Oracle 8i client connection problem

Hello
I have installed the Oracle 8i Client S\w on to my machine and have put in the required and correct Net Service names etc... Have also added the JDBC drivers in the Path field!
But still when I run a sample Java program checking jdbc connections... i get an error ORA:12560 TNS: Protocol Adapter error
Can anyone please help me resolve it?

The TNSNAMES.ora file looks very fine and I have also checked the listener, which works fine too! But still I can not connect to the main databse thru the dev. machine! It would be very nice if someone can help me coz this is getting serious and urgent!

The project which i did with C# (vs.net 2005) and Oracle XE , works well on my developer machine but i am getting a connection string error on the client side. The error comes from System.Exception class not from OracleException.

1. What is the client machine locale? Is it Turkish by any chance?
2. Try using lowe case "user id" in the connection string instead of upper case "USER ID".

How to solve Oracle SQL Developer connection problem ?

Hello. I am using Oracle Database 11gR1. The Database Control Console https://localhost.localdomain:1158/em works correctly. I can create a Database and a table successfully.
My OS is Linux and connects to internet successfully.
In order to run SQL statements. we need to use Oracle SQL Developer. I connect Oracle SQL Developer in the following way:
Connection Name: DB1 (this is my database name as well)
Username: SYS (this is the user name I used to login to the Console)
Password: SYS (this the password used to login to the Console)
Connection Type: Basic
Host Name: localhost
Port: 1158
SID: DB1 (this is created during installing the Database)
But the error message comes up: "Status: Failure - IO exception Connection Reset."
Can any folk tell me how to solve Oracle SQL Developer connection problem ?

to find the hostname open terminal/command prompt in oracle installed machine

you can find the ipaddress of the server
port number: 1521 (default) ----> i guess , else check the port number in the tnsnames.ora file under your ORACLE_HOME/network/admin folder

Oracle 10g client connect to oracle 11g server

Hi All,
In my system, i have installed oracle 11g server(11.1.0.6.0). while i try to connect to this server by 10g client in my friends system,which is in the same network,it is showing
ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist,
then i tried with other system (using oracle10g client), its showing
ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
then i tried with one another system (using oracle 9i client) -- its is connected.
what may be the problem. not connecting using oracle 10g client. and also different error.

On the server machine, log on as the owner of the oracle software, and at a command prompt enter the command "lsnrctl status". Again, Copy the entire session -- commands and results -- and paste it all back here.

Oracle 9 client connecting to 10g server

Hello,
Is it possible to connect an Oracle 9i client to an Oracle 10g server? Is there any known issues/problems with that?
Because I'm facing the issue that with the same application connecting to different oaracle versions, when I connect to the 10g I get some connection errors, I'm wondering if going back to client 9i and connect to a 10g server would be a good test.

If Oracle knows little about connection pools it is true. If by changing the Oracle version some issues arise I wouldn't immediately discard the interoperability version issue.
In this case the OP faces probably a big issue. The application has to be upgraded and all the compatibility matrix revisited. The main problem when working with unsuported versions is that in case it has to do with a bug from 9i Oracle has limited support by means of the Extended Support option.
Does it have to actually do with interoperability, bugs or application configuration is something that cannot be accurately established after the partial information provided by the OP.

Oracle 11g client Update Problem

I have problem with oracle 11g client, I have a treatment that is has selected information and update after the last treatment.The problem is that the update is sometimes the enssemble fields, even those I do not want to update.
I use the 11g client with c #, my procedure is like update WHERE num = @ aram.I have doubts about the problems of loss of connection, because it give me the log: host not found, but there is a transaction, and in case of emergency I did a rollback.is there anyone who approaches to this problem??I took you to kindly help me, because the project and in production mode

Apart from the fact that this has nothing to do with Oracle Forms the certifications and the version checks of the installer are there for a reason. Copying one version file doesn't make your RHEL6 a RHEL3. RHEL6 most certainly uses a different kernel, different libraries, different everything then RHEL3 (yes, Software Vendors change version numbers of their products not just for fun!). You might get lucky (using your friend google) that you get it working with some effort, but this doesn't guarantee that everything works and given the fact that this is not certified getting help is not that easy. Better yet is to save yourself the time and stick with certified combinations (maybe use OEL insted of RHEL?)

2504 controller + 2602 APs = wireless clients connectivity problems

Hello, everybody!
I have a connectivity problems of wireless clients. The symptoms are:
1) Some clients receive 169.254.x.x., instead a correct DHCP addresses, less in a minute connection drops, and in controller's "Monitor" > "Clients" tab these clients are marked as "Excluded".
2) Most of the clients receive the correct addresses from DHCP (192.168.2.x), but also loose connection soon.
3) Wireless clients with correct addresses can't ping each other, gateway and an address of the controller's dynamic interface (all of them are in same subnet).
4) And the most suspicious problem is that some machines are unable to connect to APs after several attemps to do that. I mean, I configure controller and change some options, trying to understand, whether they were applied or not and constantly connect and disconnet certain PC to the SSID. After five or ten attempts I can't connect to the SSID. During these attempts, the others PCs stay connected, without interruptions, and they could be reconnected again. It's like some kind of port security works, but I'm not sure...
Do you have any ideas which options should I configure?
My configuration:
I have three interfaces on the controller: virtual, management (default) and dynamic (it is set to the WLAN)
I have one SSID, WPA/WPA2, AES/TKIP, authentication PSK.
My clients are a/b/g/n, all are permitted on the controller. No custom security policies were applied.
All the devices are in a single room: controller, one AP and different clients: desktop, notebooks, iPad, Nokia Lumia, etc.
I have an internal DHCP Server on the controller and it works perfectly well.
I can provide all the screenshots required from web-interface of the controller...

Hi, there!
The problem was solved.
1) APIPA address receives only single machine with Win8 - I think there are some firewall issues
2) Other devices have been loosing connection because they were mobile devices, like iPad and Lumia. If you keep working with it, it doesn't drop the connection
3) The dynamic interface address and gateway address were inaccessible because i had not used an appropriate port on the controller. =)))) Firstly, it was just a guess, but it proved.
Now, everything works with WPA2, AES, PSK...
It is a very good day!)
The only question remains: why I can't connect machines, which have a static IP? During the controller initialization, I said "yes" for permitting static IPs...

CSCum49200 - 7.6 Broadcom client connectivity problems if WMM enabled w/ ap2600

I have this issue when using Apple Macbook Pro in my network.
I have seen in thsi forum this problem occurs only with 3600 APs, but i`m having this same problem using 2602 APs.
can someone tell me if this is the same problema and if i cansolve this disbling the WMM?

Instant Client Connection Problem - Excel 2007 to Oracle 10g

Dear users,
I would some help to connect Excel to Oracle.
I am using Excel 2007 (32-bit) on Windows Vista Enterprise 64-bit. I want to connect to an Oracle 10g database through our local network using ODBC. I need to fetch some data once into an excel sheet.
There are no firewall issues or connection issues between my current machine , as I can connect from my machine, using SQL developer as a local client to the Oracle Database which is on another machine on the network.
I tried to make an ODBC connection but Oracle is not listed as a driver.
I beleive ODBC is the best way to do this, but please correct me if I am wrong.
It is an Oracle 10G database.
I downloaded instantclient-basiclite-windows.x64-11.2.0.2.0.zip a
I also downloaded the extra ODBC components: *Instant Client Package - ODBC: Additional libraries for enabling ODBC applications.
I unzipped both in a folder called C:\instantclient_11_2
The system path included that. I checked after rebooting.
I placed my tnsnames.ora (which I copied from the server) in that folder.
I got ti from the server : D:\Oracle\Ora10gR2DB\network\admin\tnsnames.ora
I ran the exe "odbc_install" and It told me the ODBC was intalled successfully.
When I went the control panel, administrative tools, ODBC
In the user dsn tab
I added a new entry. I chose the Oracle driver (previously it was not in the list)
Used the following values
Data Source name: OracleL
Description 123
TNS Service NAme: I chose fro ma drop down menu our prod environment. (There are two entries with the production name, one in caps and the other in lowercase)
Userid: my username
I tried Test the connection and got this:
Unable to Connect
SQlState=S1000
[Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist
Any suggestions please.

You probably should remove current ic packages and get the 32-bit ones instead.
Start over.
When I went the control panel, administrative tools, ODBCOn Windows x64, to manage 32-bit ODBC DSNs/drivers one needs to run the tool from Windows\SysWoW64\odbcad32.exe.

Oracle 11g XE Connectivity Problems

Oracle Version : 11g XE (x32)
Database name : XE
I've been fighting over with providers for a whole day and I can't seem to make this work out,
I have an application(Web, on a IIS 7) that connects to a schema, the connection uses a Oracle Provider For OleDB, well at first I was getting a "Provider not registered" error, that was easy I only had to make the app run on x32 and puf the error changed, so I quickly set up the Data Source ( with the data source manager located in WOW64 ) with a oracle ole db provider, no problems, I can click on it, it will ask me for a user/password and when I click test connection I works just like I would expect it to work, now back to the application, when i set the connection string up, I get a error from the app : ORA-12154 TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified. So went up and tried making a udl ( invoking again the x32 ), same error ORA-12154 so I started digging and so far so good what I got is, "try tnsping <instance_Name>", did it, and got an OK (40ms) (though I had to navigate to bin folder, which was not explained in the posts, perhaps this means something ?) and also registered the oraoledb11.dll with regsvr32
Oh ! And I can connect to the database with sqldeveloper
I know really little of Oracle, any thoughts ?

ORA-12154 ALWAYS only occurs on SQL Client & no SQL*Net packets ever leave client system
ORA-12154 NEVER involves the listener, the database itself or anything on the DB Server.
ORA-12154 occurs when client requests a connection to some DB server system using some connection string.
TNS-03505 is thrown by tnsping & is same error as ORA-12154 thrown by sqlplus or others.
The lookup operation fails because the name provided can NOT be resolved to any remote DB.
The analogous operation would be when you wanted to call somebody, but could not find their name in any phonebook.
The most frequent cause for the ORA-12154 error is when the connection alias can not be found in tnsnames.ora.
The lookup operation of the alias can be impacted by the contents of the sqlnet.ora file; specifically DOMAIN entry.
So post the content of the sqlnet.ora file.

Oracle/ SQL Developer connection problem.

I have installed Oracle 11 g and SQL Developer, When I open SQL Developer and try to make a new connection ( I name the connection, put a user name in, put my password in), I click on "Test" and I get this error:
Status: Failure - Test failed: Listener refused the connection with the followong error:ORA-12505, TNS: listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor The connection descroptor used by the client was:localhost:1521:ex
Can anyone explain this to me and help me resolve this issue I am having?

Windows 7 Home ... will have challenges at some point, as Oracle may not be completely compatible with Windows 7.
Aside from that, you may find firewall issues even if you are on the same machine, since the default connection from SQLDeveloper is to use the network (even loopback).
First step is to verify that the database and listener are running and that the database is registered to the listener. TO do that, drop into command line and issue:
1) Listener
lsnrctl statuswhich will give one of two results, if properly installed. First - listener is down

If the database is registered (shows up in the list), the next step is to make sure a userid is available. You could use 'system' (try to avoid using SYS since it is the master userid and if you mess that up, you mess up all your homework. In a production encvironment, every access to SYS will be audited.
So, let's create a userid called me with (in 11g case sensitive) password 'myself'. Make sure that user is allow to log in (create session) and create a table.

Do you remember the XE discussion above? Replace XE with the one on the left of the equal sign - the system looks that up to find which service it wants to access.

If it did not work, try dropping the "@XE" to see whether you can get in (using the bequeath connection) which is useful for troubleshooting but will not help with the traditional SQLDeveloper connection. If you get in without the @XE (or whatever your alias is) but not with it, most likely either your listener is not up or your firewall is blocking the access to the listener.

Oracle server & client deinstallation problems

my system configuration is:
windows 2000 professionnal (SP2)
on this machine, i had the oracle client software installed (verion 8.17)
i needed the machine to install on it an oracle database, so i deinstalled the client software with the oracle 8.i CD and did not remove three datasources (user DSN driver microsoft ODBC for oracle) that used to work with the previous client version. Then, i installed the oracle server software and created the database.
the problem at this step is that i could not use the data sources that i had nither could i use the driver to create another one.
so, for the second time, i deinstalled the server software and installed the client software.
my second problem, here, (after deinstalling the server software)is that i had the services oracleora81TNSListner and oracleserviceSID that are not removed and i can not stop nor resume
i'm looking for your answer (what to do with these services and what is the solution for the data sources)

Oracle server - client connection question

This is my problem:
Server A : oracle server (behind the firewall)
Server B: the bridge server
Server C: my application is on who need to connect to the database on A
C can not connect to A directly. But it can connect to B. What are my options? If I install an oracle client on B, then can I connect to the client who will connect to the db server on A? Do I need to install a client on C as well? does it work?

Oracle 11g XE connectivity problem

I'm trying to setup a Virtual machine for test purposes using VMware Player.
I'm following Oracle® Database Express Edition Installation Guide 11g Release 2 (11.2) for Linux x86-64: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17781_01/install.112/e18802.pdf
As described there, I've installed Oracle Enterprise Linux 5 Update 2 from DVD V15099-01.zip(Enterprise-R5-U2-Server-x86_64-dvd.iso).
After that followed the instructions in the guide and installed the XE database... so far no errors or problems... while testing from local ssh session :)

But now when I try access this VM box from my windows box, from where I have ping and can open SSH connection, I get "Could not open connection to the host".
I've already disabled my windows firewall for the test - no good. Also SSH works over the network, so I don't think it's a firewall or network issue...maybe I'm missing something in listners configuration or some security setting somewhere?

What sort of access? And ssh is working? putty? Using VM NAT, or bridged?
Yes, from my desktop windows to the VM's eth0 interface I could use SSH without any concerns. Yes, I've used PuTTY Client for SSH. For VM is bridged.
That's not relevant to accessing the VM, you'll need to open up ports in the VM host firewall. Port 8080 too if you want to access the Apex pages, along with opening port 1521 for the database listener.
Yes, you are right - had to stop firewall on my VM box... since this is a dummy sandbox I just stopped firewall
service iptables stop
chkconfig iptables off
After that SQL Developer Studio managed to open connection to the XE database on this VM box over the network. Thank you!
You've got all the listener endpoints, including the http 8080 but setting up a server on dhcp isn't optimal unless you have dynamic DNS to register the VM IP for name resolution. Unless a dos box $ ping oracle11xe or $ ping oracle11xe.localdomain from the Win box gets the correct IP address of the VM ...

I've configured VM(oracle11xe.localdomain) to use static IP address(NO DHCP, I'd like to avoid involving the DHCP Server in my network in this simple test). This leads to me being able to ping it from Win Box only via IP address, what problems may show up from this? My idea was to avoid having problems, if for example I started the VM box in very different environment(lets say another network) and it gets some other IP address, because I didn't knew how oracle XE will feel about the new IP?

Oracle Forms 10g & Oracle 10g DB Connection Problem

Toady i have installed oracle forms 10g and oracle 10g db when i run my form it gives me this error how can i resolve it
