Oracle 8.0.5 installation on linux RH6.0 kernel 2.2.5-15

Good evening.
I'm trying to install Oracle 8.0.5 on a machine running Linux RH 6.0 kernel 2.2.5-15.
I wish to obtain some information about how and where can I set the following parameters:
SHMMAX
SHMMIN
SHMMNI
SHMSEG
SEMMNS
SEMMNI
SEMMSL
PROCESSES
Thanks forward for your help.

You'll have to be prepared to wade through and understand the Linux way of recompiling your kernel. The files can be located using the "find" command. There is some great "HOW-TO"s in the Linux RedHat site.
Tip: Be very careful how you answer the "make config" questions because it can mess up the resulting VMLINUZ object. Also, be sure to place secondary entry in your "lilo.conf" to allow you a graceful way of getting back to the old kernel should the new one fail.
Good Luck!

  • Oracle 10g AS portal installation  on linux

    hi,
i am new bie to oracle10g as portal.i would like to install on linux.please help me out that. i need software and installation steps for that.whichone is best whether single node or multinode.
    thanks
    with regards

yes, Shail is right. you asked for portal and that's the current latest portal.
I would say, just get yourself familiarized with Rel 2 documentation, and the various tabs on the link i gave you which has documentation for various component it offers.
perhaps, do not download or install the software yet; and within a week, a newer version (Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g) will be available with a newer version of Oracle Portal.
however, my honest advice would be really if you could invest some dedicated time to study components of Rel 2 and Rel 3 and just get a feel of what is included in a functional system. and what are enterprise portals. because it will help you a lot in understanding the newer versions too.
    thanks,

  • Oracle Web Services Manager Installation in Linux

    Hi
I download the Oracle WSM for linux (as_linux_x86_ws_manager_4030.cpio) and extracted tar followed the steps given in the site (cat filename.cpio | cpio –icd)
I got coresv folder and install.sh on it.
When I run the install.sh I noticed the error saying install.home.dir or coresv.home.dir wrong in the install.properties because it was referring c:/coresv_install_home which is supposed to be wrong for linux.
So I created an directory under var like coresv_install_home. And edited the install.properties for /var/coresv_install_home.
After this it was throwing Platform not supporting Oracle Lite.
Please let me know my steps are correct on the linux installation. Also how I can fix the Oracle Lite installation problem. It will be great if some one helped me out this issue.
    Thanks
    Gopi

I had the same problem, but adding the ant/lib directory to classpath helped.

  • Oracle 8.1.7 on RH Linux 7.1 (kernel 2.4.2) -- COMPILATION

I see that many people have serious problems concerning 8.17 on RH 7.1.
The problems are various, from beeing not able to start the Univ. Installer (written in Java) to clean Oracle install but with some Java tools not worikng (for example netasst).
The problem is IBM's JRE 1.1.8, RH 7.1 or 2.2.4 kernel?
This forum is spread with partial questions and answers, why do not collect solutions here?

    My way #1:
    1) Clean RH 7.1 install, customized kernel for my needs (SMP, SCSI, etc).
    2) set LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5 in oracle user's .bash_profile
    3) install Oracle 8.1.7 in custom mode with NO DATABASE GENERATION!
    4) get glibc-2.1.3-stubs.tar.gz patch from OTN, read instructions, install it (it will relink Oracle executables to suit newer glibc)
    5) start dbassist, fill up the input but DO NOT GENERATE THE DATABASE, RATHER SAVE THE GENERATION SCRIPTS
    6) execute DB generation scripts through SQL*Plus
..... sorry if I missed something
This way, I have a working 8.1.7 on RH 7.1 (see the topic title), but with some Java based tools not working, for example netasst is still dead.
The solution in some way #2?
    Good luck.

If not - there is your error.
How does Oracle validate the raw file?File MUST exists (or link) AND it must be a RAW device.
You can check it by raw -qa (it should display all raw devices, with theirs major-minor pairs)

  • Installation of Oracle 8.1.17 on Redhat Linux Enterprise Edition 2.4

    dear all
I have tried to Oracle 8.1.17 on Redhat Linux Enterprise Edition 2.4 but it gives an error "Error in invoking target make file .."
I tried using retries it failed each time to prorceed.
I checked for my binutils ( binutils-2.14.90.0.4-26 ) but mine are higher than binutils-2.11.90.0.8-13.i386.rpm required ..
do i need to down grade my binutils for 8.1.7
    abhi

    Hi Abhi!
If I remember correctly (817 is stone age) the binutils used a strange debug flag in the 2.11.90.0.8-13 (something with -z).
If this is not present in your newer version of the binutils the make will fail.
Try downgrading the binutils during the installation.

  • Oracle Client(8.0.5) installation on Linux(6.0)

    Please Help,
These are the steps followed in the Oracle
    client installation of the Linux
    version
    1. Loaded SQLNET, TCP/IP Adapter and sqlplus from the Oracle CD for Linux.
    2. While running SQLPLUS it gave the 'Missing Library file'
    3. Added LD_LIBRARY_PATH parameter to .profile, problem solved.
    4. While running SQLPLUS a new message 'Segmentation Fault - Core dumped'
    started coming.
After analysing it was observed that none of the Linux memory parametre
required for oracle had been tuned. these parameters are :-
    shmmax,shmseg, shmmin, shmmni, semmns, semmni
We know the value of these parameters but the problem is that in linux we
are not able to find the Kernel paramater file,
as we do not know the Kernel parameter file name and the location in which
    it is situated.
I have done the configuration of Oracle in Sun Solaris successfully and
also modified the Kernel parameter. the following in the sample data
extracted from the /etc/system file present in Sun Solaris.
    set shmsys:shminfo_shmmax=208388608
    set shmsys:shminfo_shmseg=15
    set shmsys:shminfo_shmmin=1
    set shmsys:shminfo_shmmni=150
    set semsys:seminfo_semmns=250
    set semsys:seminfo_semmni=100

  • Oracle 11g installation on Linux Enterprise 5 remains hanging at 43%!

    Hi all,
as per Subject, I have installed a Linux Enterprise 5 OS downloaded by Oracle Download Center and it is now installed following the nice Guide here.
I have added the missing Linux packages and set up the kernel parameters as per Guide quoted above.
If I launch the Oracle installation, it completes the packages and parameters check fine, install goes fine until 43% and then hangs.
It's not freezing as the Installation window shows ongoing animations, if I try to stop installation it responds immediately asking for confirmation.
    It just hangs up!
The Linux machine is actually on a VMWare image on a MacOS Leopard host.
I have tried it on my laptop and desktop as well, but the hang point keeps being the same.
    Any idea?
    Thanks in advance.
