Hi everyone,
Im new to oracle, need some help here.
Currently i got a Solaris 8 Sparc node, installed with Oracle 9i Database. It seems to be using 98% of the memory, from the top command, can only see 53MB free out of 3GB physical memory. Any good explanation on this??

Memory: 3072M phys mem, 46M free mem, 4005M total swap, 3465M free swap
are you having performance problems?
are you getting a lot of swapping activity?
In itself oracle useing 98% of memory is not a problem if the system is running OK, you may have issues as more connections are made and you start seeing memeory swapping. Also if you are running other application processes on the server you may have issues. Can you post the results from sybrands query.
Remember you can't save memory for later so as long as you don't run out of physical memory and start swapping to disk 98% usage is OK.

My application is using high memory
Hi All,
i create application which is using high memory!
When i start application it using only 85Mb Memory but when i open any form or Report it using more Memory n its going high and high if i close Report till memory is not going down even i close all form it not going down!
Any One Can Help About this?
Hitesh PatelHi,
Testing with Visual Studio Test Manager (MTM)forum discusses Microsoft Test Management issues. Your issue is out of support range of this forum. USCGJEN72 provided some useful suggestions.
I agreed that we can check the task managers to get more information. Sometimes the computer performance may affect the Memory usage, so you can restart your PC and only start the application to release more resource.
In order to resolve this issue, if you are working with Windows Forms app, I suggest you to post your issue in a new thread on Windows Forms forum:
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/home?category=windowsforms Winform experts may provide you some solutions.

Javaw process using high memory
Hello All,
I am new to Java Development.
I would like to know :-
1 what service is associated with javaw process.
2 javaw process shoots up to 360+ meg,
essentially using all of the memory. Restarting the machine is our only remedy.
I am using a 2 cpu Dell P2450 running W2k sp3.
I would appretiate your guidence to resolve the issue.
Thanks in Advance.

SVKhi raghu
Yeah it much known fact that Essbase app runs by ESSSVr process but its ridiculous if complete application runs on single ESSSVR process
so to look on it go to Essbase server logs and there thread number or agent number
when ever there is calc script or report script or anything you on application there is thread comes out for each single operation ..which is hidden
you can see that in task manager
to go task manager in windows (not sure about unix) options> view> clik on PID it will show you thread numbers and you can kill that particular thread to stop comsuming ur server memory
but i do advise unless there is no process going on better stop application and restart and try killing those agents
hope this helps -
How to configure Oracle 10g to use 4GB memory
I'm trying to configure Oracle 10g to use >4GB memory. Have configured server boot.ini with required flags (/3GB /PAE). Rebooted server then created standard database, then connected to db instance and changed oracle parameters DB_BLOCK_BUFFERS, USE_INDIRECT_DATA_BUFFERS as required. Restarted DB instance, DB fails to restarted with SGA memory error. According to oracle user docs the SGA is nolonger in effect due to previous settings. Can you provide example of SPFILE with parameters settings that do work and use >4GB memory. Current server has 8GB, 2 x Dual XEON core/processors (i.e. 8 processors)
The recommended /3GB switches in the boot.ini file can only be used with the following operating systems editions (KB article 291988):
Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
Microsoft Windows 2000 Data Center Server
Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition
Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Data Center Edition
Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003
Important: Windows 2000 and 2003 Server Standard Editions DO NOT SUPPORT /3GB Switch.
So if your OS is listed above, then you cannot have a larger SGA. -
Can execut a query in Oracle UCM to get View_Values instead of using GET_SC
Dear All,
i have a question that i had google it and didn't find anything helpful.
i want to ask if i can execut a query in Oracle UCM to get View_Values instead of using GET_SCHEMA_VIEW_VLAUES service ?
ie: asuume that we have a Table name called Employees (having empId, empName) and have a view named as Table name; Employees.
instead of use the GET_SCHEMA_VIEW_VLAUES service to get the data of Employees, can i write a query, ex: select from Employees*_ to get the data.
note: i have a connection parameter to connect to oracle UCM database
any suggestions.
RegardsYes, you can execute the query and store results into a result set (available also in iDocScript).
There are two sample components that you could use as a starting point - see here http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/webcenter/content/howtocomponentsbundle-132171.zip or here for 11g http://bexhuff.com/2011/03/howto-component-samples-for-oracle-ucm-11g
Take a look at DataAccess and DatabaseProvider from the sample stack. -
Migrating Oracle forms to APEX 3.2 without using Forms2XML tool
Can we migrate Oracle forms to APEX 3.2 without using Forms2XML tool?
Hi Anoo,
In order to convert Oracle Forms to Oracle Application Express, using the Forms Conversion utility in Oracle APEX 3.2, you are required to convert your Forms Module (FMB) files to XML format, using the Oracle Forms to XML conversion tool, Forms2XML. I would recommend that you review Chapter 4 [Converting an Oracle Forms Application|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14373_01/migrate.32/e13368/appmgr_forms.htm] , in the Oracle Application Express Migration Guide Release 3.2
If you have any further questions relating to the Oracle Forms to Oracle Application Express conversions, I would recommend that you refer to the [Application Express|http://forums.oracle.com/forums/forum.jspa?forumID=137] forum.
I hope this helps.

How to run oracle forms in ipdad or smart mobile using OS android
please help me
how to run oracle forms in ipad or smart mobile using OS( android )and connect to application server 10g?????
ThanksIf you had looked at data dashboard and some of the other links on Android, you would see that you cannot run a LabVIEW app on Android. Nor can you use a serial port. With Data Dashboard, you have a pc running LabVIEW and it publishes to network shared variables. Data Dashboard on the Android allows you to view those variables.

Two Instances of Oracle Application Server 10.1.3.x using the same DB
I can't seem to find any documentation about installing two instances of Oracle Application Server 10.1.3.x using the same database.
Would the two instances conflict? Should I create a separate database for each instance? I am attempting to cluster two application servers and I want to know if I will need multiple databases, I can't see a reason why this would be a problem.
Any advice on this matter would be appreciated. You have probably downloaded the wrong version.
Do not download the Oracle SOA Suite 10g (10.1.3.5.1) for WebLogic Server (10.3.1),
but the one below that option: Oracle SOA Suite 10g (10.1.3.x)
See if you get something like the following zip file: soa_windows_x86_101310_disk1.zip
This is just the OC4J without the WebLogic Server. -
Migrate Oracle 11g database from Windows To Linux using RMAN hot / cold backup ?
Hi Friends,
Is it possible to Migrate Oracle 11g database from Windows To Linux using RMAN hot / cold backup ? ( as i would like to perform Point In Time recovery)
(or) The only way is to use RMAN convert as mentioned here - Transporting Data Across Platforms
(or) Is there any other method (except exp/imp and data pump)
Regards,
DBHI
his post describes the procedure required to migrate a database from Windows to Linux using the RMAN Convert Database command.
Both Windows and Linux platforms have the same endian format, which makes possible to transfer the whole database, making the migration process very straightforward and simple.
To migrate between platforms that have a different endian format, Cross Platform Transportable Tablespaces (XTTS) needs to be used instead.
List of Steps Needed to Complete the Migration
The migration process is simple, but as it has several steps it is convenient to be familiar with them before running it.
1. Check platform compatibility between source and target OS
2. Start the database in read only mode
3. Check database readiness for transport from Windows to Linux using DBMS_TDB.CHECK_DB
4. Check if there are any external objects
5. Execute the Rman Convert database command
6. Copy converted datafiles, generated Transport Script and Parameter File to Linux
7. Edit the init.ora for the new database
8. Edit the Transport Script and Parameter File changing the windows paths to Linux Paths
9. Execute the Transport Script
10.Change the Database ID
11.Check database integrity
Thank you -
What can I tune to make the database use less memory in a 1GB ram notebook?
Hi,
Our notebook has 1GB ram only, running Windows XP Pro, Oracle10g Database, Oracle9i Application Server. It consumes about 1.4 - 1.5GB ram where it's already start using the virtual memory, therefore have some performance issue with it especially when try to startup the services.
I'm not a DBA but I would like to get some advice on what and how can I tune the database to use less memory since the notebook is used for demo application only, so we save memory resource and make the notebook runs faster.
Please advise.
Thank you.Application Server 10gR1, 10gR2 is certified against WinXP:
XP 10g (9.0.4.0.1) N/A Desupported None Yes N/A
XP 10g (9.0.4) N/A Desupported None Yes N/A
XP 10g (10.1.3.1.0) N/A Certified Yes None None
XP SP2+ 10g (10.1.3.0.0) N/A Certified None Yes Yes
XP SP2 10g (10.1.2.0.2) N/A Certified None Yes Yes
XP SP2 10g (10.1.2.0.1) N/A Certified None Yes Yes
XP Xeon 10g (10.1.2.0.0) N/A Certified None Yes Yes
XP 10g (10.1.2.0.0) N/A Certified None Yes Yes
XP 9.0.3 N/A Desupported None Yes N/A
XP 9.0.2.0.1 N/A Desupported None None N/ADessupported means Oracle will no longer produce patches or provide maintenance for the version, so in case you hit some new bug the only alternative will be to work with a higher version.
In your case you could use 10g on XP. The only XP not supported is Home Edition.
Coming back to the issue, since 9iR2 Oracle recommendation is to provide 1G for each AS node (infrastructure and middle tier). If you have this on the same box, by itself on the Enterprise install will consume more than 1G.
Tuning 10g database won't make much difference. If you install AS 10gR2 it includes a 10gR1 Database as infrastructure database you could use for demo purposes.

Slow iMac, kernel_task using 1GB memory
My iMac has been running slower and slower over the past year or so. The problem seems to come and go, but I have been noticing increasing tendency for applications to hang, or to get stuck for minutes with spinning beach balls. I've been carrying forward software and installations going all the way back to OS X 10.0 (from previous machines) and I probably have made some poor choices regarding installing third-party software in the past.
I've seen some very helpful advice in this forum given to others (for example, here) so I thought I would post my problem here.
I've been watching Activity Monitor, and the only thing I've noticed that seems consistently out of place is that kernel_task is using about 1GB of RAM. (It was using about 2GB of RAM until I uninstalled Virtual Box, which clearly was a big part of my problems).
I am fully backed up redundantly (locally via Time Machine and remotely via BackBlaze). I'm holding off upgrading to Yosemite until I can clean this issue up (unless you think it would help).
Below you will find posted two diagnostic reports. The first is EtreCheck, followed by the results of the Terminal script posted by Linc Davis in this thread
I hope that's sufficient to help the geniuses reading this forum give me some advice. Thank you in advance for your help.

Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account. Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear and again when you log in. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don’t do them all at once.

Hi
I have a stored procedure that uses the XMLQuery function (SELECT XMLQuery( '......' RETURNING CONTENT) FROM dual; ) to extract data from 3 different tables and store the xml file in XML DB. This store procedure was running fine for a long time until 2 weeks ago where I started seeing the following error:
Database Error: DBD::Oracle::db do failed: ORA-04030: out of process memory when trying to allocate 92 bytes (koh dur heap d,qmxtkWriteXobToOpn:heap)
Currently I have 16,000 records. I am not sure what is going on, the size of the previous successful output xml file is about 2M. I also noticed when the stored procedure runs with 3G of system memory available, it basically used up all the memory and cpu time. The store proc consistently dies after 3.5 hour and spits out the ORA-04030 out of process memory error.
Does anyone have any suggestion what to look for or what parameters I need to set? ThanksUnless your database is strictly a DSS-type of database, your AWR report exposes loads of issues with it. And I think none of the time during the AWR window was spent on database. Look at the DB time (with all those multi cores) compared with the elapsed time of the AWR.
As you are on 11g, why not make use of MEMORY_TARGET (a single parameter to manage both SGA and PGA)? If you are already on it, ignore this as I can't see it anywhere. If not, get rid of SGA_TARGET and PGA_AGGREGATE_TARGET and replace it with a single MEMORY_TARGET parameter. However you may have a minimum threshold set for different SGA pools so that they won't shrink beyond that point.
Having said that, setting MEMORY_TARGET is not a guarantee to avoid ORA-4030. Just a single bad PL/SQL code could go and exploit the untunable part of your process memory and even go and blow up the physical memory. If you are using FORALL and BULK load, see if you can cut it down into few chunks rather than running as a single process.

Is a clustering licence required for using In-Memory replication?
Hi,
Could you please tell me if it is possible to use In-Memory replication
without a clustering licence? (With WebLogic 6 on Linux with eval.
licence.)
I ask, because the documentation states that it can be used with
HW load-balancing devices. If that is the case, how do you configure
replication without configuring a WebLogic cluster (since you already
have a HW LB cluster!).
Regards,
Frank Olsen
Okay, so then the advice to contact your BEA account rep for a clustering eval
license is correct.

Blue screen when using 2 memory modules !!
Hi,
When I use two memory modules (installed on bank 1 and 2), windows xp fails to install randomly (sometimes at the beginning, sometimes even after a rebooting...) and generates a blue screen of death... !
However, they are correctly visible at boot time.
But when I use only one module, it works fine (I tried with the first and the second module separately). These modules are strictly the same.
What should I do now ?
Just a remark : my FSB is at 100 Mhz. Is it normal ? (newbie question)
Thanks
David
Here is my configuration :
Athlon XP 2600+
2x512 Mb DDR PC2700 (MDT)
120 Gb UDMA6 IDE master on IDE1
80 Gb UDMA5 IDE slave on IDE1
DVD UDMA2 IDE master on IDE2
Firewire disabled
RAID activated (but not used so far)
LAN and Audio enabledI think 300 watts is a way too SMALL for what your trying to run. Check your label on the power supply and see what your 3.3 volt and 5 volt supply amperage is. Anything less than 200 watts combined or about 28amps on 3.3 and 35 amps on the 5volt is going to give you grief. You need a bigger power supply. Recommend Antec or Enermax as the solution. Antec SL350 or higher.
Newegg has good prices and great service

High memory use when checking downloads folder through browser
High memory use when checking downloads folder through browser.
I have a total of 3 DDR2 Gbytes of ram. Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU T4500 @ 2.30GHz Win 7 home pr. 64bit. Firefox 27.0 beta
I right click on a file to "open containing folder" from the drop down menu in downloads.
When the folder has been opened, explorer is trying to index the folder (which it never does completely or well after 5 minutes I close the folder and shut down the dllhost process cause laptop is blazing hot) and memory keeps increasing till no more is available.
I checked task manager and see that dllhost is the particular process that is causing the spike in memory usage even after closing the folder I right click and stop the process and memory is restored after awhile.Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
* On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
* Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshooting extensions and themes article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.
Thank you.

When printing a photobook does Apple convert the images from RGB to CMYK?
I'm a little confused by Apple's Photobooks. Most printers require all images to be in the CMYK colourspace, since the inks used are always CMYK. Yet Apple requires Photobook images to be jpegs in the RGB colourspace. Does this mean Apple's printers
