Oracle 9i 32bit to 64bit

Dear all,
I have a question about oracle 9i change from 32bit to 64bit:
We want to change our SAP server from 32bit to 64bit (LINUX). In this case, we also want change the SAP from 32bit to 64bit (but no SAP release changed), and oracle 9i from 32bit to 64bit. Is this possible? How to do it? How much time need based on your estimate?
Because the system can not shut down more than 12 hours, we intend to use a old oracle export for new system installation and use the redolog rollforward to the lastest status. The new system is running on 64bit (oracle and SAP), but the redolog is 32bit, is it OK?
Thanks
Michael

steps are
Verify there are no invalid objects.
Verify all components in the DB are Valid
Install Oracle 64bit
Copy the Database files from the 32bit machine, to the 64bit machine.
(Datafiles, Logfiles, Controlfiles, init.ora, tnsnames.ora, listener.ora, etc..)
Run all the post scripts
When this was all done, there should be zero invalid objects.
export/import. advantage being that the old database will remain usable in case the migration fails
Good Luck

  • Oracle 10g XE migrate from 32bit to 64bit becomes slower

Oracle 10g XE migrate from 32bit to 64bit becomes slower
Currently we have a database using Oracle 10g XE R2
(Oracle Database 10g Express Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0)
    on a linux 32bit server.
And recently we did migrate it to another 64bit linux server.
But found after migration is it running slower at 64bit server (~ 25% slower)
    1. We would wonder any tuning is required on 64bit server?
Besides, as I know Oracle XE only using single core CPU for processing.
    On 32bit linux the CPU is Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E31235 @ 3.20GHz
    On 64bit linux the CPU is Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2470 v2 @ 2.40GHz
    2. Would the CPU clock speed on a single core also made the 64bit Oracle slower?
    Thanks a lot.

32 or 64 bit normally won't cause much performance difference as long as you can't use > 4GB RAM
Please note that XE can use only 1 core and 1GB memory.
According to benchmarks, Single Thread Rating of the 2 CPU really differ by around 25%. Quite consistent with your observation.
Of course, IO (i.e., disk) speed is also an important factor.

    Hi,
I Want know Oracle Database Dump is 32bit or 64bit. how can i find can you help me on thiswhy don't you try by command "file <file_name>" in unix flavors environments.
If you trying to check the dump file which got generated from the database is whether 32 bit or 64 bit, then you it would be difficult to find out. Try to check the log of dump or database environment from where it got generated.

  • 32bit and 64bit oracle 9.2

    Dear Guru's,
I have SAP 4.7 ext 200 with oracle 9.2 and windows 2003 standard edition all these are 32bit .Now my client wants to buy new hardware which is 64bit to implement the same version mentioned above.for SAP4.7 64bit kernel is available in SMP but I didnt find oracle 9.2 64bit .Please advice whether SAP 4.7 ext 200 can be installed with 64bit kernel and oracle 9.2 64bit available(OS win2003 64bit) on 64bit hardware  or all the OS and SAP with oracle 32bit on 64bit hardware should we choose.
    Best Regards,
    Sanju

Well... those are the rumours - which are just that.
Itanium is a 64bit processor - yes - but it´s a totally different architecture. Those programs will NOT run on an Intel Xeon processor. The difference between those two is, that one is IA64 (Itanium-2) and the other is X86_64 (also called x64).
You will need an installation CD set for that x86_64 (or x64) - NOT for Itanium if you have an Intel Xeon processor.
    Read the following notes:
    960769 - Windows: Migration from 32-bit to 64-bit (x86_64)
    931024 - FAQ: 64-bit platforms for Windows
Especially the second will explain the differences.
It makes no sense to install 32bit (SAP-) application software on a 64bit operating system since there are native 64bit binaries to use, without them, you won´t benefit of the 64bit hardware. You need to check, however, that 3rd party software (backup etc.) has also 64bit clients for your combination.

  • SSIS Error with Oracle 10.2 in 64Bit environment

I am trying to debug a SSIS package in BIDS which was developed in a 32 Bit environment. The machine on which I am trying to bebug is a 64Bit with Windows 2003. Our DBA has installed both the 64 Bit as well as the 32 Bit client on the 64bit machine.
When I open the package in BIDS, I am able to see the list of providers. I can create a data source using .NET Providers for Oledb\Oracle Provider for OLE DB and when I click the TEST button, the test succeeds. However, when I try to bebug the package, it errors out with the following error.
[bill_to_dim [83]] Error: System.InvalidOperationException: The 'OraOLEDB.Oracle.1' provider is not registered on the local machine. at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Wrapper.IDTSConnectionManager90.AcquireConnection(Object pTransaction) at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.DataReaderSourceAdapter.AcquireConnections(Object transaction) at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.ManagedComponentHost.HostAcquireConnections(IDTSManagedComponentWrapper90 wrapper, Object transaction)
I have checked to ensure that the oraOLEDB10.dll is registered on the machine. the Oracle\Home folder has full rights
What I dont understand is that if the connection succeeds in Design time why does it fail at Run Time.

You have to uninstall 10.2 but install Oracle 11g client 32bit &amp; 64bit both <font face="tahoma,verdana,sans-serif" size="1" color="#000">version</font> and have to change registry little bit.
For some reason my colleague fixed that issue with some patches on Oracle 10g installation, but that doesn't work for me...

  • Stupid question: Difference between 32bit and 64bit 10g Client?

We have an application (Informatica 8, 32bit) for which the vendors claim they only support a 32bit client. Oracle does not ship a word-size specific client for 10g. This leads me to believe that 32bit vs 64bit is really innocuous and perhaps irrelevant. For my own curiosity, is the 10g client (not Instant Client) actually 32bit or 64bit?

    Hi,
    Note that you can always run 32-bit apps on a 64-bit client . . . . .
There are separate clients for 32-bit and 64-bit instant clients:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/oci/instantclient/index.html
Instant Client for Microsoft Windows (32-bit)
Instant Client for Microsoft Windows 64-bit Itanium
Instant Client for Microsoft Windows (x64)
    Instant Client for Linux x86
    Instant Client for Linux x86-64
    Instant Client for Linux Itanium
Instant Client for Linux AMD64 (32-bit and 64-bit)
Instant Client for Linux on Power (32-bit)
Instant Client for Linux on Power (64-bit)
    Instant Client for z/Linux (32-bit and 64-bit)
Instant Client for Mac OS X (Intel x86)
Instant Client for Mac OS X (PPC)
Instant Client for Solaris Operating System (SPARC) (64-bit)
Instant Client for Solaris Operating System (SPARC) (32-bit)
    Instant Client for Solaris x86
    Instant Client for Solaris x86-64

Instant Client for HP Tru64 UNIX
Instant Client for HP-UX Itanium (64-bit)

  • What's different between 32bit and 64bit ?

    Hi all,
    What's different between 32bit and 64bit for Oracle Database 10g Release 1 ?
such as "Oracle Database 10g Release 1 (10.1.0.2) for Microsoft Windows (32-bit)"
and "Oracle Database 10g Release 1 (10.1.0.2) for Microsoft Windows (64-bit Itanium)"
    Thanks

    What's different between 32bit and 64bit ? oooh, about 32 bits ;)
what is different between (x64) and (64-bit Itanium)This really is the short of question google could answer better but in a nutshell Itanium is the Intel 64bit chip (AKA the Itanic, due to its troubled history). Whereas x64 is the appelation given to AMD's 64bit Opteron chips; I believe x64 was coined by Microsoft but Sun use it as well.
    Cheers, APC.

  • Export & import between 32bit and 64bit windows

I need to move a schema over from a 32-bit windows machine to a 64-bit windows machine.
    both machines are network mapped,
    so
I exp it out from 32 machine
copy and paste from 32 to 64 machines
    then imp into 64 machine
    and get this error
IMP-00010: not a valid export file, header failed verification
    IMP-00000: Import terminated unsuccessfully
    machine oracle utilities are:
    Export: Release 10.2.0.1.0
    Import: Release 10.2.0.1.0
    help please.

Are you using original exp/imp or data pump?
exp/imp should be able to handle 32bit to 64bit transport.
It's either your dump file got corrupted during transfer.
Or your database server is not same version as your utilities. Please verify and post your Oracle server version.

  • Can 32bit and 64bit clients coexist?

    Hello folks,
I have a Windows Server 2003 64bit machine running Websphere 6.0 Express (32bit). Additionally it's running a custom 64bit application. Both apps need to connect to separate 10g databases. Can the 32bit and 64bit Oracle client installs coexist on this machine?
    Thanks for any advice!
    -Sangamon

To clarify, Websphere needs a 32bit JDBC driver, our custom application needs a 64bit ODBC driver. I've got Websphere working, but I'm having trouble getting the ODBC driver to work. I'm wondering if there's a problem with having 2 clients installed.

  • TNS Timeout Error with both 32bit and 64bit drivers installed

I have a server running WIndows 2008 64bit and SQL Server 2012 64bit. I have both the 32bit and 64bit Oracle ODBC drivers installed. 32bit is for SSIS and SSRS uses 64bit. I have an ODBC connection setup for both the 32bit and 64bit. I have the datasources setup for the 64bit and when I test it it works. When I go to run a query I get TNS timeout errors. Any ideas?

    Thank you very much, Curt!
It's right: When the 64bit version is running, then the PSDs will be opened by this.
But the configuration under "Bridge Edit/preferences/file type assoiciatons" has the same result as under the "Windows/Systemcontrol/Standardprograms": Never they show the name "Adobe Photoshop.exe (64bit)" - only "Adobe Photoshop.exe" In both cases (Bridge and systemcontrol) I have the possibility to choose the "right" Photoshop.exe by going to the right file (32bit OR 64bit), but the name of the .exe is ever the same: Only "Adobe Photoshop.exe". There is no difference.
And so even if the 64bit version is preferred (in Bridge), the PSD-files will be opened in the 32bit-version, when no one of both versions is running.
But - so or so - you have given me a way to solve my basic-problem!
And when I find the time for experiments, I will show what happens, when I rename the 64bit-exe to "Adobe Photoshop64.exe" to get two different filenames for Photoshop in the Windows-System. (I'm not shure if this will function: When in the Photoshop-System are intrinsic lnks/references to "Photoshop.exe", then I will have no success! Therefore I have to make a HDD-Clone with the whole Windows-System, all Apps and my Working-data before I try to rename. Perhaps there is "no way back to the activation" after renaming the .exe ...
    Thank you and kind regards,

  • OEL & 11gR2 on Intel E7500 - 32bit or 64bit?

    Hi all
I am a bit confused over which bit version of Oracle Enterprise Linux and Database should I select for my server specs of:
    DELL Desktop
    Intel Duo core E7500 Processor
    4GB RAM
Which one would be the optimum selection: x86 32bit or 64bit?
I understand whichever version is chosen needs to be the same for both OEL and DB.
