Oracle 7 and IBM DB2
Hello Guys,
I have few doubts, can anyone help me to clear it.
Oracle 11i is an Enterprises Server does it come it with a database server
if not which version Oracle data base is used alongwith it
Can I use Oracle 8i data base to use alongwith Oralce 11i.
I want to know what is the price of Oracle Databse version 7
Oracle Databse version 7 has how many releases, I mean how many upgrades strarting with 7
Suppose if x purchase Oracle Database version 7, does upgrades on 7 such as 7.1 or 7.3 comes free or is it chargable by the oracle ?
If I purchase data base application from a vendor and that application is having Oralce Server do I need to pay separetly for Oracle data base server 7.
If that vendor is an oralce partner in sales, and if I purhcase various moudles such as Financial accounting, Inventory Management, HR Management, Sales & Marketing Managemnt, Internal and external commnication Management etc., from that vendor (modules devloped by the vendor according to my needs using orcale certified tools such as SQL reports writer, SQL Forms etc.,) We have to keep in mind that this entire application is run on an Oralce 7 data base server.
How can I make sure that the Oracle 7 data base server supplied by the vendor is a legal version?
Does Oralce provide any kind of authentication to certify that the product (Oracle Data Base Server) supplied by the vendor is a legal software.
I know this is a lengthy question. However, anyone who can give me a correct answer to anyone of the points or all the points are most welcom.

Did anyone has tried IBMs new version of DB2
Recently IBM has released thier new vesion of DB2. They claim that it will alert the database administortrs to potentioal problems in the database system and suggesting ways to fix them.
However, if you look litte deep, Oracle was providing this from their 8I server itslef. Can anyone list at least 2 such features of Oralce Servers.
Be ready for a surprise, can anyone suggest any featurs of Oracle 7 server, which alert the database administortrs to potentioal problems in the database system and suggesting ways to fix them.
SangeeMeena ,
Personally, I'm not sure, but send me your email address to [email protected] and I will get someone to respond to you about this.

There is "user.timezone".

High User IO with Oracle and IBM XIV Storage
Hi
We are using oracle 10.2.0.4 with IBM XIV storage and we have very high user IO in the database. We faced this issue after migrating our storage from SCV to XIV. Almost all our DB backgroud jobs are running for long hours after this migration.
Is there any oracle parameters require to modify to reduce this user IO? Any parameter modification required in XIV? Please adviceThere is no such parameter, sy is yanking your chain. This is the typical response when people ask for a solution akin to a magic switch they can flip to have the database run faster.
The long version is that without supplying technical information the best you can hope for is WAG (Wild Ass Guesses) as to where your problem may be found. Did you raise a support request with IBM? Did you run any statistics? What have you checked so far?
You will need to help provide information for people to help you in a free volunteer forum.
If you want a magic switch solution without doing any work yourself there are plenty of consultancy firms who will happily solve your problem for money. -
JDBC Drivers compatability between Oracle and IBM WSAD 5.1.1
I am using a DataAccessObject pattern. I discovered you can speed up your procesing with SELECT statments us using an OraclePreparedStatment and setting defineColumnType; thereby reducing the number of trips the SQL is sent to the database.
Here is the code:
((OraclePreparedStatement)ps).defineColumnType(1, Types.BIGINT);'ps' is a PreparedStatement.
However, at runtime, I am getting a class cast exception for the below reason. I am using WASD version 5.1.1. I was not aware IBM was using any specific classes in the JDBC drivers.

at java.lang.Throwable.(Throwable.java)Could someone please explain this to me? Any help would be greatly appreciated.I'm not an WSAD expert to be honest, but it's quite possible they are using their own wrappers. Check out what calls you can make on their ps wrapper or more likely conn wrapper - they may have some type of getWrappedConnection functionality as other vendor(s) do in which case you can, eg, cast the connection to OracleConnection and go from there.

Any help is appreciated - thanksHi,
You are right, DRDA_REMOTE_DB_NAME should have the name of the Db2 instance.
The error you are getting points to the fact that you are an multibyte character set in either Oracle and/or DB2. The gateway can connect, but first have to be able to map the character sets indicated by the error message:
TG4DRDA v10.2.0.1.0 grc=0, drc=-332 (865B,0001), errp=GDJREACS errmc=1208,819 <<== 1208 and 819 are the CCSIDs
Add the following entries to the gateway codepage.map file -
S 367 > US7ASCII
D 13488 > AL16UTF16
D 1200 = AL16UTF16
M 1208 = UTF8
MBC 1208 = 1208 1200
The default location of the file is $ORACLE_HOME/tg4drda/admin/codepage.map
These values map code page 1208 to Oracle's UTF8 character sets so that the gateway can translate UTF8 data into code page 819 (WE8ISO8859P1).

IBM DB2 to Oracle Database Migration Using SQL Developer
Hi,
We are doing migration of the whole database from IBM DB2 8.2 which is running in WINDOWS to Oracle 11g Database in LINUX.
As part of pre-requisites we have installed the Oracle SQL Developer 4.0.1 (4.0.1.14.48) in Linux Server with JDK 1.7. Also Established a connection with Oracle Database.
Questions:
1) How can we enable the Third Party Database Connectivity in SQL Developer?
I have copied the files db2jcc.jar and db2jcc_license_cu.jar from the IBM DB2 (Windows) to Oracle (Linux)
2) Will these JAR files are universal drivers? will these jar files will support in Linux platform?
3) I got a DB2 full privileged schema name "assistdba", Shall i create a new user with the same name "assistdba" in the Oracle Database & grant DBA Privillege? (This is for Repository Creation)
4) We have around 35GB of data in DB2, shall i proceed with ONLINE CAPTURE during the migration?
5) Do you have any approx. estimation of Time to migrate a 35 GB of data?
6) In-case of any issue during the migration activity, shall i get an support from Oracle Team (We have a Valid Support ID)?
7) What are all the necessary Test Cases to confirm the status of VALID Migration?
Request you to share the relevant metalink documents!!!
Kindly guide me in-order to go-ahead with the successful migration.
Thanks in Advance!!!

[email protected]Hi Klaus,
Continued with the above posts - Now we are doing another database migration from IBM DB2 to Oracle, which is very less of data (Eg: 20 Tables & 22 Indexes).
As like previous database migration, we have done the pre-requirement steps.
DB Using SQL Developer
Created Migration Repository
Connected with the created User in SQL Developer

Convert IBM DB2 v9.5 to Oracle 11gR2
I am trying to migrate a DB2 v9.5 database to Oracle 11g and am having a few problems with the conversion process. I am running Oracle SQL Developer 2.1. The developer captures the DB2 database model just fine. When it converts the captured model it says that it succeeds with a success code of "16", but when I go inspect the converted model, it appears to be exactly the same and the captured model. The converted model has column types of Integer, Character and Varchar, when they should have been converted to Number, char, and varchar2. What is going wrong with the conversion process?
I have double checked the mapping table and it is correct. I have verified that the connecting user has all the correct privileges.

}1)IBM document says that you use COM.ibm.jdbc.net.DB2Driver when you use Applets
2)For applications use COM.ibm.jdbc.app.DB2Driver
3)Both these files are in db2java.zip file
4)db2java.zip is the DB2 driver just like classes111.zip is the driver for Oracle
6)You need to put db2java.zip in your classpath.
5)If you are using COM.ibm.jdbc.net.DB2Driver and you are getting "COM.ibm.db2.jdbc.DB2Exception: [IBM][JDBC Driver] CLI0616E Error opening socket
. SQLSTATE=08S01 "
you need to run "db2jstrt" on the target host(machine running DB2) with the specified port as the parameter
6)If you are using COM.ibm.jdbc.app.DB2Driver and getting " java.sql.SQLException: No suitable driver ", most probably db2java.zip is not in classpath.
7)Note : you need to install DB2 client software on the application machine, just putting the zip file does not work.
8)There is a Java file at IBM that walks you thru the connection.

Best Practice to Setup an application to work with both oracle and db2 db
Hi,
We have an application that currently supports both oracle and db2 databases . It is currently using JPA with eclipselink as backend mechanism and we want to move to ADFBc as our backend . So what is best practice to do this?
I came across an old post in https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/adf-methodology/UlJZSTu14Io that states to create two different model projects to support oracle and db2 .
Is this still the standard ? Is there a way that we could work around rather than creating multiple projects?
How do i get the view controller to work with multiple model projects if this is the case?
Thank you. Thanks for the response .
The problem is i would have the same schema on both the databases (both in oracle and db2) .
I don't see a scenario where i want both the application model projects at the same time . What i meant is , Application will either be deployed with Oracle DB or DB2 but not with both on a production environment .
So is there a way where i just change the connection parameters alone rather having two different models ?
If i have to use two model projects , would it be possible say i built the view controller for Oracle , and use it for DB2 if i make sure the BC objects names are similar between model projects and switch just the model jar based on the deployment environment ?
