Oracle 9i Related

Dear all,
Is it possible to learn PL/SQL on MS SQL SERVER 2000? I got a Licensed software on my comp. I'd like to learn a bit about Sql, Forms and Reports. Where can I find the best beginners tutorial on the above.
Regards
Khurshed

No.
PL/SQL is Oracle's SQL Proceduraaal Language extension to SQL. Microsoft adapted the SYbase procedural language extension called Transact-SQL
You can learn basic SQL syntax on either Oracle or SQL Server, but the habits you will pick up doing so on SQL Server (putting a lot of SQL statements into procedures unnecessarily, extra commits, not using bind variables appropriately) will hurt your successful adoption of Oracle. This is discussed at length in Chapter 1 of any of Tom Kyte's books (see http://apress.com for most of his books.)
You might be happy to know that you can legally download and use Oracle's software at no charge. All versions available on the download area of http://otn.oracle.com can be used for evaluation and development.
As well, the Oracle Database 10g Release 2 Express Edition (XE) can also be used for free in production. I'd encourage using this one for learning - usually easy to install and small footprint.

  • Where is the documentation for Oracle Spatial Relational Model?

    Hi,
I'm working with Oracle Spatial for my schema model. In the documentation "Oracle Spatial User's Guide and Reference" there is a note about what this is in OTN but i don't find it!!
Can anybody help me, where I find the "Oracle Spatial Relational Model Guide and Reference"?

Thanks! But just i have read this information. And in the documentation for spatial 9.0.1 there is one document only, and in this document there is a Note that reference to nonexistent document with title "Oracle Spatial Relational Model Guide and Reference" this is the document that i'm searching.
    Thank you for your help!

  • Oracle parameters related kernel parameters

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me hwo can i get the info about the oracle parameters which are related to os, for example- i am getting a request to change the process parameter for the db instance which are the kernel parameters need to be changed..
so we have to relate the kernel parameters with database parameters. like this, can i get anywhere for oracle parameters which are associated with kernel parameters. Please let me know if anyone has this information.
    Thank u.

    990991 wrote:
Hey.. i want to know which oracle parameter is associated with kernel parameters ..
something like this shmmax === related SGA (which exact oracle parameter of SGA need to be changed  at database level) similarly for process parameter which parameter is related at os level (in kernel parameters)
I think my question is clear now.. to get the appropriate help.
    Thank U..
Did you consider that it is not a one-for-one relationship?
The installation guide is very explicit about how to set the kernel parameters.
Most importantly, what error triggered this request?  We often see people chasing the wrong solution for their unstated problems.

  • Porting Oracle 7 related application to Oracle 10

    Hello fellas,
Currently I am trying to port an application from a legacy workstation that uses oracle 7 DB to SunBlade1500 which uses Solaris 9 and Oracle 10 database. Unfortunately, I faced alot of problem during object linking process, and most of them related to oracle libraries. Below is the error generated when linking failed :
ld: fatal: library -lclntsh: not found
ld: fatal: library -lsql: not found
ld: fatal: library -lsqlnet: not found
ld: fatal: library -lncr: not found
ld: fatal: library -lsqlnet: not found
ld: fatal: library -lclient: not found
ld: fatal: library -lcommon: not found
ld: fatal: library -lgeneric: not found
ld: fatal: library -lsqlnet: not found
ld: fatal: library -lncr: not found
ld: fatal: library -lsqlnet: not found
ld: fatal: library -lclient: not found
ld: fatal: library -lcommon: not found
ld: fatal: library -lgeneric: not found
ld: fatal: library -lepc: not found
ld: fatal: library -lnlsrtl3: not found
ld: fatal: library -lc3v6: not found

ld: fatal: library -lnlsrtl3: not found
ld: fatal: library -lcore3: not found
ld: fatal: library -lnlsrtl3: not found
When I find those libraries, almost most of them are oracle 7 libraries and cannot be found or in oracle 10. Any suggestion what should I do to handle this problem?

To Ora_tech: I have tried to compile and link them without those libraries, but apparently I faced linking error saying that:
ld: fatal: Symbol referencing errors. No output written to dbsasmon
To Schavali: Yes, it was written in Pro C. I m not sure tho whether Pro C is as same as Pro COBOL. But what actually happened during compilation is, the pro C source codes are compiled into C++ codes. From there, the C++ is again compiled by using CC compiler. So, I dont think that having pro C compiler or its libraries will help since it will be going to be compiled by CC compiler at the end. Or...maybe I am wrong? LOL
    Any suggestion/explanations?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Oracle DBA related issues ?????

where can i discuss DBA related issues?
    thanks

The standard tasks necessary for the SAP system are supposed to be done via the brtools which can be triggered from within the SAP system if needed.
The reason for this is that SAP does not use all of Oracle's functionalities (some may be even harming the SAP system). Therefore SAP recommends to administer the db only via the brtools to allow a safe administration taking into account the special requirements of the SAP system.
If you need to know more about the functionality of the brtools I suggest you use help.sap.com or use the SDN information given.

  • Oracle 9iDS related queries

    Dear all,
Please, help me to provide the answers or document for the followinf queries.
    1. Major difference between Oracle 6iDS and Oracle 9iDS.
    2. Can I Execute application developed in Oracle 6i
(Client-Server) as is in Oracle 9iDS?
    3. Can I execute forms developed in Oracle 9iDS without
    Application Server?
    4. Equivalent of DFLT.PRT (available in 6i) in Oracle 9iDS
You can also send me the document (if any) by mail. My mail id is [email protected]
    Thanks

    Hi,
    1. Major difference between Oracle 6iDS and Oracle 9iDS.
    - Listener Servlet architecture
    - Web only
    - 25+ new features (design, deployment and architecture)
    2. Can I Execute application developed in Oracle 6i
(Client-Server) as is in Oracle 9iDS?
You need to re-compile them. Also there are some obsoleted built-ins that you need to migrate if you use them. There is a migration assistant contained in the DeveloperSuite (FMA)
    3. Can I execute forms developed in Oracle 9iDS without Application Server?
Only with Oracle9iDS there is a stand alone OC4J instance that you use for designtime testing your application. For production the only supported application server is Oracle Application Server
    4. Equivalent of DFLT.PRT (available in 6i) in Oracle 9iDS
Sounds Reports related and I would try this question on their forum.
See also the 9i collateral on http://otn.oracle.com/products/forms

  • Oracle equivalent relation terms for History Notes and Abbreviation

    Hi,
We are trying to migrate from Basis 9 database to Oracle 10g. The biggest challenge isto build a oracle thesaurus similar to the one in Basis.
In Basis we have relations History Notes(HN) and Abbreviation(AB). I am not able to find equivalent relation in Oracle. Recently I got the ANSI Z39.19 Guidelines document from one of the forum contributor, which mentions about the relations History Notes and Abbreviation. I am not able to load the relation HN. ctxload is stopping at this term with the error DRG-11706: invalid relation HN.
Does anyone know if there is any equivalent relation in Oracle Thesaurus for HN and AB?
    Thanks

Thanks so much for the answers.
Auto Lexer is a indexing element, which I could use for a column. I need abbreviations stored in my system schema so that multiple database instances could access these thesaurus terms. Please correct me if I am wrong.
I thought of the same solution for HN Brian. I am thinking of putting a tag HN to identify them later for display. Abbreviations are more specific and SYN could be general to a term. If I substitute AB with SYN, I am afraid I will loose the data collected by users over the years. I am thinking of putting them in the dr$ths_fphrase table as AB:. The constraint I have here is, thesaurus management tool that comes with Oracle 10g considers all the terms in this table, as terms in different thesaurus. I have changed the code to handle it but I am not sure if I am deviating from the standard practice.
Your feedback on this is much appreciated.
    Thanks again

Q3 – What happens if the oracle apps page is not connecting, hangs or shows blank screen. How will you solve the same. You need to check apache log file or you should check apache and other service up &running. If not you need to check apache log files
Q4 – what are in folder 10.1.2 and 10.1.3. What are they meant for and how do they work.Check concept guide

  • Oracle Forms - Relation Objects Concepts

    Hi,
Note: This is a newbie question.
I have been tasked to address the following question:
"What do understand by Relation Object? Differentiate between isolated, non-isolated and cascaded relation object properties."
I have tried to search on this website to find information on the concept of Relation Objects but to no avail. Can anyone please point me to the right resource.
    Thanks and regards.

Setting Relation Properties that Affect Coordination
When you create a master-detail relation, you must decide how Oracle Forms should manage coordination between the master and detail blocks.
Specifically, you need to answer the following questions:
Should end users be able to delete a master record if there are associated detail records present?
If end users can delete a master record, should Oracle Forms delete the associated detail records also?
If an end user makes a new record in the master block the current record, should Oracle Forms fetch the associated detail records immediately, or wait until the end user navigates to the detail block?
The answers to these questions will depend on application-specific requirements.
By setting the properties of the relation object, you can implement the master-detail functionality most appropriate for your application.
The properties that affect the functionality of a relation include Delete Record Behavior, Coordination, and Prevent Masterless Operation.
    Delete Record Behavior Property
The Delete Record Behavior property (formerly called the Master Deletes property) allows you to specify how the deletion of a record in the master block should affect records in the detail block.
You can specify Cascading, Isolated, or Non-Isolated:
    Cascading
The master record can be deleted, and any associated detail records are automatically deleted from the database at commit time.
If relations are nested to several levels, only records in the immediate detail block are deleted.
That is, deletions do not automatically cascade to multiple levels of a relation chain.
    Isolated
The master record can be deleted, but the associated detail records are not deleted from the database.
    Non-Isolated
    The default setting.
The master record cannot be deleted if associated detail records exist in the database.
    Note:
If your database is using the ORACLE7 Server cascading deletes feature, do not use the Cascading deletes option in Oracle Forms.
    Coordination Properties
The values of the coordination properties Deferred and Auto Query determine when the population phase of block coordination will occur:
    Immediate (Deferred = No)
    The default setting.
When a coordination-causing event occurs, Oracle Forms fetches the detail records immediately.
Deferred (Deferred = Yes, Auto Query = No)
When a coordination-causing event occurs, Oracle Forms does not automatically fetch the detail records.
To fetch the detail records, the end user must navigate to the detail block and explicitly execute a query.
Deferred with Auto Query (Deferred = Yes, Auto Query = Yes)
When a coordination-causing event occurs, Oracle Forms defers fetching the associated detail records until the end user navigates to the detail block

  • Problem with Dates in ADF Calendar (Possibly Oracle 9i related?)

    Hi All,
I have an entity and up-datable view object based on the following table
    CREATE TABLE IM_CALENDAR
    ID VARCHAR2(32 BYTE),
    START_TIME DATE,
    END_TIME DATE,
    PROVIDER_ID VARCHAR2(32 BYTE),
    TITLE VARCHAR2(256 BYTE),
    RECURRING VARCHAR2(32 BYTE),
    REMINDER VARCHAR2(3 BYTE),
    TIME_TYPE VARCHAR2(6 BYTE),
    LOCATION VARCHAR2(256 BYTE)
When I run the ADF Application, it responds with the following error.
Cannot create an object of type:java.sql.Date from type:java.util.Date with value:22/12/10 00:00
In the app server console, I get the following error message.
<Utils><buildFacesMessage> ADF: Adding the following JSF error message: Cannot create an object of type:java.sql.Date from type:java.util.Date with value:22/12/10 00:00
    oracle.jbo.domain.DataCreationException: JBO-25009: Cannot create an object of type:java.sql.Date from type:java.util.Date with value:22/12/10 00:00
         at oracle.jbo.domain.TypeFactory.get(TypeFactory.java:852)
In my Oracle XE database this ran fine. But I am now running on an Oracle 9i Database, will this cause an issue with ADF?

The error message you give has nothing to do with the database.. seems that something else has changed (assuming it used to work)

  • Oracle text related internal procedure taking a lot of time in our Production database

    Hi,
I am on Oracle 11.2.0.2 on Linux. I have Oracle Text implemented in all my databases for fuzzy search. I am seeing the following Oracle TExt specific internal procedure to be among the Top SQL in my AWR in production. This is during business time.
    SQL ordered by Elapsed Time
Resources reported for PL/SQL code includes the resources used by
all SQL statements called by the code.
% Total DB Time is the Elapsed Time of the SQL statement divided

Note that the sql id ddr8uck5s5kp3 has this sql:
    begin ctxsys.drvdml.com_sync_index(:idxname, :idxmem, :partname); end;
Also note that I have the procedure to optimize the indexes (ctx_ddl.optimize_index in FULL mode) set up every night to run at 3 am for all our Oracle Text indexes.  Is there anything else needed. I don't know why the procedure I showed above in the AWR report takes so much time and why it is among our Top sql.
I will be very thankful for guidance in this regard.
    Thanks,
    OrauserN

This is the internal call which drives the SYNC call for a text index. Effectively all the indexing of new and updated data in your text-indexed table is contained within this call.
If you're using parallel SYNC you will see this call contained with a SELECT query - that select is executed as a parallel query on a table function, which is the way we divide up the work between parallel slaves.

  • Oracle Documentation Relating to 1Z0-051

    Hello,
Just wanted to some input on which Oracle Documentation Books I should be using using in order to prepare for 1Z0-051. At the moment, I am using:
    Oracle Database Administrator's Guide 11g Release 2 (11.2)
    Oracle Database Concepts 11g Release 2 (11.2)
    Any other suggestions?
    Thanks in advance,
    Howard

I used "*SQL Fundamentals I Exam Guide (Exam 1Z0-051)*".
It's a complete exam preparation edited by McGraw Hill - Oracle Press.
Authors: John Watson and Roopesh Ramklass.
    I thing it's a good book.
