Oracle 8.1.5 to oracle8.1.6 upgradation

Hi
I am working paralelly on both Solaris2.7 and win NT4.0
The details are as follows
1. Liscenced versions of Oracle8.1.5 have been installed on both the systems
In order to upgrade I tried searching for the script u0801050.sql in both the systems under ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin, but it was not available
I solved this as follows on Win NT:
1. Installed oracle8.1.6 on NT in the same HOME .
2. The script was present in after this re-install.
3. I used the script(Should I have done this?)
But there is a problem with Java Upgradation now.
I started the database in the RESTRICT mode
And here is the output from the Log file
SVRMGR> @jvmu815.sql
SVRMGR> -- Upgrade an 8.1.5 database to 8.1.6 for running Java and the ORB

SVRMGR>

Any solutions or input ?
Thanks in advance

  • Can we do oracle 11g software installation in parallel to SAP upgrade

    Hi Basis Expert,
I need your inputs for one of this query
The query is. Can we do oracle 11g software installation in parallel to SAP upgrade when the system is in Downtime phase.
The idea is running SAP upgrade and in parallel running oracle 11g software installation. So that we can reduced the time.
    Please share your valuable inputs.
    Regards,
    Anil Shenoy.

    yes, of course.
using different environment during the installation of the new engine, you could install the new oracle home 11 also tomorrow (including the SBP).
infact, before the ./RUNINSTALLER you have to set the environment
    setenv ORACLE_HOME /oracle/SID/112_64
    setenv ORACLE_HOME_SRC /oracle/SID/102_64
    setenv ORACLE_HOME_TGT /oracle/SID/11202
    setenv  LIBPATH $ORACLE_HOME/lib:$LIBPATH
    setenv PATH /oracle/SID/112_64/bin: $PATH

In fact, I have created a public link GOV.WORLD using a fixed user/password. A view
select 'OK' as X from DUAL
gives the result 'OK' in a Portal form based on the view. When I modify the view adding the DB link:
select 'OK' as X from [email protected]
the Portal form gives no rows. Running the view from SQL*Plus works.
I realize there could be a problem with a DB link defined for the connected user if there is no such user in the corresponding database but I have defined the DB link for a fixed user. What's wrong?

  • Will Oracle 10.1.0.2 be ok after upgrading linux e3 kernel to 2.4.21-53.EL

    Hi, all
I have an oracle 10g(10.1.0.2) database running on a linux server (RedHat Linux e3). The linux kernel is 2.4.21-20.ELsmp.
Because we need to upgrade the ASM to make the backup stuff run well, we have to upgrade the linux kernel. The latest linux e3 kernel is 2.4.21-53.ELsmp, but the latest ASMlib 2.0 driver is for 2.4.21-52.ELsmp.
Could I upgrade the ASM under the -53 kernel? Or we have to install the -52 kernel?
    Thanks a lot!

Whether you can is far less important than whether you should.

  • Database upgrade - Oracle 10g r2 ,RAC(2 Nodes with ASM) upgrade from HP-UX to RHEL 5.9

    Hi All
I am planning to upgrade our RAC database 2 nodes with ASM from HP-UX to RHEL 5.9.
    Following is our setup
    Current setup:
    Oracle Database 10g r2 (10.2.0.5.0) RAC database.
    Nodes: 2
    Storage: ASM
    OS: HP-UX ia64
    Database Size: 1.2 TB
    New Setup:
Oracle Database 10g r2(10.2.0.5.0) RAC database
    Nodes: 2
    Storage: ASM
    OS: RHEL 5.9 x86 64
Since we are moving from a big endian format to a small endian format(HP-UX to RHEL 5.9) the same ASM cannot be used.
Kindly help me with process and other important documents to be followed.
    Thanks.

    Hi...
If it was a standlone database concepts like transportable tablespaces, rman would have been convenient.
Since we are using a RAC database with ASM as storage how do we use these techniques specified in NOTE:733205.1
Due to endianness issue we cannot use the same ASM instance.
Along with the new RAC node install a new ASM instance would have to be created.
Kindly help me with migration for RAC with existing ASM to new Hardware
    Thanks and Regards

  • Java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: oracle/sql/STRUCT after 11g/GF3.1.2 upgrade

We have recently upgraded all of our servers from:
    Java 1.6.31 to 1.6.32
    and
    Glassfish 3.1.1 to 3.1.2
We upgraded our development server from Oracle 10g to 11g.
Our live servers are working fine. Our development server now is spewing out a java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: oracle/sql/STRUCT error whenever it encounters a servlet or page which uses this class.
ojdbc14.jar and sdopai.jar were included within the WAR file, and I have tried with them excluded from the WAR file to no avail. We have tried reverting the version of ojdbc.jar on the server to the earlier version, this has made no different.

If your code can't find the class then you have the classic NoClassDefFoundError problem you get when any other referenced class can't be located.
The oracle/sql/STRUCT class is in the ojdbc14.jar, ojdbc5.jar and ojdbc6.jar so if it can't be found then that class is missing from the jar you are using (which you can tell by examining the jar contents) or the jar is missing from the classpath being used.
As already mentioned you need the Oracle 11 JDBC files to support Java 1.6
Here is the official Oracle JDBC page that shows the Oracle DB versions supported for each of the JDBC drivers available and also describes the JDBC jars and what JDK versions they support.

  • Oracle8i to Oracle9i Upgrade Docs

    Hi there,
Please can someone direct me to a place I can download an upgrade manual for Oracle 8i to 9i Release 2 on Windows. I have a client that is upgrading their Peoplesoft Enterprise One (JDEdwards) implementation to PeopleSoft Enterprise One 8.11 and we need to upgrade the Database first. Unfortunately PeopleSoft Enterprise One does not seem to support Oracle 10g yet.

    Hi,
You have two ways to migrate from 8i to 9iR2. It's not very difficult to make this upgrade. Less than 0,5 day to upgrade a database...
Export 8i/import 9i : metalink note 132904.1 - Compatibility Matrix for Export & Import Between Different Oracle Versions
Manual upgrade : metalink note 159657.1 - Complete Upgrade Checklist for Manual Upgrades from 8.X / 9.0.1 to Oracle9i
You have too the upgrade assistant, but I don't like this one.
    Hope this help you.
    Nicolas.

  • Oracle  9.2.0.1.0 to 10g Upgradation testing

    Hi All,
We are upgrading our database from Oracle 9i to 10g.
Our development environment is Ascential Datastage ETL Tool
Our project has been already developed by some other team and now only database up gradation is happening.
    Need some clarifications and solutions
    1)     How we can get to know all these objects are properly upgraded
    2)     What can be the best testing strategy for testing all these database objects like tables, functions, procedures , views, sequences etc. If any similar document has been prepared by any of the projects, please send to my mail id
    3)     Is there anything we need to do change in any of the objects to make compatible with 10g. like any functions that has to be replaced or datatype mismatching etc …..
    4)     The type of testing needs to be done for different database objects.

Anyone familiar with the way English is spoken in America, excluding one small enclave in North Carolina perhaps, should understand a couple of things:
    1. I understand a bit of Hindi so I understood some of the background conversation while on the phone with the spammers.
    2. The individuals speaking to me were as dumb as a bag of hammers.
Now according to Wikipedia the planet has about 370 million people who speak Hindi as a first language and another 580 who speak it as a second language. 950 million people minus two seems a reasonable ratio.
Anyone looking too hard to find an insult can likely find it looking at their own reflection in the mirror. Grow up and get over it folks.
BTW: Don ... you are the one that referred people to your website claiming it contained the list that you use. Taking you at face value it appears that your list does not include doing a backup. Perhaps you are so expert in the practice that you "understand" that but if you are going to refer novices to your site you need to offer them a complete list along with the ubiquitous advertising.
Anyone wanting my list can get it for free ... here it is:
    1. Read the relevant Oracle documents
    2. Go to metalink and research any problems others have had with the procedure
    3. Create an RDA, zip it, and have it ready to upload to metalink
    4. Perform a level 0 backup using RMAN
    5. Verify the backup is valid and can be used for a restore
    6. Start flashback logging if not already running
    7. Create a guaranteed restore point
    8. Follow the directions at Step 1 except as modified by docs read in Step 2.
Not one of those steps is in your list Don? And, quite frankly, I think people would be ill-advised to consider steps on what to do for "SLOW PERFORMANCE AFTER UPGRADE" any guidance on performing the upgrade itself.
But heck ... anytime you can send people to a page full of advertisements why miss the chance.
People interested in tuning would be well advised to go to one of these URLs:

  • Moving oracle database to a new server with an upgraded oracle software

    Hi Guys,
Here is the scenario, we have an existing Oracle 9.2 demo database on a Solaris 5.9 server. I was asked to transfer this to another server with same OS but with an Oracle 10g software installed. The original plan was to mount the exisiting Oracle home from the original server to the new server and from there copy all the database files and bring up the database.
    Here are the steps:
    - Issue an "alter database backup controlfile to trace", get the script from the trace file
    - Copy all database files to the new server
    - Edit parameter files
    - Do a startup mount recreate the control files, do a recover database, and startup the database on the new server.
I suggested that we to a transport tablespace but due to limited resources and that the 9.2 database does not have this feature we can't perform this process. I also can't do a exp/imp of the database since we really have limited resources on a disk. I was wondering if the steps I enumerated above are correct? Or would result in an error?

    Hi,
why you want to recreate the controlfile, does the mount point locations are changing from old server to new server?
if you recreating controlfile new incarnation starts, keep in mind.
you have the downtime to upgrade.. :)
    shutdown
take cold backup and move to new server.
create the directory structure as exist in PFILE including CRD files.
    install software
    startup upgrade
upgrade database(need to add sysaux TBS)
    shut immediate
    startup
    *@?/rdbms/admin/utlrp.sql*
    change hostname in listner.ora/tnsnames.ora files.
    Thanks

  • Oracle8i for Linux Release announcement

I received a copy of this Oracle marketing announcement today:
The Linux tidal wave continues and Oracle is right at the
    forefront. We have
been experiencing tremendous demand on Linux since Oracle8 was
    announced for
that platform last October. Over 50,000 developers have
    downloaded Oracle8
for Linux from Oracle Technology Network (OTN) since March, with
    the first
20,000 coming in just the first 10 days! We now have over 800
    paying
customers with over half the orders coming from enterprise
    accounts and most
of the remainder orders from mid-sized businesses.
This week Oracle is announcing the shipping of Oracle8i for
    Linux. Already,
20,000 developers have registered for early access. With new
    internet
technologies like Java and XML built right into Oracle8i for
    Linux, this
release promises to be the hottest yet.
Read on for more information about:
    - What are we announcing?
    - What are the key messages?
    - What is the pricing for Oracle8i on Linux?
    - Why does Oracle care about Linux?
    - Who are Oracle's major Linux Partners?
    - Which products are available on Linux?
    - Who is driving the Oracle on Linux effort and what are we
    doing?
    - Where to find more information about Oracle on Linux?
    What are we announcing?
Oracle is announcing today that it has been receiving extremely
    strong demand
for its Linux based products over the past quarter and is also
    shipping
    Oracle8i for Linux to manufacturing.
    What are the key messages?
Linux represents the ultimate commodity operating system -- its
    fast, reliable
and almost free! Businesses can now spend their time focusing on
    the higher
value software they buy to run their businesses (such as
    databases and applications).
With over 800 customers paying for Oracle on Linux, Linux is
    progressing from
its roots as a student and developer operating system to a viable
    deployment
    environment in large business.
Oracle has the best database on Linux. With over 50,000 people
    using Oracle8
and over 20,000 people registered through Oracle Technology
    Network (OTN) for
Oracle8i, Oracle is the overwhelming choice for the Linux
    operating system.
What is the pricing for Oracle8i on Linux?
Pricing of Oracle8i on Linux follows the standard Oracle price
    list (see
http://appsweb.us.oracle.com/amapp/). Linux may be a freeware
    operating
system, but Oracle on Linux is not free. Oracle does offer
    developer licenses
through Oracle Technology Network (OTN) which allows developers
    to use Oracle
    software for non-commercial use.
Why does Oracle care about Linux?
Linux is hot! It is rapidly becoming the preferred platform for
    small ISP's
and is used extensively by many of the internet's largest portal
    sites. For
Oracle, Linux is the fastest growing operating system, growing at
    three times
that of WindowsNT. Oracle on Linux presents customers a viable
    low-cost, yet
highly stable alternative to WindowsNT. That said, with 46% of
    the NT market,
Oracle is also the best selling database on NT!
Oracle now has over 800 customers on Linux. This statistic alone
    strongly
contradicts the common perception that Linux is solely used by
    students and
developers. Linux has already established a foothold in many
    Fortune 100
companies and although deployments are still currently small
    compared to NT
and Solaris, they are accelerating rapidly.
Which products are available on Linux?
    Currently available on Linux are:
    - Oracle8.0.5 Standard and Enterprise Edition
    - Oracle8i Release 8.1.5
    - Oracle Application Server 4.0.7 (40 Bit)
    - Oracle Application Server 3.0.2 (40 Bit)
    - Oracle WebDB 2.0.5.6.1
Who are Oracle's major Linux Partners?
Redhat Software - Linux distributors. Oracle has also made an
    equity
    investment in RedHat. (http://www.redhat.com)
Caldera System - Linux distributors. Novell spin-off, focus
    primarily on
    enterprise customers. (http://www.caldera.com)
Turbolinux - Linux distributor. Has a mostly Asia presence.
VA Linux Systems - Hardware vendor, making Linux systems.
Linuxcare - Linux support provider. (http://www.linuxcare.com)
Who is driving the Oracle on Linux effort?
There are two teams within Oracle working closely to drive the
    Oracle strategy
and goals on Linux: Internet Platform Marketing and the Linux SBU
    (Strategic
    Business Unit).

Yeah, I got a couple of those....but if you go to Oracle, there
is nothing about it, and nothing new on the OTN download...

: 20,000 coming in just the first 10 days! We now have over 800
    : paying
: customers with over half the orders coming from enterprise
    : accounts and most
: of the remainder orders from mid-sized businesses.
: This week Oracle is announcing the shipping of Oracle8i for
    : Linux. Already,
: 20,000 developers have registered for early access. With new
    : internet
: technologies like Java and XML built right into Oracle8i for
    : Linux, this
: release promises to be the hottest yet.
: Read on for more information about:
: - What are we announcing?
: - What are the key messages?
: - What is the pricing for Oracle8i on Linux?
: - Why does Oracle care about Linux?
: - Who are Oracle's major Linux Partners?

: - Who is driving the Oracle on Linux effort and what are we
    : doing?

    : What are we announcing?
: Oracle is announcing today that it has been receiving extremely
    : strong demand
: for its Linux based products over the past quarter and is also
    : shipping
: Oracle8i for Linux to manufacturing.
: What are the key messages?
: Linux represents the ultimate commodity operating system -- its
    : fast, reliable
: and almost free! Businesses can now spend their time focusing
    on
    : the higher
: value software they buy to run their businesses (such as
    : databases and applications).
: With over 800 customers paying for Oracle on Linux, Linux is
    : progressing from
: its roots as a student and developer operating system to a
    viable
    : deployment
    : environment in large business.
: Oracle has the best database on Linux. With over 50,000 people
    : using Oracle8
: and over 20,000 people registered through Oracle Technology
    : Network (OTN) for
: Oracle8i, Oracle is the overwhelming choice for the Linux
    : operating system.
: What is the pricing for Oracle8i on Linux?
: Pricing of Oracle8i on Linux follows the standard Oracle price
    : list (see
    : http://appsweb.us.oracle.com/amapp/). Linux may be a freeware
    : operating
: system, but Oracle on Linux is not free. Oracle does offer
    : developer licenses
: through Oracle Technology Network (OTN) which allows developers
    : to use Oracle
    : software for non-commercial use.
: Why does Oracle care about Linux?
: Linux is hot! It is rapidly becoming the preferred platform
    for
    : small ISP's
: and is used extensively by many of the internet's largest
    portal
    : sites. For
: Oracle, Linux is the fastest growing operating system, growing
    at
    : three times
: that of WindowsNT. Oracle on Linux presents customers a viable
    : low-cost, yet
: highly stable alternative to WindowsNT. That said, with 46% of
    : the NT market,
: Oracle is also the best selling database on NT!
: Oracle now has over 800 customers on Linux. This statistic
    alone
    : strongly
: contradicts the common perception that Linux is solely used by
    : students and
: developers. Linux has already established a foothold in many
    : Fortune 100
: companies and although deployments are still currently small
    : compared to NT
: and Solaris, they are accelerating rapidly.
: Which products are available on Linux?
: Currently available on Linux are:
    : - Oracle8.0.5 Standard and Enterprise Edition
    : - Oracle8i Release 8.1.5
    : - Oracle Application Server 4.0.7 (40 Bit)
    : - Oracle Application Server 3.0.2 (40 Bit)
    : - Oracle WebDB 2.0.5.6.1
: Who are Oracle's major Linux Partners?
: Redhat Software - Linux distributors. Oracle has also made an
    : equity
    : investment in RedHat. (http://www.redhat.com)
: Caldera System - Linux distributors. Novell spin-off, focus
    : primarily on
    : enterprise customers. (http://www.caldera.com)
: Turbolinux - Linux distributor. Has a mostly Asia presence.
: VA Linux Systems - Hardware vendor, making Linux systems.
    : Linuxcare - Linux support provider. (http://www.linuxcare.com)
: Who is driving the Oracle on Linux effort?
: There are two teams within Oracle working closely to drive the
    : Oracle strategy
: and goals on Linux: Internet Platform Marketing and the Linux
    SBU
    : (Strategic
    : Business Unit).

  • Oracle 8i, Getting ORA-1501 error while creating new DB

    Hi folks,
I am trying create a new database on an HP Machine (Details given below) but getting following error.
ORA-1501 - signalled during Create Database
    LOGFILE 'G:\logfiles\logaf1.ora'
We actually have a custom application setup.exe to create new database.
Same setup when installed on a different low end machine works fine.
Before begining the setup in summary page it shows following information.
Block buffer count = -3 Bytes
Shared Pool Size = -41425 KBytes
Yes the values displayed are in negative.
Don't know if this is the reason for the ORA-1501 error.
Can anyone please suggest how to resolve this issue.
    Machine configuration is as follows:
    H/W details:
    HP Server with RAID configuration
    4, PIII CPU's
    RAM: "4 GB"
    S/W details
    O.S:Windows 2000 Server with Service Pack-2
    Oracle Version: 8i
Patch applied: Oracle8i Patch Set Version 8.1.7.3.0

Try look to alert<SID>.log file for full error report (you could paste it here).
Also from alert log you could get real values for db_block_buffers and shared_pool_size parameters that used during instance startup.

    Hello,
I have been attempting to download Oracle 8i for linux and my connection appears to get broken during the file transfer. The file is over 500 Mb but I have only managed to receive about 150 Mb before the connection was lost.
The file appears to be a tar but is not compressed. Could the file be compressed to minimise download time and reduce the likelihood of file corruption during transfer?
Also, is Oracle for Linux available on CD? Is there a fee for the CD and delivery?
Any advice concerning download of this file would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Ralph.

http://otn.oracle.com/software/htdocs/downloadFAQ.html has the answer for it.
If you are downloading to windows use www.getright.com's share ware to download 500MB in less time.
If using linux, then http://devel-home.kde.org/%7Ecaitoo/index.html will help you to down load it.

  • Oracle Developer 6.0

I have installed the Oracle Developer 6.0 and Oracle8 packages on my 95
Windows computer. The Oracle listener will not execute properly. I
configured the tnsnames.ora file like the book says too, but when I try
to execute in from the run prompt on the start
c:\ora95po\bin\tnslsnr80.exe port=1521. The window briefly opens in DOS
mode then disappears indicating that it isn't working properly. The
database will open correctly but the SQL Plus will not run because the
listener isn't working?? please help me to troubleshoot this problem...
    Thank you,

We have converted 4.5 to 6.0 without any major problem on
client/server. But when we moved to Web implementation there
were extensive cosmetic and code changes.
