Oracle 10g - System Statistics

Hello guys,
i've got a question foru you :-))
If i generate new system statistics (cpu load, i/o load, etc.), are the execution plans in the sga going invalid?
Some time ago i tested it with new statistics on tables/indeces and if i generate new statistics for tables/indeces, all execution plans that refer to the object (table/indeces) are going invalid.
But under 10g, what about system stats? Are all execution plans going invalid, if new system statistics are generated? The system stats are needed to decide which access path is better.. so it would be suggestive .... i believe this would cause massive parse load.
Thanks for your answers
Regards
Stefan

From the Performance Tuning Guide, Chapter 14 Managing Optimizer Statistics
Unlike table, index, or column statistics, Oracle does not invalidate already parsed SQL statements when system statistics get updated. All new SQL statements are parsed using new statistics.

  • Oracle 10g System Statisctics

    Hi,
    I want to know if System Statistics (CPU and I/O usage) for CBO are automatically taken and loaded in Oracle 10g or I have to schedule it manually?
    can anybody help me?
    Thanks in advance,
    Gerald.

    Basic system stats are generated at instance startup in 10g. Ideally you should still do the manual gather for better system stats values based on you workloads
    You can check system stats in SYS.AUX_STATS$

  • Oracle 10g - lock statistics

    What are the different situations in which Oracle will lock existing table/index statistics automatically?
    As per my undrstanding to lock the statistics we must use "dbms_stats" package with lock_table_stats/lock_schema_stats procedures. I dont see any other situation where Oracle automatically locks the statistics.
    Please share your experience.

    I dont see any other situation where Oracle automatically locks the statistics.Oracle never locks the statistics on its own. Oracle has only given methods so that one can decide whether to collect the statistics for volatile/static tables; so that the execution plans do not change drastically.

  • Gather system statistics

    Hi Friends,
    I want to gather system statistics in my Oracle 9.2.07 (windows) environment...
    created one statistics table...
    execute DBMS_STATS.CREATE_STAT_TABLE ('SYS','MY_STATS');
    (2) Gathering SYSTEM Statistics Script during office hours ( 8 hours) (8am to 4pm)
    begin
    execute dbms_stats.gather_system_stats(
    gathering_mode=> 'interval',
    interval => 480,
    stattab=> 'MY_STATS',
    STATID=> 'OLTP');
    END;
    REM
    REM
    REM END of Script
    REM===================================================
    (3) Import the Collected System Statistics
    Import the statistics daily around 8AM...because..users starts entering the transactions....
    variable jobno number;
    begin
    dbms_job.submit(:jobno,'dbms_stats.import_system_stats(''IMAL_STATS'',''OLTP'');',
    SYSDATE,'SYSDATE+1');
    COMMIT;
    END;
    ========================================================
    OLAP..also i will collect during night time....
    gathering system statiscs will end after 4pm....so..it takes system statistics during 8 hours interval time...and i am going to import them next day 8am..
    is this the correct method????.please sched some light on this...

    Hi,
    Oracle recommends to gather system statistics from oracle 9i onwards....this the line from Oracle 9i R2 document...
    Oracle9i Database Performance Tuning Guide and Reference
    Release 2 (9.2)
    Gathering System Statistics
    System statistics enable the optimizer to consider a system's I/O and CPU performance and utilization. For each plan candidate, the optimizer computes estimates for I/O and CPU costs. It is important to know the system characteristics to pick the most efficient plan with optimal proportion between I/O and CPU cost.
    System I/O characteristics depend on many factors and do not stay constant all the time. Using system statistics management routines, database administrators can capture statistics in the interval of time when the system has the most common workload. For example, database applications can process OLTP transactions during the day and run OLAP reports at night. Administrators can gather statistics for both states and activate appropriate OLTP or OLAP statistics when needed. This enables the optimizer to generate relevant costs with respect to available system resource plans.
    When Oracle generates system statistics, it analyzes system activity in a specified period of time. Unlike table, index, or column statistics, Oracle does not invalidate already parsed SQL statements when system statistics get updated. All new SQL statements are parsed using new statistics. Oracle Corporation highly recommends that you gather system statistics.The DBMS_STATS.GATHER_SYSTEM_STATS routine collects system statistics in a user-defined timeframe. You can also set system statistics values explicitly using DBMS_STATS.SET_SYSTEM_STATS. Use DBMS_STATS.GET_SYSTEM_STATS to verify system statistics.
    So better performanace, as per above document, we need system statistics.
    if not needed.why it is not need...can u please describe this...

  • Oracle Database Migration(Oracle 9.2.0.4 to Oracle 10g)

    I want to migrate my database from Oracle 9.2.0.4 to Oracle 10g XE, is there any method to migrate the database successfully..?
    My plan is to empty the existing database on the Oracle 10g XE then export the database from old machine(Oracle 9.2.0.4-including privilages,users,tables,etc) and import it to the new machine(Oracle 10g XE), but i was worried if I empty the existing database(Oracle 10g XE), all the tables will be gone(including Oracle 10g XE system table that do not exist in older oracle version) and after I import the database to Oracle 10g, I afraid the database will encounter any problem because I've deleted the Oracle 10g system tables.
    Anyone can give me suggestion on how to migrate the database successfully..?
    Thank you.

    What's the Edition of your Oracle 9.2 ?
    I don't think do full export/import from 9i to Oracle 10g XE is good idea. The chance you will have problem after import is very high.
    Instead, you may want to consider do schema user level exp/imp.
    Don't drop any thing belongs to SYS and SYSTEM on 10g XE. Actually you only need to drop the sample users like 'HR'

  • MBRC and SYSTEM STATISTICS in Oracle 10g database.

    Hi All,
    I am performing database upgrade from Oracle 8i Solaris to Oracle 10g HP-UX using exp/imp method.
    But i do have some doubts regarding MBRC and System statistics.
    MBRC in Oracle 10g is automatically adjusted if MBRC parameter is not set, but i found value 128 as shown below.
    SQL> select * from v$version;
    BANNER
    Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0 - 64bi
    PL/SQL Release 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
    CORE    10.2.0.4.0      Production
    TNS for HPUX: Version 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
    NLSRTL Version 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
    SQL> sho parameter multi
    NAME                                 TYPE                             VALUE
    db_file_multiblock_read_count        integer                          128Also i performed one simple full table scan to test it...but db file scattered read is performing on 128 blocks. So i dont think 128 is suitable and is automatic, i mean MBRC is not set accrodingly it always uses 128.
    Does this MBRC value affects whole database performance?
    Regarding SYSTEM STATISTICS i found below result:
    SQL> select * from AUX_STATS$
    SNAME                          PNAME                               PVAL1 PVAL2
    SYSSTATS_INFO                  STATUS                                    COMPLETED

    SYSSTATS_MAIN                  MBRC
    SYSSTATS_MAIN                  MAXTHR
    SYSSTATS_MAIN                  SLAVETHRNow whether NOWORKLOAD or WORKLOAD is better, and this server is still under building process....so how can i collect WORKLOAD stats as high load on this server can't be performed?? Is it really require to gather system statistics, what will happen with NOWORLOAD stats?
    I have not seen single database where system stats are gathered in our organisation having more than 2000 databases.

  • How to genrate and check wait statistics in oracle 10g

    Dear all,
    how to genrate and check WAIT STATISTICS in oracle 10g on RHEL4.
    Regards,
    Ali

    Oracle Kernel keeps track of these statistics. Query v$waitstat for overall system level wait statistics or v$session_wait for individual session wait statistics.

  • Gathering system statistics in 10g

    I am confused. I read in the Oracle® Database Performance Tuning Guide, for 10g Release 1, that the system statistics are NOT automatically generated and must be manually generated using DBMS_STATS. However, when I query V$SESSTAT, V$STATNAME and V$OSSTAT I have records returned.
    I thought that DBMS_STATS was no longer used in 10g and that everything was automatic. Does anyone know which is correct? If I have data in those views does that mean that system statistics have been run?
    Thanks!

    You can still manually collect stats in 10g using DBMS_STATS, but 10g can also perform statistics collection on stale tables automatically, when enabled. Our other DBA was involved in setting up that item, but I think the Oracle tool involved is the Automatic Workload Repository.

  • Create a new user for oracle 10G ASM instance with sysdba system privilege

    Hi,
    In our Golden Gate Project, we require the SYS user credential to connect to the Oracle 10g  ASM instance to read the database transaction logs.But our client is not providing the SYS user credential to  connnect to ASM instance.
    I'm getting the error message "ORA-01109:  database not open",When I tried to create a new user using the  below the steps in oracle 10g ASM instance
    1. Login using "sqlplus / as sysdba"
    2. Create user <username> identified by <password>;
    But in oracle 11g ASM instance, I'm able to create new  user  by connecting the ASM instance with SYSASM role without issues.
    Is there is any workaround to create a new user with sysdba system privilege in oracle 10g ASM instance?.
    Thanks in advance .

    Hi,
    Recreate the password file for the ASM instance as follows:
    Unix:
    orapwd file=<ORACLE_HOME>/dbs/PWD<SID> password=<sys_password>
    Windows:
    orapwd file=<ORACLE_HOME>/database/PWD<SID>.ora password=<sys_password>
    Now sys password is reset, we are ready to use sys for ASM management. I decided to create another user ASMDBA as I tried above.
    SQL> create user ASMDBA identified by test01;
    User created.
    SQL> grant SYSASM, SYSOPER to ASMDBA;
    Grant succeeded.
    SQL> select * from v$pwfile_users;
    USERNAME SYSDBA SYSOPE SYSASM
    SYS TRUE TRUE TRUE
    ASMDBA FALSE TRUE TRUE
    Please see this link : http://orachat.com/how-to-change-asm-sys-password-creating-sysasm-user-11g/
    Thank you

    Here I am using Java Type IV for database
    connection.
    So,there was no necessity of creating DNS.How your app communicates with db shouldn't matter for the end user. Still, you may want to use a functional network name also for the thin client driver connection string.
    So,is there any other way to solve this problem.What is the problem really? Do you not use dns for network naming? Maybe you have to manage the hosts file on every client then.

  • How to Install Oracle 10g in Windows 7 Home premium 64bit operating system

    Hi,
    I am using Windows 7 Home premium 64bit operating system. While i was installing oracle 10g i got error and not able to install. How to install the Oracle 10g databse on this operating system. Is there any patch to install this or i have to use other version of oracle with window 7 operating system?
    Thanks in advance
    Mayank Adhikari

    The argument would be who wants to install Oracle database on Windows 7. I think most probably by the developers who wants to "Try" something prior deal with a production database, right?
    For a developer, installing database using the hack is more than NOT having a local database running from the local system. I installed all the products mentioned with windows7bugs post and used the following tools to successfully connect and retrive data from the database instances.
    Toad 9.7.x.x
    SQL Developer
    SQL/Plus
    Developer 6i (Another hack, please check this link http://windows7bugs.wordpress.com/2010/03/01/installing-oracle-developer-forms-reports-6i-on-windows-7-64bit/).
    I think the discussion about whether all the features of client/server are still available with such a hacked installation is meaningless as far the information requested was strictly for Windows 7, not for a Server OS.

  • Doubt regarding automatic statistics collection in Oracle 10g

    I am using Oracle 10g in Linux
    Does statistic collection for tables throughout the database happen automatically or should we manually analyze the tables using
    Analyze command or DBMS_STATS package ?
    AWR collects statistics(snapshots) every 1 hr but does it mean it collects only session and database related statistics and not the table related statistics?

    I am using Oracle 10g in Linux Version and os name and version?
    AWR collects statistics(snapshots) every 1 hr butIt's performance related statistics. Read about data gathering and AWR.
    Note that AWR is an extra licensable feature thru Management packs.

    You should ask Oracle support for help. There's only one entry for this error stack (Bug 3361288 - Export of XMLSCHEMA may fail with ORA-24324 in UTF8), but it should have been fixed for your DB version and , as far as I can see, you don't have a Unicode database.

  • Oracle 10g on Windows 2003:  Can't start with any account but Local System

    Fresh install of Oracle 10g on Windows 2003. I install as a member of the local admin group and everything works great. The various services are starting as Local System, though, and I'd prefer to set them up to start as a specific domain user account.
    When I make that change, however, I can't get any of the Oracle related services to start. I've added this domain user to the local ora_dba group on my server, given it the ability to log on as a batch job and log on as a service in the local security policy. Doesn't seem to help.
    I saw a thread that implied using a domain user account wasn't supported (didn't seem right to me, but what the hell), so I created a local user account and tried that. Same result.
    Something I'm missing?
    Thanks.

    What is missing, I suspect, is reading the installation docs.
    http://docs.oracle.com
    If that doesn't work then come back and ask specific requestions referencing the appropriate document and naming the actual version you are trying to install (ps 10g is a marketing name not a version number).
