Permissions, ownership, etc could be reconfigured while process spawn, this is surely related to Oracle Software. (Well, you may argue that it is related to GI only. But the situation is the same for standalone DB running on standalone ASM).

    Hi Syed,
Yes I understand that checksum will be the indication of a successful download or unsuccessful one.As I said I am no expert in checksum things so teh best that I can tell is that try unizipping it and see if the installer works. If it works than the number doesnt matter.Well its not a very helpful soolution I agree but thats the best I can tell.Or if you are not convinced than just download onemoretime.:)

As per Metalink note 293988.1, this will be resolved if I do [root@localhos]# echo 1 > /proc/sys/vm/disable_cap_mlock . But problem is when I do this because I dont have /proc/sys/vm/disable_cap_mlock file in my system, it giving ¨bash: /proc/sys/vm/disable_cap_mlock: No such file or directory¨ error. Trust me I verified installtion guide and release notes atleast 20 times. I never had luck witht any thing. I was wondering how come edelivery.oracle.com packages (both Linux 64 bit Linux with upgrade to Unbreakable and Oracle 10g db version) is not workign for me. Finally below trick to the installed file could make my installation work(Ref link http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/10g/OracleDB10gInstallationOnFedora2.php) . In this I am setting DISABLE_HUGETLBFS to value 1. My only doubt is, does this have any impact on performance? Can some one relay on such tweeking for prod installtions? Ofcourse I am yet to go for commercial. At present I dont have ULN or metalink authorised access.
    cd $ORACLE_HOME/bin
    mv oracle oracle.bin
    cat >oracle <<"EOF"

    export DISABLE_HUGETLBFS=1

2] File is distributed in multiple files- site have only downloadable link
Can any one please help me to get out of it?

If you are really on Windows 2008, this file is wrong , you need
    Oracle Database 11g Release 1 (11.1.0.7.0)
for Microsoft Windows Server 2008 x64
Of course that doesn't necessarily solve your general unzip problem, compare the size of the downloaded file with the size on the download site. If there's a difference, download is not complete for whatever reason.

MySQL has supported stored procedures only since MySQL 5.
    Dreamweaver's

  • Slow updations (Oracle 11g 64 bit enterprise edition on Linux RHEL)

I have created Following table for profiling updates per second in Oracle Database
    Test(RecordId number,Desciption varchar2(2000) //Btree Index on record id only
    Table has 10000 records only.
I did updation for every record in loop by follwing query(Stored procedure executed on same server where database exists no network is coming in picture)
update Test set description = description + 'something' where Recordid = i (loop counter)//existing description has 1000 characters
I am wondering that updation of only 10000 records was taking 100 Seconds.
    I was expecting atlease 1000 records/second but it is 100 record/second
Can anyone help to correct me and tell how can we improve database updations?
    Processor Dual proc dual core
    Raid with reading speed 2.5Gbps
    OS : Linux RHEL
    Database:Oracle enterprise edition 64 bit.
    sga_max_size = 1.5 GB
Any help will be highly appreciated.

You are running a loop but Oracle will give you read consistency.
Oracle is probably cloning some of the datablocks as it re-reads them because
it finds that the block has been previously updated.
That sort of a loop is absolutely the wrong way to test Oracle.

From what I can gather form your post, the ORA-27125: Unable to create shared memory segment is probably the result of:
    a) not enough physical memory available.
    b) /dev/shm not configured properly.
    c) kernel parameters are not set according to Oracle requirements.
Since this is happening during the installation of Oracle I suggest to check the SHMMAX kernel parameter. This is all mentioned in the pre-installation steps. Oracle 11g will actually check these kernel parameters prior to installing. Not sure about 10g now, which you are trying to install.
The most common, easiest way to prepare the system for Oracle RDBMS is to install the "oracle-validated" package. If you don't have access to ULN, you can setup public yum.
http://public-yum.oracle.com/ Then you can simply type as the root user: yum install oracle-validated

The case with Windows 2008 exists because there was no way to install 11.1.0.6 on that platform, so the process of 'install and patch' is not possible. Therefore they needed to 'fix' the initial install for that specific plaftform and it is their policy to only release to the 'current patch set' (which was 11.1.0.7 at the time).
With Linux, you can 'make it work' with newer versions (eg: RH 5u4) by providing the appropriate compat libraries, therefore the original 'install and patch' process is still valid.
Making Linux 11.1.0.7 available would nullify their Support mechanisms.

We have backup(rman and export) from production. I'm trying to find the best way to rebuild this clustered database. After setting up everything like, creating disk groups, You can go with two options. However you have backup of RMAN & EXPORT
    1) export/import
You can create a RAC database using DBCA and then import the dumpfile.
    2) RMAN.
You can restore the database on one node, later you can covnert this database as RAC
