Oracle 8i - problem starting database

When I start the database this is what happens.IT will start the database, check security, then password, then instance started then error message ora-205" can not mount database". Please help me!

ORA-205: Oracle can't find its database files. If you're trying to bring up
a database for the first time, then the easiest solution is to just
re-install the initial database that comes with Oracle. If you moved a
database file that belongs to an existing database, do an ALTER DATABASE
RENAME FILE command (see your DBA Guide for more info) to tell the database
where to find the files now. If you deleted a database file, then restore
them from backups.
good luck

    HI..
    Shutdown the standby database, copy the controlfile to the locations you want, edit the pfile and add the locations of the controlfiles in contfrol_files parameter , save it and startup nomount pfile='location';
    Then mount the standby database and create spfile from pfile;

    Dear Aaron,
It worked perfectly. Thank you very much!
However, I'm still having problem to connect to the Database. The
fact is that the dbora script calls the dbstart script ("su -
    $ORA_OWNER -c $ORA_HOME/bin/dbstart &") and, inside this script,
we have the command "connect internal". At this point, I receive

I don't know if this has influency at the startup of the
Database, because at the end of the process I receive the message
    "Database "orac" warm started".
But what I know is that I don't managed to connect to the
Database using the svrmgrl or the sqlplus. I receive the error
message "ORA-01034: ORACLE not available" for every account I
    try: system/manager, sys/change_on_install, oracle/xxxx (the
account I installed Oracle), and when I try "connect internal",
it asks me for a password!!!
    Thanks once more,
    Rodney A. Ramos.

  • Problem starting Oracle Database

    I've just installed Oracle 8.0.5 on Linux Red Hat 5.2. I didn't
have problems during the installation, but after that ...
First of all, my "dbora" script doens't work. I don't know why,
because it's in the directory /etc/rc.d/init.d. Then, when I try
to start it manually, the follow mistake appear:
    ===
    ./dbora: [!: command not found
    ===
It seems that it is a sintaxe error, but I copied exactly as in
    the Installation Guide, like as:

    # from which you wish to execute dbstart and
    # dbshut

    # Stop the Oracle database:

su - oracle -c "lsnrctl start"

    Is there any mistake?
Besides, when I try to start the Oracle Database, through the

But this problem is understandable, as the database is not running. The main problem why database is not running, I have found the reason but do not understand how to solve the problem.
Since, the database was not running, I tried to startup the database, I then came across the following which is my problem (Why so many files are open? Linux OS error says too many files open. See below,

Can anybody has run into such problem and guide me to a solution, please?
    Thanks

    Hi,
yes, this DB was functioning o.k. this configuration script was part of RMAN daily backup.
Last night the backup failed. So, when I opened "Failed job" in the EM, I saw this type of messages.
That was the starting point. Gradually, I tried to narrow down on to the actual problem and found the findings as I have posted.
One way of sovling problem, I thought that, all these processes I would kill and then try to open the database, it might startup. However, that wouldnot lead me in ensuring this won't occur again.
That's why I am trying to understand why it should open, so many processes (why spawn so many .flb files?) Any thoughts you have around this?
I will try to restart the OS as the last resort.
Thanks for your help and suggestions.
    Regards,

  • Problem with starting database after aborting backup

    Hello,
I have following problem. I tried to do my first backup with EM. I switch my database to ARCHIVELOG mode then set location for archive redo logs to recovery flash area. Then EM asked me to make a backup. I accidentally clicked button refresh. After that I had to click "ok" few times and when I wanted to start database again I had a problem.
EM shows "Enterprise Manager is not able to connect to the database instance" and Agent Connection to Instance issues ORA-12528. I tried LSNRCTL>stop and LSNRCTL>start but it didn't resolve my problem.
In SQL Plus I can open the database but I can't mount it.
    Any ideas???
    I'm using Oracle 11.1.0.6.0.
    Best,
    Simon

In SQL Plus I can open the database but I can't mount it.This statement makes NO sense.
In order for the DB to be OPEN, first it needs to be able to MOUNT it,
using sqlplus along with CUT & PASTE show us what you do & how Oracle responds.

When a new database instnace is created, there is no problem starting and stopping the service, in the current session. However, the failure happens, once the the machine is rebooted.
    Any ideas?

    HI YOU!
    Can you help me?
I have problems starting Oracle Designer 6.x in Windows 98 and Personal Edition 8i.
I'm not in a LAN and I don't have the client installed.
I don't know the user systems for Designer, I prooved with the SYSTEM anad SYS user but I cant access to the product.
Do I requiere the client?. Do I require connecting to the server Database?.
    Any idea?
    THANKS!

I had this problem the best thing to do is make sure you have the Blackdown.org JDK116_v5 for Linux installed. Then:
    JAVA_HOME=/somedirectory/jdk116_v5
    export JAVA_HOME
This fixed the problem for me and I was able to run runIns.sh.

    Muba
I don't know what your cron jobs do. If (for example) they logon to the database through a service published by the scan listeners, they will be happy. If they logon using a deterministic connect string, you have a problem - a problem caused by mis-using the system.

does the script work when you log on to your freshly started system, logon as root and execute /etc/init.d/dbora start?
the script does not have to have group membership of the dba group.
also, do not create symlinks yourself.
by adding the service using chkconfig the script is started and stopped as indicated by chkconfig --list, no need to do additional steps like creating symlinks.

  • Interactive report performance problem over database link - Oracle Gateway

    Hello all;
This is regarding a thread Interactive report performance problem over database link that was posted by Samo.
The issue that I am facing is when I use Oracle function like (apex_item.check_box) the query slow down by 45 seconds.
query like this: (due to sensitivity issue, I can not disclose real table name)
    SELECT apex_item.checkbox(1,b.col3)
    , a.col1
    , a.col2
    FROM table_one a
    , table_two b
    WHERE a.col3 = 12345
    AND a.col4 = 100
    AND b.col5 = a.col5
table_one and table_two are remote tables (non-oracle) which are connected using Oracle Gateway.
Now if I run above queries without apex_item.checkbox function the query return or response is less than a second but if I have apex_item.checkbox then the query run more than 30 seconds. I have resolved the issues by creating a collection but it’s not a good practice.
I would like to get ideas from people how to resolve or speed-up the query?
Any idea how to use sub-factoring for the above scenario? Or others method (creating view or materialized view are not an option).
    Thank you.
    Shaun S.

    Hi Shaun
Okay, I have a million questions (could you tell me if both tables are from the same remote source, it looks like they're possibly not?), but let's just try some things first.
By now you should understand the idea of what I termed 'sub-factoring' in a previous post. This is to do with using the WITH blah AS (SELECT... syntax. Now in most circumstances this 'materialises' the results of the inner select statement. This means that we 'get' the results then do something with them afterwards. It's a handy trick when dealing with remote sites as sometimes you want the remote database to do the work. The reason that I ask you to use the MATERIALIZE hint for testing is just to force this, in 99.99% of cases this can be removed later. Using the WITH statement is also handled differently to inline view like SELECT * FROM (SELECT... but the same result can be mimicked with a NO_MERGE hint.
Looking at your case I would be interested to see what the explain plan and results would be for something like the following two statements (sorry - you're going have to check them, it's late!)
    WITH a AS
    (SELECT /*+ MATERIALIZE */ *
    FROM table_one),
    b AS
    (SELECT /*+ MATERIALIZE */ *
    FROM table_two),
    sourceqry AS
    (SELECT  b.col3 x
           , a.col1 y
           , a.col2 z
    FROM table_one a
        , table_two b
    WHERE a.col3 = 12345
    AND   a.col4 = 100
    AND   b.col5 = a.col5)
    SELECT apex_item.checkbox(1,x), y , z
    FROM sourceqry
    WITH a AS
    (SELECT /*+ MATERIALIZE */ *
    FROM table_one),
    b AS
    (SELECT /*+ MATERIALIZE */ *
    FROM table_two)
    SELECT  apex_item.checkbox(1,x), y , z
    FROM table_one a
        , table_two b
    WHERE a.col3 = 12345
    AND   a.col4 = 100
AND   b.col5 = a.col5If the remote tables are at the same site, then you should have the same results. If they aren't you should get the same results but different to the original query.
We aren't being told the real cardinality of the inners select here so the explain plan is distorted (this is normal for queries on remote and especially non-oracle sites). This hinders tuning normally but I don't think this is your problem at all. How many distinct values do you normally get of the column aliased 'x' and how many rows are normally returned in total? Also how are you testing response times, in APEX, SQL Developer, Toad SQLplus etc?
Sorry for all the questions but it helps to answer the question, if I can.
    Cheers
    Ben

  • Problem connecting DataBase Link from windows oracle to oracle on Linux

I'm facing a problem with database links from windows oracle to Oracle hosted on Linux server.
I'm able to successfully create the Database Link using the following query on oracle database hosted on a windows server

Check the link SB provided. Keep in mind that the tnsnames file of concern is the one on the source database server.
