Oracle 10g on Oracle Linux 5.6: dbca does.. nothing?

Dear all,
I successfully installed Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.6 64bit on a test server. I installed a bunch of prerequisite packages then I successfully installed Oracle 10G (10.2 for linux x86-64). During the installation I selected "no default database (only server) and no enterprise manager".
Successfully I mean, apparently!
After that I launched DBCA, and go through all steps to create my first database.
- general purpose
- no enterprise manager (disabled, anyway)
- on file system
- use database file locations from template (ORACLE_BASE is correctly set)
- no flash recovery area
- default size, charset and so on
Then I reach the last page (12). Create Database is already selected, and I select also "Generate Database Creation Scripts". I press Finish. The Confirmation page appears, I review all the stuff then I press OK.
At this point I expect the window with the progress bar of database creation (I did this tens of times before on 10g, 11g on Windows and Linux) but I simply return to the Step 12 of dbca.
In /u01/app/oracle/oradata I see an empty ORCL folder
In /u01/app/admin/ORCL I see the empty folders: adump, bdump, cdump and so on, plus scripts, that contains:
- ORCL.sh:
#!/bin/sh
mkdir -p /u01/app/oracle/admin/ORCL/adump
mkdir -p /u01/app/oracle/admin/ORCL/bdump
mkdir -p /u01/app/oracle/admin/ORCL/cdump
mkdir -p /u01/app/oracle/admin/ORCL/dpdump
mkdir -p /u01/app/oracle/admin/ORCL/pfile
mkdir -p /u01/app/oracle/admin/ORCL/udump
mkdir -p /u01/app/oracle/datafile
mkdir -p /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/cfgtoollogs/dbca/ORCL
mkdir -p /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/dbs
ORACLE_SID=ORCL; export ORACLE_SID
- ORCL.sql:
PROMPT specify a password for sys as parameter 1;
DEFINE sysPassword = &1
PROMPT specify a password for system as parameter 2;
DEFINE systemPassword = &2
I can't found any log and I don't understand what's wrong.
Mario.

You'll never believe!
I suspected about an apparently stupid warning whenever I launched dbca on command line (Xming server over ssh)
Warning: Cannot convert string "-b&h-lucida-medium-r-normal-sans-*-140-*-*-p-*-iso8859-1" to type FontStruct
I installed xming fonts and now the progress window appears and database creation is done, everything works fine! Incredible!
This lead me to see a new error, during the db creation:
ora-27125: unable to create shared memory segment.
I solved this by issuing this command
#echo "<dba_group_gid>" > /proc/sys/vm/hugetlb_shm_group
where dba_group_gid is the gid of oracle group (i.e. oinstall).

  • Basic installation: X11 for Oracle Linux 6.3

    Hi All,
    I created Oracle VM and installed Linux 6.3 as operation system. First try with X Windows and X11 shows, that I can not start X-Appse.g. xclock --> command not found!
    How can I correct install oderwise configure X11 for Oracle Linux 6.3
    Regards,
    Moh

    I guess Oracle VM VirtualBox and Oracle VM can be misleading. Oracle should better call it Oracle Virtualbox, without VM in the name. Fyi: http://www.oracle.com/us/technologies/virtualization/oraclevm/index.html
    Anyway, a default installation of Oracle Linux or RHEL 6 does not install the X Window system and a graphical user desktop. If you want to run X11 applications you have 2 options:
    - Use remote access from a system that has X Window server installed
    - Install X Window and a window manager on your virtual machine.
    If this is a new installation and you use it locally then I suggest to re-install the system and customize the package selection. You should see a prompt "customize now" during the installation where you can select the Desktop packages.

  • Fusion middleware system requirements for oracle Linux 7

    Hello,
    I'm currently studying document E54272-01 (Oracle® Fusion Middleware System Requirements and Specifications
    12c (12.1.3) September 2014) in order to install Fusion Middleware 12c products on a Oracle Linux 7 server.
    The "Linux Operating System Requirements" section doesn't include Oracle Linux 7 system requirements, does it mean Fusion Middleware 12c products are not yet certified for OL7?
    PS : I'm unable to find a pdf version of E54272-01 document, if anybody has the URL, I'll appreciate.
    Daniel

    Daniel,
    The compatibility matrix for 12.1.3 can be found here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/fusion-middleware/documentation/fmw-1213certmatrix-2226694.xls
    As you will see, for now only Oracle Linux 5 and 6 are compatible.
    Thanks,

  • Installation of oracle 10g on RedHat Linux EE 3

    Hi,
    I am going to Install of oracle 10g on RedHat Linux EE 3, rigth now i am running oracle 9i on windows platform. I need following things:
    -I want to export all my data from oracle 9i on windows. For this what is the best way should i transport my tablespace and install oracle 10g on linux and import them after creating db or should i simply export and import it from there.
    -Is there any issues that i should look at before i transfer my database.
    -We are a Industrial Laboratory and use scientific notation in our database. Would this import export can takecare of all the things or should i set some character set setting before import/export.
    -Any thing else if you thing that i should take care.
    Thanks & Regard
    Rashid K.K

    You cannot use transportable tablespace. Platform independent transportable tablespace run only on newer versions (10g). You have to create the tablespaces on you linux machine and than exp/imp (full=y).

    binutils-2.15.92.0.2-10.EL4

    pdksh-5.2.14-30
    sysstat-5.0.5-1

    And from the following link, you can get the same list:

    And from my installation guide you can easily install Oracle on Linux by following step by step instruction

  • Can you install Oracle 10g on REDHAT LINUX ENTERPRISE WS?

    According to oracle documentation, it says you can install oracle10g on Redhat enterprise version 3 or 4, but it doesn't specify whether its Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS or WS. Can you install oracle 10g on Rehat Linux Enterprise WS?

    Oracle Certificaction Matrices says only RedHat AS/ES is supported for database. AFAIK WS means workstation.
    Also this link is very clear: http://kbase.redhat.com/faq/FAQ_61_1135.shtm
    Besides the above sentences... If the WS installation is providing all required packages (listed in installtion prerequisites) I belive that Oracle DB could be installed on WS but as I (and the above link) said it is not officialy supported.

    It looks like you will have to uninstall "libaio1", but I don't know for sure and don't have Ubuntu 10.4 available right now to play with.
    Sorry but the instructions are for Ubuntu 10.10, not 10.4, which is different.
    If you need to install XE on Ubuntu, I'd rather suggest 11gR2 XE:

    All I had to do was use the 32bit version of "/usr/bin/gcc" and "/usr/bin/g++" to run the installation
    That is:

    bin]# mv /usr/bin/gcc /usr/bin/gcc323
    mv: overwrite `/usr/bin/gcc323'? y

    mv: overwrite `/usr/bin/g++323'? y
    bin]# ln -s /usr/bin/g++296 /usr/bin/g++
    AFTER INSTALLATION REMEMBER TO
    move back the 64bit files to their former state.
    bin]#rm /usr/bin/g++
    bin]#rm /usr/bin/gcc

    The web browser you are using is not optimized for this release of Oracle enterprise manager. It is recommended that you use one of the following:
    * Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.5, 6.0 or higher
    * Netscape Navigator version 7 and higher
    *Mozilla version 1.3.1 and higher
    Dose any one know hoe to upgrade mozilla or install internet explorer 5.5, 6.0 or higher or SLES 8.

    You can download package for your distribution (for example) from http://www.mozilla.org or directly from SuSE ftp server ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/9.1/suse/i586

    All 10g oracle is under extended support, the XE 10g version was yanked from the download pages at about the time 10g went Extended.
    Probably won't be able to get a download from anywhere under oracle.com but there might be a few sites that still have it hosted. Try google.
