Oracle 8 on Linux, web server access

I've installed Oracle 8.0.5 on Linux and would like to know the
best way to access it using CGI. I have a reasonable knowledge
of C and would prefer not to have to switch to Java/JDBC. Do I
have to use Pro*C? Where can I learn more about CGI scripts and
Oracle? Should I save myself some time and use Perl or Java?
If the Linux box hosting the Oracle database is on a seperate
server from the web server (say, Apache), does this mean I have
to use Net8?
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Im embarking on such a project currently at work - however the
oracle 8 database is running on the same machine as the
webserver apache1.3.6, I recommend looing at PHP which is a Pre-
Processor module for Apache which can connect to and pass any
sql commands to your oracle database and have the data returned -
the php code is just inserted into the html and preprocessed so
that the <?php .... ?> tags are replaced with the returned data
before the pages are served. This is an simple solution that as
far as i can see has no limitations and requires learning only
PHP which is very simple. As for the oracle database being on a
different machine you have to look into it but i doubt it would
be much of a problem. check PHP at www.php.net
hope this helps

How do I do this? I've uploaded the files and not sure what to do now?
    Any help will be great...thanks!

    Hi Jacques,
think I'm having a similar type pf problem you experienced way back in May.
Did the below suggestion fix your issue.
I'm running Red Hat Ent 5.0 with MySQL and BOXI 3.1.
    I get the error
A database error occured. The database error text is: {Driver Manager} Data source name not found, and no default driver specified. (WIS 10901)
I know my unixODBC can't be working correctly since my isql doesn't work.
I've been hanging out in these forum's the past few days and your problem seems to match the one I'm experiencing at the moment.
I'd appreciate it if you can remember how you overcame the issue and could share your learnings.

  • CAC or smart card use with Oracle database and web server

I've been asked to smart card (CAC) enable our Oracle web server and database access. We currently use CAC to access many of our other applications.
Where can I find the following information

How to integrate Oracle App server (web server) with CAC.
How would I need to change the database users accounts to be CAC enabled rather than database users accounts.

  • Oracle dblink to sql server, accessing multiple database on same sql server under one dblink

Hi, we have successfully managed to set up an Oracle dblink over to sql server and retrieve data.
The sql server user were using via the dblink has access to more than one database on the same sql server
But the question is how in oracle (if at all possible) do you prefix the sql statement to access this ?
    Eg:
Sqlserver_prod has user sqlserver_user which appears to be set up as default database on sqlserver_db1
But we have select access to sqlserver_db2
    all work fine as sqlserver_user
    select * from  table_fromdb1
    select * from  dbo.table_fromdb1
    select * from  sqlserver_db1.dbo.table_fromdb1
    as does
    select * from  sqlserver_db2.dbo.table_fromdb2
    over in Oracle
    Oracle_db has dblink sqlserver_prod.world connecting as sqlserver_user
    all working fine
    select * from "table_fromdb1"@sqlserver_prod
    select * from "dbo"."table_fromdb1"@sqlserver_prod
but how (if at all possible) do I access from oracle
    sqlserver_db2.dbo.table_fromdb2
without having to create a new sqlserver_db2_user referenced in a new dblink
if oracle to oracle would be
    select * from remote_oracle_schema.table@remote_oracle_db

Hi, ok cheers, I see, original gateway was connecting purely at host_name level
    HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO=sqlserver_host
Planning to amend this to be
    HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO=sqlserver_host//sqlserver_db1
    With exisiting dblink
    And to create new gateway
    HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO=sqlserver_host//sqlserver_db2
With new exisitng dblink, will see how we get on
    Cheers again

Did anyone have luck installing the 10g HTTP server on a Windows 2008 R2 (64-bit) server ?
I could see the installation went fine, but I don't see any "Oracle_HTTP" windows service getting created.

I have not installed on this OS but I'm betting the service is a different name.

    Hi Mr. BigMAN,
I'm not sure if the CLOB issue solved by patch_CR067935.zip has this symptom. In any case, you should install
the patch because you will need it if you are going to use Portal 4.0 sp1 with Oracle. Everyone out there who is
using Oracle with Portal 4.0 sp1 should install this patch (search for "67935" at this location:
    http://e-docs.bea.com/wlp/docs40/relnotes/relnotes.htm#246667
Back to your current problem: Did you run the loadSampleData script? Try running it after you install the
patch. ( http://edocs.bea.com/wlp/docs40/deploygd/oraclnew.htm#1040434 ). Also, make sure you set up the JDBC
Helper Service for all of the J2EE applications that use JDBC services. (
http://edocs.bea.com/wlp/docs40/deploygd/oraclnew.htm#1064575 ). You need to configure the p13nApp, portal, and
    wlcsApp.
Let me know if you continue to have problems with this and I'll see what I can do to help.

  • Access websites hosted on local web server

    Hi there,
I have a Cisco ASA 5505 in my home office which has a few PCs behind it with a linux web server running some websites. I can access the websites from outside no problem (i.e. on my iPhone using a 3G connection). However, I struggle to access the websites from within the network. The ASA gives me this error:
    6
    May 05 2013
    11:52:27
    192.168.55.61
    50420
Failed to locate egress interface for TCP from inside:192.168.55.61/50420 to 86.*.*.*/80
ASA runs version 9. Here is the config bit:
    object network denon-server
    host 192.168.55.200
access-list outside_access_in extended permit tcp any object denon-server eq www
    object network denon-server
nat (any, outside) static interface service tcp www www
    Any suggestions?

    Hi,
I assume that you are trying to reach the LAN server with the public IP address that the ASA holds and also uses for the above Port Forward / Static PAT configuration?
If this is the situation then I am afraid that with the current configuration that is not possible. The NAT configuration towards Internet is done between probably "inside" and "outside". So "outside" interface holds the public IP address. ASA doesnt let you connect to that "outside" IP address from behind the "inside" IP address. (Or any other interface for that matter)
What you could try to do is configure a NAT that would enable you to use the public IP address of the server even when connecting from the "inside" of ASA.
    Try this
    object network SERVER-LOCAL
    host 192.168.55.200
    object network SERVER-PUBLIC
    host 86.x.x.x
    object network LAN
    subnet 192.168.55.0 255.255.255.0
nat (inside, inside) source dynamic LAN interface destination static SERVER-PUBLIC SERVER-LOCAL
    Where
SERVER-LOCAL = Is the "object" that defines the real IP address of the server
SERVER-PUBLIC = Is the "object" that defines the public IP address of the server (that ASA holds on its "outside")
LAN = Is the "object" that defines the subnet from where LAN users connect to the server public IP address
Check that the network mask is correct for the LAN and fill in the public IP address.
The actual NAT configuration tells the ASA this
When a connection from LAN is coming towards SERVER-PUBLIC then UN-NAT SERVER-PUBLIC to SERVER-LOCAL and NAT LAN to "inside" interface IP address (as defined by the parameter "interface" in the configuration)
This should enable the LAN hosts to use the public IP address to connect to the server. The server though will see the connections coming from the ASA "inside" interface IP address.
    Hope this helps

  • Problems on installing BlazeDS on GoDaddy's shared Linux web hosting server

GoDaddy's shared Linux hosting supports Tomcat (V 5.0.27 on JVM 1.5.0_22).

Any suggestions? Has anyone successfully deployed and run BlazeDS in the Tomcat in GoDaddy's shared Linux web server?

Do you get any error messages on the Tomcat logs when the app is started?

What do you mean by this? Have you deployed the blazeds.war and your own war file to the server or did you somehow put your code inside the blazeds.war?

  • Local Web Server No Longer Working In ML

    Hello,
Previous to updating to Mountain Lion, I had my Imac set as a local web server and everything worked fine. After updating to ML, I no longer have local web server access. Also seems that my /etc/apache2/users/USERNAME.conf is gone? Do I need to reset all the files I configured prior to installing ML?
    Thanks JR

    I created a new ect/apache2/users/currentuser.conf with
    <Directory "/Users/username/Sites/">
          Options Indexes MultiViews
          AllowOverride All
          Order allow,deny
          Allow from all
    </Directory>
But now when I try to view a current site on the Mac, it just lists out the php code and not the page?
    Thanks JR

  • Enable Web Service access for a Web service-enabled client

    Hi,
I want to access data in Oracle CRM On Demand from a Web services-enabled client. The "Oracle Web Services On Demand Guide" suggest the Web Services Access should be granted by Customer Care representative. By default, this access is enabled for the Administrator role for new companies. However my admin account can't access web services from a web enable client.
Can anyone please suggest me the setting/step that i need to enable Oracle On Demand Web service access from a Web services-enabled client?
Note: I am new to oracle on demand so my query can be a silly thing.
    Thanks & Regards
    Ravish

I was able to resolve this issue. Actually, i was trying with trial account that don't allow the OCOD web service integration.

  • NTLM for Apache web server

First, I didn't find a specific category in the forums for the Apache web server that comes with Oracle 8i and 9i, so if this isn't the right place, I'd like to know where it is.
Anyway, has anyone had success using NTLM with recent versions of Oracle's Apache web server? I had it working with 8.1.7, but when I upgraded to 8.1.7.3, it broke again. It doesn't work with 9.2 either. Oracle support was quite unimpressed that I had even tried it at all, but I think it is something that should be part of an intranet web server in a corporate environment, since Windows is on most desktops.
    Thanks,
    Andy Johnson

NT Lan Manager authentication for Apache? Are there even APIs published by Microsoft? On the other hand, I would not be surprised if a module exists. (then again Oracle would not support it for their variant of Apache=OHS)

  • Business Objects Enterprise XI 4.0 / Linux / Oracle / Tomcat Web Server

    Hello Experts,
I have never done a BOBJ install before and I have some questions:
First, here is our setup: Business Objects Enterprise XI 4.0 / Linux / Oracle / Tomcat Web Server
    1.     We are being asked how big u2013 disk space- to make the server. All I can find is 14 GB for an English only install, there is no documentation on how big the databases need to be. Does anyone have any experience and can tell me how big the databases are going to be initially? I need to tell the server team how much space to put on the server.
    2.     The documentation says to have two databases or schemas, one for Central Management Server and one for the Auditing Data Store. My question around this is whether there is a preferred way to do it, separate databases or separate schemas?
    3.     The documentation does not say anything about the file system layout, do we need to create the standard SAP file system layout (i.e. /sapmnt, etc.)
Many many thanks in advance, any advice would be a greate help .. please help
    Regards,
    Sunil Patel

    Hi,
    here are some answers:
    1. Well for the Installation of the Software as itself (not the databases) i would recommend at least 30 GB. All the Reports are getting stored physically in the installation directory. This behavior is by default. Later you can move the FileStore (where the Reports, Universes, etc. are located in) to a NAS share f.e.
With Regards to the Databases i would recommend 1 GB for the CMS DB and 5 GB for the Audit DB. It depends on how you Audit your System. If you audit more actions, more information in the Audit DB will be stored.
    2. 2 Schemas on one DB is fine
    3. Usually you run a BOE installation on UNIX/LINUX under an installation user. BOE will be installed into his Home Directory.
    Regards
    -Seb.
