=====================================================================
Problem Description
Oracle8i Standard Edition
Solution Description:
Oracle8i Standard Edition
Explanation:
===========

  • What is the diffrences between Oracle 11g standard & enterprise edition

    Hi,
Can anybody please tell the diffrences between Oracle 11g standard & enterprise edition in detail.
    Thanks in advance,
    Anindya

    Oracle Enterprise Edition:
Enterprise Edition is the full (top of the range) version or the Oracle Database Server. Options like RAC, Partitioning, Spatial, etc. can be purchased separately to enhance the functionality of the database.
    Oracle Standard Edition:
Standard Edition is designed for smaller businesses and enterprises. It offers a subset of the features/ functionality implemented in Enterprise Edition. Database options like Data Guard, Partitioning, Spatial, etc. is not available with Standard Edition (from 10g one can use RAC with Standard Edition). Standard Edition can only be licensed on servers with a maximum capacity of four processors.
    Oracle Standard Edition One:
Standard Edition One is a low cost, entry-level version of the Oracle Standard Edition database server. Standard Edition One can only be licensed on small servers with a maximum capacity of two processors.
    Oracle Personal Edition:
Personal Oracle is a single user version of the database server. It is mostly the same as Enterprise Edition, but doesn't support advanced options like RAC, Streams, XMLDB, etc.
    Oracle Lite:
Oracle Light is a database engine that can be used on mobile platforms like cell phones and PDA's.
    Oracle XE:
Express Edition (XE) is a free, downloadable version of the Oracle database server. Oracle XE can only be used on single processor machines. It can only manage up to 4 GB of data and 1 GB of memory. ISVs can embed XE in 3rd party products and redistribute it freely.

  • How can I get oracle 9.2.0.7 Enterprise edition Database for Solaris?

    Hi, everybody,
Reccently got involved in a project that require to setup Oracle 9.2.0.7 Enterprise edition Database for Solaris. However from oracle's download page, the only sun platform version for 9i is 9.2.0.1. so to get to 9.2.0.7, do i need to download upgrade patch somewhere? Did anyone go through similar setup before and could you share with me your advice?
    thanks in advance!
    -liang

Oracle produces media distribution for major releases only, not for patched versions (there has been only a few exceptions). A major release can be determined out from the first three digits, 9.2.0.
Available versions at otn and edelivery are just major versions, the requiered version 9.2.0.X.X is avalable only through patchsets.
By the way only a patchset changes the last two digits, if you require a specific individual patch it doesn't change these last two digits and a specific installation procedure is provided.
Last available patchset for 9iRel2 is 9.2.0.8.0

  • Oracle server license difference between Standard & Enterprise Edition

    Hello All,
I have basic folowing question for Oracle server "Oracle 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.3)" version.
I ahve to purchase license , which one should I purchase , standard or Enterprise edition.
    1) Is there different license required for Standard Edition & Enterprise Edition of above given Oracle version?
    2) Or same license will work on Standard & Enterprise edition ?
If I have to use Oracle 10g Release 2 *(10.2.0.4)"* , I have to purchase new license or "Oracle 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.3)" license wil work for (10.2.0.4) ?
I need above infromation on urgent basis....

Many of the questions you ask are discussed in the Software Investment Guide found at http://www.oracle.com/corporate/pricing/index.html
In general, you purchase either a Named User or a CPU license for a product. At the time of purchase, you decide whether it is a perpetual license or a term license which has an expiry date. You get a contract (which you should read) in which the limits are described - the limits may include which (or how many) machines you can install the product on.
When you buy the license, you also buy support. The support usually provides unlimited access to Metalink to ask any questions and download any patches. A support contract (which you should read) is 1 year long and is tied to a specific license purchase contract. You can not, for example, download patches for a licensed system and use those patches on other non-licensed systems. At the end of the year, you purchase a new support contract for another year.
The version of the product for which you can purchase a license is always the version that you can download at http://edelivery.oracle.com If you want to change the version number (for example, go to 10.2.0.4) you start by installing the downloaded version and apply a patch set (from metalink) to upgrade that installed version.

  • I need to download Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release1 10.1.0.4

    hi,everyone
i need to download Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release1 (10.1.0.4 and higher)
i search at the oracle.com (OTN) but i didnt find it ,
can any one help because i need it so much,
you will be more than thankfull if u help me soon.
    best wishes
    K A R I M

You need to download 10.1.0.1 from OTN and then download 10.1.0.4 patch from metalink to patch up to 10.1.0.4.
    There's no direct 10.1.0.4 download.

  • Installing Oracle 8i 8.1.6 Enterprise Edition, on RH 6.1

I have just received my Oracle 8i release 2 8.1.6 CD and attempted an install, after first satisfying all prerequisites.
When installing Oracle 8i 8.1.6 Enterprise Edition, all is OK until the "linking Secure
Sockett Layer" phase, when a message box appears with the following: "Error in
    invoking target nnfgt.o of makefile
/usr/opt/oracle/8i/8.1.6/network/lib/ins_net_client.mk". If this is ignored several
more appear with diferent target names.
Eventually the install completes, but when the Net8 Configuration Assistant runs it stops with the following error: "libcIntsh.so.8.0: Cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory (libnjni8.so). Error loading native
    library: libnjni8.so Java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: JniGetOracleHome".
    I am using:
    JRE V1.1.6 V5
Have also tried with the latest IBM JRE V1.1.8 for RH Linux.
    RH Linux V6.1.
I had great hopes for 8.1.6 having spent weeks failing to get 8.1.5 to install.
Come back NT all is forgiven!!

Tried that, still no luck, same error.
I installed the two kernal items listed in
the rpm install screen from CD1:
    Kernel Headers
    Kernel Libraries
or did you install the kernel source from
    CD2?
Also did you set any additional path's?
    Many thanks

  • Oracle manually standby database with standard edition

Hi, I want to have a plan for disaster. I'm triying with two virtual machines with oracle database 10g on suse linux. I follow these URLs
    http://www.dbasupport.com/oracle/ora10g/manual_standby.shtml
    http://oramdq.blogspot.com/2009/05/como-configurar-un-sistema-de-alta.html
and it look that work all right.
I know that with manually standby database we applied archived logs, and so, we don't propagate any physical changes to secondary database (standby), for example, if I create a new tablespace, or adding a new datafile to an existing tablespace, it don't work in the secondary database.
Anyone does know how is the better way to apply the physical changes??
Anyone have any scripts to do that?
    Thanks in advance.

    HI,
Add the STANDBY_FILE_MANAGEMENT = AUTO to the primary parameter file, it will solve it.

    Hi Anit,
Is it safe to do so.ALWAYS check with your CSR for licensing deals, things change constantlt.
what are the difference between both the edition.EE has all the goodies! Here is my list of differences in SE and EE: http://www.dba-oracle.com/art_so_oracle_standard_enterprise_edition.htm
what are the restriction i can face if i am moving form 10g enterprise to 10g standard. No replication, no Data Guard, no stored outlines, no MV's . . . .
what are the steps i have to do to do the same.Just install SE, point your $ORACLE_HOME to it and bounce
Hope this answers your question . . .

This is not possible with Oracle 8i but is only possible with Oracle 11g in some specific cases: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28294/standby.htm#i72053.

  • Problems with installation of Oracle Database 11g, Enterprise edition

I am having trouble with the whole DHCP setting on my windows vista business OS.
I went throught the steps to install a loopback adapter which is supposed to be a solution for DHCP-enabled computers. When I check to see if I have a loopback adapter, it is showing that it is the "local area connection 2."
But at some point during the installation, it says that I need to make the loopback adapter the primary network setting. Is this what is preventing a successful installation? I went through the installation process to the end despite this error message and it seemed to install ok. I created a database using the Database Config Manager. Now I am having trouble accessing this database. Is this related to the error message I described above?
I created a username and password at the database creation page.
When I go into command prompt I type in "sql plus" and then my username and password.
But it says "ORACLE not available."
Any help would be much appreciated.

Don't bother with a loopback adapter unless you are using a laptop that needs Oracle to work whether connected or unconnected to the business network. Much simpler to just arrange for DHCP to assign you a fixed IP address (a lease reservation).
It's the change of IP address which trips Oracle up, not the existence of DHCP. So if you can make sure your IP address will be the same, no matter how you acquire it, that's all you have to do.
Installing a loopback adapter which isn't the primary interface at the point you install Oracle will mean your installation will get very confused as to whether to address things via the 127... address or the "normal" IP address. And yes, at that point, you'll not be able to connect to instances, or run listeners or do all sorts of other things reliably.
If it were me, I'd uninstall the mess you probably now have as far as Oracle goes, install something like VirtualBox (free) or VMware Workstation (costs) and enjoy your Oracle experience inside the confines of a virtual machine whose networking setup you can configure and control to your heart's content, without it screwing up your real machine's ability to connect to your work's network when it needs to.

  • Upgrade path for Oracle XE to Oracle 10G rel2 Standard/Enterprise Edition

    Good day,
We are currently have application using Oracle 10G XE. Is there a document guide available to assist migration/upgrades from Oracle 10G XE to Oracle 10G Rel2
Thank you in advance for your guidance

You can use import/export from within the apex application control to move apex applications, or if you are just interested in moving a database (and don't use apex) you can use exp/imp.

  • ISSUES WITH L.STANDBY  DB 10g Enterprise Edition R.10.2.0.4.0 -64bi

    Hello,
tnanks in advance for your replies.
I have a logical standby 10.4 Oracle Db in Hp server with 6 cpu's.
    It is not 100% a question,but better a discussion.
As far as from the documentation,i try to issue the whole scenario in 3 steps.
1.configure the parameters for log miner,...
apply server, prepare server, sga, eagger, max transaction cout, max servers.Which is the best approach.I have to mention that the problem is if i have a heavy load in primary one and stays 3-4 hours back.Any advice, considerations.
    2.Take statistics every day.
3.Make indexes for updates-inserts,cause of the particular way of work tha log miner works.Any suggestion.
Is there something that i have missed??
    Thnanks one more time..

**I am not willing or even trying to like you say "cover" someone in the OTN threads.
    Sorry.
**If you want to decrease the gap sequence, simply increase the bandwidth between two sites. When the system is powerful enough to send the archivelogs faster than the Oracle will be fast enough to support huge number of archivelogs generated. Please also bear in mind that there is only one MRP process which applies the transferred archivelogs to the standby system and dealing with those fancy stuff written in the documentation will only help you a little bit but the important part is the line bandwidth.
The Oracle documentation does not calculate the bandwidth needed and it only says "increase it to an higher and higher value".
I have check this from the

DICT_BEGIN AS BEG, DICT_END AS END,
    THREAD# AS THR#,applied FROM DBA_LOGSTDBY_LOG
    ORDER BY applied,SEQUENCE#;
In heavy loads , i always have 4-5 which in column applied = current and 4-5 which are in 'no',so i have enough logs.
**The next step is the power of the applying process (MRP).To conclude what i am trying to anticipate here, the Oracle documentation parameters are the in lieu of resources on the system. You need to have a lot of CPUs in order to increase that parameter. Also you need to have a lot of CPUs in order to run parallel processing SQLs and other gimmicks.
I can increase it up to 40 servers.Oracle suggest to put 3* cpu's,so in my situation,18.Which 16 are the appliers and 3 the preparers.I have set them and to 40 but the gap was larging.I beleive that it must be a balance.
    **From
    select min(pct_applied) pct_applied_min
    , max(pct_applied) pct_applied_max
    , avg(pct_applied) pct_applied_avg
    , count(server_id) number_of_appliers
    from ( select server_id
    , (greatest(nvl(s.total_assigned,0),0.00000001) /
    greatest(nvl(c.total_assigned,1),1)) * 100 pct_applied
    from v$streams_apply_server s
    , v$streams_apply_coordinator c)
    **From select name,(least(max_sga,bytes)/max_sga) * 100 pct_utilization
    from ( select *
    from v$sgastat
where name = 'Logminer LCR c'
    , (select value*(1024*1024) max_sga
    from dba_logstdby_parameters
    where name = 'MAX_SGA'
The percent is 2-3%,so i am ok.
**I have no bytes paged out
    **I have no archives gap...
    SELECT THREAD#, SEQUENCE#, FILE_NAME FROM DBA_LOGSTDBY_LOG L
    WHERE NEXT_CHANGE# NOT IN
    (SELECT FIRST_CHANGE# FROM DBA_LOGSTDBY_LOG WHERE L.THREAD# = THREAD#)
    ORDER BY THREAD#,SEQUENCE#;
    **From this query
    select operation, options, object_name, cost,CPU_COST,IO_COST
    from v$sql_plan, v$session, v$logstdby
    where v$sql_plan.hash_value = v$session.sql_hash_value
    and v$session.serial# = v$logstdby.serial#
    and v$logstdby.status_code=16113;
i check in real time if i have full table scans.
Here the results are dissapointed.I see many full tables scan(almost 200 in some cases),for updates or delete....
That's why i asked you,if the only solution is the code.
put rely on tables on production, and if possible to put indexes in standby.
    I have found some parameter,
EAGERSIZE,what's it purpose .after of test,i concluded that the appropriate value for me is about 1000-1500.
I need PRESERVE_COMMIT_ORDER ,for my data. The data are really sensitive.
    Any suggestions?
