and the date past the schedule ship date.].
    Actually, the report is supposed to ignore the order lines that have been 'cancelled' (having a quantity of '0').
    But, it is displaying the 'cancelled' lines as well.
    I am supposed to analyze entire logic for 'Past Due Schedule Value Aging' report (Oracle Supply Chain - Release 12).
    So, could anybody please provide the list of the steps to get the entire code? Also, please let me know if I am supposed

    I'm working as DBA at one of the bank in Nepal and working on Finacle Core Database which uses back end as oracle.But, I'm surprised exploring that it does not use single oracle database constraints...when I asked authority of finacle about this issue they replied constraints hold only academic values they are not implemented in real time application...Is it true or not??? please help me....
    Regards,
    Matrika

    true or not???That's not true. All applications I know have constraints implemented. It is the way to guarantee that your data is according to the rules you have defined.
    But, you probably have an application that can run against any database, in your case Oracle, but other clients may have other databases. So the vendor probably has decided to implement all their constraints in the application, and uses the database only as a bit bucket.

  • Oracle rdf file formula column long value in to XML Data

    Hi,
    I converted a rdf report to xml publisher report. The report output(XML Data) is not complete as one of the column in the report is very long. How the xml data file can get this long value with out aborting.
    Thanks,
    HC

    Hi Hussein,
    If I use "set long 5000000" then I am getting a compilation error in Report Builder. Also I tried to use TO_CLOB, but that didn't work as the report builder is 6i. When I open the report in 9i, the code was compiled with TO_CLOB, but while closing the Report Builder, it still asks me do you want to save the report. If I say yes and copy the .rdf file to unix and run the program, the log file says, there is uncompiled pl/sql code exists. Not sure why I get this error, even though I compile the report, it asks me to save again.
    Thanks,
    HC
